Nancy Pelosi on Pres. Biden’s fury with her: ‘He knows that I love him very much’

Nancy Pelosi has written a book called The Art of Power. She gave her first TV interview in months to promote the book, to CBS Sunday Morning. The interview starts off with a conversation about the horrendous assault on her husband, Paul Pelosi, by one of Donald Trump’s supporters. That guy hit Paul Pelosi with a hammer and Trump and his people still mock the whole incident.

The biggest headlines from the interview are not about her husband though. This is Pelosi’s first interview since she was part of the plot to remove President Biden as the nominee. Don’t bring that ends-justify-the-means sh-t in here – Pelosi not only wanted Biden to drop out of the presidential race and disenfranchise millions of primary voters, she wanted to have an open “mini-primary” and a contested Democratic convention at this late stage of the election cycle. The “coup plotters” never planned on being outsmarted by President Biden, who folded his endorsement of Kamala Harris into his withdrawal from the race. Pelosi understood that she was outmaneuvered by Biden though, and now she’s pretending that this current surge of Democratic support for Harris was always what she wanted.

When asked about the reports that President Biden is still “furious” with her, Pelosi said: “Well, he knows that I love him very much.” She also claims: “No, I wasn’t the leader of any pressure in this party. Let me say things that I didn’t do: I didn’t call one person. I did not call one person. I could always say to him, ‘I never called anybody.’”

Here’s the thing… even if you believe that the ends justify the means, that Pelosi did what she needed to do in the exact way she needed to do it, there are many Democrats who strongly disagree. There are many Democrats who are thrilled to support Kamala Harris, but we’re also biding our time to get some accountability from Pelosi and the other ratf–kers. You can say Pelosi did what she needed to do, but to take down a sitting president and to publicly humiliate him without any kind of plan for what comes next, Pelosi had to know that it was likely one of her final acts as a politician too.

Now, the best part of the interview is Pelosi laughing her ass off about Trump selecting JD Vance as his running mate.

The Republiscums are already going extremely low against our VP: the nastiest, vilest trash is being thrown at her about her intelligence, integrity, background, husband, etc,…Elon Musk has been altering what she’s said and is tweeting the doctored versions!

What any Democrat has said or done, as long as they are now doing what they can to get VP Harris and down-ballot Democrats elected, I am fine with forgiveness. We need unity and enthusiasm and engagement; we don’t need recriminations. That doesn’t encourage votes.

    • girl_ninja says:

Agree 100%. And it’s on us to be and stay united. The press is complicit in trying to throw this election. We have to stay focused.

      • MichaelaCat says:

        I’m in complete agreement.

Biden had many chances but unfortunately he kept playing into the hands of the Republicans. I think he got a really soft treatment for how badly things were going campaign-wise. He wasn’t attacked en masse but something had to be done.

And now things are going much much better campaign-wise.

None of this means Biden wasn’t a good president but he had his weak points that the Repiblicans exploited too well

      • Teddy says:

Also agree. Biden was a visibly weakened candidate. Trump, a would-be dictator also in serious decline, has become a proxy for the worst of the radical right wing. I’m sorry for Grandpa Joe, whose term as president achieved some great things. But the very survival of our democracy is at stake.

      • B says:

Vote Blue all up and down the ballot. The Dems have to make sure they continue to stand together. How they brutally exposed their feelings about Biden in the media will not be forgotten when their time comes for re-election. For now we vote BLUE TO TAKE BOTH HOUSES.
The Dems could have handled Biden’s situation differently instead they look like losers in the media. None of this should have played out in the media like going on the every network that bash Biden / Harris or writing article in the newspapers.

When you go about things in a dirty way KARMA FINDS IT WAY BACK TO YOU.

I for one will remember who they are when the time comes.

    • SIde Eye says:

I could not agree more. And I love President Biden. He will go down in history as one of the great presidents who loved this country and did this selfless act which is to step aside so that we have a chance at beating Agent Orange.

