Pres. Biden has had enough of Donald Trump’s hurricane disinformation

It’s October 10th and we’ve already run out of October Surprises: Bob Woodward’s reveal that Donald Trump is still in contact with Vladimir Putin; Trump sent Covid tests to Putin in the early days of the pandemic; Kamala Harris revealing that she owns a Glock and knows how to shoot it; JD Vance making it plain that Republicans are coming all reproductive rights and women’s health care. But one of the most disturbing October Surprises is watching Donald Trump, JD Vance and the extremist wingnut MAGA cult completely lose the plot in the middle of an extremely active hurricane season. Trump, Vance and their MAGAts have been lying for weeks in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s destruction. They ramped up their lies and disinformation campaign this week as Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida. Trump’s dangerous lies have led to meteorologists getting DEATH THREATS, reminiscent of those dumbf–ks who “protested” the pandemic outside of hospitals and harassed doctors and nurses. Yesterday, President Biden gave a briefing ahead of Milton’s landfall, and he has absolutely had enough of that f–king a–hole’s disinformation campaign.

President Biden on Wednesday accused former President Donald J. Trump of “outright lies” regarding the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene, causing morale issues among emergency medical workers and confusing victims of the storm. Mr. Biden lashed out at the former president and Republican lawmakers as he participated in a briefing from federal officials about Hurricane Milton, which is expected to slam into Florida’s west coast just two weeks after Helene hit the state.

“The last few weeks, there’s been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies,” Mr. Biden said. “It’s undermining confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work that has already been taken and will continue to be taken. It’s harmful to those who need help the most.”

Mr. Trump, who is seeking a second term in the White House, and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, have made accusations about the government’s response that have repeatedly been debunked by local, state and federal authorities in the disaster areas. The former president said at a Michigan rally that Vice President Kamala Harris had spent FEMA money on housing migrants. He said no helicopters had been used to rescue people in North Carolina. And he has claimed that FEMA told victims of the storms they would receive only $750. All of those false claims are part of what Mr. Biden on Wednesday called a “disturbing” pattern of comments.

“Assertions have been made that property is being confiscated. That’s simply not true,” Mr. Biden said. “They’re saying people impacted by these storms will receive $750 in cash and no more. That’s simply not true. They’re saying the money needed for this crisis is being diverted to migrants. What a ridiculous thing to say. It’s not true.”

[From The NY Times]

This is where the American media is fundamentally broken too – while there have been some anchors and journalists pushing back against Trump and Vance’s lies, too many reporters believe their job is simply asking Pres. Biden and VP Harris to respond to the MAGA lies, rather than the reporters fact-checking the sh-t themselves. Is this the October Surprise? The fact that Trump lives in a delusional bubble and thinks nothing of openly spreading these lies in the middle of an urgent crisis?

Biden’s low groan and half-muttered “come on” in this video is sending me. VP Harris also called into the Weather Channel, once again meeting people where they are and leading.

I was so grateful to see PJB push back against that fucking asshole lies. It’s absolutely maddening that he even had to do it but here we are dealing with this shit. I am so tired of him.

The American corporate media has an agenda, and it is to hand over our country to rich white extremists. They do not care about us. We. Are. All. We’ve. Got.

  2. It’s ridiculous what the maga crap has been repeating as truth such as democrats can control the weather. These people are so stupid and dangerous. Mainstream media needs to be held accountable for their helping this and not dissuading it right when it starts.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

MAGA: Biden and Harris are totally incompetent.

Also MAGA: Biden and Harris are controlling the weather and sending hurricanes to red states.

It amazes me that people think democrats can control the weather. If that were true, wouldn’t mar a lago be the first target?

  3. Mab's A'Mabbin says:

It’s as though we’re back at the height of yellow journalism but on steroids.

  4. DaveW says:

This….friends in and and FL are posting and asking us to share that FEMA and other agencies are VERY present and not to believe the malarkey and lies being spread. They also said the focus on MAGA lies is diverting attention from getting word out about all the scammers raising funds fraudulently.

  5. Miranda says:

Here’s a fun little fact: in 2019, during TRUMP’S presidency, $38 million was diverted from FEMA to ICE. So, yeah. Projection as usual.

I am loving how Biden is letting his “fuck it” flag fly in the last few months of his political career.

