Zach Bryan tweeted ‘Kanye > Taylor’ & the Swifties made him delete his account

Who’s got the better swarm, the Beyhive or the Swifties? Both groups will attack their queen’s enemies with abandon, even if it means committing crimes. I feel like the Swifties are more dangerous, while the Beyhivers think long-term and keep extensive receipts. Anyway, the Swifties swarmed again. It’s been a minute, but this was, ahem, Taylor-made for them. Zach Bryan is a country singer and he dared to compare Taylor Swift unfavorably to none other than Kanye West. It did not go well for Zach Bryan.

Zach Bryan has learned a powerful lesson—don’t drink and tweet. The country singer found himself in hot water on Sept. 18 when he tweeted about Taylor Swift and Kanye West with the message, “Eagles > chiefs,” followed by, “Kanye > Taylor,” adding, “Who’s with me?”

Not surprisingly, Swifties everywhere were not with Zach, who later deleted his X account (formerly Twitter) in the wake of the backlash from the post.

Zach backpedaled early in the morning on Sept. 19, posting lengthy messages to his Instagram Story apologizing and explaining his actions.

“For the record guys I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night,” the “Heading South” singer wrote on top of a screengrab of Taylor’s song with Post Malone “Fortnight.” “I was drunkenly comparing two records and it came out wrong… I know there’s a lot of stuff that clouds around Ye and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylor’s music and pray you guys know I’m human and tweet stupid things often.”

Zach added that he hoped to “one day explain” his comments to the “Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” singer.

“Twitter gets me in trouble too much and I’d say it’s best I stay off it,” he noted. “I’m sorry to any Taylor fans I pissed off or let down. Love you guys and I’m trying my best!”

But the message didn’t end there. Zach continued in a new post featuring Taylor’s song “The Albatross,” sharing that he’s been “going through a hard time in my own life,” adding, “I think I was projecting a little.” Praising the Grammy winner, Zach continued, “I respect her so much as a musician that the last thing I want is people thinking I don’t appreciate and love what she has done for music.”

He concluded his message with a warning to fans: “Don’t drink and tweet. Don’t drink and tweet!!”

[From E! News]

Do I feel sorry for him at all? No. The Swifties will never support him now either, so he could have stood on business and just left the tweet up. I mean, it’s all going to do irreparable damage to his career anyway, so why not hold the line? Anyway, this man is lying. He wasn’t comparing them musically or comparing albums. Even if he was, I couldn’t see how Kanye’s discography is better than Taylor’s? My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was a great album, but that was kind of the last time Kanye made something good? And he’s a Nazi these days too. So that’s another element to how bad this is.

  3. Chanteloup says:

hahaha Now do JD and don the con Swifties!

    • wolfmamma says:

Golly I am with you in this but that’s a whole level of backlash .. that might actually endanger Taylor.

  4. Sue says:

Oh my God, I immediately thought “Was he drunk?” because how could anyone, especially in the music industry, be this stupid? Like, he knows what Swifties’ online behavior is like, right? But then I thought, “No, that’s mean” to immediately think that about anyone. And then I read on and he admitted that he was, indeed, drunk.

I am not a country music fan, but I’m usually at least tapped into cultural context. I just scrolled his songs and none of them ring a bell. He wasn’t even correct on Eagles > Chiefs. Also, Andy Reid took so much abuse in Philly and I love seeing him thrive in KC.

If you’re going to be dumb, you better be tough. 🙂

    • QuiteContrary says:

Andy Reid took abuse in Philly because he had a record of horrendous clock mismanagement with the Eagles, mostly glaringly in the 2005 Super Bowl.

That said, Zach Bryan is an idiot.

Man was I fooled by Zach’s sad tales of PTSD and heartache. I had his duet with Kasey Musgraves I Remember Everything on repeat for months! It lead me to listen to other songs and I loved most of them. I stopped listening when he had Sexxy Red join him for a set, and all she did was twerk. I thought “Nope. This person is not an ally.

What dumb f*ck he turned out to be.

I’m still waiting for the Swifties to fuck up Megyn Kelly, Laura Loomer, DT and Vance. Come THRU Swifties!!!

    • Ciotog says:

I love that duet with Kasey Musgraves. He also did a song with Noah Kahan. I’m disappointed in him, thought he was better than this!

I am so mad that I momentarily took this guy seriously as a progressive country star. A lot of people feel the need to scratch Taylor and sniff.

It smells like a lot of jealous, handsy male bullshit.

  7. NJGR says:

My dream is that the Beyhive, the Swifties, and the BTS Army join forces and decisively defeat the MAGAts.

  8. BanjoVino says:

I’ve loved Zach’s music for a long time now, but the more famous he gets, the more distasteful his personality becomes. He should seek some advice on getting famous quickly, and on getting sober, from Tyler Childers and then quietly live his life while making good music.

  9. Jais says:

    Ew. Get ‘em Swifties.

  10. sevenblue says:

I don’t know what is more disturbing, a black nazi or people still supporting the black nazi. Why is that his drunk thought though? That is really weird. Not surprising he is a country artist.

Beyhive isn’t as active anymore since Beyonce doesn’t go outside much and share her life like before. At least that is what I see from the SM. In the past, they wouldn’t let anyone say anything negative about Beyonce even when Beyonce told them to stop harassing people.

  11. Anna Nonymous says:

This is the equivalent of I was just joking. See also she was asking for it, you made me do it, it’s not my fault etc. This guy deserves to have backlash and so does anyone else supporting Kanye over Taylor. I’m not even a Swiftie but Kanye has one good song that he sampled from someone else. Yes I agree to the earlier commenter that said he’s become a Nazi. He cozies up to Donald Drumpf, he’s dressing his current wife in a degrading humiliating naked state daily and clearly struggles with mental illness. How is that better than Taylor Swift? The woman improves the economies of countries she performs in and cities in the US. Her catalog spans decades of chart topping hits that have become part of the international to lexicon. To say Kanye is better than her is doubling down on every Maga trait of belittling women’s rights, women’s accomplishments, bodies, and minds. Our very person hood and right to control our bodies, our wombs is at stake. Get out there and mobilize, get out the vote, volunteer, keep a positive outlook and attitude! We’ve almost made it. For my Daughter I stand up. For your Family I stand up. For You I stand up to hate, bigotry, sexism and negativity. This country is optimistic, joyous and has a gigantic Spirit that can’t be contained by any amount of hate. The message can get muddied, confusion has been sown, yet we stand firm in the face of darkness. We stand strong in the eye of the storm and we say bring it on. I am not afraid. We are stronger United! Let us Unite as Americans, as Global Citizens to vote, support, love, and cheer on the irrepressible Kamala Harris!!! I love her style, her campaign, I love her! I am so excited for the possibilities of this new beginning for America!

The fact that he came for the Chiefs immediately before he came for Taylor further supports that he absolutely wasn’t comparing albums. He was coming for Taylor as a person. A lot of Taylor fans are country music fans, whilst I expect that the crossover is much lower for Kanye fans. He basically alienated a whole lot of potential fans.
