Us Weekly: Prince William & King Charles are in the middle of a big ‘power struggle’

This is Us Weekly’s new cover story: “Inside the power struggle between Charles and William.” Finally! More of a focus on how dysfunctional this relationship is between the king and his heir. I tend to believe Charles and William only agree on one thing: neither of them wants Prince Harry around, and they both know how badly the Sussexit damaged the monarchy long-term. But beyond that, Charles and William are at each other’s throats constantly. Charles and Camilla regularly outmaneuver William, and William absolutely refuses to get off his lazy ass and step up into the kind of “heir work” which Charles did for decades. When he was in Cape Town this month, Prince William gave several interviews about how he’ll do everything differently when he’s king, and those interviews did not go over well anywhere. There’s also been a lot of talk about the real state of Charles’s health, and how quickly William might find himself on the throne. All of that is part of Us Weekly’s cover story – some highlights:

The dynamics between Charles & William have shifted: William, 42, has done an admirable job of keeping calm and carrying on, and Charles, 76, is especially grateful. In many ways, the king and his heir are closer than ever — but their relationship has also become significantly more complicated as tension over William’s approaching succession builds. “The dynamics have shifted,” one source shares in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “Charles has wanted to be the monarch for decades,” adds a second source. “Even though he’s battling cancer, he’s not letting that get in the way of his desire to be successful on the throne or a dynamic leader.” William, meanwhile, “is preparing behind the scenes for when his ascension happens,” continues the second source. “Like his father, he takes being a success in the royal role very seriously.”

There are already plans for Charles’s funeral: “The Palace sprung into action [after Charles’s cancer diagnosis],” the source says, noting that advisors’ plans for William have been discussed with the future king. “William and his team have agreed on what they will focus on at the start of his reign and funeral plans for his father.” The third source agrees there is some tiptoeing around plans for succession directly with Charles. “He does not feel comfortable speaking [about it] at length, so nothing more than is needed is brought up to him,” says the source.

A small-r royalty: According to the third source, William is ready to bring “new, younger energy” to the Crown. Adds the first source: “Modern times call for a modern monarchy, and William has been active in getting that together.” He’ll take on fewer patronages but focus more on the issues most important to him and Kate — like the environment, mental health and homelessness. “The king had a traditional approach to patronages, accumulating over 500 of them,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams tells Us. “In contrast, William is determined, as he sees it, to make a real difference and to do this in a way that will give him contemporary appeal. He and [Kate] are attached to far fewer charities but do more for the ones they have links with.”

Jealousy: The second source also claims there’s some jealousy between Charles and William over the younger royal’s popularity. The current Prince of Wales is often compared to his mother, the late Princess Diana, who was famously called “the people’s princess.” When William is publicly hailed for his accomplishments, his beloved mom usually gets the credit. The source says that while Charles and William “are close,” they are “rivals when it comes to work,” noting that Charles’ envy is “similar to how he felt about Diana.” While the first source insists Charles “doesn’t feel sidelined” and is “more proud than anything,” the monarch “does feel the public anticipation for William’s future role.”

William’s musical tastes: Royal expert Robert Hardman, author of the biography Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, says some of the differences are purely generational. “The king likes sitting there writing his letters with Wagner playing in the background, and Prince William likes AC/DC and the Chemical Brothers,” he tells Us. “There’s just a different way of coming at it.”

Separate courts. “William is very stubborn and private. He keeps his movements and calendar away from Charles’ team to such an extent that he won’t listen to anyone or take guidance from [his father] or his team,” says the second source. “He keeps things very locked down and separate.” Fitzwilliams notes that Charles had hoped William would take on some of his prized patronages, “but William is intent on being his own man.”

Queen Camilla wants Charles to hang on as long as possible: The first source says she wants her husband to hold on to the reins for as long as possible. “She loves her responsibilities,” says the source. “Her whole life, she has always wanted to be queen, so she doesn’t want to let it go so fast.” The source notes Camilla is particularly hesitant to pass on her duties to Kate. “They’ve always had a tense relationship.”

