Dave Grohl’s wife has known about his outside-the-marriage baby ‘for a while’

Last week, Dave Grohl announced that he fathered a child outside of his marriage. Grohl has been married to Jordyn Blum for over 21 years, and they have three daughters together (aged 18, 15 and 10). Last week, there were some social media conspiracies about who this “other woman” was, although Grohl has done a lot to shut down the speculation. Reportedly, Grohl also hired a divorce lawyer before he announced anything. I’ve gotten the sense that a lot is happening behind the scenes – I would not be surprised at all if we learn that Jordyn and Dave quietly separated at some point this year, nor would I be surprised if we learn that the “other woman” was not a brief hookup but a full-blown affair. Well, People Magazine continues to have some interesting exclusives about the situation:

Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum’s future together remains unclear following news the rocker recently welcomed a child with another woman. On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Foo Fighters frontman, 55, made the shocking revelation on Instagram, telling fans he is doing “everything I can to regain” the trust of Blum and their children. (Grohl and Blum are parents to daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10.)

According to a source close to Blum, the interior designer, 48, has known “for a while” about Grohl’s baby news.

“She was shocked when she found out about the baby. Her friends are like family, and they rallied around her,” says another Blum friend.

Over the years, “Dave’s flirty behavior has been a hurdle in their marriage. It’s been hurtful to Jordyn,” adds the Blum source.

While Grohl’s fans were shocked by his baby news, some in the couple’s circle weren’t entirely surprised. “We keep reading over and over again how heartbroken everyone is because Dave was supposed to be the ‘good guy,’ the rockstar that didn’t have to do those rockstar things,” says a source who knows the couple. “And people are crazy about the guy, but there is a rockstar side.”

Grohl and Blum — who have been married since 2003 — also often “felt like an opposites attract type of [relationship],” adds the source.

A rep for Grohl declined to comment, and Blum has not responded to requests for comment from PEOPLE.

[From People]

Yeah, it would be pretty awful if Dave sprung the baby news on Jordyn when his side-chick was nine months pregnant. But I wonder how long is “a while.” I also wonder why he only recently hired a divorce lawyer. Obviously, none of this is my business, only Dave did make the public statement about the baby and trying to make it right with his family. Ugh. What a way to blow up your family, your marriage and your relatively wholesome dad-rocker image.

Sigh. Why are men? The age old question…

If the rumor that his mistress essentially forced his hand in the IG announcement is true, then there’s almost no way that this wasn’t a full-blown affair. If it was a one-off thing that resulted in an unplanned baby, I doubt the mistress would be reacting so emotionally. It reads like she got sick of being a secret and wanted him to come forward, go public, and take responsibility.

Shit like this is always a good reminder that we never truly know celebs, but I admit this one blindsided and disappointed me. At the end of the day I guess he’s just your generic, stereotypical rockstar and not the family man he always portrayed himself as.

    • Megan says:

I just assumed he hired a divorce lawyer because his wife already had one. An extra martial affair is one thing, but an extra martial child is an entirely separate matter. I hope the side chick also has a good lawyer because he needs to pay up.

  2. Agnes says:

Rock stars gonna rock star. Remember when the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin had swarms of 14 year old groupies lining up after every show for some casual statutory rape? It’s never been a wholesome lifestyle, and I doubt Grohls is only admired for his “good dad” image.

  3. Normades says:

The only surprising thing about this is that it didn’t happen sooner. Dave is a total man-ho and has been forever.

I think he is only recognizing this child because the dna tests are in and baby mama won’t stay silent. Otherwise he would have just pushed this under the rug like all his other indiscretions.

  4. ElleE says:

    “Flirty behavior” “welcomed a child”

Hmmmm. I am thinking this is not their first rodeo. Imagine how “flirty” was 10 years ago!

His wife tried to hold it together for the kids. He didn’t help with that at all!

  5. BlueSky says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if he was waiting on paternity test results. Also, he may have tipped off that this story was about to be published and wanted to get his version out.

  6. Charlotte says:

You know what would have prevented this? A VASECTOMY DAVE! Since we know he has a history of AIDs denialism, it appears he’s carried a dislike of condoms into late adulthood (like many people my age who came up in the slutty days pre-AIDS when we had birth control).

MEN! SNIP THAT BAD BOY AND EVERYONE IS HAPPIER.

    • DK says:

Ugh, I can see how a spouse might move past some light cheating (don’t know whether this was a one-time thing, light cheating, or full blown affair), but ANY cheating that does not involve safe sex is grounds for immediate divorce, unless Grohl and his wife have ceased having sex.

Otherwise, snip or not, he’s risking her health and safety every time he refuses to use a condom with someone else.

      And that’s a true d-head move.

      • Charlotte says:

        Absolutely!
But since he has a documented history of AIDs denialism with the Foo Fighters, that part tracks. I’m sure he “doesn’t believe” in STDs either.

But really! Men! If you’re done making babies, GET THAT THING SNIPPED! It’s so much easier on you than it is for your partner to be on birth control, and it will prevent you from ruining your life by making a baby with a groupie.

  7. Harla says:

I watched a documentary about Dave and the founding of the Foo Fighters and while I like his music, I couldn’t deal with him on a day to day basis. I see that a lot of people are like “he’s a bad husband but a great dad” but honestly how would a great dad blow up his daughters trust in him, in such a public and life altering way? He might make breakfast every morning but keeping his pants on would have been better.

  8. orangeowl says:

A friend of mine was just about the same age and their daughters a similar age when she found out her husband had a secret child. It was beyond devastating to all involved, I can’t imagine this happening under such an intense spotlight. It’s not a situation for the faint of heart.

