Dolce & Gabbana has a new $100 perfume just for dogs called Fefé

Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have a history of making stupid, reprehensible comments, and then usually doubling-down on them before sometimes apologizing. Which all led to their being canceled. Haha just kidding, as of this year D&G the brand is sitting comfortably at $3.2 billion. And they’ve just released another venture set to add to that wealth: introducing Fefé, the new fragrance for dogs. Named after Dolce’s poodle, Fefé will only set you back $108.13 and features the scents of Ylang Ylang, Musk, and Sandalwood. I don’t know, a $100+ perfume for dogs? Smells rather synthetic to me.

Dolce & Gabbana fragrances are not just for humans anymore as the luxury brand introduced an “alcohol-free scented mist” for dogs.

Inspired by founder Domenico Dolce’s “unconditional love for his loyal dog Fefé,” the fragrance named after the designer’s pup “blends fresh and delicate notes of Ylang Ylang, Musk, and Sandalwood,” according to the brand’s website.

“It’s a tender and embracing fragrance crafted for a playful beauty routine,” Dolce & Gabbana said.

Dog owners can preorder the “Fefé” fragrance mist for 99 euros, which equates to $108.13, and receive it by Aug. 16.

“This fragrance is housed in a sleek green lacquered glass bottle, adorned with a vibrant red metal cap and a precious 24-carat gold-plated paw,” the luxury brand said.

Dolce & Gabbana recommends dog owners spray Fefé on their hands or a brush and then rub or brush their pup’s fur from the middle of the body toward the tail to “give them a moment of scented pampering,” according to the brand’s website.

Fefé can also be applied directly to dogs’ bodies, but the nose area should be avoided.

The fragrance mist is safe pet cosmetics certified, approved by vets, safety tested and “enjoyed by dogs,” according to Dolce & Gabbana.

Despite their crowing about its safety, there are vets (even Italian ones!) saying a perfume on your dog is non bene. Whenever My Girl goes to the groomer she gets an unscented rinse. I just don’t think she wants to be smelling all frou-frou! In fact I know she doesn’t want to, because whenever she’s presented with a field of grass she makes a beeline for the rankest square foot to rub her snout, face, and back in. Clearly D&G did not use any canine consultants! Otherwise Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood would have been replaced with dirt and sh-t (the Musk can stay, if ripe). But the real kicker to me is the packaging. Notice how proudly the press release states, “This fragrance is housed in a sleek green lacquered glass bottle, adorned with a vibrant red metal cap and a precious 24-carat gold-plated paw.” Here’s the thing, dogs aren’t completely color blind, but the makeup of their eyes is such that they can’t see as many colors as humans do. Guess which are the only two colors they CAN’T see? Yup, green and red. Nice bit of designing there, boys. Mamma mia, che stupido…

Dogs do not want perfumes. They have their smell, leave them be. I’ve lived with doggos for most of my life, and if you do not like their natural scent, you don’t have to have a doggo. Of course, sometimes diet and medical issues can become troubling, but that’s why we have vets.

Yes, this seems downright cruel! Dogs use their sense of smell like we use sight. They define their world with smellscapes. Putting a perfume on a dog would ruin that for them and probably be overwhelming. They also have incredibly sensitive skin. What an awful product!

I asked my new puppies their opinion of a doggy perfume and they promised to make their housebreaking last twice as long if I humiliated them in this way.

My dogs favourite perfume is “Eau de fox peepee Nr. 5” and the cheap male perfume that’s left as residue on our local drugstore perfume aisle floor. There must be some pheromones that smell really good to her. When we visit (dogs are allowed) she bends down and rubs her shoulders in it. It makes me laugh every time. So, no “Fefé” for us.

I understand a dog getting a little spritz after the dog groomer. (anyone else a fan of Girl with the Dogs on YouTube/Tik Tok)

But if people use this is a daily perfume for them. Even if it is pet friendly. it seems like a bad idea for their senses.

Rich people, stick to having your dog dyed to look like a tiny lion. Put the perfume bottle down.

OMG! I’ve been seeing this adorable little Pomeranian (I think) that looks like a black & gold little lion. It never occurred to me the little cutie might be dyed! 🤦‍♀️

So I wear Santal 33 by LeLabo which is pretty up there in price in Australia now, about $500 for 100 mls and the place where I buy it from (Mecca Cosmetica) has a wonderful retail person who always tells me about the extra customers she gets and she said by far her favourite is a Melbourne lawyer who buys the exact same fragrance as me but it’s for her dog!
I thought it was just one bonkers person doing this but after seeing this story, clearly there’s a market for it.
    Rich people be crazy!
