People: Jennifer Garner loves John Miller ‘their relationship is fun and easy-going’

Jennifer Garner and John Miller have been together on and off since 2018. Given all of the drama and attention that Ben Affleck gets, I think it’s crazy how under the radar Jen and John have always been able to fly. We almost never see pictures of the two of them together, and to be honest, I couldn’t even pick him out of a line up. I have mad respect for Jen for pulling this off.

On that note, a source spoke with People this week to give a rare comment about Jen and John’s relationship. In the past, we’ve heard about how he and Ben have a mutual respect for one another and that they were getting close with each other’s families. According to the source, Jen is very happy with their relationship. They’re both in co-parenting situations and spend time together when Jen and Ben’s children – Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12 – are with their father. Their relationship is serious but also “fun and easy-going.”

A source tells PEOPLE that Garner, 52, spends as much time as possible with Miller when she’s not with her three kids — Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12 — whom she shares with Affleck.

“She loves [Miller],” a source tells PEOPLE, noting that the pair spent the weekend together as Affleck is caring for the kids.

“They are serious. He’s also a co-parent and understands her priority,” the source says. “Their relationship is fun and easy-going. She’s very happy.”

Garner and businessman Miller first connected in 2018, shortly after the 13 Going on 30 actress finalized her divorce from Affleck, whom she married in June 2005. Though the pair were seen together over the years, Garner said she was single in a March 2021 interview with PEOPLE.

In February 2023, a source told PEOPLE that Garner and Miller “took a long break from dating, but Jen is very happy that they are back together.”

The couple were recently spotted on a date night in August at a Los Angeles restaurant. The two were photographed with smiles on their faces and dressed casually, with the actress in a blue sweater and Miller in a flannel button-up shirt over a white tee.

I feel like this is more information about them than we’ve gotten in a long time. I’m really happy for Jen. She deserves to be in a healthy relationship with a lowkey, easy-going, and fun partner. As her children get older, I wonder if we will ever see more of them out and about together or if they’ll always keep it on the downlow. Looking at his picture, I think John looks a lot like Michael Vartan, who Jen dated while they were filming Alias together. Looks wise, Affleck is more my type but I had the biggest crush on Vartan back in the day.

  1. I’m sure she is very happy not to have to parent an adult child and deal with all the mood swings. Glad she is in a much better place.

  2. Walking the Walk says:

Good for her. And I bet they took a break because of Affleck and his BS back in the day too. Jen was constantly saving him from himself.

  3. ML says:

Ages ago, when their divorce was taking a longgg time, some people thought JGa would get back together with Ben. At some leter point, whenever this came up, we’d hear about John Miller. My guess is that JGa wants to make it crystal clear that she is not getting back together with Ben Affleck.

    • Kate says:

      Good point!

    • Christine says:

Agreed! She’s getting ahead of the tabloids’ incoming narrative that Ben realized during his marriage to JLo that Jen Garner was the real love of his life. You know it’s coming.

      • Lens says:

Coming? It’s been out there. And jlo’s Stan’s believe it. She’s getting all kinds of hate from them I noticed because of the lower tier tabloids like radar online life and style etc. These Stan’s know nothing about their history or they wouldn’t get all torn up about the fact they coparent closely and always have. I’ve always believed that Jen never fully trusted Ben / it took him until 2020 to get shared custody.

  4. Embee says:

JenG must be exhausted dealing with Ben and his crap. I’m sure (hormones and limerence aside) that she believed she’d found a brilliant, sensitive, successful man with whom to have kids. And not that she’d be parenting him the rest of her life.

    • Kaye says:

Thanks, Embee, for reminding me that “limerence” is a great word, even though I had to look it up again. Maybe it’ll stick this time!

      • Christine says:

That is a great word, and I had to look it up too. I’m surprised it isn’t in daily use here, since it so appropriately can be applied to a certain royal situation we talk about occasionally! Here’s hoping I can retain it.

  5. robinathefirst says:

The Michael Vartan resemblance just hit me! Good for her.

  6. DaveW says:

That’s it…Michael Vartan! Josh Lucas was in my head but knew that wasn’t his name.

I wondered if they went to Japan together in August. She posted a bunch of pics from a trip and a few looked like they were of fancy/romantic dinners and a boat ride, not kid friendly type places.

    • Christine says:

It sounds like she only spends time with him when she doesn’t have the kids, to which I say, good for her. I’m really impressed with Jennifer Garner’s level of adulting.

Ben drags any old person he happens to attach himself to into his kids’ lives. He was actually married to JLo, and managed to be EVEN MORE disrespectful to her than he was to JGarner, and I say that as a super fan of hers. JLo has never been my thing, I didn’t have any feelings one way or another for her, but now? Yeah, I feel for her, the levels of humiliation are unending with Ben Affleck.

      • Lauren says:

You think what happened with JLO and Ben was worse than how Ben treated Jen? Sleeping with the nanny, then after the divorce saying that JLo is the love of his life after 9/10 years together. Saying that JLO and his last girlfriend are the reasons he’s sober. Not to mention after everything Jen did for him and to save his career he put his drinking problem on her and the kids.

He treated Jen way worse than JLO.

      • Christine says:

It’s the level of gaslighting this time, for me. The inscription on the ring did it. It’s just levels of cruel that are unbelievable. Jennifer Garner at least got the respect of marriage counseling, and the appearance that he wanted to try. Ben just flipped the off switch with JLo, like she’s a light bulb, not a human being he managed to convince TWICE that she was the love of his life.

Make no mistake, I have thought Ben Affleck was a grade A asshole for decades now, he’s never been in a good place with me.

    • Lilly says:

Jennifer Garner was in Japan with Ben Affleck and the kids this summer, afterwards they dropped of Violet at Yale. This while J.Lo was in LA and then filed for divorce.

  7. Karmaflower says:

Jennifer Garner has always been more than Ben Affleck’s loyal doormat. She deserves so much better than all the crap he drags into her life. Co parenting is one thing. Needing to stay in a room at his house is beyond. If he is in that precarious of a state, he should be in rehab or outpatient or have a male sober living companion staying with him 24/7 that he is not authorized to fire. And the kids should be protected & in therapy as well. I’m not saying it needs to be tough love. I’m saying if she wants to have healthy relationships, if she wants her children to know what healthy relationships look like, it can’t always be her. That’s absolutely not okay to her or the kids, or anyone she tries to have a relationship.

That’s my opinion. It’s based on 3 decades plus of being around an addict/alcoholic, other alcoholics, other substance abuse users (heroin, Dilaudid, fentanyl, meth, coke, shrooms, lsd, etc) plus a sibling who died at 30 after trying to get clean. I don’t use. I don’t drink. I understand not everyone who uses becomes an addict and not everyone who drinks becomes an alcoholic.

    • Christine says:

Wait, what’s this? Are you saying JenG is living in Ben’s house to keep him sober?

      • Lens says:

She’s not living in Ben’s house. He rented a house very close to hers but bought a new one he hasn’t moved into yet. When they first separated he lived in their guest house for a couple of years until they actually filed for divorce.
