Telegraph: ‘Lesser mortals’ than Princess Kate ‘would have stayed home’

It really felt like the old monarchists were literally dusted off this weekend to praise the Princess of Wales’s appearance at Trooping the Colour. Where have these people been for the past six months? Why was everything so radio-silent? It was like all of these sycophants were put in deep freeze and only thawed out on Friday. There’s absolutely a vibe of “picking up where we left off six months ago and acting as if none of that other stuff happened.” Well, Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson decided to go much too far in her rush to praise Kate’s Trooping appearance. The column was called: “Our Fair Lady: Princess of Wales’s selfless display was the tonic that Britain needed.” The subhead was what people got stuck on: “When lesser mortals would have stayed at home, Catherine proved that the show goes on.” Lesser mortals like… people with cancer? People who are not receiving a royal-level of health care? I’m not going to excerpt the whole thing, but this will give you the main thrust:

Two words: Thank you. Thank you Princess of Wales for being an absolute trouper and attending Trooping the Colour on a cold, grey day when lesser mortals with your illness would have stayed home, tucked up in their jim-jams. Thank you for sacrificing the privacy that is so much needed to get you back to full health. Thank you for such a show of support for the King, who is not a well man, on his official birthday, and for giving a boost to the wider Royal family – which has sorely lacked star power since you withdrew from public life in January to have major surgery. Thank you for channelling the gamine beauty of Audrey Hepburn in that wow of a white dress with a jaunty, outsize, stripy black-and white bow. You are Our Fair Lady.

We would have understood if Kate had chosen to start with something smaller and more low-key to get back into the swing of things. But what a triumph on the grand scale this was. A splendid riposte to all the trolls who have cruelly hounded the Princess of Wales, demanding she return to work before she was ready, denying her the convalescence she deserves.

Particular spite has come from the Sussex camp; Meghan and Harry’s acolytes. How will the competitive sulkers in Montecito respond to a beaming Kate back on the front pages? Just as the Prince and Princess were arriving at Horseguards, it emerged, like clockwork, that Meghan had released a second jam.

[From The Telegraph]

I’ve said this in another post, but monarchists/Team Keen including Meghan in their sugary coverage of Kate says more about Kate than Meghan. If your “higher mortal” lady is so important, impressive, courageous and brilliant, then why does it matter that an American lesser mortal sent jam to a friend? But yeah, the “lesser mortals” part is really awful. People were not happy about it on Twitter:

Insulting audrey Hepburn. Hepburn was quite sick towards the end of her life bit in her last year’s she still did her charity work for UNESCO. Kate can put on that white Dress but that does not make her in the same league as lovely audrey. Fawning over Kate is sickening

    • ML says:

Yeah, Kate Middleton is no Audrey Hepburn. Perhaps a “Doolittle?”

    • Brassy Rebel says:

It was UNICEF, Tessa. But you are correct. She went to Somalia just four months before her death because it was not getting covered by the media. It was still in the throes of civil war and you can hear gunfire in the background of videos she is in. She had survived the five year ordeal which was her adolescence in Nazi occupied Holland. She thought of herself as a “lesser mortal” who got lucky, not a glamorous movie star.

      • Tessa says:

Thanks that’s right it was u n i c e f . Audrey was one of my all time favorites. It is insulting for writers to say Kate is like her.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

I recommend “Warrior” by Robert Matzen for the whole story.

      • Christine says:

Thanks for that recommendation, Brassy Rebel.

    • WithTheAmerican says:

Audrey was all class and a genuine beauty. Kate Middleton doesn’t have Audrey’s inner kindness or compassion.

This felt like it came from Ma Middleton, it was Kate the Great again. Way too much. Why is Kate not embarrassed to be presented by her own camp as superior being to everyone else?

      • Brassy Rebel says:

Kate and Audrey is not a comparison which can withstand much scrutiny (or even the light of day) for many reasons, not the least of them being that Audrey’s reputation in Hollywood was that of a hard worker.

    • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

Good that they get called out for praising her fir showing up in a dress after 6 months of vacation at homeS with private nurses taking care of her and staff looking after kids, cooking, cleaning, gardening. She worked twice in 6 months: that saturday night and that sunday morning photoshopping frankenphoto. This is such bs. Have some heart for the people who pay for her lifestyle.

      • Glad to see that the Telegraph Royal account on X that so carelessly labeled cancer patients as “lesser mortals” has less than 4,000 followers. I did my bit and reminded them of that. Cheers.

      • TheFarmer'sWife says:

Those “lesser mortals” go to work every day unless they have an understanding boss and a good health care package. Some “lesser mortals” may be fortunate to have friends and family willing to pick up the dailies (childcare, school run, cooking, cleaning, driving them to and from medical appointments, etc.); some do not and have to do the best they can while feeling like shite. This “reporter” has managed to glow up Button Girl while reminding her that she’s no Meghan. No gold star for BG for showing up after 6 months of round-the-clock care. Good on Meghan for releasing her second jam on Chuckles’ big day. This is the same man that was driving outright racial hatred towards Meghan, didn’t care if she unalived herself, took away security, took away the home gifted by Liz–the list is long! Meghan owes “those people” nothing. Meghan, please release your apricot jam one another tax-payer funded special day for Chuckle’s and his side chick.

    • Proud Mary says:

I’m just glad that we can all go back to dragging her for the lazy no talent that she is. That entire Eliza Doolittle ensemble of hers was yet another Meghan copy. Meghan wore an Eliza-like hat at her first Ascot and at the Jubilie balcony when she overshadowed them all from behind the scene. I just find the entire so-called royal family to be such a complete clown show. BTW, what happened to the Yorks? I guess all that bowing and scraping didn’t pan out for Miss Bea, did it?

      • Elizabeth says:

I thought her outfit was cosplaying Diana more than Meghan. Diana wore a similar ensemble one year for Trooping.

      • First comment says:

The whole ensemble with the bow definitely has “my fair lady” reference…I wonder if Kate is trolling us all: us, her husband, the rest of the royals…I mean, she must know her duchess Doolittle nickname 😉..why did she choose this dress?

      • Proud Mary says:

I am sticking by my belief that she is copying Meghan. Anytime Meghan gets a lot of buzz for wearing something, Kate puts a pin on that outfit. I remember the buzz Meghan received when the long lens captured her with the kids. It need not be an exact replica. It is the fact that Meghan got a lot of praise for the Eliza Doolittle hat not only at the balcony, but also at royal ascot. Any time Kate has a major event, she steals from Meghan. The original idea was Meghan’s.

  2. equality says:

They have stepped in it this time. This is an insult to every other cancer patient on earth, including KC, who has been out and about consistently and not just for one big party. And, if Meghan is so worried about Kate being out and about, why would she supposedly have her fans calling for Kate to “work”? Anyone can claim to be anything on SM. I wonder how many of the supposed Sussex fans are paid bots by the castle to stir up something.

