Angelina Jolie ‘is by Pax’s side’ as he recovers from his dirt bike accident

On Monday, Pax Jolie was involved in some kind of accident in LA. Pax was driving/riding an electronic bike (basically a dirt bike) and he crashed into a car stopped at a red light. Pax wasn’t wearing a helmet, and the driver he crashed into stopped and called an ambulance. Pax was taken to the hospital and there was a suspicion he had a brain bleed, but TMZ also said that Pax was in stable condition. Well, People Magazine got a health update and a mom update:

Angelina Jolie is by son Pax’s side as he recovers from an accident in Los Angeles. A source says Jolie, 49, is “with him and reported that he’s stable.”

Pax, 20, was reportedly hospitalized after an accident in L.A. on Monday, July 29. According to TMZ, law enforcement sources told the outlet that Pax was not wearing a helmet while riding an e-bike in a heavy-traffic area on Los Feliz Boulevard around 5 p.m. when the accident happened. He reportedly sustained a head injury and hip pain.

The Los Angeles Police Department tells PEOPLE that a man in his early 20s was riding a scooter when an accident was reported at 5:12 p.m. on July 29, and that a severe traffic collision report was completed.

Jolie shares Pax and five other kids with ex Brad Pitt: Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, 16. Reps for Jolie and Pitt did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.

Pretty sure Brad Pitt is in Europe, still filming that dumb F1 movie. Pretty sure Pitt doesn’t care about his adopted kids – he’s made that abundantly clear in the past eight years. But I’m glad Angelina is there and she’s looking after Pax. As I was looking through recent photos of Pax, I was really struck by how often he’s at his mom’s side, helping her, working on her movies, hanging out at the Atelier Jolie in NYC and more. They seem especially close, and I imagine she was really worried. Apparently, Pax’s friends are worried too… worried that he’s hell on wheels.

Pax Jolie-Pitt has been in “multiple” electric bike accidents prior to Monday’s crash, a source exclusively tells Page Six, adding that he almost never wears a helmet.

“His friends are concerned about him,” an insider shares. “He’s being reckless. They’re worried.”

We’re told Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s 20-year-old son has been “consistent” about never wearing a helmet on the vehicle despite his rocky riding history.

A second source close to the matter tells Page Six that the “Maleficent” star is with Pax at the hospital, and he’s in stable condition. Page Six confirmed that Pax was rushed to the hospital earlier this week after sustaining a head injury in a harrowing crash in Los Angeles. It’s unclear when he’ll be discharged from the medical facility.

Yeah, Angelina needs to lay down the law about wearing a helmet. He’s 20 years old so it’s not like she can take away his bike, but she can go Full Guilt-Trip Mom and tearfully badger him about wearing a helmet and make him promise to do so every time he gets on the fakakta bike. Do it, Angelina. She’s probably the only one who could convince him. Well, Angelina or one of Pax’s sisters.

Aren’t there helmet laws? Not sure about e-bikes but if you are riding them in traffic, it sure seems like a helmet would be required.

    • Lauren says:

Not in California from google “Adults 18 and older do not need to wear bicycle helmets at any time in the state of California” it seems to vary from state to state and sometimes County to County.

    • CLOVE says:

Some states don’t have helmet laws, but California does.

      • TikiChica says:

Why would there not be helmet laws in some states? As a non US person, I simply don’t get this.

      • CLOVE says:

@TikiChica, I know it freaked me out a decade ago when I had to go to Oklahoma for a meeting and saw people riding motorcycles without helmets. I was in a state of shock, and I guess that is because I live where it’s required.

I agree; it makes NO sense.

        @ Clover

There are no helmet laws in California for regular bicycles and Class 1 or Class 2 e-bike if you are over 18 . If you are under 18 you must wear a helmet and Class 3 e-bike, you must wear a helmet regardless of age.

Maybe you’re confusing it with the motorcycle helmet laws.

  2. CLOVE says:

I hope Pax has a speedy recovery and starts wearing a helmet to be safe! They are all close to Jolie and want to protect her.
Of course, we know that Pitt is in Europe, and as Kaiser said, Pitt doesn’t care because Pax is adopted. What a horrible person!

  3. Jasper says:

I’m hoping he recovers quickly, and as Kaiser said, that Angelina or one of his siblings guilt him into wearing a helmet in the future. Head injuries are NOT to be played with.

  4. Andrea says:

I’m a cyclist in California who doesn’t have a car. I agree Pax should be wearing a helmet but the data on helmets is somewhat equivocal — people wear them when they perceive cycling as dangerous, but if cyclists are sharing the road with cars, drivers then take more risks because they perceive that helmets make the cyclists safer. All that said, I always wear a helmet here and I hope Pax having some kind of head injury (a serious collision report suggests he was transported from the scene) gives him a wake up call. LA has okay bike infrastructure but it’s not terribly separated from car traffic, as this shows.

  5. Dorianne says:

I believe it was Pax who left the lovely “world class *sshole” post for his dad. He may be the sensitive child who took the plane incident and his parents’ divorce the hardest. He seems especially close with his mom, and to see the abuse his dad dumps on her in the courts and media might be weighing on him and making him a bit reckless. I’m sure Angelina is aware of this and doing her best.

  6. Button says:

Daddy dearest Brad Pitt once again using his misogynistic daily fail to attack Angelina Jolie by calling her a bad parent, actually acusing her of 20 year old Pax accident without helmet, and .of course defaming her with parental alienation slurs because 6 kids won’t talk to him. Instead of going to his sons bedside I’m hospital Pitt remained quite until now to attack .. utterly deplorable behaviour by Brad Pitt

  7. 80sMercedes says:

There are some interesting comments on social media about him being a literal terror in that area, pulling out in front of people, weaving through traffic – he’s well-known for being that guy on the bike. People didn’t even realize that “that guy on the bike” was Pax Jolie-Pitt. Maybe Mom needs to have a broader talk than just helmet laws.

    • Jais says:

Maybe some of those social commenters calling him a terror are bad faith actors. I don’t trust any social media adjacent to Brad Pitt. Hopefully he’s not a “terror,” but if he is, hopefully this accident will give him some perspective and get him in a helmet.

      • 80sMercedes says:

These people aren’t “adjacent to Brad Pitt”. They’re normal people who live in LA and go about their business. As I said, they didn’t even know that the guy everyone complains about *is* Pax JP.

Riding e-bikes without helmets is just stupid, especially in rush-hour traffic. Mama could certainly restrict spending money & privileges until the kid wises up.
I was a passenger in a car when a bare-headed motorcyclist rear-ended us at fairly high speed. He was seriously injured & my friend who was driving remains traumatized even though she could have done nothing ton prevent the collision.
