Donald Trump on Taylor Swift’s Harris endorsement: ‘I was not a Taylor Swift fan’

For years, Donald Trump has been obsessed with Taylor Swift. He may be a sleaze, he may be a con man, he may be a treasonous insurrectionist subverting democracy, he may be an adjudicated rapist, he may be a racist piece of sh-t, but Trump actually understands fame and social power. He understands that Taylor Swift is one of the biggest celebrities in the world and that her political endorsement has a tremendous amount of weight and cultural cachet. That’s why he was posting AI-generated Taylor Swift endorsements. That’s why he’s been preparing for what he would say if and when Taylor endorsed VP Harris. Now that it’s happened, Trump is doing what millions of men have done before: he’s trying to pit two women against each other. Divide and conquer and never fight uphill, me boys.

Donald Trump was already having a tough night on Tuesday with a debate performance panned by both Democrats and Republicans. And then possibly the most famous person on the planet jumped in to endorse his opponent, Kamala Harris.

“I’m voting for [Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post minutes after the presidential debate ended on Tuesday. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

When asked Wednesday morning about Swift endorsing the Democratic nominee, Trump tried to shake it off, telling Fox News he prefers Swift’s close friend Brittany Mahomes over the singer.

“I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “She’s a big Trump fan. I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time. … You couldn’t possibly endorse Biden. You look at Biden — you couldn’t possibly endorse him. But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay ..a price for it … in the marketplace. But no, I liked Brittany. Brittany got a lot of news last week. She’s a big MAGA fan. That’s the one I like much better than Taylor Swift.”

[From MSNBC]

“She’ll probably pay a price for it … in the marketplace” – well, that was the argument certain Swifties were making about why Taylor couldn’t or shouldn’t endorse anyone, that Taylor is concerned with her bottom line and that Republicans like her music too. Which, fair enough. All the more reason to recognize that Taylor did the right thing, the moral thing, by endorsing Harris. She put the country ahead of her bank account. Although one could argue that if Taylor continued to stay quiet politically AND continued to cozy up to MAGAts, that would have affected her bank account too. As for the stuff about Brittany… it will be absolutely fascinating to watch the Chiefs/WAGs/Mahomes issue play out over the course of the football season. Will there still be drunken hugs between the two women in public? We’ll see.

If he was never a fan why did he post an AI of Taylor telling people to vote for him?

    • aquarius64 says:

Cheeto-linni knows Swift has some pull otherwise he would just keep using her image. Other artists came out against Trump and he didn ‘t put up this much fuss on them.

    • Truthiness says:

Yeah, that ego will never admit to being butthurt about someone he obsessed over. I bet he’s also mad over all the other artists’ cool music he can’t use and Kamala, the black woman, can. He should try Lara Trump’s music!

    • Becks1 says:

If she had come out for Trump, you can bet he would say he was Taylor’s biggest fan ever lol.

(I dont think anyone thought there was any chance of that though, it was silence or Harris.)

  2. Michel says:

Yea because that old guy wearing a red MAGA hat yelling at Fox news is a huge Swiftie fan.

  3. He wanted her endorsement he as usual is lying. Taylor kicked him in his tiny tiny nut sack and he is bigly mad.

  4. wolfmamma says:

It’s old, Donald. You are old. Your tactics are old news.

Denial and lying is your art form.

We get it – o yes we do

    Vote Blue

  5. Miranda says:

Right, because Taylor and Brittany Mahomes are totally equals.🙄🙄 BM is famous for being married to a football guy. Taylor Swift is famous because she’s worked her ass off since she was a literal child and has so much starpower that people who never cared about sports were actually watching football just to see HER watch football.

    • Mimi says:

This. “Mrs. Mahomes”–derivative of Mr. Mahomes–is not in the same sphere or even same planet of influence as Taylor “Proud Childless Cat Lady” Swift. Put some respeck on her name.

      • ML says:

“Leon” Musk’s buddy probably doesn’t remember Mrs Mahomes’ first name.

And yes, it’s pretty funny that he prefers “Mrs (ie the wife of)” Mahomes to a highly rich, successful, childless cat lady with a ton of followers and influence. Most people I know aren’t football fans and have no idea who Brittany even is other than s friend of Taylor Swift’s. On the other hand, almost everyone I know is aware of who Taylor is.

