Cate Blanchett wore Stella McCartney & a giant bird necklace to ‘Disclaimer’ premiere

Cate Blanchett attended the BFI London Film Festival last night for the big premiere of Disclaimer. Disclaimer isn’t a film, it’s a limited series on AppleTV+, directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Reviews are mixed, but I’ll get to that in a moment. First, let’s talk about Cate’s outfit here. She wore a Stella McCartney suit, which I really liked from the waist up. The trousers are… eh. They look like parachute pants! The cut and the fabric look cheap. But let’s talk about Cate’s insane necklace. It’s a custom piece by 886 by Royal Mint. It’s a big bird!! A big, gold bird. Would you wear a giant gold bird necklace?

Honestly, when I saw the trailer for Disclaimer, I thought it looked really good – it’s a drama about a successful woman (Blanchett) who has some really dark secrets in her past and those secrets are exposed by Kevin Kline’s character. I read this Daily Beast review/summary (with spoilers) and I’m still going to watch it, although I’m prepared to have mixed feelings.

Cate’s been promoting Disclaimer in London, and in one of her junket interviews, she was asked about Prince William. She’s known William for years, she sat with him at the BAFTAs this year, and she’s some kind of celebrity ambassador for Earthshot. Cate was very nice about him, saying: “I think what Prince William is doing with the Earthshot Prize is exceptional, and really, we need those islands of hope, there are amazing minds and spirits coming up with climate solutions. We just need action.”

She put a bird on it!

It’s a daring look and I’m feeling it. She’s such a classic, timeless beauty.

Up until a few months ago I thought even her most daring fashion choices were so interesting. I realize I don’t like Cate the way I used to. Her full throttle support of Prince of Wails and defense of Allan and Polanski just irks me. I’m sick of folks who defend or take up for assholes.

I was so disappointed and eventually done with CB after she continued to work with and defend Woody Allen to the end, and then Roman Polanski too. Her support of William is just more of the same. She’s never met a powerful but terrible white man she wouldn’t defend.

Same. I might check out the series; I’m non committal about that. But she has been ON the wrong side of history on so many things that I don’t want to hear from her.

That came from a weather vane.

Stella McCartney seems like a lovely and funny person. But she should never have risen to the level she did in the fashion world. Her designs are hideous, sorry not sorry. Nepo Baby prime example.

      Agreed!

    • Josephine says:

Agree on the level of success being deeply undeserving. It’s not a terrible suit, but it’s a black suit with a single interesting feature, the pants, and they are done poorly. She never flatters a woman’s body.

She designed Meghans wedding reception dress, white halter, fit like a glove and very flattering.

That bird looks like a big Christmas decoration from Dollar Tree, sorry.
And I dislike those parachute pants on everyone.
Blanchett lost me with her WA + Roman P. pro stance. Done.

Kevin Kline needs to make a comedy.
He was the best part of A Fish Called Wanda.

Hard.Pass. on Sasha BC from me also. Ali G was decades ago, last time I found him funny.