Royal promotions & demotions: There have also been whispers that William may promote Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The couple have become more visible since Charles’ health issues began. Hardman says Camilla would likely “carry on with a public role but obviously within a different capacity.” Adds the first source: “Camilla’s role in the monarchy may be reevaluated.” As for Prince Harry, 40, who, along with his wife, Meghan Markle, 43, has been estranged from William and Charles since early 2020, the source says that while there’s a “mutual desire” for a reconciliation between him and Charles, “William is less inclined to bring Harry back into the royal fold.”

The change will happen soon: “For the most part, Charles is doing well,” adds the source. “But there are still some concerns, and he knows his reign will be up soon.” William is essentially waiting in the wings. “William and Kate have been preparing for this for many years,” says the third source, with the first source noting that Kate is “realistic and supportive of William’s future.” Adds the third source: “They both feel comfortable stepping into greater roles — and [are confident] William can provide a modern way of ruling that everyone will see as a breath of fresh air.”

[From Us Weekly]

Interesting that someone finally admits that there’s tension between Camilla and Kate. The tension is, Camilla can dog-walk Kate at any moment and Kate knows that. That’s why Kate has seemingly been banned from wearing tiaras, that’s why Kate is seemingly being phased out (although I think that’s more to do with William and Charles). As for the tension between king and heir… two toxic, jealous, short-sighted, petty, problematic men. I do think Charles is doing poorly, but I also think William wants everyone to believe that he’ll be king within the next year. William only wants power to lord it over his brother though – William is absolutely too stupid and lazy to understand any part of how his life will dramatically change.

  1. Lady Digby says:

Anybody know if Will has ever worked full-time at any stage of his life? Because gold standard for his gran and dad is 2 Royal tours and 500 engagements per year?

    • Megan says:

When William becomes king, the only thing that will change in his life is his residence and title. He will still be the selfish, lazy, entitled, racist that he has always been.

  2. Laura D says:

“Her whole life, she has always wanted to be queen, so she doesn’t want to let it go so fast.”

Wow! Do they realise what they’ve said here? We’ve had years of denials about Camilla wanting to be queen and being happy to “just” support KCIII. Yet that one sentence has confirmed everything Harry said about her! The woman is not interested about the “responsibilities” of being queen she just enjoys the power.

    • bisynaptic says:

      🎯

    • Jais says:

Right?? Finally admitting that she’s always wanted to be queen. As opposed to just wanting to support Charles in whatever title she was given.

    • Mrs. Smith says:

I gasped at that! For forty years, Cams has insisted she had zero interest in being Queen. All she ever wanted was to be with Charles. And now this sly revelation?? My prediction is that she will be “Angela Kelly’d” the minute W takes over.

    • Eurydice says:

Of course, she’s wanted to be queen. You don’t work that hard to snare some rando from the aristo set.

    • Monika says:

Yep! Also Camilla wants to hang on (to her power) as long as possible. Camilla knows what is coming at her her when Willi is King.

      • Debbie says:

Far be it for me to give any advice to William and his teeth, but all I can say is frisk that dame before she leaves the palace for the last time. Frisk that Camilla, if I’m any judge of smirks.

    • KC says:

They are nothing but consistent in talking through both sides of their faces. I bet William doesn’t want to “Angela Kelly” her but toss her out like his Uncle Charles did to Raine Spencer.

    • Tessa says:

Yes the spin was she “never wanted anything.”

    • Steph says:

      @laurad I caught that too!

Alot of you are saying pegs is going to kick her out and I can’t wait. She might lose her crown but she won’t lose her media connections. And pegs is too stupid to realize that. Everything is going to come out about him.

      • SarahCS says:

Ooh that will be so much fun!

      • Laura D says:

@Steph – she may have the media connections but, William will be king. He’s been protected his whole life because he’s the heir and that protection will be tripled once he’s king. Also, William is Diana’s son and he could use his connections to remind people how awful she was to his mother. Whatever Camilla “thinks” she has on William I believe he has just as much on her. She’s only got away with as much as she has because she has the protection of KCIII and although I don’t doubt she will try to undermine William I think she’ll be surprised at how quickly doors will close once she’s no longer queen consort. She’s not a blood royal and she’s not that popular it wouldn’t surprise me if she became William’s “scapegoat” to the press when he’s king. However, as much as I’d love to see them tear each other to pieces, realistically I think they’ll both leave the other alone.