    • Jais says:

Agree about stepping in it. What was supposed to be a triumphant return just feels kind of silly. Her name is being used to put down regular cancer patients who are apparently lesser mortals. Ones who don’t have royal treatment healthcare and the privilege of being home for 6 months. I wish any cancer patient could stay home if they wanted but unfortunately that’s not the case. Lauding her for such a showy and glamorous return is what I assume KP wanted but it’s really rather backfired.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

Yeah I wrote above it felt like a Ma Midd hatchet job again, Saint Kate Hath Risen. They never know when to let up with the sickening propaganda.

Her wave from the balcony in a dress with a bow didn’t help anyone.

      • Proud Mary says:

Jais, Kate’s name is always used to put other women down. And you know what, she is okay with it, because she can’t compete. I can’t forget when some DM wench attacked Meghan, Litezia, and Charlene, in honor of Kate’s 40th birthday. It was simply because Kate couldn’t compete with Meghan’s 40 X 40 mentorship campaign. Kate is an empty shell and a mute woman. That’s her claim to fame.

      • Jais says:

Well yeah, Kate’s name is used in the media to put other women down. And she has been okay with it. But its coming back to bite her. Bc in this case her name was used to shade cancer patients. It was the usual embiggening tricks but taken to a place that made more people notice. People are used to seeing Kate written in a way that pits her against other women and while it should be given the outrage it deserves, it rarely is. It should be though!

      • CatMum says:

shading cancer patients is truly a new high in lows.

    • Josephine says:

And bizarre considering that chuckles is clearly much more sick and he’s been showing up pretty much nonstop. Granted, he’s the king, but he looks like he actually has cancer and the press has not been particularly fawning about him doing actual work. She looks like she stepped away for a little refreshing although that new scar is an interesting detail. The press is only hyping her because they are still pathetically trying to make her out to be superior to Meghan. Sadly for them, she is not in any way superior.

      • The Hench says:

A friend of mine shook hands with Charles at the D Day meet and greet. He said he was caked in make up and did not look good.

      • Meredith says:

To me she looks older, not refreshed.

  3. Tessa says:

Kate is not superior to anyone. She was away 6 months something the average person cannot afford to do.

    • busylizzy says:

This. I had cancer ten years ago at age 26 and could not afford to stop working because of rent, student loans and healthcare costs. My work facilitated treatments with allowing me to work from home more often but it was a very exhausting period of my life. Not everyone can afford to stay home when there are cancer bad days….

      • Layday says:

@BusyLizzy Congrats! I am coming up on my 10 year anniversary as well next year. I was 28 and had just started working my new job when I got diagnosed and I desperately needed the health insurance because unfortunately as an American a lot of health insurance is tied to your job (I know there’s Medicaid but that would have delayed treatment and put me in poverty if I quit my job to pursue it), so there was no way I could stop working as well. I had 6 cycles of chemo TCH (I was grateful I didn’t have to get the red devil regimen A/C), but my regimen was no cakewalk either because I had to have 2 blood transfusions, as well as radiation, and surgery, and I couldn’t afford to cold cap because I was trying to freeze my eggs before treatment, which was stressful and expensive enough (note the ability to do either is a luxury) because I know women who couldn’t do it due to time and costs).

Referring to cancer patients as lesser mortals is absurd. I will never speak on what another cancer patient went through because we all battle it differently and knowing your own body is betraying you by trying to kill you is the sorority/fraternity no one wants to join. But to overshoot and frame this insanely privileged woman as somehow better than other “lesser mortals” cancer patients who in many cases have to work and take care of families with less than 1/100 of the privilege she has is vile. She put on a dress and showed up to a parade while going through treatment, why does that mean she is better than someone who might not be able to? There are so many different types of cancers and people handle treatment so differently depending on tolerance. One person’s mild side effects might be crippling to another. That doesn’t mean we should celebrate one person over the other.

People think calamities like cancer are a great equalizer in that it can randomly happen to anyone. The truth is calamities like cancer only reveal greater inequality. The fact that Kate was able to take so much time off while going through treatment when very few people diagnosed with cancer have such luxury exposes the kind of world we live in. Every cancer patient should be able to take the time off and get the kind of treatment Kate has. Until then, there should be no talk of what us lesser mortal cancer survivors are capable of.

      • Agnes says:

“The truth is calamities like cancer only reveal greater inequality.” So true. Everyone should have the option to rest and heal, but they don’t. I’m so glad you are both doing better.

      • therese says:

@busylizzy and @layday. I am sorry for what you had to go through, and thankful you came out the other side. So you must have heard this ridiculous statement in a particularly hurtful way. I found out 2 weeks ago that I have cancer in my left breast. I am scared but hopeful, and going through what steps I need. My thoughts are with you.

      • samipup says:

Glad both of you won your battles. Hugs.

  4. holly says:

Hat positioned just so, all the better to avoid looking at William

  5. sevenblue says:

Didn’t Prince Philips say it would be the monarchist who will bring its end? It is really shocking how out-of-touch these reporters are when praising the royals. How are you gonna write this sh*t when everybody knows the national healthcare is in crisis and people with cancer have to go to the work all the time. Sitting in a car, waving to the people, standing on a balcony isn’t a job. It is like praising someone for just existing.

    • WithTheAmerican says:

Exactly. TOC wasn’t a huge success, attendance was down, everyone looked miserable for the most part, and most importantly the “lesser mortals” are suffering while the King gets £125m a year tax free from the people and has an estate worth £22bn that’s never taxed and is getting a 45% pay rise.

The boot licking and genuflecting before royalty has gotten so bad under decades of Tory rule it is on par with North Korea now. It’s ll to hide what royals are getting from the taxpayers.

Bow down to the superior being whom you pay to sit at home and get waited on whilst you have to work while getting chemo. That’s the system.

    • Laura D says:

I came on to say exactly the same thing @sevenblue. Allison Pearson was quite rightly dragged all across Twitter yesterday and is still being dragged today. It’s highly offensive to call anyone “lesser mortals” but, when we look at the number of people battling this awful disease it’s also highly insensitive. Kate is not anyone special she just was in the right proximity to “bag” a prince. Her marriage has meant that she’s had access to the best treatment available and has been able to recuperate without worrying about bills and childcare. Of course it’s good that she felt able to sit in a carriage and wave to the crowds especially as it now means she can hand out the trophy for the Men’s Final without receiving too much criticism. 😉

      • Christine says:

Kate is a woman who has had the option to not consider another living being while getting treatment. She doesn’t have to schedule treatment around taking her kids anywhere, worry about whether she will feel well enough to cook for her kids, she doesn’t even have to put gas in her own effing car or pick up her own prescriptions at the pharmacy.