    • Becks1 says:

I am not a big follower of Brittany Mahomes, but how can you say you’re a bigger fan of someone who hasn’t done anything except marry the right quarterback? Like, its not an equal discussion. I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift. However, I am a casual fan of Olivia Rodrigo. Those two things are more equivalent – one singer/songwriter I dont particularly care for, one I do.

Comparing a WAG to a global MUSIC superstar is just…..not the same thing. Does anyone outside the US know who BM is? I feel like most people in the US don’t ,and most who probably do only do bc of……Taylor lol. (I mean we watch a lot of football and I could have told you who Brittany Mahomes was in a picture but that was about it.) I dont know any WAGs in the UK besides the Rooney wife and even then I can’t tell you her first name at this point.

That’s why this comparison is just baffling to me. I get they’ve been photographed together and appear to be friends, but they are not “equals” in pop culture by any means.

  6. Pinkosaurus says:

Trump’s comments are turning Brittany Mahomes into the MAGA poster child and I think he’s just going to keep repeating it because he has dementia, but also because his super fragile ego has to believe his supporters are better than his detractors, so Brittany has to be better than Taylor. This has got to be causing mega heartburn among Patrick Mahomes’ business team.

Brittany Mahomes only liked and unliked a couple MAGA posts EXCEPT then she issued that completely immature and frankly stupid response to “haters” of her “success”, AND THEN she didn’t respond when Trump thanked her for being such a stalwart supporter. Now that Trump is comparing her favorably against her supposed friend TS, is she not going to say anything now? What if he keeps repeating it and it doesn’t just go away?

Patrick Mahomes said yesterday he wasn’t going to endorse anyone and I’m sure his representation financed by his highly lucrative endorsement deals do not want him to alienate anyone. Patrick Mahomes may be full MAGA but he has been very careful for years to remain inoffensive and nonpolitical and his idiot wife has stepped in the MAGA💩 and is tracking it all over their family name and his uncontroversial, highly positive reputation.

  7. Mirelle says:

Taylor has more influence, money, and popularity than either Trump or B. Mahomes. He doesn’t have the numbers flocking to his rallies that she has going to her concerts. This burns him. Making antagonistic comments about Taylor while praising Brittany just adds to the stupid, foolish, moronic persona that got exposed to the America public during the debate. Trump is not having a good week. Now if only Jack Smith and his team can leak some intel to the American voting public on which domestic or foreign adversary got hold of the those classified documents Trump stole from the archives that would make my week.

  8. Seraphina says:

Anyone with half a brain can see that yet again he made it all about himself. He likes BM because she is MAGA. Whatever. As always this has nothing to do with the art or the character of the artist but has everything to do with whether the person in question supports his agenda. Or his concept of an agenda.
Donald always looks out for himself and it’s always about him. There is no more depth to it than that.

  9. Digital Unicorn says:

He is beyond desperate to have a proper celebrity endorse or even like him – everyone else is suing him or threatening to.

  10. Truthiness says:

I’m willing to bet Taylor won’t lose much. Her brand was already under seige for not endorsing earlier. Dobbs changed women’s rights, staying silent in a close election would have cost her bottom line.

  11. Mina_Esq says:

He is praising BM because he is not stupid enough to actually attack Taylor. Kind of like how he never attacked Eminem.

  12. SIde Eye says:

“She will probably pay the price for it … in the marketplace” is a veiled threat. My God this man is dangerous.

I hate that Brittany inserted herself into this mess because she wants attention. She could have just liked and unliked the post without a statement and just let everyone speculate, but no, she had to go give us her useless platitudes about “haters” etc. I am so pissed at the Mahomes right now. So frigging over them. And not one statement from them doing the right thing correcting the narrative about Haitian immigrants in Ohio. A whole community with a target on its back cause MAGA are rabid racist assholes who can’t fact check a single thing. And that’s exactly the problem I have with MAGA they are incapable of setting the record straight, admitting they were wrong, and apologizing. They delight in the cruelty the Haitian people now have to face.

And yes I know it’s not the Mahomes’ job to fact check Trump, but they could show some support in light of they’ve been inserted into this narrative all week.

Trump looks old AF like he had the week from hell lol. I love this for him.

During the debate, someone posted on Reddit (about Trump) “get rekt, weirdo”.

It’s now my favorite quote, and what I think of every time I see his face. Get wrecked weirdo. I hope the Swifties make his life a living hell the way he did for every marginalized community since 2016.