    • QuiteContrary says:

That stood out to me, too. So much for the unambitious partner, just doing her duty out of love for her husband.

It was all nonsense: the supposedly great love story of Charles and Camilla; her alleged selflessness; her desire only to serve the country.

Camilla schemed from the beginning to be queen, and wasn’t afraid to cut down anyone who stood in her path: Diana, Harry, Meghan. She tossed away the real love of her life, Andrew Parker Bowles, for the chance at the crown.

      She’s conniving and terrible.

    • Nic919 says:

So basically she is no different than Kate or the Queen mother. They just went about getting the ring in different ways.

      • Convict says:

Queen Mother??? I thought she never wanted George VI and turned him down several times. She was aristocratic and not the least comparable to the grasping Middletons.

      • Nic919 says:

That’s because she wanted David Windsor instead. He was the heir not Albert. It’s also why she hated Wallis Simpson.

She was not a princess like all the royal brides since Victoria either. Their family had a title in Scotland but it was barely a step up from commoner.

      • Dee says:

The Queen Mum turned him down because she wanted his brother Edward who was the heir to the throne. That is why she was so ruthless to Wallace Simpson. It was by accident that she ended up with the King in the end.

      • Convict says:

Ok thanks 🙏 I do recall reading mutterings to that affect. That said, she was still 10 aristo ranks ahead of the lowly Midds!

  3. Caroline says:

He looks so much better clean shaven. But nobody tell him this, let him keep walking around looking like a hobo’s dog.

  4. Blujfly says:

Neither William nor Kate do more for their 8-10 number of patronages than Charles nor Elizabeth did for 500 each. William and Kate cannot even be relied upon to produce a yearly fundraising letter. They are totally inconsistent. They are the typical modern donor, too, convinced somehow that they know more and can do more than just give money to experts.

    • Harla says:

Didn’t several of Kate’s patronages close due to lack of funding? Kate couldn’t be bothered to host a fundraiser or do anything to help keep the doors open. Lazy and ungrateful.

  5. Tessa says:

William is nothing like Diana. He is lazy. He did not “carry on” after his father got sick. Royal Funerals are planned way in advance. William’s funeral is most likely planned also. Camilla then “admits” she always wanted to be Queen, so she apparently wanted to undermine Diana. It also refutes the Spin that she “never wanted anything.”

    • Becks1 says:

I thought it was kind of snarky how they say that most of the credit goes to Diana’ or whatever. Like someone realizes that Wiliam gets a large pass in the public’s eye because of remaining sentiment for his mother, not because of his own work.

  6. SarahLee says:

I’m at a loss for what William thinks he could do to Harry other than ban him from the UK. Harry is independently wealthy, successful, happy, and doing just fine. My guess is he would be sad to be banned from the UK, but life would go on.

    • Blujfly says:

Formally, He can’t even really do that. Harry isn’t an American citizen so it would leave him stateless. It would take incredible controversial efforts.

      • sunnyside up says:

William will never have that sort of power anyway, the Monarch doesn’t have any real power. His job is to do the ceremony and attract the tourists.

    • s808 says:

I wonder what will happen when he becomes King and finds he doesn’t feel any better in comparison to Harry. I’m sure he think becoming King will give him the leverage and confidence he’s been looking for but it won’t because at the end of the day he’s still William and Harry is still Harry. To quote Kendrick Lamar, “All the money, the power, the fame won’t make William go away”

    • Monika says:

I am not sure what Willi can do beside of “subbing” Harry by not inviting Harry to his coronation. That will be seen as very pity.

Willi and Charles are afraid of Harry because Harry shows that you can do the same work and have the same impact outside the royal family. Royalists always talk about the royal family’s “soft power” and claim you only can have influence inside the fold of the royal family and here is Harry proving them that it can be done outside of the royal family.

    • anotherlily says:

Harry cannot be banned from the UK by the King or the government.

  7. somebody says:

Funny when you consider that anyone can point to some of Charles’ initiatives that have made an impact, but nothing of Will’s or Kate’s. Even the ES hasn’t made a big splash with all the money they are supposedly giving away. How do you promote someone within a hereditary system? Is this just code for E&S will be doing all the work? And that will modernize how?

