The Sussexes accepted an invitation to go on a royal tour of Colombia

OMG! Remember how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s quasi-royal tour of Nigeria was a huge success? Remember how their Archewell team worked perfectly with the Nigerian government to highlight veterans’ issues and local charities, all while highlighting Nigeria’s investment in the Invictus community? Well, as we saw in real time, the Nigerian tour was the blueprint for the Sussexes and for other countries who want that Sussex sparkle. Now Colombia has made plans for the Sussexes to go on a tour! South American Sussex Tour!!

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are headed to Colombia! “As the Vice President of Colombia and Minister of Equality and Equity, I am pleased to announce that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have kindly accepted my invitation to visit our beautiful country,” the Vice President of Colombia, Francia Márquez, said in a statement this morning.

During their time in Colombia, Harry and Meghan will visit Bogotá, Cartagena, and Cali with Márquez. “In these vibrant locations, they will have the exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress,” she wrote. “In addition to these meaningful interactions, The Duke and Duchess will experience the rich heritage of Colombia.”

While no specific date has been shared yet, Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit will come before the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, which will be held in Colombia this November. Therefore, their trip could take place anytime in the next three months.

Per Márquez, “The Archewell Foundation, founded by The Duke and Duchess, is renowned for its global leadership in fostering a safer online environment. The forthcoming conference will unveil a comprehensive framework for creating safer physical and digital spaces, tackling issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the mental health impacts of these threats. It will offer actionable solutions and commitments for countries around the world. During their visit, The Duke and Duchess, as well as The Archewell Foundation, will engage in several activities related to this important topic.”

She concluded, “We are confident that their visit will further illuminate Colombia’s role as a beacon of culture and innovation.”

[From Town & Country]

No, I love this so much. It’s not even specifically related to Invictus. Colombia just saw the Nigerian tour and said “we should invite them and get all of that international media coverage too.” I assume that Colombia will pick up the security costs, just as Nigeria did, and the government will largely set the agenda, with input from the Archewell team. I cannot wait!!!

Colombia gets a bad rap. My brother spends months there and it’s a beautiful and diverse country just like America is. There are major cities, and small towns.

    • Jan90067 says:

I read it will be 3 days, in mid August. Can’t wait to see the fashion choices, too!

    • DK says:

@Ameerah, that’s part (the big part, I guess!) of why I love this so much: Harry and Meghan out there, breaking down stereotypes of these countries and showing the amazing aspects that so often go overlooked by the rest of the world. Hooray!

(Of course you know the British media will have some racist stuff to say about this, unfortunately, but hopefully the rest of the world will just see the glorious settings and cool stuff/activities /experiences /locales /cultural aspects etc the Colombians will show to H&M!)

      • Jasper says:

And the more the British media act like deranged exes, the more they prove Harry and Meghan right for leaving. They’re the ones making their country look bad on a global scale and they’re too committed to bigotry to see it.

    • Lalala says:

@Ameerah Totally agree. My husband travels there frequently for business. He loves it.

    • Shai says:

My godmother went on a cruise there and said it was beautiful.

    • StillDouchesOfCambridge says:

Columbia has changed. So many people are going and loving it. And I love this idea of tour in south america already, and can already feel the rage volcano rumbling under salt island! Wait to see how they will depict Colombia! LOL the losers!!!

      • Becks1 says:

I know this has nothing to do with the Sussexes decision to visit Colombia but I do think its worth pointing out that neither William nor Kate have visited a South American country in an official capacity. William did a month in the Falklands but thats a little different IMO. And his gap year in Chile doesn’t count.

And I dont think either has visited any african country in an official capacity. William has obviously made several trips to Kenya but I dont think any of those were in an official capacity, and Kate never has.

when you contrast that with H&M’s trips to Morocco, South Africa and then Nigeria this spring, and this upcoming trip – well the difference is striking, isnt it?

  2. Sam says:

    Omg I’m sooooooooooooo excited!!! Can’t wait!! ❤️🥳🥳

    • Advisor2u says:

And the good thing is that she can practise her perfect Catalán (Spanish).