    • Chaine says:

Someone in my fam found out her hubs had had an affair and a secret child when the child was TEN years old, almost same age as one of her own kids with him. He had been secretly paying child support the whole time. She ended up staying with him 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ He would not have anything to do with the child, either, even though all parties lived in the same small town and all the kids went to the same school.

      • Kebbie says:

I think a man refusing to have a relationship with his own child is just about as disgusting as fathering one outside of his marriage. I can’t imagine sharing a bed or a life with someone like that.

      • orangeowl says:

My friend found about the kid when he was 4. Such a shock. Her husband is an involved father and even more shocking to me was that she stayed and is helping raise the boy as sort of a stepmom.

      • liz says:

A friend of mine was the child in that situation. She found out who her father was when she was 15 or 16. She had a half-sister in the grade above hers at school and a half-brother a few years older. Her mother had been 17 when she was born and she was largely raised by her maternal grandparents. Her father never publicly acknowledged her and she never met him. Her half-siblings didn’t know anything until after their father died.

    • terra says:

I’ve never met my biological father, but I know that I have a sister and brother that are four and seven years younger, respectively.

He married a year after I was born after telling my mother he’d marry her when she told him she was pregnant, but couldn’t promise to be faithful if she said yes. She was pregnant with his child the year before she got pregnant with me and they still kept hooking up after terminating the first pregnancy.

They were never more than casually dating. I’ve often wondered if he was already with the woman he married when I was conceived.

  9. ML says:

The article quotes a source saying that Blum has known about the baby “for a while.”
“A while” is doing heavy lifting there: exactly how long/ short is that?
Perhaps a more interesting question is HOW she found out about the child.

    • Lady Digby says:

@ML also who is the OW? Certainly hope it is not the nanny or a friend of his daughter as per the rumours. Please , please don’t cheat but if you do so at least leave the house first and don’t literally do it in the home that you share with your trusting wife and daughters ! Adultery producing an outside child is a huge thing but even worse if the wife and children knew and have welcomed the OW into the home believing her to be their friend. Such a betrayal by husband and OW if she’s part of family circle as nanny or friend.

  10. Truthiness says:

A divorce lawyer needs to be an expert in family law. They could be retained to handle the payout to the mistress and stay on if the Grohls decide to throw in the towel. I have no reaction, just another rock star incapable of fidelity.

  11. chatter says:

Dave Grohl is dead to me.
To PR himself as “Perfect Dad Dave” while he carries on for decades, F.O. Dave.
“Meeeedium talent” as Bill Murray said to Chevy Chase.
    Kurts’ drummer.

If Dave starts trying to publicly say he has trauma from Kurt, Taylor, his Mom passing and the cheating + extra child was his way of coping, I call BS.
Spoiled, selfish, man-child who does what he wants and damn the trauma he does to his wife and kids.
Regains their trust? Bet me! Lifelong issues from his actions, his daughters have been betrayed at a core level + publicly humiliated.
Why do cheaters always think it will be so easily repaired?

  12. Digital Unicorn says:

The Fail has a piece on how he has had a 15 year long affair with a porn actress that started when he got married – thou no suggestion that its the mother of the new baby.

Am seeing lots of rumours on SM that the baby mamma was a friend of one of the daughters and Courtney Love said he was inappropriate towards Frances Bean. Given the alleged age of the mother that should not surprise us.

  13. chatter says:

I’ve heard the rumor that the new childs’ Mum is 19 y/o, former friend of his 18 y/o daughter, friend of the family who Dave has known for 7+ years. Likely during the Oz tour while wife/kids in US. He is a well known cheater/groupie for decades, Courtney Love warned us he was a phoney. He is also well known for alcohol/drug useage for decades.
And he released his statement bc he was told “You openly claim our child OR I will”
    Threats/blackmail/paternity tests before his statement.

I hope his career is in flames!
DG net worth is thought to be $330M.
To his legal wife, I call on the Universe to rain down 60%+child support+therapy+both houses+schooling+demand Trust funds fully funded for their 3 kids ASAP. I hope she files and sets a new high level of $$.
Btw, yes this hits me. My now Ex cheated + affair kid while I was pregnant with our first.
No forgiveness. I divorced in record time. 2 years later he divorced her and begged me to take him back. No.
Currently he is now on #5 wife, none of his kids speak to him and he is now 58 y/o, and yes his sister has told me he has cheated on every partner, she still thinks I can “fix him.” WTH?

For all the ways society is changing, Dave needs to be cancelled. Rock Stars gonna rock star is total BS. Want to have sex w/lots of others? Stay single and do whatever.

    • NikkiK says:

That rumor about the mom being 19 was debunked. It was a social media hoax and the young lady who started it apologized and said please don’t sue me. LOL.

  14. chatter says:

Gotta wonder where the AP+kid are being hidden.
SM + tabs should be on this like fire.
I can see Daily Mail and/or TMZ paying big $$ for a scoop photo.

$100k minimum offer should get somebody on the inside to sell Dave out.
You know Daves lawyers forced a NDA on OW.
Look how quickly the ex-roomate of the dark haired woman sold/told his story, you gotta know he got $$ for that too.

  15. Anonymous says:

My thoughts are as follows, he lost Taylor his friend and bandmate how he lost Kurt. I think that was definitely triggering. He made some foolish decisions probably while drinking not thinking about the repercussions and now here we are. He should and does know better but grief is a thing. I feel bad for his wife and ultimately it’s their business. It would suck being famous

  16. Jen says:

Does his wife want a divorce? Maybe. But divorce is part of family law, and there’s more to family law than the dissolution of marriage. Maybe this lawyer is to represent his interests in negotiating child support and access/custody with the mother of this child. Or maybe his wife wants a post-nup instead of a divorce. This could go a lot of ways, all requiring expertise in family law.
