Jack Black pissed off MAGAs: ‘when democracy is at stake, Jack Black answers the call’

I just voted early in the NY primary. I’m a nerd and always get a rush in filling out my ballot, and yes I have a folder that’s covered with all my “I just voted!” stickers. Do I love the uptick in political calls/texts/emails I get during elections? Of course not. But you know what’s worse? Losing our democracy. So I’m glad to see Barack Obama and a bevy of Hollywood supporters out stumping for President Biden, and raising more than $30 million to boot. That is what happened at a Biden-Harris fundraiser last weekend in LA. In a sea of Oscar and Emmy winners, it was funnyman Jack Black who stole the show with an impassioned speech, and even bolder outfit:

“How incredible is it that years from now we’ll be able to tell our grandchildren that we saw two presidents of the United States on the same stage as Kung Fu Panda?”

So said Jimmy Kimmel while standing on the Peacock Theater stage on Saturday night during a star-studded fundraiser for President Joe Biden that featured the late night host moderating a chat with Biden and former President Barack Obama. The event, which raised north of $30 million, featured A-list headliners Kimmel, George Clooney and Julia Roberts on a program that also featured first lady Jill Biden, longtime Democratic supporters Barbra Streisand, Jason Bateman and Kathryn Hahn, and performances by the likes of Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Even with all that talent on the same stage, Jack Black, whom Kimmel credited for his longtime leading voice role as Kung Fu Panda, received a lion’s share of attention thanks to enthusiastic comments and a colorful ensemble. The veteran comedy star appeared in what he called his “kick-ass American flag overalls,” paired with a “Dark Brandon” T-shirt. A clip of his appearance went viral after being shared on X, formerly Twitter, by the official Biden-Harris HQ campaign account on Sunday morning. (The account also shared a link to buy the T-shirt — “best worn while vanquishing malarkey” — for $32.)

During the clip, Black jokes that he turned down offers to appear at everything from a bat mitzvah to a Jack in the Box opening in Oxnard to help stump for the president alongside Clooney and Roberts. “And when the president wins in November — yeah! — I’m pretty sure I’m going to get a sweet shout-out in his victory speech for what I gave up to be here,” he said. “Because when democracy is at stake, Jack Black answers the call. Mr. President, you’re welcome.”

I love Jack Black, and yes, I’m one of those fans who think he was absolutely robbed when he didn’t get an Oscar nomination for Bernie. He goes in big and he commits hard, and never breaks character. Not that he was fully acting here, but you know what I mean. In watching the video, you get to experience the total splendor of his presentation. First, the getup. He really did wear American flag overalls — shorts length, no less, that nicely showed off his pale blue socks pulled up to the shins, and brick-red shoes with matching laces. The sunglasses-clad, smiling Biden on the Dark Brandon tee poked out from the overalls just perfectly, and the entire look was complemented by Jack’s bushy beard. Sartorially, he looked like someone you’d find at a MAGA rally, which is extra fun for us because the MAGAs online are bigly mad at Jack for backing Biden. They’re crying salty white tears and declaring that Black is now on the banned list, a move I’m sure he’s just heartbroken over. As one Twitter user succinctly said, “Hell yeah we got Jack Black in the national divorce.” Whether you have stars & stripes overalls or not, go out and vote! Cause he’s not joking, democracy is at stake.

MAGA is angry at their breakfast cereal. For them to be mad at him for deciding who he’s going to vote for is crazy.
I’ve read about The Quaid brothers, Scott Baio, Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo for the last several years go on about Trump. All I did was roll my eyes and move on.
The fact no one stormed the capital over Hunter Biden has driven mad. Now they keep screaming Biden is going to pardon him.
    (He’s not)
I see the people are sick of Trump’s bootlickers in Congress. States that was hardcore red is flipping blue.
It’s sad for the Republicans who just want to do the job they were voted in for.

Maga is mad. Period. I saw on Luke Beasley’s YouTube Alex Jones’ latest rant. Oh boy… insanity runs deep.

But, Europe’s already in too deep with far right, this is no longer US election, this is a fight for world freedom. And more people need to speak up.

Saw this on Twitter yesterday and I just LOOOOOVED it! It was classic Jack Black and I am so glad we got him on our side!

  4. Cidee says:

I’ve always found him wildly attractive. Now even more so.

  5. TIFFANY says:

Jack was a Warren supporter before she dropped out and then he went all in when Biden got the nomination in 2020. This should surprise no one. Jack has always been solid and tries to be on the right side of history.

  6. Jamie42 says:

I love Jack Black. I hate the beard.

  7. Digital Unicorn says:

Love love love Jack Black – he’s such a talent actor and musician (Tenacious D is always on my playlist).

And yeah, vote for Biden like you actual life depends on it.

  8. TN Democrat says:

    Please vote blue!

  9. Debbie says:

Oh, my God. When Jack Black is the voice of reason, it’s time to panic.

    … (and VOTE!).

    • MrsBanjo says:

What do you mean by “when Jack Black is the voice of reason it’s time to panic”? By all accounts he’s a genuinely decent man. Why would anyone panic at him speaking up?

  10. Donna says:

Makes me want to go out and buy every Jack Black movie I can find. I’m already voting for Biden but every bit of support for Biden is great.

  11. LarkspurLM says:

    LOVE!

    VOTE VOTE VOTE!

And I love the fact he wore flag overalls, Dark Brandon T, etc. I feel like MAGAs use of OUR flag has in some ways, tainted it – ? I proudly hang my flag out on holidays and sometimes, just because. It’s America’s flag! The people’s flag!

  12. Ana Maria says:

I love Bernie too! and to me, both Jack Black and Matthew McConaughey deserved Oscar nominations for Bernie; Shirley McLaine too…

    • ChickieBaby says:

Agreed! Jack Black is really quite good at dramatic roles, especially playing them “quietly” (opposite his usual high-energy, extroverted comic side). He seems like a decent guy and someone to have lunch with.

  13. JoanCallamezzo says:

Now I’m looking for those overalls…

  14. Trillion says:

MORE OF THIS! Loving it. Love Jack Black – National Treasure.

  15. olliesmom says:

I love you Jack Black! Always have. Always will. School of Rock is one of my favorite movies.

    Jack Black is good people.

Jack has just gotten himself on Trump’s list but it won’t matter because Trump is going to lose BIGLY.

  16. Murphy says:

Wow the Magas are really stupid if they ever thought Jack Black was on their side. Read the room people.

  17. Rnot says:

Someone once joked that Jack Black is an avatar of Dionysus roaming the Earth and I’ve never been able to forget that thought.

  18. Just Chelle says:

I’ve always loved Jack Black, and this made me love him even more. 🫶

  19. martha says:

Even if you didn’t know who Jack Black is and saw him walking down the street dressed like that, you’d never mistake him for MAGA because he just radiates natural humor and kindness and no-bullshitness. MAGA could never.