Biden wasn’t going to win against Trump. The media is complicit (you’re absolutely right Girl Ninja) and the headlines were going to continue to be all about Biden’s cognitive decline as opposed to Trump is a felon, a sex predator, is unfit for the office, Trump was affiliated with Epstein, sold national secrets, attacked his own Capitol, tried to have his VP assassinated, etc. I was having panic attacks because I knew Biden would lose. The media wants this felon to be the president. Maybe if the debate had gone better, things would be different. But we are where we are.

History will look at this very differently than we do now in 2024. I hate that it was done, but it did have to be done. I am in the whatever we have to do to stop fascism camp. All of a sudden Trump became the too old and out of touch one. Trump is on his back heels. He’s the one reeling and he has no answer – his racist trash can behavior isn’t sitting well with moderates. This ain’t 2016 no more. Black women are Trump’s Kryptonite. Yes it could have descended into chaos, but President Biden was smart enough to negotiate the terms so we don’t descend into Susan Sarandon dumbf**ckery. Everyone came together. Disaster averted. We have a kick ass candidate. I am behind her. I was behind Biden and now I’m with her.

Now let’s go kick some nazi ass.

    • Lynne says:

Absolutely agree and we need to be strongly United at this point

  2. Neners says:

There is a time to dissect what went down with the Biden candidacy ouster. It’s not right now.

    • Berkeleyfarm says:

      I agree with this.

I mean, if the MSM doesn’t want to talk about how their cash cow Trump has visibly declined, and they want something dramatic, RFK Jr is right there.

    • Megan says:

Democrats will never come for Pelosi. Thinking so is a complete fantasy.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Megan, I wonder if you’re right. She’s older than Biden. The age issue isn’t going away for a number of people in the House and Senate. I don’t think she’s immune.

      • Robert Phillips says:

They will come for her with term limits. And how can she vote against it. If it was good enough for Biden. Then the rest should follow his example.

      • Megan says:

@Robert Phillips The idea that congress is going to vote to limit the number of terms they can serve is preposterous. Not one of them, on either side, would ever agree to surrender power until they are good and ready.

    • Lucy2 says:

I completely agree. Now is not a time for inviting. It is a time for unity and strength moving forward. Let’s get past this election crisis before we resume kicking ourselves in the teeth for once.

    • Dee says:

Agreed. Worry about this after November 5th.

  3. wolfmamma says:

Pelosi, Obama et al … I lost all respect for you and any belief that you cared about any of us. Silly me – somehow I thought you were different from the Repugnants.

Joe though outed you all quite neatly. I’m so happy for him that his Light will shine in history now.

Don’t care what history does for any of you.

    • Julie says:

I’d add Stephen King, Rob Reiner, and George Clooney.

White men who Project 2025 won’t touch, decided to rob a man who sacrifices all for country his dignity, and possibly divide the party.

    • Tate says:

I will never understand why any of them thought a mini primary would be a good idea. In my mind it would have resulted in a split party that resulted in a trump win. Glad our President was a few steps ahead of them and we quickly rallied behind VP Harris.

      • Smart&Messy says:

Did I miss something? How do we know for sure that all these people wanted a “mini primary”, only Biden folded their plan by endorsing Kamala? Do we know that Pelosi and others didn’t want him to endorse her? I haven’t seen this theory anywhere else, and it’s absolutely possible that things went down like that, but some commenters here treat it like facts.

      • orangeowl18 says:

I agree with Smart&Messy that we don’t know for sure that people wanted a mini-primary and only a mini-primary. It was one of basically two possible scenarios post Biden dropping out and no one could possibly know what was the better option. Clearly people are fine with the one that played out since everyone lined up so quickly to support Harris.

