SpongeBob’s Krabby Patties are coming to Wendy’s and other restaurants

SpongeBob SquarePants turns 25 this year. I find it so crazy that a show that I watched as a kid is still turning out new episodes that my own kids now look forward to watching. They’re especially into one of its spin-offs, Kamp Koral. In honor of the residents of Bikini Bottom being with us for a quarter of a century, Nickelodeon and Paramount are teaming up with a bunch of different restaurants to bring fans the “The Krabby Patty Kollab,” which will bring SpongeBob-themed foods into the real world, including the show’s most famous meal, the Krabby Patty. Starting on October 8, fans can order the Krusty Krab’s signature burger in fast food joints like Wendy’s. Other items will show up in places like Duck Donuts, Seoul Taco, The Backyard Smokehouse, and a whole lot more. In fact, there’s a planned total of 100 SBSP food items coming our way.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” Nickelodeon and Paramount are launching “The Krabby Patty Kollab,” a program to bring food items inspired by the iconic “SpongeBob” burger into real restaurants. Beginning Oct. 8, select restaurants, chefs and celebrities will give fans the opportunity to sample themed food items inspired by the show, including dumplings, falafel, burgers, doughnuts, ice cream and more.

“SpongeBob SquarePants began his journey as a fry cook, flipping Krabby Patties in the pilot episode of the series 25 years ago, and the coveted patty has since remained an enduring fixture in Bikini Bottom,” said Sherry Liu, SVP Studio Franchise Strategy & Operations, Nickelodeon and Paramount. “Though its formula remains a secret, ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ fans will now be able to enjoy imaginative interpretations of the legendary Krabby Patty through this unique collaboration.”

“The Krabby Patty Kollab” program is set to introduce over 100 “SpongeBob”-themed culinary adaptations in over 250 local restaurants across New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Las Vegas, Toronto, London and Mexico City. The program will be available through Oct. 27. In the U.S., Canada and Guam, Wendy’s will offer their own “Krabby Patty Kollab” Burger and Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty through early November.

Nickelodeon and Paramount collaborated with Off The Menu and The MRG Group, who have previously teamed up to create leading experiential food-centric events.

“The Krabby Patty Kollab” is part of a series of programming from Nickelodeon and Paramount+ as the two companies continue to produce a slate of 25th anniversary programs for “SpongeBob SquarePants.” This includes all-new original content across Paramount ecosystem, location-based experiences, consumer products and games, first-to-market partnerships and more.

Next up will be “Kreepaway Kamp,” a one-hour special premiering Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ in the U.S. as well as in additional territories later in the year.

I’ve always been a fan of those gummy Krabby Patties that they sell at Five Below and whatnot. They’re hella unhealthy for you but they’re also delicious. About a week or so ago, my family and I saw a sign while driving by our local Wendy’s about the real-life Krabby Patty coming our way, and my kids were pretty excited about it. We try to avoid fast food as much as we can, but this will make a nice special treat for them next weekend, because we’re fun parents, I swear! I didn’t know about the other crossover items. That’s pretty cool!

I like and appreciate that SpongeBob is one of those shows that has appropriate, cross-generational appeal. This promotion reminds me of when I was growing up and watched all of the Nick at Nite shows (Mary/Munster Mondays, Lucy Tuesdays, Bewitched Be-Wednesdays, Jeannie Thursdays, etc; I know Happy Days was in there for a while, too.). If only some chain had asked people to stomp on grapes or stuff chocolates in their mouths to celebrate I Love Lucy! Man, I loved Nick at Nite back in the day. Yeah, we’ll definitely be getting our Krabby Patties at Wendy’s soon.

Sooooo what makes it a Krabby Patty? Is it something new like a crabcake sandwich or just a Wendy’s burger in a Spongebob wrapper? More importantly, how do I live within 2hrs of 3 giant metro areas and none of them are serving it? Wah.

It seems like it’s a burger with a special sauce? I am intrigued as my nieces and nephews who are 3 and 5 have somehow been raised on SpongeBob SquarePants and know all the characters and have watched copious episodes.

I’m headed to Spirit Halloween to see if I can get a Plankton Costume before I order my Krabby Patty.

I got to try the Krabby Patty at a Wendys the other day. It was actually really good.

Wasn’t the secret ingredient plankton-like little sea creatures?
I love the show, especially the first seasons.
But they could’ve come out with that one at least ten years ago…
