Last fall Glamour Magazine declared that Brooke Shields was in “Her F–k It Era.” Of course, my takeaway from that article was that overhydrating is your ticket to eating all the potato chips a girl could want. And then heaps more. But I digress… Brooke proved once again this weekend why Glamour got it right. She attended the Tony Awards on Sunday as a presenter, the first since being elected president of Actors’ Equity. The only hitch was, she’d had double foot toe surgery three days prior. But no biggie! Brooke had arguably the most comfortable walk on the red carpet, as she posed for photographers proudly showing off the Lay’s chip brand sunshine yellow Crocs that perfectly matched her Monique Lhuillier dress:
Brooke Shields chose to forgo the standard red carpet shoe attire at Sunday’s 2024 Tony Awards — for good reason.
Ditching the typical high-heels associated with such high-profile events, the actress wore clogs-style Crocs under her yellow dress. The shoes were the same color as her sequined gown. She showed off the shoes to photographers on Sunday night.
“I got my Crocs! I couldn’t do this in heels!” she said in a red carpet interview with People on Sunday.
The reason for the comfort attire? A day before the Tonys, Shields noted on Instagram that she was recovering from “double foot toe surgery.” The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to her reps for additional information.
It’s not the first time Shields has matched clogs with high fashion. In 2008, she was spotted wearing a long hot-pink gown with matching clogs.
In May, Shields was elected president of the Actors’ Equity Association, the union that represents about 51,000 actors and stage managers on Broadway and nationwide.
She beat out Erin Maureen Koster, a stage manager and third vp at Actors’ Equity, and Wydetta Carter, an actor who had been serving as Equity’s first vp. Shields will serve a four-year term.
“I promise to lead with strength and compassion, and I will stand up for you and command the respect that we deserve as an acting community,” Shields wrote on Instagram following the vote. “Also to those who ran, I did not run against you, I ran with you and for you. I look forward to listening to you.”
I do not wear high heels. It’s not a feminist statement, it’s a protest by my feet. There are many heels out there that I think are beautiful and very often complete “a look.” It’s just that when I attempt movement in them, I look like some unholy mash-up of Humpty Dumpty and a newborn foal. Such is life. Rather than practice and try to improve my gait (because I’ve worn sneakers, my feet won’t stand for the stilt nonsense), I’ve taken the route of biding my time and waiting for the shoe revolution to break out on the red carpet. Our numbers are rising, victory is in sight.
So I wholeheartedly applaud Brooke for wearing Crocs, and I’d stand by that even if she hadn’t just had foot surgery. That being said… Brooke, honey, you know you can jazz up those kicks? They make Crocs for all occasions! Questlove continually ups his Oscars Crocs game with color, embellishments, and crystals. I know the shoe color matched the dress, but this is an awards show; we need more! It could’ve been as easy as some pearls to echo the earrings. Or random cupcakes to harken back to the mysterious dessert-art from her Actors’ Equity campaign video. To close by quoting a Sondheim musical: “So many possibilities…”

Speaking from experience…your F-Ck It Era is the best, ladies. Nothing puts a bigger smile on your face than the day that part of your life arrives!
COVID taught me – life is too short to be made uncomfortable in heels and binding stockings. The F–K It era is glorious indeed.
I, too, am in my f**k it era. It’s wonderful.
I found it is like dieting. You can’t maintain giving a f**k all the time, so it’s easier to actually give a f**k to give when you want or need to, instead of keeping the dial constantly turned up.
It is glorious, isn’t it? Getting older isn’t always fun, but not GAF about what people think of you anymore is by far the most fabulous aspect of it.
I also entered my f**ck it era during Covid. Close to 50 so I’m never going back!!!
This all day every day. Loving my no f*%ks era!
I’m there and it’s glorious!!
I’ve left my fuck ot era and have entered my fuck you era, and it’s just as delightful.
@Commentingbunny – I honestly think the world is better off that I’m not yet retired and I love and care about my career. Otherwise, there’d be no stopping my mouth from speaking my truths all the time.
Been there for years, I’ve always been advanced for my age. 😁
This isn’t an f you, she had foot surgery.
She looks lovely— that dress is the sort of Hollywood glam I see missing on red carpets. Fab color, fab cut. I wonder if her hair with more volume or pulled back would better complement the dress. Well, no matter, she looks great.
I too am a woman who has given up on heels. I prefer my stability running shoes to heels any day and my feet thank them for me. I don’t like crocs myself, but if this does it for Brooke, good on her.
Theres a Pringles Croc boot out there now that would have matched this dress too, including a side pocket for your mini-Pringles can in case you get hungry mid-award show… just sayin’…
I love Crocs!
I wear the ballet flats, Mary Jane’s, and tennis shoe Crocs for work – but they’re so comfy I wear them when I go on vacation too (along with Croc sandles).
That being said, more power to her but I wouldn’t be caught dead in those wacky clogs with the holes in them.
I hate that $#!t lol
Meh. I used to feel like that until I started kayaking. Maybe they’re not the most fashionable shoes but they are absolutely awesome for getting in and out of the water.
Um, where I live, podiatrists are totally against Crocs. So fashion-wise and functional-wise they get a huge No! from me, despite their excellent matching color and convenience.
The rest of her look I love, and I applaud her F-it era. It’s well deserved.
The only heels I wear nowadays are a few inches and block heels – my feet would sue me if I wore any others.
I almost bought a pair of Crocs that colour but got the white instead – I love them but they do stain easily but maybe thats cause I got the white ones LOL.
She looks fabulous.