The back-fire of this article has been lovely to watch.

    • Becks1 says:

Yeah, I don’t think they realize how off-putting an article like this can be. I’ve said this before but the way I found this site was because I was so tired of the coverage on What Kate Wore and how sycophantic the commenters were. i was attacked because I wondered why she always wore her coat indoors and never took it off. It got to the point where I felt like I was in some sort of Kate Middleton PR bubble and it made me view her more critically as a result.

Calling other cancer patients “lesser mortals” because Kate…..put on a pretty dress and went to a parade and walked on a balcony….is not giving Kate the PR boost they think it is.

      • PinkOrchid says:

Thanks for sharing your backstory, @Becks1. I remember when you showed up on CB, and I always enjoy your posts! xx

      • what's inside says:

I like your comments as well. Being attacked for voicing your thoughts is extremely off-putting. But my question to you is this: Why does she always always wear her coat indoors?

      • Chrissy says:

        @Whats inside
By leaving her coat on at an engagement, it gives the impression that she’s only doing a fly-by engagement aka only staying for a few minutes for a quick photo op or handshake just to pay lip service to a charity and then on she goes shopping or to see Mummy.

      • Christine says:

It’s the same for me, I was desperate to find coverage of the royal family that reflected the truth, and stumbled upon this site. Once here, I was shocked at just how much propaganda all of it is, there’s not a single part of the Windsors that is altruistic. If a miracle were to occur, and England finally decided it had enough and abolished the monarchy, we would never see these people doing “charity work” again.

They might still show up for the swank stuff, the Prince of Wales needs to attend occasions where his big boy airplane shoes can be appreciated.

      • Sunny says:

They know what exactly how off this sounds. That’s the point .

      • Becks1 says:

@WhatsInside @Chrissy oh the explanation given was – wait for it – if she took her coat off indoors people would think that she was undressing and it would make people think about Kate getting undressed and that was just indecent.

I was like…..no one is thinking that. lol.

  6. Woods says:

My co-worker working 60 hours a week, while battling colon cancer in not a lesser mortal.

Stop the insanity. Kate obviously had plastic surgery.

    • Aud says:

Did she, though? She still has marionette lines and doesn’t look particularly “refreshed.”

      • Carmen says:

Nobody goes through chemo and comes out looking better than they did when the treatment started. She’s had a major facelift. That’s what her six months sabbatical was all about.

      • sevenblue says:

@Carmen, a lot of photos we saw from the day are photoshopped to the hell. From untouched photos I saw where Kate isn’t fully opening her mouth, her cheeks are the same. I don’t see any PS there. Maybe, she fixed her weird eye caused by Botox, other than that there is no improved look.

      • Chrissy says:

I noticed that her jowls are gone FWIW! And all on the ‘mere mortal’ taxpayer’s dime!

      • Cali says:

There is definitely something going on with her upper lip. Or maybe it’s new veneers pushing her lip out. She definitely has a poutier look. Not overdone but noticeable.
And that scar by her eye is weird. It’s not in an area where you would see a facelift or an eye job scar. It looks like she ran into the corner of a piece of furniture or something. It would have been pretty bad to leave something so noticeable.

      • StarWonderful says:

She might have had a skin peel (and some fillers), but other than that she looks like she did before.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

@Cali a lot of Kate Middleton’s supporters photoshop her to look how they want, and they usually roll her upper lip out, as she has never had one.

Because her smile is gummier, I am wondering if she got a lip lift to roll out her upper lip like her “fans” want her to have.

Who knows at this point, but her mouth does look different.

    • Annalise says:

      Wood,

That long deep scar snaking along her eye AIN’T from plastic surgery.

      • Agnes says:

Yes, that scar is new and it’s very prominent in the top photo chosen for this article. I don’t see any evidence of PS either. Her face is thinner though.

      • Harper says:

Kate may have had some cancer removed at some time, but she was gone for six months because she had SCARS. If you take another look at the Kate and CarolE car photo, one with the graininess removed, it’s now obvious that what looked like errant hairs on her forehead were scars. In the trooping photo you can still see the faint lines on her forehead crossing her eyebrow and the gouge by her eye.

The ride into London on the 28th was probably to get a top notch plastic surgeon to stitch her up. Surgical complications and the Concha reported coma may have occurred during reconstructive plastic surgery. CarolE tried to out her injuries but we all saw hairs instead of scars.

      • Jaded says:

There’s also something *off* about the right side of her mouth, which the angle of her flying saucer hat kept mostly in shadow. Most of the photographs of her show only the left side of her face. If the tension between the Wails on the balcony, and the obvious discomfort of the kids, isn’t reason to believe something bad went down, I don’t know what is.

      • Feeshalori says:

Possibly dislocated jaw hence new veneers if massive mouth injury?

    • bisynaptic says:

Was thinking the same thing. They did very good work. I wonder where, in that timeline, the cancer video fits in, because she does not now look like the woman sitting on that bench… except for being even thinner than she was, before.

      • bisynaptic says:

ETA: Now, I’m on the fence about cosmetic work. I’ve seen un-retouched pictures.

    • Aurora says:

She doesn’t look younger; if anything, at 42 she looks like a lady in her 50s who takes care of herself.
When she’s standing next to Charlotte, you can see their girth is very similar. Imo she wore white to disguise how much weight she’s lost. That’s also why her face might looks tight from some angles, which is clearly not the case in many photos. Tanning, heavy but expertisely done makeup and perhaps surface-level refreshments or a good pump-in of vitamins and collagen are doing the heavylifting here.
She might feel better and pressed to go out in public from boredom, need to reassure the kids or stop the proof of life demands. But she’s physically deteriorated and no serious practitioner would have performed PS on her. We wouldn’t be seeing a new scar in her face had she gotten PS.

      • MsIam says:

Yeah I’ve always thought plastic surgery was supposed to make someone look younger, but Kate looks 10 years older, imo. It could be that Eliza Doolittle outfit though. She looks like she’s been through something, whether its cancer or not who knows.

      • Nic919 says:

Plastic surgery isn’t always cosmetic surgery so if there was a need to do some repair work, then it is very possible a few things were adjusted on top of the repair work. She has in the past had a looser lower jaw and weight loss doesn’t tighten in up, in fact it usually makes it worse.

This probably isn’t an either or situation here which explains the mixed PR.

      • Sunny says:

Couldn’t agree more . She looks very old for 42 . No life or animation in the face but a lot of photoshopping and heavy makeup . She’s not in good shape . I think something , whatever that was , traumatic happened to her . That scar across her eye and forehead is nasty . It’s been photoshopped out in a lot of photos but not all .

    • The Hench says:

Even major facelifts don’t take 6 months to recover from. Some have you looking pretty normal within a month. Whatever the hell was the reason for her long absence might have included some tweaks but it isn’t down to just that.

