‘America’s Sweetheart’ Tim Walz talks about election denialism & ‘weird’ Republicans

Jimmy Kimmel introduced Gov. Tim Walz as “America’s Sweetheart” last night and I think it’s perfect. Walz really has become America’s Sweetheart – a plain-spoken former teacher, football coach and common-sense governor who respects women and believes in service. It’s like he’s a character dreamt up by Aaron Sorkin. Gov. Walz was, in my opinion, pretty nervous for the first twenty minutes of last week’s VP debate, but he was much more relaxed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Walz spoke about the debate and JD Vance’s non-answer about who won the 2020 election – “that should have been the lede” – and described his “eternal optimism” in America and the American people: “This idea that we could have different ideas, but we have unity, love for democracy, have an election, and then shake hands, and admit that the person who won won. I think some of those things, we all grew up with pretty commonly.”

I’m ready for eight years as this man as vice president. He’s just incredibly decent and delightfully normal. When Kamala Harris chose Walz as her running mate, it made perfect sense to me because… he’s like Minnesota Biden, if that makes sense. There’s a Bidenesque air to Walz. Walz was also great in the 60 Minutes interview too.

  1. Americas sweetheart. Yes he is. A down to earth person who believes in unity and democracy.

I’m watching MVP on The View but just want to say that life is fine here in Minnesota which Republicans keep describing as a hell hole where babies are executed after birth. It sounds ridiculous because it is, but there are probably voters who believe it. There are obviously voters who will believe anything these days.

@Brassy – and I’m sure all the cities there are on fire and school kids are being forced to transition and use litter boxes. Sigh.
I always wonder if the Magats really believe that stuff or if they just want to believe it because they’re bored, or something.

In my not watching Faux News bubble, I was so surprised when a co-worker of mine moved to California from Utah and asked me (former Californian) if it was really a hell hole like they say. I was like, who says that? She said, Everyone! I was like, no you’re in a beach town, it’s pretty nice there, don’t you think?

Hugs Minnesota Sister! The horrors of Minnesota, right?! Its so ridiculous what people believe! Must by why it’s ranked #4 best states to live in? Must be our economy? Our education? Our healthcare? Our beautiful lakes and forests? Our leaders? Our commitment to care for each other? I am so proud of our state!

The way Walz loves his kids and is sweet to animals makes me tear up a little.

That was my observation too. He’s very Biden-esque. It made total sense to me. I know a lot of people wanted Shapiro, but I think it was too much of the same type of politician, and I’m not sure how much he would sabotage Kamala actually. Walz was a much better pick, even though the never Trumpers wanted Shapiro.

He’s such a lovely man and I look forward to him being our official Coach Veep for four years too.

There’s still time to make calls📱📞💻 canvass🚶🏾‍♀️👟and write out postcards ✍🏾
Let’s get this done in the home stretch peeps!!!

I like watching Tim Walz pretty much everywhere. Be it meeting that cat called Pumpkin the other day, or with JK, or walking with the “We rate dogs” guy.

Too bad he was so tense at the debate, but it was good to see him thawing at the end, and seeing glimmers of the tried and true TW emerge.

    Fingers crossed.

My kids were toddler and 1st grade age when we lived there. Every town had community centers with these indoor play places, like McDonald’s or Chucky Cheese had, except a LOT cleaner and safer, better supervised, and they always looked like the forest. Really missed those when we moved, especially in the winter. So, no litter boxes, but yes to chipmunk trails!

I remember reading, oh many years ago I guess, about how Minnesota ranked high in health & health care. And I thought, with those brutal winters? But of course, yes, there are people who like outdoor activities in the winter, but more than that–they opened their stadiums (baseball, basketball, whatever) in the winter to the public so that they can walk or roller blade or roller skate or whatever for exercise & in a safe place. I thought that was brilliant!

Love him and am so happy to have him as our next VP. Is it just me or did the 60 minutes interviewer treat him in a much friendlier manner than he treated VP Harris?