  8. Anna says:

“she has always wanted to be queen” interesting, I thought Camilla’s whole thing was that she didn’t want to be queen? Are we finally being honest about things now?

  9. Leesa says:

Even US Weekly could not bear to put that terrible beard on their cover. 😂

  10. bisynaptic says:

In many ways, the king and his heir are closer than ever — but their relationship has also become significantly more complicated as they continually stab each other, at close range.

  11. Gabby says:

In one corner, we have a dying king who is much sicker than he will admit. In the other corner, we have a Complete Idiot heir who won’t know the first thing to do with the monarchy when it falls into his lap.

My favorite disclosure from this article is William locking down his schedule away from Charles’s staff. That has really got to chap Charles’ hide. Like they can’t see that it’s pages and pages of blank dates with nothing scheduled. The UK should be prepared to see very little of Slumlord Peg when he’s king. He’s going to spend most of his time hiding.

I am so glad Harry escaped from this.

    • ML says:

Gabby, That jumped out at me, too. William didn’t just wake up one day and decide to hide his dchedule from his dad. There is definitely an interesting story behind why William distrusts him. And it means that William is trying to lock down leaks.

There was that slumlord story about Charles (and William…and technically Elizabeth who went unmentioned). If William is locking down info from KC, what is he feeding to the Rota to keep them off his back? And what about Charles and the RR?

      • SarahCS says:

I’m in two minds. Is it leaks or is he just mega sqyuirrely and doesn’t want anyone to know what he’s doing (sweet FA mostly).

      • Magdalena says:

William is lazy. He’s not locking down leaks. He’s trying to make sure that his ailing father’s staff can’t ask him to do anything in place of his father, the way Charles used to stand in for his mother before he took over. So all these reports of William “stepping up to the plate” are flat out lies by all of the reporters who have been covering him. Charles is clearly not well, yet his heir, who is very desperate to take over and wants everyone to give him excess deference as “the future king” is refusing to work, including doing the expected heir-job of representing his father at important events.

If Charles’ staff don’t know when William is free (and I bet they know full well that he is nearly always free), then they can’t get him to do engagements that Charles is unable to do.

This just goes to show as well that all that stuff the reporters printed about royals “coordinating schedules” etc. is just baloney. The jealous royals and their staff only used this to stifle H+M and their work, i.e., they could get H to do a lot of the work while simultaneously preventing them from working on their own projects. Just goes to remind people that “protocol” only became a beating stick once a certain accomplished lady came on the scene.

    • Jais says:

Same! I thought they were supposed to coordinate their schedules so as not to overlap. How is that possible if William is keeping his schedule so carefully guarded? I can see this driving Charles crazy.

      • Blujfly says:

William and Kate have had many engagements announced after engagements for Camilla and Charles that conflicted and gone through with them and taking the press from those two. Kate just did it last year at the Chelsea Flower Show. Harry writes in spare about Charles’ people trying to have Kate cancel a tennis related engagement back in 2014/15 and then ordered her not to be photographed with a racket, because the picture would take the front page.

    • HuffnPuff says:

They did Harry a favor by kicking him out but he would definitely make the better king. The Wails’ are clearly just in it for the money, luxury and fame. Nothing more. I don’t know why they pretend otherwise. They waste a lot of money and other people’s time with their false starts.

    • anotherlily says:

Prostate cancer has a high survival rate. Around 80% survive for 10 years or longer. Prince Philip had prostate cancer and heart problems and lived to 99. So I’m not convinced by stories of William’s impending accession.

Whatever is wrong with William, and there is definitely something seriously wrong, I think it is linked more to Kate and the Middletons than to Charles.

      • Camomile says:

They’ve explicitly said it’s not prostate cancer. It was found during a procedure for his prostate

  12. HeatherC says:

The example of the generational differences is just stupid. Charles listens to Wagner because he’s a boomer and William listens to AC/DC because he’s a Millennial?

It’s just a reminder of how sheltered Charles is, while letting William off the hook (I seriously doubt he listens to metal, -maybe- EDM)

The Boomers, for all the hilarious memes, also gave the world some of the best music…The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Woodstock line up, early punk, Motown, etc. Listening to Wagner is not indicative of him being a “boomer” the millennial wants to fight with.