Personally it doesn’t look like a facelift to me – or, if she did have one I would recommend she ask for her money back.

  7. Tessa says:

The trolls have hounded Meghan and harry. This article even trashes them

  8. K says:

Gross with the “lesser mortals ” thing. Now what I want is to know what is going on here. She looks very thin but she’s not looking any different to me. If she’d had a face lift she would not have jaw sagging and pouches along the jaw . Which is quite normal for us after 35 or so. I believe she’s had a cancer issue but there’s clearly other things behind the scenes. I don’t think we will ever know.

    • ML says:

K, I agree. In untouched closer photos, she still has age-appropriate jowls and eyelids. I thought she did appear tired, and this family has a history of attacking cakes with swords while dying or presenting babies to the public after birth. Meghan gripped Harry’s hand and smiled for the cameras, too. It’s inhumane.
I think she’s physically fighting an illness, but there’s clearly more going on.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

The unretouched photos look so bad comparatively, I’m thinking they’re obligated to photoshop her to look ten years younger. Very strange, that’s not done for Charles,

  9. Pinkosaurus says:

The Rota syncophants are showing their whole a$$es again with the completely over-the-top plaudits for the most minimal show of effort from the BRF. Sadly, this here’s no reason not to since there’s no consequences other than briefly getting clowned on social media. These idiots will still get book deals and spots in the US media purportedly as “royal experts”. I’m actually most disgusted with respectable entertainment shows like Entertainment Tonight and the network morning shows giving them legitimacy because I don’t expect anything better from the rancid British media.

    • Christine says:

I know exactly what you are talking about. The derangers are straight up pulling common comments from tweets about Meghan and Harry, and slapping them up for Kate. Think: “We’ve been eating WELL this weekend!”

She released a photo and statement and then she got in a car, then a carriage, then stood on a balcony. That’s it, that’s all she did. She didn’t bring attention to a worthy organization, or donate anything, she was just there. If this is the type of behavior you think is worthy of praise, worse this “lesser mortals” article appealed to you, I genuinely feel sorry for you. Very sorry for you.

      • Anonymous says:

I don’t think she released anything . She is not the one in control here . She’s told what to do . It was obvious from the body language of her and the kids that none of them wanted to be there . They were forced to do this as the calls for proof of life were getting louder again . As Harry said in Spare , nothing is as it appears with this so called family .

  10. ML says:

The Telegraph did not read the room. Methinks that they put pressure on the BRF to exhibit the previously missing K. Hence the juvenile dig at H&M who aren’t helping them fill pages of content. Then of course, they praised K/ the people who had her show up.

And during elections in the UK, which are partially reckoning with the aftermath of cuts to a limping NHS was sooo incredibly dumb.

  11. Digital Unicorn says:

That was a shocking article and am so glad its getting the dragging it has been – as I said yesterday there was a LOT of people calling out how ‘fresh’ she looked esp for someone who’s supposedly getting regular chemo – I’ve seen the toll regular chemo takes on people, its brutal. You just need to look at Charles to see what it looks like – chemo does not give you a tan, a tighter face and some new teeth.

Am beginning to think that was her in the farm video – post facelift while it was still settling. Cosmetic surgery (maybe gone wrong) is the only explanation that I can see that fits with all the shenanigans of the past 6 months. They might have found some cancer but it was removed and her ‘preventative’ treatment shouldn’t have lasted more than a few sessions – I have a few friends who had that after surgery to remove cancer. Either the whole story is a lie or its a cover for MH treatment.

Cams was not happy to see her there – she stole their limelight. The release of that photo and confirmation the day before struck me as an attempt to steal attention from the King and Queen and it worked. Cams will not be happy with them – expect some nasty stories about the Wails and the Middletons to appear in the press.

Also they are trolling Kate with that ‘My Fair Lady’ reference.

    • Agnes says:

I couldn’t figure out who was trolling whom! Surely Kate knew her outfit was a dead ringer for Eliza “Move Your Blooming Arse” DoLittle’s, and surely she’s aware she’s called Duchess DoLittle? Don’t tell me she’s developed a sense of humor in the past six months.

      • Maggie says:

You say surely Kate knew her outfit was a dead ringer for Eliza Dolittle’s. Maybe you’re giving her too much credit – wealth and pretty clothes and status are often not accompanied by general knowledge.

    • Jais says:

Pre-Meghan, wasn’t her nickname duchess dolittle? So yeah, it’s an interesting reference.

    • rosa mwemaid says:

I still think the woman at Windsor was the look alike, she has a slightly more pointed chin than Kate. My immediate reaction was, it’s not Kate. The telegraph complains about the rumours but if KP doesn’t want rumours it shouldn’t try to deliberately deceive people.

      • Agnes says:

She was definitely a lookalike. I have never seen Kate look happy and relaxed around William and that woman did.

      • ML says:

I don’t believe that the woman in the farm store video was K, but KP never said that it was fake. In fact, Victoria Newton went on record saying that it was aboveboard…was the man in that video actually the real William? Or does he have an excellent doppelgänger?

    • Karmaflower says:

Hi. I’ve always had skin like porcelain. After chemo, my skin tone definitely changed. Slightly tan. Absolutely not porcelain anymore.
      It can happen.

    • aftershocks says:

@Digital Unicorn, that was definitely NOT Kate in the farm video! It was Kate lookalike, Gabriella Munro Douglas (Kate’s less famous lookalike). Munro Douglas has a longer face, slightly different body proportions, longer legs, and a different gait.

  12. Tessa says:

I wonder if Carole played a part in the article then she can say the middletons are above mere mortals.

  13. Em says:

The weaponization of cancer to attack Meghan and now other folks is disgusting. What do these people want? They’ve swept the racist allegations/ maltreatment of Meghan and Harry under the rug, taken their house , ostracized them and their children and the Sussexes haven’t publicly said any negative thing about the royal family and are trying to start their lives out of it by launching their various ventures. Kate is smiling like that cat got the cream because she really did so why are they still attacking the Sussexes and why do they still need such sycophantic articles?

    • Julia says:

Because all is not well and the media know it but they can’t report anything because it would damage their access to the monarchy. Something is not right and it is noticeable in the way the royals were interacting with each other. A social impact report that was released last week showed that the percentage of people in who think they that it is important for the UK to have a monarchy is 54% down from 68% in 2018 when H&M got married. So they are ramping up the propaganda to prop up a dying monarchy.

      • rosa mwemaid says:

The anti-Meghan propaganda just convinces me we need to get rid of the Monarchy. All that is bad that has happened to Meghan since we knew about her is a result of the behaviour of the Royals and the British media.