Same!
My feet just do not like most heels
And given that I’ve had wide feet since I was a wee kindergartener it had always been a struggle to find heels that didn’t look dowdy or MOB-y anyway.
But one nasty run in with plantar fasciitis a few years ago drove home that my ability to stand and move freely and comfortably and to continue to do so for years to come is WAY more important than what other people think of my footwear, feet, ankles and calves.
I don’t like Crocs for myself, and have a weird repulsion to seeing grown 30+ yo men wearing them in public (see also shower shoes – yik! And while I’m at it pick up your feet when you walk sir, no one wants to hear you scuffing your plastic slides like a sullen 13 year old)
But she looks great and is having fun with it!
Yikes! I wouldn’t get caught dead in crocs. The horror. I am pretty sure Brooke did this on a dare. Good to see she has a sense of self-deprecating humor.
I feel the same about crocs. I don’t care how comfortable people say they are, the eye sore is just to much.
Yep, yep it’s a big no from me re: crocs. 🤢
But good for Brooke looking fabulous and clearly having fun despite foot surgery. Go girl!
They don’t give enough support for me. My nephew used to wear them and they stunk.
My teen son and all his friends love Crocs. LOVE THEM. It cracks me up when they decide they need to put them in “sports mode” or “off-road” by flipping the strap to the heel 😂
Croc’s have made a fashion come back – kids have always loved them but I see a LOT of teenagers and trendy 20 somethings wearing them.
I’m seeing the embellished ones a lot, too.
This.
People said the same thing about Uggs when they first came out and we’ve since learned that the shearling boot is here to stay. It’s the same with crocs: the buoyancy, the drainage holes etc will always make them a mainstay for boaters. And you can see how awesome they would be for kids and all the messiness they get into.
My nieces and nephews, 2, 4 and 8, have just gotten into crocs. They’re kind of expensive but they’ve been going to garage sales and buying the charms. Crocs will never be for me. I wear the pool slides all summer but cute ones!
Reading this on my office lunch break while wearing my Birkenstocks. I can fully relate, foot surgery or no.
There is really some societal pressure to wear heals, especially in corporate jobs. I have never given a second thought to not wearing heels, until I left my corporate job. Now, sneakers for life. All my feet problems disappeared now.
Personally, I hate Crocs. Here, I kind of get them as a statement look thing. But generally, hate them. I do like the color of the dress, but at least in these pictures it looks like plastic and I don’t like the fit either. She’s such a beautiful woman, but the dress doesn’t do her any favors, on the contrary. Altogether, it is a very fun look though.
Agree. I am curious what the material is.
Not a fan of crocs but she looks great. that is all.
I don’t know her personally,if that might have been her personal decision or her stylists. But this is what I miss about the red carpet. It’s just funny, witty and she looks great in that colour. Cudos to her. Please do more of that, Brooke.
I love comfort shoes. I only wear Birkenstocks, Haflinger clogs, and Stegmann clogs (who now have a very comfortable shoe line for women). But I hate Crocs. Too rubbery. I want natural materials on my feet. That said, good for Brooke! They match her dress perfectly.
As a mom to 4 Gen Zers, we’ve had tons of crocs over the past 15 years or so. My 2 youngest are competitive swimmers, so they actually have collections of crocs specifically for the pool deck! I must admit, we are big fans of goofy fashion. We have the limited edition KFC crocs, Lucky Charms crocs, Vineyard Vines Xmas crocs, Lightning McQueens, platforms…and more jibbits than you can count. IDK if this is true, but way back when they first became a thing in the aughts, rumor had it that the croslite material could be boiled down and eaten 😭 so supposedly they were not made of some harmful material. 🤷🏻♀️ I fully admit that could be an urban legend born from the minds of bored tweens.
I ruined my feet by wearing heels in my youth. I’ve got it all bunions. Neuromas. You name it. So I have to wear flats or low platform sandles. Birks are my live in shoe, but docs for winter are great too. At 62, I’ve been in my f*ck it era for awhile. I love Brooke!! She is adorable.
This really made me chuckle as in a series of fantasy books I read recently there’s a dragon who comes to earth and can turn into a man, meets a woman, etc. but he struggles to find suitable human footwear as a light sub-plot and at one point her ex-husband gifts him some ‘lucky’ yellow crocs that he absolutely loves and wears all the time to her horror.
As a shoe lover afflicted with wide feet (9.5D or 10D) constantly in some sort of pain, I love Crocs. I probably have 10 pairs in an assortment of colors and styles. We also have close to 100 Jibbitz and I routinely “fight” with my teenagers in an attempt to get them to share.
It’s important to routinely wash them in the shower or sink. I use a Magic Eraser on the white/light colored Crocs.
Same goes for Birkenstocks. Except they don’t get washed in the shower.
It’s incredibly challenging to find true wide shoes in fashionable styles and colors. I save the heels for special occasions and work functions.
People who run into her out and about say she is beautiful and lovely.
I stopped wearing all but the lowest of heels (like 1-1/2 inches max) decades ago. My feet never adapted to wearing them; they always hurt, my low back hurt, I’m just not built for them. As a result I have very healthy feet, dare I say pretty, while my heel-loving friends are all suffering from bunions, neuromas, etc. and some have had to have surgery. Good on Brooke, she seems like a truly lovely person.
I don’t like how they look, but they are so comfortable. They’re my house shoes, I put them on every day when I get home.
I can’t wear heels anymore, and never liked to anyway. I obliterated my ankle a few years back and still can’t do anything more than an inch at most. Not worth it.
