Shanna Moakler: ‘I don’t have to like the f’ing Kardashians’

Shanna Moakler had a rough 2023. Her mother passed away in January 2023 and her father passed away seven months later, in August. She also put herself back into the gossip sphere by inserting herself into the Kardashian news cycle by calling them “disgusting.” She also accused her ex-husband Travis Barker and his new wife, Kourtney Kardashian, of “parental alienation,” lamenting that she can’t buy her kids everything that they can. Shanna and Travis have two children together, daughter Alabama, 18, and son Landon, 20. She also has another daughter, Atiana De La Hoya, 24, whose father is Oscar De La Hoya. Atiana was raised by Travis.

Despite her terrible 2023, Shanna says that she’s in a much better place now. In a new exclusive interview with People, she said she’s made some amends with her children, is taking Mounjaro, and is still looking for love. She’s also once again talking about the Kardashians, but only to tell us how much she doesn’t like talking about them. Oh, and she doesn’t have to like them, okay?!

She was in a “very dark place:” “I was in a very, very dark place. I stopped dieting. I stopped exercising. I just ate like s—. I was so devastated, and I missed my f—ing mom and dad. I was like, ‘I’m going to f—ing eat the pain away. [P]aparazzi were at my front door from the Kardashian media circus with Travis. It was on another level, and I didn’t know how to deal. I was sad. And I just missed my parents so much.”

No one knows the real Shanna: It’s only in recent months that Moakler feels more like herself again. “I don’t think anyone has a clue about who I am,” she says, cracking a smile as she acknowledges she began taking Mounjaro, an FDA-approved drug approved to treat Type 2 diabetes that many use off-label for weight loss.

She’s sick of talking about the Kardashians: “I’m more than just the ex-wife of famous men. I was Miss USA at 19. I’m smart. Every part I’ve ever got in any movie, or every show I hosted or auditioned for, I worked my f—ing ass off to get. I also don’t have to like the f—ing Kardashians, and I’m honestly sick of talking about them. As I stand here today, as a mature woman who’s gone through all that… I do not give a f— what anyone thinks of me anymore. I’m proud of who I am.”

The fallout from her appearance on Bunnie OX’s pod: After she spoke out against her ex on Bunnie XO’s podcast Dumb Blonde in January, Barker ceased all communication, says Moakler. During the podcast, Moakler had called the Kardashians “disgusting,” saying, “I removed myself so that they couldn’t bond over my children hating me” and alleged that when Barker started dating Kardashian, there was some “parental alienation going on there.” At the time, a friend of the couple told PEOPLE: “Travis and Kourtney don’t pay attention to what Shanna’s doing. They’re so happy in life right now.”

She and Travis are no longer speaking: “[W]e don’t speak anymore. I don’t have a relationship with Travis, but I think that’s okay. I don’t feel like it’ll be like that forever, but I feel like right now — I think that’s where we are at in our evolution, and maybe in the future, it’ll change.”

Still looking for love: “I love taking care of a man. I want to grow old and make memories with someone. I want to be healed and whole when I find my person. But I still need to work on myself a lot first. I watched my mother and father love each other for 53 years. I totally believe that there are wonderful men out there who can be kind, faithful and communicate, and who are not addicts.”

Her kids have apologized: For Moakler, the most difficult part of the public drama has been the impact on her relationships with her kids. “I’m not a deadbeat mom. I have a very close relationship with my children who are now adults, and I have been present in their lives, except during Covid lockdown,” she says of Landon and Alabama, who previously “liked” a post on Instagram slamming bad moms. “They have both taken back what they said about me and apologized.”

[From People]

Okay, okay, we get it. Shanna doesn’t like the f-cking Kardashians. She’s right, she doesn’t have to like them, but she also doesn’t have to bring them up every time she does an interview. Just talk sh-t about them in private or go on a subreddit and b-tch about them there, where no one knows it’s you. Imagine how much easier her personal life would be if she just sucked it up and either ignored them or kept the peace by playing nice. Her kids are all adults now, she no longer needs to have any contact with Travis. In 2021, Alabama said that her mom “has never been completely in my life.” It’s nice that her kids apologized, but I wonder how much contact they have with her now by choice. Shanna can complain all she wants about the Kardashians, but Kourtney and Travis are the two parents who are most present in their lives.

Low self-esteem really makes women work against their own interests. She could have gone so much farther. She wasted opportunities and good will by being a public shrew instead of focusing on her own opportunities and growth. Bad mouthing her ex’s became her brand. Self inflicted wounds is all I see when I look at Shana Moakler.

Yeah, this is where I am too. Listen, I am no fan or Kardashian apologizer, and even I know that Kourtney’s main ambition in life has always been to be a mother. Maybe just stop talking about her when your daughter with a man who is not Travis is on the record saying Travis is the parent who raised her. Kourtney has embraced all of your children, as a parent, that should be what you want for your kids.

I’m an entirely single parent, and I would kill for a nurturing adult to love and support my son. The more people that love your kids the better, IMO.

A ton of f-bombs helps nothing. Not that I don’t swear, but …

Confidence is quiet; insecurity is loud.

    Not do we.

I strongly believe everyone should unfollow and deplatform the Kardashians and stop buying the stuff they try to shill us at every turn en masse, but even I can admit it seems like Travis and Kourtney stepped up in a huge way to be there in these kids lives. I remember their TV show together. She doesn’t need to be silent but I think a baseline level of respect for Kourtney is the only decent way to behave here, although historically she’s just so messy and blame-y.

She’s really angling to get into a reality show again isn’t she? Keep her name out there connected to the Kardashians and then Celebrity Big Brother will come calling again.

  5. Mika says:

While I think she’s totally entitled to her feelings, I don’t know why she would choose to share them so openly. I agree that a WhatsApp group with a few good friends would have gone a LONG way here.

If I’m honest, I never heard of this woman before this article.

Looking at her eyes, lips, etc. and her bikini pic I couldn’t swear that she WASN’T a Kardashian.

After a certain point, lifting, plumping, inflating, they all look more alike than not.
