Florence Pugh wore Del Core with ‘raised straps’ to the Oscars: weird or cool?

Florence Pugh was, no joke, one of my favorite looks of the night. Miss Flo was there to present and hang out with her Oppenheimer fam, which won Best Picture (and Director and Actor). Pugh got to just show up to party and have fun and that’s reflected in her look – a gown from Del Core, with “raised straps.” While the raised straps are not my favorite element ever, I love the way this look came together, including Florence’s styling. Great makeup, fantastic hair.

Speaking of raised straps, weirdly Florence’s Oppenheimer costar Emily Blunt had the exact same design element. Emily wore Schiaparelli and most people did not like this at all. It was a weird look overall… the silver applique (is that what it is??) is giving Wonder Woman panties. The effect draws the eye to her crotch, which is definitely a weird vibe for the Oscars.

Sandra Huller also wore a custom Schiaparelli (and Cartier jewels). I love this? It’s the perfect blend of ridiculous and serious. If I could change one thing, I would do more with her makeup. It was too simple and she looked too undercooked and washed out.

The raised straps are a bit gimmick-y and the fabric is unforgiving, but her styling here is really strong – the best she’s looked in months in my view.

Even Mr. Bathory noticed the “raised straps” lol. I love the sculptural elements & I actually like all of these looks (I finally like Florence’s hair!). I think Emily’s gown is one of those that looks gorgeous in person, but the crotch-pointing is unfortunate for a red carpet photo.

The scrolling below the waist looks like a pair of what used to be called “BVDs” (aka: tighty whities).

Not a fan of the raised shoulders ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The raised straps are for the moments when they need to raise their shoulders because they dont know the answer to a question.

Agreed and Sandra Huller’s look. The dress is excellent – classic but with whimsy – but the makeup and hair says “PTA meeting”. Maybe just a slightly more dramatic eye or lip?

I do think the raised straps are silly but Florence looked so good in that dress. It was both cool and glam.

Love Florence, Love the dress, not sure about the raised straps. A bit of a gimmick. But worth the click for the brand.

Emily’s dress isn’t my cup of tea but I am so happy to see her face looking much less filled and more natural. I am loving John’s look and broach, too!

She’s German. That understated look is very much a thing for millennial aged German women and up. They just do a more natural look. She’s letting those amazing cheekbones do all the work.

Realizing that her face looks fine, it’s just that her face looks all the same tone when contrasted with the black dress.

Sandra is cool and beautiful enough to slay this look. I can’t believe I didn’t know about her a year ago and this year she was in two of my favorite films. Can’t wait to see more of her.

The raised straps are screaming I have a short torso on Flo. Otherwise I like her styling

Emily is looking like a real housewife. Her current aesthetic is so harsh on her

    Sandra wins this round

    • Call_Me_AL says:

Thank you! I was struggling to articulate why Emily’s look is bugging me so much. She says she hates LA but styles herself like a Real Housewife! She’s made herself too tan, thin, and ‘toxed.

  9. Carol says:

I need raised straps to not become a thing, and I kept wondering about the people who would need to sit beside Sandra. I loved everything about Sandra’s dress except its shoulder width.

One of my favorite looks of the night also had raised-looking straps: Leah Lewis (voice actor in Elemental) in a bright pink, wispy dress.

Florence looks average as usual lol. She literally cannot serve anything except shock value on red carpet, that’s why I never feel sorry for her when Twitter drags her style.

I hate the “raised straps” so much.

Huller needed a dramatic blush and ultra glowy skin! That eyeliner is really dragging her down.

  13. KimmyChoo says:

The straps remind me of a life jacket up around your ears.

  14. Kirsten says:

I loved all of these looks, but I think Florence’s after-party dress was better.

  15. QuiteContrary says:

Yeah, the raised straps drove me crazy. It just makes a dress look poorly fitted.

Florence looks gorgeous from the neck up, just flawless. But I am so disappointed by her dress, she wore much better looks on the Dune 2 premiere rounds! This is just weird and unflattering imo.

Same with Emily, her dress is awful as well. Washed out colour and they should have stopped at the dress shape just being a simple column dress, these raised straps are just odd on both the dresses.

I thought Florence looked great aside from the raised straps.