I have no idea why I fixated on that comment, but my morning rant is over. Off to get some caffeine.

    • Blujfly says:

For all of his many faults, Charles is a big fan of 70s disco pop like The Three Degrees.

    • Robot Dog says:

Billiam probably just puts “Shoot to Thrill” on repeat while he plays helicopter sims on his PS5 and pretends he had Harry’s military career.

He thinks he’s god’s gift to ballroom notoriety, but Billiam’s really just the biggest bald of all.

      • Interested Gawker says:

        😂😂😂

      • Deborah1 says:

@Robot Dog – Charles listening to Wagner and your comment about Willy playing helicopter sims on his PS5 made me think of that scene from the movie Apocalypse Now where the attack helicopters fly to the strains of Wagner’s music. Perhaps Willy plays that when he’s doing his helicopter sims. 😎

      • Convict says:

        Great song 😁

    • Worktowander says:

AC/DC isn’t even millennial music. It’s a boomer band (1973) that bled into elder Gen X. By all rights, it’s Charles’ era.

Charles listens to Wagner instead of AC/DC a) because he thinks he should and b) because he has no rock n’ roll in his soul.

William listens to AC/DC instead of Blink-182 because he thinks it makes him look virile.

      • QuiteContrary says:

The reference to AC/DC made me LOL. So hip. So modern.

      • Hypocrisy says:

AC/DC is a bizarre band just to sit and listen to as an adult.. during my teenage years I loved them, mainly because the music shocked my parents. Now if I listen to them it’s typically at a sports event or the gym, drunk fans love them too.

      • Tessa says:

The Ring Cycle by Wagner is about a cursed ring. Like the ring Diana had.

      • Convict says:

He listens to AC/DC because it reminds him of Diana. They used to listen to Thunderstruck in the car. Roger Federer is also a fan. Greatest band in the world live, but I’m biased.

    • Deborah1 says:

@HeatherC – Wagner was also a favourite of a certain German dictator. And it’s true we “Boomers” gave the world its best popular music. I seriously doubt Willy is a fan of AC/DC. If they had said Led Zeppelin I might have been more interested. On the other hand, he might be a serious headbanger, which could explain his incandescent rages and erratic behaviour. Diana was a fan of Wham and Duran Duran, which Charles hated.

      • Tarte Au Citron says:

Charles was always a bit of an old fogey with notions of being some high brow intellectual.

This is a man who sneerily dismissed the Live Aid concert in 1985 by saying “My wife made me go to some pop jamboree”. He was 36 years old and plenty of people his age would have enjoyed the line-up.

      • windyriver says:

Interesting if that’s what he really said about Live Aid. Take a look at the history of the Prince’s Trust rock concerts, especially the ones in 1986 and 1987. They benefitted Charles’ Prince’s Trust, and supposedly he selected the acts, at least for those early ones. Some crossover between those who had also performed at Live Aid. No Wagner in sight.

      • BeanieBean says:

This Boomer remembers a spring break from Oregon to SoCal–apx. 17 hours of driving in a ’58Belair with two 8-track tapes blaring (chosen by her brother): Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti & an AC/DC tape. I can see neither Charles nor Billy Boy liking either & I doubt very much it’s a generational thing. And like other posters have noted, Wagner was a favorite of Hitler’s & an awful lot of us Boomers associate The Ride of the Valkyries with helicopters & ‘the smell of napalm in the morning’.

  13. AM says:

Camilla has wanted to be queen “her whole life?” What an absolutely psychotic thought that is.

  14. Catherine says:

I am saying this completely without any shade. Can we talk about how awful William is looking? He is visibly gaunt. Photos add weight. So the fact that he looks gaunt in the photos means in person he looks even worse. What is going on with him? I definitely think his pathological obsession and hatred of Harry is eating away at him. But is it possible that he had some illness that he is hiding.

  15. Belinda says:

Charles like Wagner and William likes AC/DC and The Chemical Brothers……..well, I think that is the biggest hint yet of William’s tastes in more than music……….