      • Advisor2u says:

        *practice

      • Becks1 says:

Does she speak Catalan? I would have assumed she would have learned castellano in college. I was a spanish major and that’s what we learned.

eta but also castellano is different from what is spoken in some parts of south america.

      • Ace says:

You’re probably confusing Catalan with Castellano which is what Spanish is called in Spain, and I think other Spanish speaking countries, to differentiate it from other languages spoken in Spain like Catalan, Euskera or Galego.

Catalan is spoken in parts of Spain, France, Italy and Andorra but not in Colombia.

      • StarWonderful says:

That is, Castellano. Catalan is an entirely different dialect from Spanish. Spain has many different dialects that are a riot to listen to. : )

    • Janey says:

I know!!!! I also hope the media they select to accompany them on the trip is less lifestyle centric & tabloid adjacent AND instead bring a journalist who focuses their work on digital safety OR as its youth centric bring Teen Vogue – that publication is perfect for both digital safety for children and to do cross cultural youth engagement. Or an independent outlet, during the pandemic I appreciated that M was engaging independent media outlet, I still read 19th News because of them.
I think it’s it’s People again it reduce it to frivolity. Yes people have the reach but anyone who covers it other larger outlet will pull their work.
Also include local journalists- the local journalists from BBC & CNN Africa & Arise brought a more rounded , cultural understanding & respect to the locals and overall local perspective that made the coverage balance.

  3. Kelsey says:

    I. Am. Screaming.

    Long live House Sussex LMFAOOOOO.

    That is all. #ServiceIsUniversal

    • Smart&Messy says:

      My exact reaction. LMFAO indeed.
I guess Harry gave a heads up about this to his father (probably in an unanswered message), hence the What Shall We Do About The Sussexes Summit.

  4. Nanea says:

Colombia is such a beautiful country, even if it’s not particularly safe everywhere, but I am so happy for them.

Cartagena is one of my favorite cities *ever*, although the history is, as with all those countries founded by colonizers, not without its own problems. But if the government looks after them, they will have a great time.

OT, but Hiddles is in Colombia right now, filming Night Manager II, in and around Bogotá.

    • Ameerah M says:

My brother loves Cali! He enjoys Cartagena as well but Cali is his favorite city. He eventually wants to move there permanently.

      • Nanea says:

I like Cali too, and the Valle del Cauca, and Popayán.

But I guess I’m a mermaid at heart, and prefer the coast, no matter where. Hence Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta and everything in between.

    • Proud Mary says:

No country is particularly safe everywhere. Have your heard of a country called the United States of America?

      • Kim says:

I’ve lived in Colombia. It’s an beautiful, wild country. But you’re fooling yourself if you are comparing the level of danger in Colombia to the US. Although sadly I see the us heading in that direction, including the socio economic divide. The unrest in Venezuela definitely hasn’t helped the surrounding areas. It will only get worse as global warming and unrest increases northern migration.

  5. Molly says:

Guess someone needs to interrupt their vacation to come out and wail!

    • wolfmamma says:

Hahaha .. yes! .. I wonder how long it will take?

    • Eurydice says:

Lol, that was my first thought, too!

    • TheFarmer'sWife says:

That purported “what do we do about the Sussexes Summit” just had another line added to the agenda! Queue the British rota to start falling over themselves to assist Chuckles and Peggy in their public need for a hissy fit, wining, stamping their feet, and throwing up over H&M just being H&M.

      • Kristen from MA says:

I picture them like old-time cartoon characters: they turn red, then purple, and steam comes bursting out of their ears. 😀

      • Jais says:

Right? Another agenda item was just added😂

    • Laura D says:

Came on to post exactly the same thing. Once the cushions have been flung around the halls and rooms of KP I imagine Lazarus will rise once again. 😆

    • Barb Mill says:

They will be at the summit at Balmoral on how to deal with the Sussexs while the international press will be reporting about how well the Sussexs have been received.

    • Lorelei says:

Yes, I bet there are a few “pillows” being rage-thrown today

  6. Snuffles says:

Oooh! And Meghan is going to roll up there speaking fluent Spanish too!

