Queen Camilla pulled out of attending the Royal Variety show at the last minute

Queen Camilla did three big events last week – she attended the diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday evening, she received an honorary doctorate on Wednesday, and on Thursday, she hosted an event for the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition. So, three days in a row, she had events. The flurry of activity came after Camilla skipped all of the Remembrance events earlier in the month, as well as canceling and postponing other, non-Remembrance events. A “chest infection” was cited and Buckingham Palace tried to strike the balance between “she’s really sick” and “but she’ll be okay.” Well, after three days of work, Camilla said no mas. She pulled out of her appearance at the Royal Variety show, which she was supposed to attend with King Charles on Friday. She pulled out just a few hours before the event.

Queen Camilla has canceled her appearance at a major event in the royal calendar, as she continues to suffer the lingering effects of a chest infection. Camilla skipped Remembrance Sunday events in London ten days ago, and—despite attending some engagements this week—Buckingham Palace said Friday the 77-year old would not attend this evening’s Royal Variety Performance, an iconic set-piece of the royal festive calendar which sees the royals attend a central London theatre for a program of popular entertainment.

Over three weeks since picking up an illness shortly after an overseas tour that culminated in a sojourn at an alternative healing clinic in India, Camilla is still unwell with what sources describe as a “nasty bug” and “lingering post-viral symptoms” of a chest infection.

A palace spokesperson and an official source sought to play down the severity of the queen’s condition. The spokesperson said: “Following a recent chest infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritize sufficient rest.”

The source said that due to the “lateness” of the event, Camilla had “sensibly decided to heed medical advice that there is a risk when recovering patients overstretch themselves.”

The palace source said the “nasty bug” had left the queen—who reportedly smoked 10 cigarettes a day until 2001, when she quit the habit—feeling “a little under the weather.”

The source said the queen was “naturally disappointed to miss the evening’s entertainments, and sends her sincere apologies to all those involved, but is a great believer that the show must go on. She hopes to be back to full strength and regular public duties very soon.”

[From The Daily Beast]

I hadn’t been sick in a few years before I got a cold in September. I was surprised by how long that f–king cold lingered. In Camilla’s case, she’s in her 70s and she’s probably pretty pickled most of the time, and she had just returned from a long international journey. That being said, she looked and seemed fine earlier in the week. Is something going on? Another health-related conspiracy? I honestly don’t know. I will say this though – Charles did not look well at the Royal Variety show (photos below). He was all hunched over and really did look quite sick. I wonder why he didn’t cancel too, and make someone else go in his place. Maybe no one else was available – Sophie, Edward, Anne, Peggington, Waity? Were they all busy on a Friday night?

OMG! Charles has “the look.” I saw it in my grandparents before they passed. the empty-shell look like all the ife nergy is being sapped from his body. Charles does not look good at all and I am now certain, based on what I see, that he isnt long for this world. And his hands are just pink anymore, they are purple, just like his mother’s before her death.

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, he looks more 96 than 76.

    • Tarte Au Citron says:

2-3 years tops, IMHO. I don’t particularly like him, but it is sad to see it all the same.

      • AlexandraS says:

As these things go, and whether you want to put stock in it, Nostradums, who predicted the month/year in which the Queen would die, says Charles wont make it to 2025.

    • Kelly says:

He looks much worse than my mom did before she died. He’s had a better life than he deserved. Good riddance, in advance.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

If Camilla has had a virus, they may be trying to keep her away from her husband who looks like a walking cadaver.

      • AlexandraS says:

Yeah, his treatment of Diana and his elevation of Camilla, plus his defiance of the Queen’s wish to Camilla to be known ONLY as “Queen Consort” and taking away Frogmore from Harry/Meghan, well, you know where Im going with this. I wont miss this dude.

    • Teddy says:

I know just what you’re talking about with ‘the look’ and I see it too. Charles looks alarmingly rough in those shots. I’m no fan but I’m sorry he is that sick.

    • Friendly Crow says:

“Post viral symptoms/ syndrome” is what they called long covid before they called it long covid.

Not saying she has long covid – just that that’s borrowed medical jargon that’s – to a certain extent- in the public domain and has a certain nebulous but still somewhat serious significance.

If she did just have covid and has been around Charles …. Well. He looks like that last time he had it and was being a disease vector by glad handing and not masking while symptomatic. That on top of cancer? His homeopath is gonna have a rough time of it.