  16. jensa says:

“He and [Kate] are attached to far fewer charities but do more for the ones they have links with.”
    They do more???
What complete rubbish. They can barely be arsed to even show up for the very small number of patronages they have.

  17. Giddy says:

My take on this article…first of all no one ever seriously compares William to Diana. She had a son with her warmth, charisma , energy, and ability to touch others, but his name is Harry. Secondly, it’s interesting that the article openly admits that Peg would probably sideline the Sidepiece Queen as soon as possible. But what about Kate? She is barely mentioned except for the hopeful tone that she is ready for her new role and prepared to take on more responsibility. She in no way is ready except for possibly be planning a wardrobe to coordinate with the Royal jewelry collection. And will Peg want her visible anyway? I doubt that we will see much of Kate except for State events that William can’t exclude her from. It will be interesting to watch.

  18. Libra says:

Very slowly but surely the truth is coming out that proves Harry was right all along. “Spare” is the blueprint. More to follow.

  19. MY3CENTS says:

Willy with the small p energy.
    Good luck England.

  20. Alwyn says:

The public anticipation for William’s future role is not positive or optimistic. It was 70 years between ascensions when QEII died. Charles’ coronation was mildly received and his passing will be equally viewed. William has at best another year of play-acting Global Statesman before he is tapped on the shoulder. Since the optics of pageantry have faded, he will be crowned king and very few will care and fewer will even notice. .

    • Lady Digby says:

@Alwyn UK economy is struggling more than Will’s attempt to grow a beard and no one wants to cough up £72 million plus inflation for him to have a big ass coronation. If Will wants to do Everything differently to dad then he can start by paying 100% for his changing of the hat of the coronation!

      • Alwyn says:

His ‘small r’ style should preclude him from displaying excessive grandeur in any form, especially his coronation. Given Kate’s decades-long request for privacy, the entire clan should impose a media blackout and only appear on the balcony when needed. KP is desperate to tag him with something to make him memorable. I suggest William The Recluse. And for Kate, the Unseen Queen.

  21. Eurydice says:

“Modern way of ruling’? The monarchy doesn’t’ rule; it exploits. Unless William is willing to change that, there is no modern.

    • Lady Digby says:

@Eurydice Will plans on continuing to take the money and as many holidays and me time as possible. His definition of modernization is doing as little as possible royal service knowing he can’t be sacked or held to account.

  22. Inge says:

Camilla will be thrown out with the dirty water as soon as Charles is gone.

And interesting re Edward&Sophie no wonder they are sucking up so much.

BTW can someone tell William he isn’t as young as he thinks he is.

  23. Over it says:

William doesn’t want Charles to see blank pages where they should be engagements. As for him and Kate paying more attention to their fewer charities? How is that possible, if those two did any less it would be a black hole of nothing. Cams has always wanted to be queen bee, without the work . Harry told no lies and as soon as wank gets the big chair, he will ship her off to never come back land however he has to thread carefully because she has enough on him and his wifey and is best friends with her media lap dogs to sink wank before he sets sail. And this is why sophie wants to appear to be wank shoulder to cry on and Kate back scratcher. She knows If she doesn’t such up now. She is screwed because she has nothing of her own and neither does her husband. And this is why they resent Meghan so much because Meghan is her own woman with her own money she worked for.

  24. KC says:

Sad when you think what Harry and Diana could do with the same level of wealth, power and prestige as Workshy WIlie has and will have. I can see the right royal changing with the times and leverggrin their peers and Peers into donations, patronages etc and doing some good for the people of England and not just the buildings. I’m not a Socialist, but at some point when you have the depth of a gold purse as these twits, you can do some serious good, life changing and want I am sure would be reputation changing good as well.

Diana was not a perfect person, but she and Harry both have a passion for their projects that transcended the job and their medals. Petrified lazy William does not have a whiff of that.
To give him some credit, he has as much trauma as Harry had over his mother’s death if not more as well as his parents’ divorce, but, man does he need therapy.

    • Tessa says:

No Diana was not “perfect.” nobody is. But she was a darn sight better than the “leftovers.” To me, the leftovers make Diana look perfect. Her only “wrong” to the royals was she complained about Camilla and “outshined” Charles (it was HIS problem he got jealous of his first wife). William I think has a mean streak. He was not nice to his mother at times and after she passed on he called her paranoid.