    • Lemons says:

@SideEye, unless Kansas City is in Ohio (or that’s where the Mahomeses spend the off-season), I don’t see why they need to do any correcting of the Haitian migrant story.

Outside of political figures and news channels refuting the lie, I don’t believe we should be talking about anything other than the fact that Trump saw a city issue on TV (or so he claims) and thought it was a legitimate talking point for a presidential candidate during a debate.

I honestly hate the way Patrick and Brittany have handled everything because 1) I despise MAGA supporters and 2) Either own it or stay in the shadows. And this latest mushy response is so inappropriate because in this election more so than any other “not caring about politics” just means you are in such a place of privilege that politics will never really matter, so you choose the most selfish option.

More rich people who are MAGA or conservative should just say: “I’m very lucky to be a part of the 1%, and unfortunately for the rest, I’m going to vote to keep it that way for me and mine.”

      • SIde Eye says:

Ok fair enough Lemons. But I think this issue, even though it’s not in Kansas City, was brought front and center at the debate, and you have an entire community now fearing for their lives. On the other side, you have rabid, violent racists, and their hatred of anyone Brown and Black is sociopathic. They were just given the green light to get let loose in Ohio by their fearless leader. But not just in Ohio. Anywhere.

The classy thing to do (and I know the irony of putting MAGA and classy together) would have been, instead of centering herself as the victim of “haters” and acting like a self centered, spoiled brat, since people are following her “likes” on Instagram (I admit I don’t follow her and had no idea who she even was before this week, after this week, I have zero interest in following her) maybe just like a post that debunks this story. That’s it.

Because one of two thing is going ons: either the former president is senile dumbass and can’t do one minute of research to debunk a story and he’s gullible and believes whatever some guy on TV says, OR, he made it all up to incite hate. It’s one or the other. Both are unacceptable, but the Mahomes don’t even have to take it that far and ascribe a motive – or even post about it, just subtly and indirectly show you don’t believe the story. Period. It’s that easy. I can do it on my platform but, I have far less influence and MAGA doesn’t listen to me. One post would do far in debunking the story and there are people who believe the story (most MAGAs actually believe it, as insane as that sounds), but I’m pretty sure she won’t be posting politics anymore.

So it’s not a Ohio problem. It’s a national one. He put a target on EVERYONE’s back who isn’t White. He made us ALL just a little more unsafe with that unhinged BS he was spewing – and that’s the point. The cruelty and the fear IS the point.

If you are MAGA and you don’t believe this story and you say nothing you are a coward. Period. You can still vote for your nazi felon but you are letting a lie just sit there about an entire community without correcting it I’m not surprised cause this is the same crew that sat silent through “Mexicans are rapists” it’s MAGA. they lie and scapegoat like they breathe. They want to portray themselves as good people doing good in the community, but why not take ONE minute of your time to debunk a lie that is making people unsafe. But sure Jan, cry us a river about how you’re the victim in all of this.

  13. Clove says:

He may not have been her fan, but he wanted her endorsement. Yesterday He said that her career would go down because she didn’t support him. Like Taylor Swift, Donald Trump this man is insane.. Did anyone catch in the debate where he said that he talked to Putin after he left office? That’s why the documents were at his home.

  14. Murphy says:

Its pretty outrageous that he thought for even a second she would endorse him, that’s just nuts.

  15. Lau says:

He doesn’t sound like he was prepared at all for that particular endorsement but he seems like the kind of person who doesn’t believe in being prepared for things.

  16. GoodWitchGlenda says:

She will, quite literally, not lose a single thing that matters to her because of this. Her shows will continue to sell out, her albums will continue to sell well.

  17. Eleonor says:

She didn’t put the country first.
TS fanbase is global, and outside the US we are following this election.
TS knows this: losing some American MAGA supporter will not change that much, her image taking a hint globally ? That’s another story.
This is why I agree with those who think that this moved was planned months ago.

  18. truth says:

Taylor swift endorsed Joe Biden in 2020. Taylor Swoft was worth $350 million in 2020. In 2024, she’s worth $1.3 billion. Her net worth TRIPLED after endorsing Joe Biden.

imagine how much she’ll be worth when she endorses Harris for re-election in 2028.

  19. Harla says:

Kid Rock must be crushed! Speaking of which, where’s he been? Why hasn’t he been performing at any of the Cheetos rallies??