  14. Miranda says:

It really seems like they can’t praise Kate without putting down someone else (which is a bit of an insult, if you ask me. Is she not good enough on her own? No. No, she is not). It’s bad enough when it’s the Sussexes, but at least they are legitimate competitors for publicity. Trashing people with cancer is staggeringly f–king LOW. If I were Kate, I would call it out. Say that it was egregious and callous. If she does not, it must be assumed that she’s fine with people saying the most vile nonsense as long as she gets to look like Saint Catherine.

    (She won’t say a f–king thing.)

    • Carmen says:

No, she won’t. She doesn’t have enough sensitivity to understand how despicable and inappropriate and hurtful that article was.

    • Linney says:

I one hundred percent agree with Miranda. Why is it that articles praising the perfect Wales family have to make some negative reference to other people who aren’t as perfect? LOL! Haven’t the majority of articles about William and Kate brought in negative references to Harry and Meghan? Now these idiots have to slam cancer patients? It is absolutely disgusting. I remember when Meghan had Archie, she didn’t want to do the “standing on the steps looking perfect” routine because she felt that was an unrealistic view of women who had babies and was an implied criticism of the rest of us who leave the hospital feeling like used rags. So now Saint Kate is being held up as the height of perfection because despite her cancer battle (which I absolutely don’t believe is true) she is out there doing her job and looking perfect? The insensitivity and cruelty is off the charts, and they are too self-absorbed and stupid to realize.

    • Alice B. Tokeless says:

Exactly. She can only feel the sun when she’s shoving someone else into the shade. Despicable.

    • Becks1 says:

Agreed, she won’t say anything. As long as the press praises her, she doesn’t care who they are trashing.

    • First comment says:

@Miranda, I was thinking the same thing! In her place, I would have been terribly embarrassed by this and I’d have called it out…it’d be a good opportunity to do something for all those people who “shared ” with her their own history with cancer in the thank you notes. But, I guess that a woman who only made a statement through KP to deny botox and extentions and not to correct a complete false story about her sister in law, could never do that…after all, I’ve a feeling that this article comes from the Middleton camp, so they are probably OK with it. Who knows? If someone in KP reads the room (and this site), it could happen.

    • Eurydice says:

There doesn’t seem to be anyone left in that family who has common decency.

  15. Brassy Rebel says:

Embiggening a member of the elite who took six months off for some kind of medical treatment is really telling the regular folks in the UK what the aristos and their sycophants think of them. And less than a month to go until the election.

  16. Hypocrisy says:

Well that didn’t take long 🤦🏻‍♀️.. they just can’t help themselves from torpedoing any situation where they actually should be getting positive publicity. This one was extremely tone deaf and vulgar.

  17. Jks says:

This is disgusting beyond words. I know these aren’t Kate’s own words but she is still not a sympathetic figure and this kind of sycophantic garbage does nothing to make her any more likeable.

Right now, I’m inclined to believe that she’s just f-ing lazy, milking a minor cancer scare for all its worth, done some subtle cosmetic enhancements and probably negotiating her divorce settlement.

  18. Cassie says:

Oh dear lord , what an over the top adulation of a rich woman who has barely worked a day in her life and has the luxury of the best of treatment and 6 months of privacy to do it .
What an absolute insult to normal people who have to work to provide for their families .
People who have to find parking spaces at hospitals to get treatment and get parking fines if their treatment goes too long .
People who lose their homes because they only have one income coming in .
People who have to rely on family or welfare just to survive the financial burden of a loved one being treated for cancer .
The Royalists and their media disciples are absolutely putting down people suffering ,just to put this woman on a pedestal simply because she married into this hideous family .
Having watched family members go through hell , fighting to save the life of a loved one ,all the time trying to survive financially , I feel bloody angry right now .
I have never heard of the person who wrote this simpering garbage , but she should be sacked from her job .

    • Jais says:

So I’ve heard of Allison Pearson from reading Mic Wright’s bottleboy substack over the years. Not sure if he’s still writing it but man it was always an epic line by line take down of the British media. Here’s one of his scathing reviews of Allison Pearson for anyone interested. It will give you a very good idea of the depths of depravity in which Pearson regularly dwells.

      https://brokenbottleboy.substack.com/p/a-shower-of-bastards-in-search-of

      • equality says:

Love the title and the article.

      • Lola says:

I went to work while on active chemo. Where’s my reward article?

      • bisynaptic says:

        Mic Wright is wonderful.

      • Jaded says:

        Great article, thanks for posting!

      • aftershocks says:

Thanks so much @Jais for linking this scathing takedown of the vile rota and hypocritical British media for their unrelenting and nonsensical gaslighting attacks against H&M! I had not seen this apt commentary by Mic Wright at the time of the Netflix documentary’s November 2022 release. Wright is fair-minded and clear-sighted in his critical observations of rota/ tabloid’s vicious H&M knocks, and of The Guardian reviewers’ contradictory takes on the H&M documentary. Wright’s in-depth commentary is insightful and refreshing in its honesty.

I especially appreciate how Wright completely debunks the false narrative claiming ‘Harry was led astray by exotic Meghan.’ 🙄 Wright gives us excerpts of Harry’s own words (from several pre-Meghan interviews) which evidence his early annoyance with the British media and his consistent unease with the royal circus.

Yay for Wright calling out Piss Morgan’s two-faced treachery and his oversized “ego visible from orbit.” Right-on, too, for Wright critiquing the vile audacity of grifting rota ratchets, Morgan, and Allison Pearson, who each boldly declare that they know Harry’s dead mother better than he does! Furthermore, Wright’s takedown of lying ‘Camel-Toe,’ is well-deserved. 👏🏽 Wright is on-target in calling out Tominey as ‘an abysmal writer,’ who flouts:
“garbage opinions … [and] hyperbolic, half-cocked metaphors. It’s truly embarrassing that Tominey’s tortured copy is considered worthy of a national newspaper.” Boom! 💥 🫳🏽🕳

  19. cazzie says:

Kate was brought out for one reason only imho, to draw attention away from the obviously ailing King. He looks more and more ashen and unwell as time goes on. She looked NO different to how she looked in December, except she has a new padded/push up bra?? Nice tan, smooth botoxed forehead, nicely coloured and coiffed hair. She was wearing high heels and her muscly over-trained legs were very much as they were. Her treatment has obviously worked wonderfully. So the glamour has returned (simply all that was needed to boost the Monarchy into the stratosphere of popular opinion once more apparently). The coldness between the Wales’ on the balcony was quite evident. Ive seen gifs of where he’s apparently snarling at her and she’s talking through gritted teeth back, but I know these can be manipulated so take them with a pinch of salt. I watched the clips later on in the evening, so there would have been editing in abundance to fit the ‘theyre so much in love’ narrative there. Alison Pearson is employed by the Telegraph, and GBNews too btw, and her Editor is Camilla Tominey, great friend to Carole Middleton. Just saying!! Also interesting to see Pearson use ‘trouper’ rather than ‘trooper’. Latter is of course referring to soldiers, but the former is an actor or other entertainer. Fitting. Oh and a couple of news programmes/and one paper referred to Saturday as her first appearance since Christmas Day? What about the TMZ pictures and THAT video though. They cant even be bothered to keep their stories straight anymore.