      • AlexandraS says:

Camilla wasnt sick, she is lazy. She had done three events that week and decided to stay home.

    • Hypocrisy says:

His decline has been rapid this past year, especially in the last few months. I’ve always thought his cancer/illness was terminal and his time as the Monarch will be extremely short. You’re right he looks a lot like my parents did at the end and both of them died before 80.

    • Kaye says:

I don’t disagree with anything you said, AlexandraS, but Charles’ hands have been purple for a long time.

  2. Tessa says:

Charles is wearing makeup but it only calls attention to his looking ill

  3. Mads says:

Charles looks absolutely awful in the pictures taken at the Royal Variety Performance and I’m wondering if the briefings about him going on a tour of India next year is a deliberate ploy to convince the plebs that he’s not as ill as recent photos suggest.

    • Kingston says:

      @MADS
They’re referencing India from now to set the natrative & prime the plebs into believing tht it will be a normal “royal tour” when in fact it will be cover for both of them to undergo a 7-10 day stay at their favorite “alternative healing clinic” in India.

If they do go to India on a pretentious “royal tour,” I’m betting it will be 2 days of being seen with VIPs & at events, followed by dead silence from the palace regarding their whereabouts & schedule for returning home.

      • Alwyn says:

Why would they need to stage a royal tour? They take vacations all the time and just as Camilla did on the Australia tour, announce that you’re extending your stay and leave it at that. At this point no one is really going to begrudge a dying king his last chance at ‘healing’.

  4. Alwyn says:

In olden days a frail and feeble king would have been an easy target for an ambitious heir eager to take the throne. Poisoned or drowned in the bath, ascension would have been quick. Fortunately, Charles has no such heir but from the looks of him, he’s not long for this earth.

  5. somebody says:

Phil got to retire to Wood Farm. QE got trotted out up to the last minute while she was dying of cancer. Charles was party to that. He is getting it back now and Cam and Kate are trying to follow the Phil way, only earlier than he did.

    • Nic919 says:

That’s the difference between the monarch and the consort. Charles isn’t complaining about it. William the heir is the one not pulling in a fraction of the work compared to his elderly aunt and father.

  6. Eurydice says:

    Dropping like flies…

  7. Nanea says:

Queen Side Piece suffers from intermittent chest infection, the way FakeyKatie Missington has intermittent somethingorother.

They have form, these people, not even doing the bare minimum but still cashing huge checks.

    • Oh I so agree with you!! Seems to come and go at will just like Cants problem.

    • WaterDragon says:

I don’t believe for a minute that Camilla only smoked 10 cigarettes a day until 2001. She has the look of someone who smoked 2-3 packs a day for decades.

      • Felicity Fox says:

Given her history of smoking, I do wonder if BP would say “a chest infection” rather than lung cancer. I hate to consider such a thing, but BP has been dishonest so it’s hard to believe what information they release. Truth will out.

      • fishface says:

Same thought here. As a former smoker, I know you don’t get skin and teeth like that from 10 ciggies a day.

    • MY3CENTS says:

Yup. The one looking like the walking dead in that family is doing the most engagements.

  8. Brassy Rebel says:

A chest infection? Nonsense! She’s in the bag half the time and half in the bag the rest of the time.

  9. Amy Bee says:

Charles is getting that hunch that his mother had when she got old.

  10. Libra says:

The red rimmed eyes and the healing sores on lips do not look like a man who needs to go on royal tours. Put him to bed and let him rest. The longer he can stay alive means William will not have a coronation anytime soon ; coronation with small “c” like royal with a small “r” .

    • Jaded says:

Yeah, the apparent eye issues and mouth sores are a common reaction to chemo. My eyes are a bit of a hot mess right now as a result, but at least I haven’t experienced the mouth and lip sores. Welp, many of us predicted the monarchy would go down the toilet once QEII fell off her perch.

  11. Elaine says:

Jesus. Looks like an undertaker did an incomplete job on him. Yikes!

  12. Talie says:

I think they are all in state of looking and feeling ill most of the time. Charles – it’s obvious. Kate – she clearly needs time in between to get herself worked up and looking good to attend anything. Camilla – she smoked and may still, plus the drinks combined with age, any illness is going to linger. William just looks like he lost a lot of weight in the past year. I don’t know…I do think the one article from Paula Froelich was deeply accurate about the health of the family not being good.