    • Megan says:

A great president also needs to be a great campaigner who can effectively communicate the party’s message. Unfortunately, Biden can longer do the second piece. Saving us from the tyranny of Trump and Project 2025 is paramount above all else. Biden knows that, which is why he stepped down.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

wolfmamma, I question whether this had to be made public. If the Democrats were so concerned about not getting the money they need, it could have been done behind the scenes. The politicians who came out publically about Biden needing to step down would have phones him instead. The pressure would have been piling on because the donors made it clear that they wouldn’t donate until he did step down.

It wasn’t very well thought out. They angered voters, which doesn’t sound very intuitive. AOC in her video made it pretty clear that although they wanted Biden out (and Harris out, too) they didn’t have a plan. That sounds like an open free-for-all convention. Fortunately, Biden outmaneuvered them. I think an open free-for-all convention would have been truly bad for the Party.

  4. Seraphina says:

In complete agreement with @ML and @Neners.
The time for playing nice is gone. There is too much at stake and we all know it. The clock was ticking and the Dems had to act. They say politics is a dirty business for good reason.

  5. Brassy Rebel says:

I’m just glad everything turned out as it did. I do think there would have been more of a move for other candidates if Biden had bowed out sooner. It was way too late for anyone else to get organized.

  6. I won’t forget what she did and I’m sure there are others who are the same. I think she needs to look at her old self in the mirror and reconsider running again. Maybe the choice should be taken from her.

  7. Loopdeloop says:

I agree with Neners. The need to defeat trump and protect democracy is critical. It would have been great if Biden was kept on but he is looking and sounding too frail for the voting masses. Kamala’s ascendancy in this race gives the voters a hope that likely encourages voter turnout . Trump is too dangerous and we can’t afford a 2nd win since he is likely to damage all the typical protocols thats ensured election integrity.

    • Imara219 says:

Kamala new position re-energized the party and campaign. Dems are actually hyped again instead of mumbling pitiful lukewarm support. We can sit here and be mad that the ppl with Power made hard choices that actually helped us or stew. 🤷🏾‍♀️ It’s giving Bernie Bros 2016.

  8. KC says:

Look, I worked in Democratic/Progressive electoral and union campaigns for nearly 20 years. I loved Joe Biden so much I had a life-sized cutout of him in my office. He had no business running for office in 2020 and I was pissed about it. Basically any Democrat was likely to (barely) beat Trump in 2020. What he did do by running in 2020, was keep Sherrod Brown out of the race or some other younger, better candidate who could have been in a stronger position to run for a second term. Joe Biden then also f*ucked the party by not setting up someone to run for his second term.

A month ago I was in absolute despair because I thought it was too late to fix the absolute disaster of a mess a well-meaning Joe Biden got us into. And having worked in and adjacent to the Democratic Party for as long as I did, I didn’t think anyone in the party had the guts to fix the situation. I don’t know who did it or how, but seriously thank God they got Joe Biden to step down. I think he handled it masterfully, as did Kamala Harris and I feel far less despair now.

But let’s be clear. We didn’t get to choose a candidate because of Joe Biden. Not Nancy Pelosi, not George Clooney, not Kamala Harris. I think Joe Biden has done a lot of good for this country and I think he’s been a good President, but his arrogance in thinking he was the only person who could save American democracy could have nearly cost us everything in 2024. It may still. But if y’all are mad you didn’t get to pick the 2024 candidate, the blame lies squarely on Uncle Joe’s shoulders. I’m glad he finally did the right thing, but it was pretty late in the game, and that’s on him.

    • Lala11_7 says:

What Nancy did WAS DESPICABLE… it’s the old “It’s not WHAT YOU DO…BUT HOW YOU DO IT!” & folks saying Joe was arrogant & we should have been able to “PICK” someone ELSE? That’s a LOT of 😡…the ONLY REASON BIDEN DUG IN HIS HEELS IS BECAUSE NANCY ET AL WERE TRYING TO NEGATE THE PERSON WHO WAS ALREADY CHOOSEN TO REPLACE HIM AND JOE BIDEN WOULD NOT LET THEM DO THAT BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATIC BASE & DEM VOTERS 💙 HAD HIS BACK WHICH GAVE HIM THE LEVERAGE TO DO WHAT HE WAS ALWAYS GOING TO DO!