    • Truthiness says:

+1 Since Puerto Rico votes blue, Trump had no intention of helping them after they got hit. 2975 died, they didn’t have power for weeks and weeks. That’s nearly the death toll of 9/11 ffs.

  6. Anonymous says:

Are the people impacted by these storms who follow Trump (because much of the states being impacted are Trump country) going to see the light that he is a dangerous, dangerous liar who has never actually cared about them? These are their lives he is playing with without a thought for them. It’s inhuman and disgusting.

    • Chrissy says:

Unfortunately, for some of them, he is their messiah, and they don’t care how it impacts them. So crazy how people can’t through all the BS!

    • UpIn Toronto says:

They absolutely will NOT. Anyone amongst them who supports Trump didn’t realize how unhinged and dangerous he and his “advice” were during a deadly pandemic…how could we actually hope these people have critical thinking skills NOW?!

This whole thing is giving me flashbacks to COVID and the misinformation around that during the Trump white house

      NO MORE TRUMP PLEASE

  7. sueinorleans says:

I am so glad Biden has HAD IT with Trump and is taking no prisoners! I know the mainstream media also, rightly, comes in for a lot of criticism for how they cover Trump but the news I’ve been following in the last few days has been crystal clear about Trump and his misinformation. They aren’t pussyfooting around. Makes a nice change!

I live in NC (not Western NC) and I know someone taking supplies to that affected area and he said it was like a convoy of trucks on the road going toward the disaster area. With supplies!!!!

These people are awful with what they are doing.

    • Silver Birch says:

I live in Asheville, and FEMA is here in a big way. Federal, state, county, and city responses have all been phenomenal under very difficult circumstances.

      • Lady D says:

It must have been a terrifying and heartbreaking experience living in Asheville the past few days, Silver Birch. I couldn’t imagine going through such a nightmare and then having to face inexplicable flooding on top of it. It must have felt like living in the Twilight Zone.

      • IdlesAtCranky says:

        Hey, Silver Birch –

Just seeing that someone from Asheville has the ability and time to be here, online, commenting on CB, is so heartening! It really gave me a sense of relief, because we’ve all heard what a crazy nightmare hit y’all out of the blue.

Also really glad to hear more confirmation from folks on the ground that the various government organizations are there & doing the job we pay them for.

Be well, stay safe, thanks for getting the good word out! 💛🌼🌿

    • Tuesday says:

I’m also in NC. I saw a convoy heading west on Sunday. Tried to get a photo but I was the driver.

    • lucy2 says:

Our local fire dept. arranged for community donations to be flown down to NC. We went through Sandy in a big way here, these people know how to manage this sort of thing, and had contacts and logistics in NC all worked out, well planned and organized.
Some dipshit here kept commenting that they’re going to get turned away, FEMA was going to steal the supplies and not distribute them, and that everything was going to help immigrants. FFS. Either help or shut up.
You can’t argue with stupid, and willfully uninformed. This lot has thrown their brain out the window to follow a charlatan, and will believe his nonsense until their last breath, because they can’t fathom admitting they were wrong.

  9. Lightpurplei says:

Who was the reporter who decided to waste the time of the President of the United States during a disaster briefing with questions about a crazed private citizen who has no authority and no involvement in responding to that disaster? President Biden has far more issues to concern himself with than dealing with that attention craving nut case

    • Brassy Rebel says:

It’s maddening that they keep asking the president and vice president to explain all of this irrational behavior from Trump and MAGA.

  10. Brassy Rebel says:

I just listened to a clip of a man speaking with Dan Abrams on his radio show, telling him about his father in law in Asheville who will not ask FEMA for help even though his home is destroyed and he has no food. The man said his fil absolutely believes no one but Trump and is impervious to all attempts to reason with him. His fil is like a cult member, he said. And the family doesn’t know what to do to help him. Cult deprogramming will be a growth industry if the Trump era ever ends. In the meantime, this is all just tragic.

      I can’t imagine.
My dad is a lifelong Republican, and as he’s gotten older, he’s fallen into the Faux News disinformation loop. I think he’s also got a bit cognitive decline, and I wonder if it’s a chicken or the egg situation, but thank God, he’s not THAT bad. Certain things he’s totally sane on, like covid, vaccines, evacuating for hurricanes, etc, but other stuff I’ve given up.