  13. Lady Digby says:

Yikes KC does look old and vulnerable here. I wonder how worried the rest of the royals and the courtiers are about his health and the prospect of wobbly Willy taking over, either as regent and then king?

  14. Nic919 says:

Camilla was a heavy smoker for years and that affects your lung health especially once you are in your 70s. So it isn’t a surprising that the chest infection is hard to beat. I know the royals lie about things but this case seems pretty realistic. It is far more credible than Kate’s good days and bad days bs.

    • sunnyside up says:

      I agree.

    • Steph says:

If you live a somewhat hard/normal life, it doesn’t take until your 70s. I’ve been a heavy smoker since my teens. I’m forty and lung congestion lingers for weeks. I won’t have any other symptom of being sick expect that. I think for non smokers, the colds I get would be completely asymptomatic. Camilla is lucky that’s she’s always had the best of the best in life. The lack of other stresses on her body over the years is making new
That being said, I don’t believe she has a infection. I think she’s dealing with chronic pain. And she can’t hide that

  15. Giddy says:

The man is clearly ill. How will the monarchy survive lazy Will and his equally lazy wife? Will Peggy try to sideline Waity? She might finally have access to all the tiaras and sparkles in the land, but will her hubby/king let her go anywhere? It will be interesting and from Chuck’s appearance could be very soon.

  16. Gabby says:

Chuckles knows his last day is hurtling toward him at warp speed.

I think he alternates between denial [let’s announce a tour to India] and anger [all the Prince Andrew briefing] about the reign he waited 70 years for being stolen out from under him.

So there’s no way he wanted any younger and healthier RF members to take his place or join him at Royal Variety. He’s going to be stubborn and show up to as many events as he can because it’s all just so unfair. This will of course shorten his remaining time, but he’s kind of a dumbass.

  17. samipup says:

Kindof off topic, but if he is getting chemo, he should be avoiding public places and wearing a mask.

    • Chrissy says:

He’s someone who resisted wearing masks all through the.Covid crisis. No way he‘ll do so now. He probably thinks his exalted status will protect him, the fool!

    • Josephine says:

Maybe he’s beyond chemo. Then again, appearance is everything to these people so he could just be too dense to follow medical advice.

  18. Truthiness says:

Charles should be staying home for his health, he’s starting to look like grim death itself. But I think Charles wants to squeeze every drop out of his reign, however short it is. He is finally the #1 royal, THE star, and he’s like a diva wanting all eyes on him. He waited 50 years and now he doesn’t want to give up the stage until death comes for him.

  19. Fastgran50 says:

Maybe she is having a touch of the vapours about tonight’s Channel4 program. Camilla The Wicked Stepmother. This has been postponed a few times so it’s probably been cleaned up a bit. I shall be watching tonight.

  20. tamsin says:

So all four principals in the Windsor clan are in some form of bad health or addiction. This just does not bode well for the future of the monarchy with the Windsors. I don’t think the sovereign has to be loved, but at least liked and respected. I don’t see either of those feelings directed at Charles or William at all. The corrupt press is the only thing between them and indifference or active dislike. That leaves only those who benefit from the status quo or are brainwashed into accepting the status quo.

  21. wolfmamma says:

I saw the Nostradamus reference .. interesting as he predicted a ginger man on the throne ….

  22. Libra says:

That ginger reference was debunked regardin g Harry, maybe some other ginger. In order for Harry to be king, William and all 3 children will have to be eliminated. Not likely.

  23. Sharon says:

I hate it when people talking about someone who may or maynot being on their deathbed. GOD only knows when he will go to heaven. Prince William has been doing a lot of appearances. You know that has been hard on him with both his dad and his wife. He is trying his best to keep things going. Don’t forget that the monarch has been slimmed down.

  24. Fastgran50 says:

Watched channel 4 documentary last night. I thought as it was called Camilla wicked stepmother, it would be good. Boy was I disappointed they were singing the praises of her and saying she has overcome such adversity and won the love of the people. As for Harry they said he was delusional about Camilla. One thing that did come out, was when Harry was young they were saying he was taking drugs so Charles took his to a rehab centre. This was rubbish Harry had visited the rehab centre himself but Charles had spun the story to make him look like a caring father worrying about his wayward son. Talk about throwing your family under the bus.