So.. regarding Nancy? Some of my BIGGEST betrayals in life has come from loved ones😪 so I’ll get over it …she’s PERMANENTLY soiled her MAGNIFICENT record at the very end…so that is on her…EVERYBODY ELSE? I will NEVA FORGIVE OR…FORGET😡

      • Flowerlake says:

All the capital letters don’t help make your point come across.

Biden had been on the back foot from the start of the campaign. There would be too many people not voting because they had started to believe the “frail” narrative.

      • Emme says:

@Flowerlake, utterly agree. I don’t even bother to read anything written in capital letters. Just think, oh it’s a rant so skip a post like that.

    • MrsBanjo says:

      @KC
And yet, Biden was negotiating the Russian hostage release an hour before he made his withdrawal announcement. The man is still working, still kicking ass, still doing his job. So stop this nonsense about how he shouldn’t have even run. He’s the reason that as a country we’re doing so well after Trump’s term.

An open primary 100 days before the election is fucking stupid, especially since it’s typically the VP who follows their previous POTUS in elections and it wasn’t just Biden everyone was voting for in the primaries. It was Biden/HARRIS. Come on, now. Good grief.

      • Emme says:

Was he though, @MrsBanjo, was he really? Or were his White House staff working behind the scenes in his name? And if so, how long have they been doing that to cover his mental decline?

    • Mairzy Doats says:

I’m glad that Biden waited until after Trump picked his running mate.

  9. bisynaptic says:

Is she basically saying, “My fingerprints aren’t on this”?

    • Agnes says:

No, she just said she didn’t “call” anyone. None of those old school politicians trust phone calls, she met people in her office and plotted there.

  10. Back again says:

We are in the fight of our very lives. We can’t afford to let personal feelings affect the bigger picture. We all love Joe. No one is denying that. But the writing was on the wall and the tough decisions made.

Let’s not sow division. We have an election to win.

    • Sigmund says:

Exactly. We saw in 2016 what happened when the Dems were divided.

I’ll be interested in hearing some of the analysis after the election, but right now, I’m not interested in watching or encouraging the Dems to tear ourselves apart (again) just so Trump can win.

  11. NotSoFast says:

Stop already. It was no plot…and if it was? It was justified. I love Joe and am eternally grateful to him. This man is a national treasure. He served all his life. But watch the CNN video of him welcoming the Russian prisoners back home. There is a point where his face blanks and his finger…which once had a reason for pointing….just hangs there extended, and he looks like a lost child.

People who have dealt with dementia recognize this. It does not invalidate anything this intelligent, compassionate man did for our country. It is an acknowledgment of the sad facts of life and aging.

Admit you were wrong and move on. This personal bitterness helps no one.

    • Jayna says:

      Thank you! I agree.

    • Smart&Messy says:

Exactly. And if you want to be mad at someone for undermining Biden’s dignity on the world stage, it should be his aides and family who hid his declining condition and encouraged him to dig in his heels.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

NotSoFast, so what was the reasoning behind getting rid of Harris, too? I believe what AOC said.

      • NotSoFast says:

Show me any credible reporting that demonstrates that getting rid of Harris was a strategy and we can talk. There was legitimate confusion and disarray. This is kinda unprecedented. Did they handle it well? No.
Believe AOC all you like. I have great love for her. But she isn’t an insider here. Personally? I prefer my squad member Ilhan Omar. Just as effective. Less needy.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

NotSoFast, AOC was clear that she was in the room with everyone, and they did not have a plan and they did want Harris out. I can’t imagine she would misrepresent what was going on–she has to work in D.C. and get re-elected. It wouldn’t help her if she misrepresented what was going on.

  12. Rnot says:

The Republicans are angrily calling it a plot and a coup too. They’re using it as evidence that Dems are treacherous and untrustworthy. Stop carrying their water.

