Margot Robbie has just come off one of the biggest professional highs – she developed, produced and starred in Barbie, which became the biggest hit of 2023 and a cultural phenomenon. She also made $50 million or more on the backend (it should have been even more, honestly). She’s in her 30s and she’s been married to her husband Tom Askerley for almost eight years. Basically, it was the perfect time for Margot and Tom to start a family. She’s pregnant!
Margot Robbie is pregnant! Multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE that the Barbie star, 34, and husband Tom Ackerley are expecting their first baby. Representatives for both stars did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
Robbie and Ackerley, also 34, first met in 2013 on the set of the World War II drama Suite Française, where he was an assistant director and she was in front of the camera. They then married in December 2016 during a private ceremony in Australia’s Byron Bay. The two never announced their engagement prior to their wedding.
Robbi and Ackerley were friends first and worked together on the production company LuckyChap on a four-person producing team that also includes Robbie’s childhood friend Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara. The company has produced several films and television series, including I, Tonya, Birds of Prey and Barbie — all of which starred Robbie.
As People says, Tom is her producing partner and for years, he’s been by her side, helping her build LuckyChap into one of the premiere producing teams in Hollywood. I feel like a type-A personality like Margot probably felt like this was the perfect time to get pregnant and “go away” for a little while and take a real maternity leave. She was everywhere for months during the awards season. Now, I’m sure she and Tom are still focused on LuckyChap though – they’ve got a hugely successful track record and I kind of wonder if the next few years will be all about “Margot the producer, working behind the scenes.” Anyway, congrats to them! I’m really happy for them. Tom is a cutie too.

Yeah I can see her becoming more of a producer and stepping back from acting – she’s good at both and has an eye for great scripts/projects. She’s worked non stop since she broke out in Hollywood.
Re: Barbie – she wasn’t supposed to star or even act in the movie, am glad she did as she was a great Barbie and I can’t imagine anyone else playing that role. Amy Schumer would have been terrible.
I agree she’s got a really good eye for projects. But I think she’ll act too. She was always annoyed about the pg questions after she got married. But whilst she’s private she walked out publicly showing so I’m glad she did that as she wanted. She knew it would happen, she did it on her own terms. I admire her a lot for many reasons. She’s really smart and talented.
These photos don’t do him any justice – Tom is pretty cute. I think he was an actor (didn’t love it), then got into directing and producing where he’s more comfortable. He’s been part of all her production movies. I love the fact that they’re a low key mature couple who are weathering fame with so much grace and fun.
