Last night the New York Film Critics Awards were held, and George Clooney picked up the “Best Actor” award for Up In The Air. These are one of the few awards ceremonies that are not televised on any cable or network broadcast, although PopEater found some footage of the event. Clooney was charming, so congratulations to him. He also cracks a joke about Mariah Carey’s drunken appearance at an awards ceremony last week: “I am like Mariah Carey f—-d up right now.” Sigh. Anyway, Clooney brought his girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, actress, model, rent-a-date, and the new crotch of Cavalli. They make a handsome couple, especially with her strong jaw and his gray beard, which I actually really like. This look really works for Clooney, in my opinion. I don’t think much of Elisabatta’s outfit though. Don’t go respectable all of a sudden, Elisabetta! You’re not that girl!
More Clooney highlights… he told the NYFC: “I’m the son of a newsman. My father wrote for a paper for 20 years. It’s a very difficult, tricky time for most of you in this room right now, as you well know, not because of the economy necessarily but because of all the other issues. I still like to read the newspaper. I wish you all the best of luck. I’m a fan of what you do, and I hope you continue to get to do it. And I thank you very much.” On the red carpet, OK! Magazine got Clooney to talk about the growing fake-controversy about Clooney being jealous of Robert “Sparkles” Pattinson. Clooney said: “Thank God I don’t have to [compete with Sparkles]…He’s young and handsome and talented.” Aw, Clooney. Don’t feel bad! You have a gray beard and an Italian girl who will do whatever you say!

I saw from other pics elsewhere that Elisabetta looks like she’s wearing a satin pantsuit under her coat. They look good together.

Anyhoo, I think she’s doing really well at fitting in with the popular kids (IE, Rande Gerber & Cindy Crawford, Brange, etc-has to be better than Sarah Larson), but she’s still skanky enoug to tie George up and make him beg. Therefore, she’s going to be around for a while.
She is not that pretty, IMHO.

I agree Clooney looks good with the salt and pepper hair and beard (not Elisabetta). I just like it more when the beard hair isn’t this grown out. It almost looks shaggy here. He rocked this look better @ the VFF in ’07.