  7. Oh_Hey says:

    I love this.

Charles’s whole thing is a rival court in the uk and is just missing the forest for the trees. Everyone else outside of Salt Island is dying for the Sussex’s to come and the left behinds somehow have blinded themselves to the fact that it’s already happened.

    • booboocita says:

At this point, the Sussexes have formed the MAIN royal court, the only royal court in which anyone’s interested, and the leftovers are the rival court.

  8. Not a royal tour but a Sussex tour which is so much better! Hope they will be safe in Colombia. I’m sure if Harry is going he deems it safe. Let the pearl clutching begin on salt isle. How dare he accept an invitation while…… you can fill in the reason.

    • The Duchess says:

Yes! Harry & Meghan are going to show how it’s done the Sussex way. I’ve heard Colombia is a beautiful nation and I cannot wait to see this fact highlighted.

  9. Dee(2) says:

Oh boy, just when they were starving for something to blow their tops over during silly season. British media over the top reactions aside, this is great news for Archewell. I’m glad that they are being taken seriously in a philanthropic space by governments and organizations and being invited to do these things because their goals are very admirable, and I hope more exposure will get them more backers. And honestly this is the type of stuff heads of organizations do all the time, it’s just that other heads of organizations don’t have an entire media apparatus making every single thing they do front page news for weeks on end. Also Colombia is a beautiful country . I’ve had the pleasure of going several times for my job I hope that they get some time to sightsee.

  10. Cel2495 says:

I love Colombia ! Is beautiful, the people are wonderful and the food delicious. They will do a great job highlighting this beautiful country. I love love Cartagena by the way! So exciting !

  11. BlueNailsBetty says:

This is a business trip, not a royal tour.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

The royals and their media sycophants will claim that this is a “royal tour” and the Sussexes are a rival royal court. I, for one, will enjoy all their seething. They really should have thought of this before they ran them out.

  12. Amy Bee says:

The trip may not be related to Invictus but I suspect that Harry will meet the Invictus team there.

  13. aquarius64 says:

Wonderful Sussex news!! Looking forward to the tour. The BM and the BRF are steaming over this. Columbia is not a Commonwealth country so the UK government can’t do spit. The BM well be mad for being iced out of the coverage, so it will denigrate Columbia as a third world nation. The BRF will be mad the Sussexes will be on a global stage and William’s Earthshot visit to NYC and C and C’s Australian tour will be overshadowed.

  14. Lexistential says:

    YES! SO EXCITED FOR THEM!

I love that governments are openly inviting them, covering security, and collaborating on conferences and engagements. This is actual work that cannot be copied by photo op. (And the BM is going to have an epic hissy fit.)

    • Anne says:

+1 And I love that the VP’s announcement makes it clear that she INVITED them, so the RR can’t insinuate (well, of course they’ll try) that H&M are barging into other countries and and putting the spotlight on themselves, which they tried to do on the Nigeria trip.

  15. sevenblue says:

That is so beautiful. Other countries are following the real work H&M are doing and want to be a part of it. Their visit has a purpose. So happy for them. This also shows how professional and smart other countries are. They are using the PR attention they are gonna get with this visit. Unlike UK and their previous hateful Tory government, they understand the job.

  16. Jais says:

Aw Colombia! I worked in Bogota for a year once but that was long time ago. This is exciting!
    💛💙❤️

  17. CatLady says:

A winter ago, my friends were invited by their Colombian/Canadian friend, a retired teacher like they are, to spend a vacation in Columbia. They are English/French Canadians and do not speak Spanish. However, they had a wonderful time there. The people were warm and welcoming and they had zero security issues or any problems. Columbia has come a long way since the 1980s. The bad rap these days is undeserved as long as you behave and treat Bogotá like you would treat any large city anywhere. Also they spent most of their time on the coast and in the mountains, away from major cities.

  18. Hypocrisy says:

Absolutely gorgeous country, I can’t wait to see Meghan speaking in Spanish I’m really excited for that. I’m glad it will highlight online safety, because it is a global problem and no one is safe from a hateful bot attack with misinformation. I love watching them in action, they just shine.✨

  19. Eurydice says:

It’s so funny. Charles is so fixated on preventing a rival court in his realm that he forgot there’s the rest of the world out there.

