Jonathan Tucker immediately ran to rescue his neighbors during a home invasion

I know Jonathan Tucker from the excellent scifi show Debris, which was canceled by NBC in 2021 after one season. Obviously I’m still salty about it. When the show was airing I covered an interview with the showrunner, J.H. Wyman, who praised Tucker as a consummate actor and professional. He said “there’s not a false bone in [Tucker’s] body.” It wasn’t surprising to me as he’s captivating on screen. He’s also been on Parenthood, Justified, Kingdom and Westworld. Not only do Tucker’s bosses love him, his neighbors do too and for good reason. On Sunday, Tucker heard his neighbors in Los Angeles screaming when a stranger entered their home. He immediately ran over there, barefoot, and helped them get out of the house. He was seen carrying one of their three children out.

Jonathan Tucker is being hailed a hero after he sprung into action to save a family in the middle of a home invasion.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department tells ET that a call came in at around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Hancock Park. Police say a suspect entered the location.

Soon after, the Kingdom actor stepped in. In security footage obtained by KTLA, Tucker is seen storming into the home barefoot after hearing a woman screaming. The homeowner was not home at the time, but his wife and three daughters were inside when the suspect entered the home.

Moments later, cell phone video footage shows the family escaping through the back of the house, and Tucker could also be seen carrying one child. Security footage shows armed police arriving at the home, where there was a brief standoff before they eventually made their way inside the home. KTLA reports the man was found hiding in the closet and he was taken into custody without incident.

Following a Code 4, Tucker could be heard on video thanking LAPD for their swift response.

[From ET Online]

Thank goodness the police arrived quickly and the suspect wasn’t armed. If you watch the KTLA news clip below, the neighbor whose home was breached said “Tucker’s great, he’s block security. He makes sure everything is under control and I think he was tracking him for a while. An hour, hour and a half.” It sounds like the man who entered their home was having a mental health crisis. The intruder was seen talking to himself on their ring camera before he opened the front door. The twist to this story is that the people whose home he entered own a mental health facility, according to KCAL, and “they’ve actually offered to house him at their facility.

This is scary but it has a happy ending. It also makes me want to see Jonathan Tucker in more shows. IMDB reminds me that he was in that wild Netflix series, Echoes, with Michelle Monaghan and Matt Bomer. I watched two episodes of that, turned it off and looked up spoilers. It was about identical twins, both played by Monaghan, who switched lives. It was so over the top and ridiculous. (Some of the photos in this post are stills from that show.) Hopefully we’ll see Tucker, 42, more often after this. He’s not only valiant and handsome, he can ACT.

It sounds terrifying and good for him, but I have a question. I get that there’d be security footage and the ring camera, but who stops to take a cell phone video while people are trying to escape their house? Maybe another neighbor?

    • goofpuff says:

yeah who is doing cell phone video when this is all going down? It makes it sound like a set up.

      • Eurydice says:

@Flamingo below said he wasn’t the only one helping, so it makes sense that someone else had a cell phone – my question answered!

I’ve never watched anything with Jonathan Tucker, but kudos to him!

On another note, the reporting of this bugged me: “The homeowner was not home at the time, but his wife and three daughters were inside when the suspect entered the home.” …so the mother of the family is just assumed to not own the home? This just rubbed me the wrong way.

    • CuriousCole says:

It definitely isn’t just you, that was excruciatingly sexist! As a wife, IT IS HER home. Like WTF.

      • Kate says:

OK thank you! I was going to say the same thing. Gross!

      • pottymouth pup says:

        ditto

if the wife was out and the husband was home with the kids, you know darn well they wouldn’t have said “the homeowner wasn’t home but her husband and three daughters were”

    • goofpuff says:

I agree. Sheesh. It’s incredibly sexist.

    • Kitten says:

Me too! Really sexist and yucky.

    • I was coming to comment on that too. The implications of this are not without cost, remember gabby petito owned the van her boyfriend who murdered her was driving, but the police let him keep it and put her in jail, assuming he owned it.

      Absolutely disgusting.

Obviously, many wives also paid for the home! Wtf.

I’ve been a SAHM then self employed. My hubby is the breadwinner and bought our house but I’m still listed on the mortgage and lease. Totally sexist to write her off.

Awww, what a hero!!! It’s good to hear a story like this in a sea of news of male celebrities acting abusive. Plus Tucker is sexy. He reminds me of Robert Patrick (who is sexy too.)

I really enjoyed Kingdom. Jonathan Tucker is the dirtbag character that you love to hate and he’s excellent. I was hesitant to watch because of Nick Jonas, but he’s pretty good in it too. Definitely recommend.

I remember him as a prepubescent boy in Sleepers. Great movie with Jason Patrick and Brad Pitt. I’m glad that he’s been able to make a living in LA as an actor. it’s not easy.

I was watching the coverage yesterday online. What a wonderful neighborhood that all look out for each other. It wasn’t just him that ran to aid the family.

Most importantly, they just wanted the man to get help, and nobody killed him.

I want to live next to Jonathan Tucker lol.

Not trying to victim blame at ALL here – obviously this isn’t okay, but was the door just unlocked?! It looks like he just walks in. Is this normal in LA – people not locking their doors?? I’m in a small apartment building with an additional door between us and the outside and I STILL cant imagine leaving my door unlocked – I’d be so scared!