Pelosi did the right thing for the country. What’s happened since he dropped out is vindication of just how necessary it was. If Biden’s still furious, then he’s ignoring all that pent up money and energy that he WASN’T able to tap. He wasn’t the right man for the job and he couldn’t recognize that. It’s sad but other people needed to put duty before country.

I emailed my senators after the debate. I said that the stakes were too high to protect one man’s ego, no matter his prior accomplishments. I want Trump defeated. I’m loyal to that goal above all others.

    • Mcmmom says:

100% agree. And this whole “and I’ll seek revenge when the time is right!!!” nonsense just sounds childish.

  13. Kateee says:

Isn’t it just as likely that the Dems who suggested a mini-primary, afraid that millions of people would feel like their primary votes had been cast aside and not show up for the general election, thought a convention primary could restore at least the veneer of democratic selection vs. backroom dealing by political elites to choose a new candidate? Or maybe they thought they needed to “sell” a Harris candidacy with an enthusiastic, public convention? By all accounts, nobody expected this level of engagement for President Kamala Harris.

So, coup, or nerves, or concern for voter disenfranchisement, or simply overthinking the optics–I don’t care right now why they thought a primary was needed for that very brief week where nobody knew what was about to happen. What matters is they fell in line behind our candidate, and quickly, and together, we are going to elect her.

  14. Giddy says:

I love Biden and am grateful to him for all his service to our country. Now I am also grateful to him for engineering his support of Kamala, thus avoiding a fight for the nomination. I echo what others have said, let resentment go and get in there for Kamala! We have got to stop Trump!

  15. Lala11_7 says:

One more thing…as part of The Democratic Base…I can chew gum & paint my nails at the same time 🫤…So I OVERSTAND about a united front right now to get PAST this current crisis that should have NEVA HAPPENED in the 1st place😑…but come the NEXT midterm primary season…well to quote Michael from “The Godfather” …”Today I settled ALL family business”

    • Solace says:

      Agreed Lala!!

And I also remember Pelosi was not supportive of AOC and refused to look into her own husband’s insider trading.
Bug bye old guard, you can kick rocks😁

And I share my birthday with Doug & AOC. I stand with my Virgo and Scorpio sisters here, who are seeing things clearly.

  16. Brassy Rebel says:

The dramatic shift in momentum, enthusiasm, and excitement in just two weeks since President Biden stepped aside should be all the proof anyone needs that there were serious problems with his campaign. I don’t know who convinced him or how they convinced him, but I will forever be grateful that someone did.

    • Jayna says:

      Amen!

    • Chloe says:

I said this below but I think he was waiting for the prisoner exchange deal, which was reportedly finalized the morning that he made his announcement was a big reason why he didn’t step down beforehand. Russia would have left the bargaining table if they knew they were dealing with a lame duck president.

      • Mcmmom says:

While I tend to think that most people are playing checkers when others (their enemies and sometimes friends) think/hope they are playing chess, I like this theory. I still think Biden’s reluctance to step aside was driven by hubris and perhaps a dose of savior complex (Biden really should have been setting up Kamala for success as soon as they took office), it would make me happy if there was some strategy to it.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Brassy Rebel, that’s all because Kamala Harris is running now for President. Although AOC made it clear they wanted to oust her, too, Biden made sure that wouldn’t be possible. The elites thought they could pick their candidate. The fact that Harris was inundated with support, enthusiasm and donations made the elites immaterial. For which I am very grateful. She’s going to be a great President. The elites can suck rocks.

  17. Roan Inish says:

I want to add that I believe his refusal to step down initially was evidence of his dementia because a lucid Joe Biden would have realized the best thing for him to do would be step down.

    • Chloe says:

I disagree about that. That prisoner exchange deal was finalized the morning that Biden made his decision to step down. I think he was waiting for it to be a done deal before announcing anything. Otherwise, what incentive would Russia have for making a deal with him? I think that deal going on in secret behind-the-scenes was a big reason for him to insist that he wasn’t stepping down.

