Lenny Kravitz stopped his concert to take a Facetime call from Denzel Washington

Lenny Kravitz is one cool cat (who, as it turns out, likes his Kit Kats cool), and 2024 has been a banner year for him so far. He was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the first time, was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, turned 60 (HOW is that possible?!), and released his 12th studio album, Electric Blue Light. He’s now on the Electric Blue Light Tour, and was playing the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy over the weekend (nice work if you can get it, si?), when he abruptly took a Facetime call… from Denzel Washington! Mamma mia, è pazzo!

Lenny Kravitz stopped one of his concerts so he could take an important phone call!

Over the weekend, the “American Woman” rocker took to Instagram to share the moment he got a call from his friend, Denzel Washington, while performing one of his shows as part of his Blue Electric Light Tour.

“When your brother calls and you’re in the middle of a show. 🎥: @rossss_mia,” the 60-year-old rocker captioned the moment.

In the video, Kravitz walked up to the mic with his phone in his hand, and informs the crowd of the call. “I’m sorry, my big brother just called me up on the phone to say hi,” the “TK412” singer told the audience.

Kravitz walked around the stage, holding up his phone towards the crowd. Just in case anyone was confused with who was on the other side of the call, Kravitz told the concertgoers that it was in fact Washington.

“Y’all know Denzel Washington,” he said as the crowd erupted in screams. Kravitz walked the phone to his camera man to give fans a closer look at the Oscar-winning actor, who was smiling and soaking up the moment.

“Alright brother, I love you, I’ll call you later,” Kravitz told his friend before hanging up.

Kravitz and Washington, 69, have been friends for over three decades. In March, the Training Day actor took the stage to pay tribute to his pal at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

“He’s more than a friend, he’s more than a brother, we’re twins. We just don’t look alike,” Washington quipped about Kravitz. “God has blessed him with an unbelievable talent but even more so, an unbelievable heart.”

I’m gonna be very un-rock & roll and ask: Hey Lenny, what were you doing with your phone out during a set?! How did he even hear it over his band and the crowd? No, I know it’s a cute moment, especially since Lenny shared it with the audience as much as he could by bringing his phone to the camera. A huge pet peeve of mine is phones being out during performances — the youths drive me absolutely batty on this issue! — but a rock concert is a whole other animal. Still, should Lenny end up dialing Denzel when he’s treading the boards as Othello on Broadway next year, and Denzel answers onstage? Well, let’s just say this lady will doth be protesting too much. (Yes, I realize it’s a Hamlet line and not Othello, work with me here.) And JK, JK, I know Denzel would never. Let the brother-love-fest continueth!

    Maybe they planned the moment?

How did I not know this bromance existed!?

      No idea, seriously!

They’ve been photographed doing so many things together over the years, be it sitting courtside at Lakers games, sitting in the front row at NY Fashion Week, back when the D didn’t live in his Adidas tracksuits 24/7 yet. Or spending time with Sidney Poitier when he turned 90.

D and Pauletta were present at Zoë’s first wedding in Paris.

AFAIK their moms, Roxie Roker and Lennis W, were cousins.

To heck with Lenny, give me Denzel. That man is so wickedly talented, wise and sexy. He has been my personal icon of American Man for 30 years.

Many musicians I know use their phones on stage for set lists, rather than a paper copy.

    Go Lenny!

This is just cute. How sweet of them to give the fans a moment to squee over.

Is there anyone hotter than Lenny at any age? Ever?