  25. Truthiness says:

Does US weekly have the sources for this? Camilla admitting aloud she’d always wanted to be queen is a pretty big scoop and contrary to her past statements. 1000% easy to believe though.

  26. Amy Bee says:

At least someone’s finally admitting that Camilla always wanted to be Queen.

  27. Mari in TN says:

    Dear Santa,
When I was a child, my father was mean to my mother. They later divorced and my mother died soon after.

My brother and I could only live at my Granny’s house. Granny’s sister was an alcoholic and we all lived together. We lived off my Granny’s savings until she died.

My Uncle Andy also lived off my Granny’s savings until she died and now he can barely keep himself out of trouble.

My brother left home and won’t talk to us.

Dad, now 74, had to go out and get a job to support the family. And eventually, he will expect me to do the same thing, while my wife refuses to work. What do I do?

    Sincerely,
    Prince William

I think both Charles and Kate are in worse health than they admit. No one has proclaimed Charles free of cancer, and the description of Kate’s health has been incomplete and inconsistent. Charles has always appeared to do his duty, and one of those duties is to ensure his heir is prepared to take the crown. Is William prepared? Is William capable? Was Harry’s original function to do all of William’s work from the sidelines?

  29. Steph says:

Pegs isn’t even a modern prince, how the hell will he be a modern king?

  30. Jaz says:

Last time William was compared to princess diana he still had hair. So at least 2 decades ago.

  31. Nic919 says:

William has a general lack of respect for the monarch that will diminish it when he gets it himself. Charles would not have publicly fought with his mother like this. He might have done his own thing, but he usually kept disagreements under wraps and he had to wait decades. William only has to wait a fraction of that time and he was putting out articles about his coronation as Charles was planning his.

If the heir to the throne can’t respect the monarch, then why would anyone else?

And William is not giving off any new energy. He does less than everyone except for Kate.

Charles also started a press campaign to convince QE2 to abdicate when he was younger. Will is doing what he saw from his own father. Also, don’t forget the book Charles collaborated officially where he criticized his father & mother’s parenthood publicly. Will didn’t even go that far for now.

      • Nic919 says:

William has been critical of his father and parenting for years so even though it is not in one book, it is spread over several books. Harry has the decency to be direct with his issues.

Charles also got shut down with wanting his mother to abdicate when his marriage fell apart. He wasn’t disparaging his mother publicly when she was at her weakest in her last years. That is what William is doing and it’s during a time where there are fewer monarchists than ever. The entire point of that archaic mess is to respect tradition. If William can’t do that then he is blowing up the entire purpose of that system. It’s great for people who don’t like the monarchy, but there is nothing William will do to make it more modern. He would need to do something radical like accept less taxpayer money. He won’t. He acts like simply being Diana’s son, the son who called her paranoid, and being middle aged instead of a senior citizen will somehow modernize this mess.

      • sevenblue says:

@Nic919, didn’t you watch QE2’s last years? Charles got the control of her office, put his own man as her aide. QE2 wasn’t in charge in her last years, Charles was already controlling her and her office. There was no need for her to abdicate then, since Charles did whatever he wanted, then hid behind QE2. Will is leaking about what he thinks of his father to the royal reporters, but Charles put his name under what he said, so it gave credibility to the book. There was even public backlash for the way he talked about QE2.

I don’t like Will or Charles, but Will is doing exactly what Charles did to the current Monarch. Will is just more lazy about it.

      • Nic919 says:

Charles was not publicly announcing things like William as in how he would do everything different compared to his mother. When the meeting happened with Harry no one thought Charles was running everything and at best people were guessing. The closest there was to a shift was when the Queen’s secretary left. Harry was the only one hinting that the Queen wasn’t in control as much as the media was portraying things. Where is the small r Royal interview equivalent from Charles? That is pretty brazen from William.

  32. Lau says:

You wouldn’t know that Camilla has wanted to be queen her entire life given that she avoids most royal “work” like the plague. Just say that she only wanted to destroy Diana and her legacy and be done with it.

  33. Cassie says:

That’s an old photo of William , he looks nothing like that these day’s.