    • rosa mwemaid says:

Yes, you would think that after six months of being so ill the muscles would have at least partially faded away, her legs look just the same, so she could manage either gym or long frequent walks.

      • Meredith says:

Exercise helps minimize the negative side effects of chemo (nausea etc.). An active person would definitely try to continue exercising once they recovered from any surgery that restricted exercise (6-8 weeks).

    • sparrow1 says:

Agree re she was brought out for other purposes. I don’t think she wanted to be there at all. I can see the Charles angle, now you mention it.

  20. Eurydice says:

Yikes, who would willingly write something like this? Does she actually believe this crap or are these talking points from KP? I mean this is so offensively worded that it almost seems like a clap back at KP, “you want fawning, I’ll give you fawning . “

    • sparrow1 says:

Kate definitely has her particular columnists. They never fail her. If your bread and butter is Kate, you’re going to carry on churning out this kind of stuff. I just wish they’d leave Meghan out of it. Pearson recently used that horrible “there’s class and then there’s brass” line to have a go at Meghan.

  21. Pinniped and Poodle says:

Pitting people against each other is their whole schtick, is is all they got.

When they pit people against people of other colors/nationalities it usually works.

Against people with cancer? Not so much

  22. Lulu says:

Apparently she could have went last week to the event where she is colonel but wore that apology note full of poor grammar. She wouldn’t have had the same attention at Saturdays trouping if she had been seen the week prior.

    • Meredith says:

Without knowing her chemo/treatment schedule, there is no way to know what she was capable of doing on any other day. Cancer treatment is full of truly terrible days mixed with feeling fine days, depending on the chemo/radiation schedule.

  23. WithTheAmerican says:

Always with the pitting people against others. Kate can’t shine unless she’s above others. That’s why this message has a Ma Middleton ring to it and I do hold Kate accountable for that. Tatler’s “Kate the Great” is the Telegraph’s “Kate the Superior Being.”

Kate had her uncle bash Meghan on his reality TV appearance during her “cancer” treatment, Middleton sanctioned, definitely lesser being behavior.

    • Keke Swan says:

She looks exactly the same. I’m starting to think the whole thing was a hoax. Using cancer as an excuse to slack off for six months, then swanning in like nothing’s any different, the last six months never happened.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

She better hope this isn’t true or if it is, that no one outs her because William has kept himself distant from the cancer announcement and follow up for a reason.

This will only hurt her if she’s found out.

      • Indy says:

Lesser mortals have to work and take care of themselves. W & K wouldn’t last a month if they had to get an actual job.

  24. Amy Bee says:

In an attempt to attack Meghan, Allison Pearson ended up insulting cancer survivors and their families instead. I love this for her and Kate.

  25. bisynaptic says:

So, she showed up… and looked pretty. That is the full depth of these people.

    • Jais says:

Right? It was such a choreographed return to show that the pretty princess still exists. See, she never puts a foot wrong like those lesser mortals. This whole thing, her return combined with the fawning coverage, actually feels like a tonal misstep. Honestly, having her first moment back be a joint event with Charles for something supporting cancer might have played better. It’d still be a ridiculous self-serving spectacle though. So this tonal misstep actually does feel like very on brand for Kate.

  26. slippers4life says:

How are they so bad at this? How do they make her first public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis all about being mean spirited towards people with cancer who don’t have all the privileges she has? How do they still manage to make this about Meghan? They really cannot PR their way out of a wet paper bag. Like honestly. All she needed to do was show up and everyone, literally everyone was saying good things. But you’re mad that Nacho instragrammed Meghan’s jam. Literally just leave it and nobody would have cared. But instead you need to get mad about jam and dog biscuits on Nachos Instagram and manage to insult people with cancer to boot. FfS

    • WithTheAmerican says:

Yeah everyone was saying she looked great, but apparently her carriage was booed and attendance was down so they’re propping her up with hate against other cancer patients.

I guess they figure their bootlickers are so cowed they’ll take anything from this lot.

      • After seeing her on Saturday I do not think she has or had cancer. I think she had a facelift because she looks better than she has in years. Charles looks dreadful ,tired gray, like my Dad did after chemo. No, Kate had a facelift.

      • WithTheAmerican says:

Ellie she definitely looked a lot better than Charles and better than she had before she disappeared.

    • Sunny says:

This is from KP . They know exactly what they’re doing .

  27. Proud Mary says:

I know someone who is showing up for work everyday, while in the midst of chemo treatment. Royalist will have no problem supporting this disgusting article. And of course, Kate is amazing, but you can’t talk about her without mentioning Meghan. So uncouth. It just makes me despise Kate even more. I’m just happy that her supporters won’t be here decrying the dragging that she so richly deserves.

  28. Belli says:

Watching this piece with interest since we know that KP can and will have articles changed or removed if they don’t like them.

Even apart from the disgusting put down of cancer patients, there is some absurdist comedy in saying “lesser mortals would stay at home” when Kate has stayed at home for an entire six months.

    • Nic919 says:

KP has acted far sooner on things like the Tatler article. That we are a few days after this has been out plus the social media reaction? Pretty bad look.

  29. Libra says:

Please give Kate her participation trophy so we can all move on.

  30. LivingDesert says:

    OMG.
    “Lesser mortals?”
Can it get even more medieval?

    • Feeshalori says:

Right? It sounds like Greek mythology, as if a goddess deigned to step down from Mount Olympus to grace the plebs with her rarified presence. What an utterly offensive, insulting and tone deaf article.

    • sparrow1 says:

It is really yuck. Infantile. At her age, there is no way Pearson hasn’t had close contact with several people she’s now called lesser mortals. I wonder how they’re feeling.

    • Meredith says:

It’s so gross. She is neither better nor worse than a cancer patient who can/must work more than her, or one who cannot even get up and wave from a balcony on a particular Saturday. People (non-royals) with cancer are all just struggling to survive both medically and economically— and putting a princess on a pedestal about a balcony session is a terrible look. In the king’s case, he’s trying to save the whole monarchy so he’s (in a weird way) slightly more akin to the dude in Detroit who needs to keep working to feed his family!

  31. Mslove says:

These “ lesser mortals” paid for Keen’s six month vacation. Why do so many people live in poverty? Because rich people like the Windsors benefit from it.

  32. QuiteContrary says:

My late, lovely sister kept teaching her students with special needs even as she suffered through chemo and radiation. She finally had to be ordered to stop teaching by her oncologist—that’s how devoted she was to her students. She was Kate’s superior in every way that matters. Not a lesser mortal FFS.
F*ck Pearson and the monarchist trash.