  20. Becks1 says:

woohoo!!! how exciting!! I can only imagine how amazing some of these events will be. I haven’t been to Colombia but I have a lot of friends who have and they all RAVE about how gorgeous it is, the food, the culture, etc.

  21. s808 says:

How exciting for the H,M and the whole Archewell team! I’m sure the IG team there will get a visit too!

  22. aquarius64 says:

The date has been set: August 15 – 18. Four days after the Olympics end.

    • Jais says:

Okay! From Olympics entertainment to Sussex entertainment! Happy august! My birthday month is looking good 😊

    • Hypocrisy says:

A birthday gift for me🤗🥳 it will be wonderful to have something to focus on after the Olympics to avoid the election coverage. I will say this I believe Meghans neutral color choices are her “safe space” when she is going to be in public. So I expect she will wear her rainbow of neutrals with a random outfit that is colorful. I hope 🤞🏼 we can give her a break on that😉🥰

    • Nanea says:

Have we found out the date of the S̶a̶n̶d̶r̶i̶n̶g̶h̶a̶m̶ Balmoral summit (what to do with the Sussexes) yet?

The Sussexes show they couldn’t care less about the salty, lazy, unintelligent, grifting Left-Behinds while *doing their own thing*.

And the whole world is watching!

      So funny.

  23. Roseberry says:

Harpers Bazaar is saying in their online news feed that it’s gonna be 15th – 18th August. You know the Sussexes, never announce anything until it’s fully fixed !

  24. Saucy&Sassy says:

“The forthcoming conference will unveil a comprehensive framework for creating safer physical and digital spaces, tackling issues such as cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the mental health impacts of these threats. It will offer actionable solutions and commitments for countries around the world.”

This area has always been a concern of H&M and Archewell has been involved with this from the start–or close to the beginning. What I like about the Sussexes being there is that it brings exposure to the Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children. I don’t know how many people were aware of this, but there will be more and more as the time passes until November.

I think this is a very strategic invitation. It brings the Conference global attention and Columbia gets to showcase their Country. What a great way to show people what they offer if you choose to vacation there.

I find it amusing, Kaiser, that you used the word royal. Of course, the brf will be upset that the Sussexes are going on a ‘royal’ tour. They will do anything to tie themselves to the Sussex star.

  25. maisie says:

Meghan’s Spanish is pretty good too.

I visited Colombia and found it a bit hard because they speak as fast as Cubans do, but it’s closer to the form spoken in Spain than most Latin forms. So I’m betting she will practice a bit and give some nice speeches.

    • Cali says:

Meghan interned at the US embassy in Argentina. I’m expecting her Spanish will be fluent and, as you suggest, she will make some great speeches. This is very petty of me but seeing Meghan’s proficiency in a foreign language on a world stage will yet again point out the deficiencies of the Wales.
This should be a great trip for Harry and Meghan. Creating safer spaces for children is something that they have a great interest in and I look forward to being educated on the work that Columbia.

    • Magdalena says:

An actual Spanish person who was living at the retirement home which Meghan visited when she was living in the UK said that Meghan spoke perfect Spanish: “perfect Castillian, no accent at all” when that royal reporter tried to get a bad soundbite against her. Her brother-in-law Nacho has also said that she is fluent. Not only has she interned at the embassy in Argentina, I believe she has also spent some time in Spain? And clearly continued to work at maintaining her skills in the language, which is admirable.

  26. QuiteContrary says:

Cue the rota whining about how Meghan won’t visit England because of security issues, but will go to scary Colombia. Those idiots will fail to understand that the Colombian government is going to assure the Sussexes’ safety in their country — unlike England.

I cannot wait. Meghan speaking Spanish and dazzling in another country: joy!!

    • Amy Bee says:

I’ve just seen a tweet by the GB News royal correspondent saying exactly that.