      • Roan Inish says:

Wow @Chloe that’s a good possibility too. I wonder if we’ll ever know exactly what happened.

  18. TN Democrat says:

The Republicans prosper because the Democrats divide themselves into competing factions. The leadership of the Democratic party has failed for decades to polish new talent and squash conspiracy theories. So many Democratic voters have been picked off by Q and other nonsense. Voters that should absolutely reject tRump will continue to vote for Magat candidates until the democratic leadership unifies and figures out how to combat whatever is making people fall into the cult of personality. That will never happen with Pelosi anywhere near party leadership. She is no longer leader of the Democrats in the House and Pelosi’s self-serving appearances on the morning talk shows is doing the Democratic party no favors whatsoever. DEMOCRATS-LET SOMEONE ELSE HAVE THE 🎤 🎙 🎤 PLEASE.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

TN Democrat, I think there are going to be a number of the OLD people in the House and Senate that are going to be replaced with younger politicians. I can’t help but think some of them may not make it to the next elections. Since age has been made such a huge issue for candidates, I think it’ll carry across the board. It appears that there is depth in the Democratic Party of younger candidates.

  19. StarWonderful says:

Well said, Kaiser! I’m with you on this one!

  20. Jayna says:

I really hope she picks Governor Walz for VP. I love this man for VP.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Jayna, I hope so, too. Shapiro is carrying around a couple of things that aren’t wonderful. My straw after paying a settlement to someone for sexual harassment by one of his aides and the issues with Universities during protests re Gaza (maybe I’m wrong but I wonder what the youth think of this?) was when I read that he wanted vouchers for public schools.

  21. Loopdeloop says:

If Biden had lost this election we would have all been angry with dems not having acted with foresight. It was a tough but a good call to have Biden drop and then all rally in support of Kamala.

History will always look favorably that Biden was the patriot that did the right thing for the country. The dems all look good for being unified even at great personal cost.

  22. Newt says:

“You can say Pelosi did what she needed to do, but to take down a sitting president and to publicly humiliate him without any kind of plan for what comes next, Pelosi had to know that it was likely one of her final acts as a politician too.”

She’s done a lot as a FEMALE leader of the Democratic party. No doubt. You can’t dismiss her leadership and work ethic. She’s been a powerhouse.

But I agree. I hope this was one of her final acts as well. I’ll never forgive her and the others in leadership, as well as the media and the outsiders (Clooney and others) for the way they railroaded Biden. Was it needed and necessary? Perhaps. Maybe. But since Biden’s age was a central issue for pushing him out, can we talk about the fact that she’s 3 years OLDER than him? Now, she’s not POTUS, but she’s a powerful woman in the Democratic party and is clearly someone who could be described as a workaholic. Perhaps it’s time to step away for you too, Nanc.

  23. Nikki says:

The phrase “Who needs enemies when you have friends like these” comes to mind. I hope her book fails miserably and she’s constantly asked about her plot to oust President Biden.

  24. fwiw says:

Biden is crafty. Maybe things have played out exactly as he he planned in 2023.

    • Imara219 says:

That’s what I’m saying. I only wonder if he wasn’t pulling out fast enough or by the agreed upon time and that’s why certain things was made public

  25. Imara219 says:

I know this is an unpopular opinion on this site but I’m good with what Pelosi did. This is her. This is how she’s always operated. Can’t sit here and get mad today when we were just championing her yesterdays.

I’m equally perplexed why ppl take AOC video at face value or with heavy weight as if she’s apart of the same inner circle decision making as Pelosi. Nothing concrete has been presented that Pelosi plan was party chaos with a mini-primary (not that I would have been mad at that because I felt a way about the original run primaries) but people are mad off of some unproven claims. 🤷🏾‍♀️

She did what was best for the party not the man and I’m not mad at it or her