    • Serenity says:

@QuiteContrary: I am so sorry to hear about your lovely sister. She sounds like a wonderful person, and I am sure she made a huge difference to her students’ lives.

This is why I’m so appalled at the ‘lesser mortals’ crap. Kate would never put another person’s needs above her own, even if she’s *healthy*. I don’t believe she had cancer. I think she actually loves this crap being written about her, and I believe that throwing Meghan under the bus makes her even happier. Insulting cancer patients will not even be a blip on her radar, she’s so ignorant and clueless.

  33. aquarius64 says:

I same the blow up on the X app and Pearson is getting the roasting she deserves. I didn’t know the “writer” took a cheap shot at Meghan and Harry so it tells me this garbage article was sanctioned by KP. This weekend of the return of Kate didn’t come out so well: first Getty Images put a disclaimer of June 14 picture of Kate under the tree; then Kate was booed in the carriage procession during TTC; now she’s slammed for her privilege that affords her time off for cancer recovery (even that is suspicious,) while others without advantages soldier on. Kate won’t speak out of fear of antagonizing the press.

  34. Lau says:

Given the state of the UK at the moment I highly doubt that it “was the tonic that Britain needed” really.

    • Eurydice says:

It was the tonic the BM needed. They were running out of ways to say “Will Harry be attending _____?”

      • rosa mwemaid says:

Doesn’t stop them saying that Meghan tried to distract from Kate’s appearance. The fact that Kate’s appearance did distract from the King’s birthday parade of course hasn’t occurred to them.

  35. sparrow says:

It was good to see her, in that it silenced the “proof of life” and the “something nefarious has been done to her” brigade, ditto the people who thought social workers should be checking up on the kids. I’m in the camp that believes she didn’t want to do this, however. I know people are saying she loved the attention, but I actually think she was not forced but perhaps pressured into this by the palace. She’s incredibly lucky to be receiving the best care and also the ability to take the time off. Pearson needs to be far more understanding of the “average” person going through this ordeal; the one who has to carry on with work, be out and about, look after a household without staff, perhaps look after kids, arrange every damn thing like nothing is going on. (sparrow1)

  36. Cait says:

3 years ago next week, I had a bilateral mastectomy and nearly died from internal bleeding. I was 42 when diagnosed, and a working mother of 3 (I’m still a working mother of 3, fwiw). Cancer is a wildly different journey for different people, especially those who are not as well resourced with the financial and staffing support Kate has. I genuinely hope she recovers with minimal damage to her body longterm, but this article incensed me as one of those “lesser mortals” who survived breast cancer.

  37. samipup says:

So how much are those photos manipulated, geez..

  38. February pisces says:

One thing to remember is that these articles are a collaboration between KP and the tabloids, which means Kate would have okayed it. Well atleast she back to being her true bitch self and stepping on literally anyone (in this case cancer sufferers) to prop herself up.

  39. swaz says:

Someone always has to be insulted to elevate Kate.

  40. LightPurple says:

Lesser mortal here! Went to work for 5 hours on the day of my first surgery, which was the one that led to the breast cancer diagnosis. Took the remaining 2 days of the week off for recovery, which involved going to medical appointments. Returned to work on the following Monday, worked the whole week and had the second surgery on Saturday. Doctors kept me out of work for 2 weeks to heal – I was ready but they feared infection and wouldn’t remove stuff or give clearance. For the next 11 months, I scheduled chemo appointments for 4:30 PM and 3 months of daily radiation appointments for 7 AM. Otherwise, I did not miss a single day of work. I had a better attendance record than my 6 supposedly healthy colleagues. I do realize abdominal surgery can be a difficult recovery but I’ve had abdominal surgery too and was back to work in 2 weeks.

She rode in a pretty carriage and stood on a balcony with her family 6 months after surgery. This is an insult to everyone who has had cancer and other serious illnesses.

    • Jaded says:

      +1,000,000!!

    • Unblinkered says:

Another lesser mortal here! The journalist should be made aware that most lesser mortals would have been back at work, in some form, within a few short weeks of cancer operations. And most definitely long before six months.
It’s a case of having to.
We’d give anything for six months off on full pay to heal. Anything.

  41. BeanieBean says:

    Barf.

  42. Jaded says:

    Dear Allison Pearson:

I’m a Canadian and, therefore, a member of the Commonwealth (albeit unwilling). I am currently battling cancer. I underwent grueling surgery, a long recovery, and now have a urostomy appliance. I am facing an equally grueling round of chemo starting next month. I also cook, clean, shop, exercise and get out for my daily walks. I socialize with a small group of friends and I keep a smile pasted on my face and try my utmost to keep my life normal for myself and Mr. Jaded, and our cat who is constantly attached to me these days.

I guess that makes me a “lesser mortal” because I haven’t disappeared for 6 months. I hope you or someone on your team read CB because that was one of the most insulting, needlessly disparaging articles I’ve ever read. No, I haven’t curled up in a ball in my jim-jams watching TV endlessly and feeling sorry for myself, I’ve done far more than Kate, and how dare you use the amazing, compassionate Audrey Hepburn as an example of Kate’s so-called courage? Garbage like yours shouldn’t be printed.

    • sparrow says:

My mind immediately went to you, Jaded. What an insult.

    • Cait says:

Jaded, I’m crossing all appendages for you.

    • what's inside says:

Heaven’s blessings to you and yours. You are a hero.

    • WithTheAmerican says:

Keeping you in my thoughts Jaded. I’m so sorry you had to read an article like that, it’s disgusting.

    • Lady D says:

Thinking about you daily, Jade. I’m happy to see your posts. I think about Mary Pester too. If you see this, we miss you Mary.

    • rosa mwemaid says:

It was an appalling article, heartless.

    • blueberry says:

I always love reading your thoughts, Jaded <3 I hope these people continue to be dragged for their depraved insults

    • therese says:

Jaded, one never knows what another is going through, and how valiant and brave they have to be and are, such as you, without going about their lives preceded with fife, drum band, flags and marching troops. My prayers go with you. I wish I was your neighbor, I would bake you pound cake, and try to help you. What these idiots try to detract from, they draw attention to.

  43. Mel says:

Do they know how disrespectful, tone deaf and privileged this sounds? “Lesser “mortals still have to get up and go to work every day, to clean their homes and take care of their families even when they have chemo because they have responsibilities and bills that they have to pay because they aren’t public leeches. She got to sit on her behind and do nothing for 6 months. Any sympathy I may have felt for her is gone and guess what, I don’t believe she’s still sick and I don’t believe she’s undergoing chemo. I think she took her power play too far and was told to get off her behind of there would be consequences. This is so tacky.

    • Sunny says:

Of course they know how this comes across . It’s so ridiculous . They are obviously trolling her .