    • Jks says:

They are going to absolutely LOVE Meghan! When she speaks in Spanish, I think the whole of South America is going to fawn over her and the British tabloids are going to cry endlessly about her popularity and her language skills.

It warms my heart that even in Colombia, they are paying attention to Harry and Meghan. The whole world, in fact, knows about the toxic British media.

    • Proud Mary says:

I don’t recall any Columbians being jailed for threatening the lives of the Sussexes AND their babies. But maybe I’m missing something. And I’m also missing something else: No Columbian journo have called for people to throw feces at Meghan; for Archie to be dangled over a balcony, or for the Sussexes to be thrown from said balcony, also.

  27. Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

While the Nigerian tour was more Invictus related, I’m hoping that this tour will highlight causes dear to Meghan such as women’s rights and empowerment for girls. I would love to hear her give another of her powerful and inspiring speeches!!!

    • Barb Mill says:

I suspect it will highlight the new program they that will be highlighted on CBS Morning show this Sunday with Jane Pauley.

  28. Beverley says:

Someone in the House of Windsor is having a bad day today.
Well, they better get used to it. A bad two weeks are on the way. And then the successful tour, and then two to three more weeks of glowing coverage. Yes indeed, the Pale, Stale Leftovers are going to have a miserable month.

I love this for them. 😍

  29. Laura D says:

Just a thought I wonder if the Columbia visit and the CBS interview (Sunday) will be on the agenda at the Balmoral Summit “What to do about the Sussexes”? 😆 😆 😆

What should be on their agenda is why countries like Columbia and Nigeria are deemed much safer for the Sussexes to visit, than the UK. The issue of security is becoming more and more embarrassing to the BRF and RAVAC.

    • Jais says:

I’m imagining “how do you solve a problem like Maria” but instead it’s “how do solves a problem like the Sussexes” and set in the Scottish highlands rather than the Swiss alps.

  30. Amy Bee says:

Harry and Meghan are just following in the footsteps of Diana. She was still getting invited to visit places after she left the Royal Family

    • Debbie says:

I wonder if the Windsors had these recurring stories about what to do about “the Diana problem” after the divorce? Did they keep trying to dim her shine and stop her work too?

  31. Chichi says:

I think they need better advisors. Colombia is a political pressure cooker, there is only downside to this visit.

    • sevenblue says:

They are going with an agenda: fostering a safer online environment and mental health. It isn’t a political visit. I am sure H&M with extensive experience in international diplomacy know what they are doing.

      • Chichi says:

They were invited by the vice president. It may not be political for them but it will be political for everyone else in the region. As I said political pressure cooker.

      • sevenblue says:

@Chichi, yes, it is “Vice President of Colombia and Minister of Equality and Equity”. People who do philanthropic work meet with country leaders all the time. That doesn’t make it political in itself. Their agenda is apolitical. I am sure they are not gonna make any political statement there about or against current government. It isn’t the first time they are doing international visit. I don’t get why you are worried they are gonna do something wrong this time.

    • Jaded says:

@Chichi — almost every country on this planet is dealing with terrible political unrest, drug trafficking and criminals for politicians. America is a prime example. I’m sure you thought Nigeria was a similar situation, but look at the goodwill, attention, uptick in tourism and positive coverage it received as a result. You don’t ignore countries with problematic histories or current unrest, you shine a light on it, you accept it for all its foibles and try to improve it for its citizens.

  32. Elisabeth says:

I don’t know about Columbia but I know that Harry is great for africa. He could do so much there. I wish he would go back to his roots, his first instincts. He has so much potential. He hasn’t even tapped into it yet. For me, that is the way forward for him….

    • Magdalena says:

Oh dear- so the male half of this GLOBAL couple should take his black wife and “go back to Africa” because “that is the way forward for HIM”? What on earth? Your whole statement seems to describe him as a single man, without a wife and children and a home and jobs and employees in the United States. Perhaps you ought to read his book and look at things through HIS eyes, listen to his own words, and attempt to foster some understanding about who he is as a person and the choices he has made for himself and -yes- his family: his wife and two children?