  44. what's inside says:

My two cents’ worth: She is sick. Sunken, tired eyes, lines on her forehead, jowls still present, skeletal skinny. I see no evidence of the surgical scars around the ears and hairline from facelift. The alleged scar around the left eye – it disappears with lighting. Makeup was especially thick on the eyebrows and the wonky eyebrow disappears. Her kids are extremely stressed. It seems they have been drilled on what to do for this appearance from how to stand to how to the placement of their hands. No one is happy, not even Louis. Something terrible is going in that family. Charles is looking completely washed out, pale loose skin, and something is wrong with the coloring of his mouth.

    • Interested Gawker says:

      “– it disappears with lighting.”

It was disappeared with photo retouching.

It’s been amusing to see people who had no idea of the absurd amount of sweetening editing all Kate’s BM photos routinely received trying to pin down what her real face actually looks like for comparisons against the Trooping pictures. That Tatler portrait was actually sheer genius.

      • Wagiman says:

Indeed. People don’t kmow what Kate looks like. The Denmark pics are a good guide.

  45. LDMiddx says:

I am grateful to be able to read the gist of this article on here. I knew of it (had seen the obnoxious header which told me everything I needed to know) but I had no intention of buying this ‘newspaper’ (otherwise known as the Torygraph) to read it in full. I have enough toilet paper at home already.

It fulfilled my (low) expectations as to how bad the article really is. It is so stunningly disrespectful to all the people I know who have struggled to work as much as they can in the face of serious illness and often without much recognition. Some of them work from home so they are able to work at all – to be casually dismissed as ‘lesser mortals’.

I am personally ashamed that a so called quality ‘newspaper’ in the UK sees fit to publish an article like this one. The contempt of the Establishment and those propping them, for regular people who have the temerity to get sick, is on full display here.

  46. Tessa says:

This is so anachronistic like when Roman emperors were considered deities.

  47. bettyrose says:

Genuflecting pillow fluffers is my punk band. That is all.

  48. Flow says:

I think at this point they are trolling. The title seems too ridículous. They want Kate to get criticism, and they dont have anything to say of her so they put those over the top stuff. They cant be so out of tone. They are mocking her, a lazy woman who wants praise because she got câncer while other mortals need to work.

    • Sunny says:

Totally agree . She had nothing to do with this article . They are so obviously trolling her . It’s completely over the top and ridiculous and designed to turn people against her . Can’t believe anyone’s falling for it . This has her pathetic husband’s fingerprints all over it .

    • SURE says:

Your comments make me wonder whether “someone” is trying to smoke out a response from K because the truth about her situation is not exactly in line with what we’ve been fed by KP.

  49. Kat says:

This Allison Pearson should be sacked now.She has insulted all cancer sufferers.Saying they are sitting at home curled up in their Jim jams while Saint Catherine is a real trouper by wearing a white designer dress and high heels after stepping out of a fairy tale carriage, with a perfectly coiffed full head of hair and looking ”amazing”.
What exactly has Saint Catherine being doing for the last 6 months on tax payer’s money?
Go away Allison and hang your head in shame.

  50. Bad Janet says:

I cannot believe I just read this condescending s#!t. “Lesser mortals with your illness would have stayed home, tucked up in their jim-jams.” OH REALLY. Because people with cancer are getting up and going to work every day, and doing more than standing on a balcony waving at people.

I can’t believe they just managed to insult cancer patients in particular, along with the general public, in this ridiculous effort to prop up Kate.

I have a long list of health problems but thankfully not cancer. And yes Alison, staying in bed would be awesome some days but I worked 2 to 3 jobs for over 50 years so I could retire. And now I volunteer even on days I can barely get out of bed.

But this made me think of my nephew who had half his spine replaced with rods because of a one in a million type of cancer. It was so rare they had no idea what would happen. Turns out he survived 10 years, pain all day every day, often in palliative care for pain management (morphine) and of that 10 years he ran a Cafe for 7. He cooked, he made the coffee, he was on his feet in incredible pain every single day, 6 days a week.

I agree these are collabs and palace approved. And I still don’t believe the cancer story. And I still think she’s a horrible person. Sorry, Saint Kate you ain’t..

The woman showed up. Hallelujah. Mere mortals should be grateful and kiss the hem of her skirt. Oh, by the way, why was she away for six months? Only the balcony could truly smoke her out. This is probably the highlight of her life. She served, but what and whom did she served? Only herself.
The Kate hagiography, written by Kate. WTF?

This weekend I attended my cousin’s wedding. She’s stage 4 colon cancer. She’s in a trial right now that is really the last shot (the results so far are promising). She works part time, her now husband (who was with her before the diagnosis and has stayed, he’s truly one of the great men you read about) has handled her appointments, transporting her, holding her hand (or her hair) during side effects, taking notes during appointments, taking care of her after numerous surgeries….

I’m 5 years into remission for bladder cancer. I worked through my treatment…full time (because in America healthcare is often tied to your job) in a public facing job, raising my autistic son as a single mom, going through 3 years of treatment before remission, resections, tests, scopes…

This chick is not going to define ‘lesser mortals’ to me and Kate gets no extra credit to walking onto a balcony and waving for a few minutes. Though I’m glad she’s appeared so I have no reason to talk about her (I love guessing games and conspiracies….I fell into the hole a bunch of times on this, my own fault) she is no hero or inspiration.

BTW my cousin was gorgeous and stunning in her wedding gown, colostomy and all (please don’t fear stomas, they are life saving), she looked so much happier than Kate has ever approached.

  54. HuffnPuff says:

This from Nicholls really takes the cake: “if you didn’t know that she was going through cancer treatment, you would never have guessed.“ So not only are non-royal cancer patients and survivors lesser mortals, it’s also horrible to look like you have cancer when you have cancer. They need to just stop with this stuff. It’s all very insulting and dehumanizing. These folks also need to remember that she’s had specialized care, staff to do cooking, cleaning and whatever else plus 6 months off to deal with this whatever it is.

  55. equality says:

The “lesser mortals” staying home explains the attendance at TOC, I guess. (s)

    • Liz says:

There are millions of examples of better mortals battling illness, carrying on, running a home, out working and being strong and stoic.

All doing it without fuss or an army of servants.

Many have shared their stories here.

  56. rosa mwemaid says:

Lesser mortals would stay at home. Kate did stay at home so she is a lesser mortal, meanwhile all those who had to work to support their families when they were having chemo are greater mortals.

  57. Sasha says:

Cancer is dreadful for anyone but very few could afford to focus only on their recovery. What a privilege. I’d be curious to know what a royal protocol for cancer looks like. What kind of diet is she on? Does she just rest all day? I hope she will be ok as much as I hope any person to be ok, but she really is very lucky to have the best care that could exist.