  33. Monc says:

I’m Colombian-America n (& Ecudaorian too) … I have a house in the mountains and my first trip there I was blown away by the beauty… I kept saying “oh my G-d!” at every stop. So much so that my cousin who lives there asked me “que sgnifica Oh my G-d?” (What does that mean?) and when I told her she laughed so hard.. she said you keep repeating it…

It’s like the most beautiful tropical garden … lush mountains … amazing treat for the senses.

I hope they enjoy and the food!…Yum yum yum! !

  34. Jilliebean says:

How is this considered a “royal” tour? The headline is BS…. They stepped away from the crown and the BRF pinheads so why is this called a royal tour?

  35. Jaded says:

I think it’s the perfect country and perfect time for them to tour Colombia. Although the drug cartels that controlled Colombia in the 80s and 90s have mostly relocated to Mexico, there has been a shift in the last few years back into Colombia and an increasing war between competing cartels that, if left unchecked, could escalate into something more serious. The star power and focus on such great organizations will really highlight the country and its appeal to a wider base. I bet there’s going to be a noticeable rise in tourism after the Sussex visit, and an increased focus on reining in the drug trafficking.

  36. wolfmamma says:

The Brits are already screaming about “ the faux tour” to a drug country. No doubt Willie hit the speed dial the second he saw the news …. right after he threw things around the room

He and Trump / Vance are similar creatures – no?

  37. JJ says:

This is amazing!!! I love this! Oh, the meltdowns that will ensue.

  38. MikeB says:

The UK media will keep on referring to it as a royal tour. It has nothing to do with the Royal Family or the British government. They have been invited to visit as private citizens and they will visit as private citizens.

  39. Anonymous says:

I don’t know where these posters get the idea that the brits are bigots not true I been there, have man y rit friends, Look at British films from early on they had blacks in leading roles of all types of person long before the USA.

    • Krista says:

You can’t be prejudice if you have black friends, right? 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    • Jaded says:

Not true. Very few blacks broke through the colour barrier in England, only Sidney Poitier (To Sir With Love) and Brock Peters (The L-Shaped Room) come to mind. The US had Hattie McDaniel, Paul Robeson, Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Harry Belafonte, Ethel Waters, Butterfly McQueen, Eartha Kitt, Sidney Poitier and many many more. The Duchess of Sussex was chased out of England because of bigotry, even her in-laws were concerned about the colour of her unborn son’s skin. I’ve been to England many times and the racism is real.

      • Debbie says:

With respect to your well-made point, @Jaded, Sidney Poitier made To Sir With Love in England long after he had achieved fame and stardom in the U.S., the same with Brock Peters who was in To Kill a Mockingbird and Carmen Jones, etc. before appearing in the L-Shaped Room, I think.

  40. Proud Mary says:

I’ve had such an awful day. I really needed a good scream-out-with-joy laugh. I actually did think of South American, but more along the lines of Argentina or Peru. How’s that Balmoral “How do deal with the Sussexes Summit” going?

  41. Krista says:

It’s not a Royal tour, they were invited as humanitarians.

  42. Kkat says:

lol look at the influx of new posters we have, all trying to push an agenda

The UK is very racist, it’s just a different flavor than what we have in the US.
With a extra helping of classism thrown in to spice it up.
I have a bunch of relatives from England

    H and M are California royals, so it’s a royal tour 😻👑👸🤴

    • Mary S says:

      @KKAT Love t your comment.!

    • AC says:

Agree. As much as the US has their problems with racism, the UK is waaay more racist than the US. The US for the most part at least doesn’t hide it, the UK denies it completely 🙄 which is even worse.

  43. Stef says:

Love this for them and Colombia! They’re thriving and I’m here for it.

An amazing opportunity would be to meet with Shakira’s Colombian foundation to build schools across the country – Pies Descalzos. The pro.otion from all parties would be outstanding.

  44. Feebee says:

Straight up had a great laugh at this.

The Sussexes are running rings around the BRF right now. This tiny Archewell organisation schooling the behemoth Monarchy.

  45. Vixxo says:

We now know it’s 15 to 18 August. Colombian Squaddies you’re up.
