Angelina Jolie & Zendaya picked up special awards at the Gotham Awards

Here are some photos from the Gotham Awards, which were held last night in New York. This was one of the first awards shows of the season, and judging from the A-listers who came out, it seems like there’s going to be a lot of eagerness this year, a lot of people vying for footholds in the Oscar race. I’m including photos of Angelina Jolie and an LV-clad Zendaya, both of whom received special awards for their performances in Maria and Challengers respectively. Other nominees and attendees included: Nicole Kidman, Adrien Brody (with Georgina Chapman), Jessica Chastain, Elle Fanning, Colman Domingo (who won Best Actor for Sing Sing), Pamela Anderson, a Schiaparelli-clad Saoirse Ronan, and Zoe Kravitz.

The Gotham Awards went for gender-neutral categories, and like every awards show which experiments with gender-neutral categories, the cisgender men took home all of the awards. I don’t know what the answer is to “should gender-neutral categories be the norm,” but in practice, in the real world, whenever they run that experiment, the men always win. It sucks. Anora was supposed to pick up some major awards, but they left empty-handed. A Different Man won best feature, beating out Anora, Babygirl, Challengers and Nickel Boys. Nickel Boys won breakthrough performer (Brandon Wilson) and best director. Sing Sing won two acting awards, for Colman Domingo and Clarence Maclin.

Angelina looks amazing. It feels like she’s hitting a whole new level of confidence and peace and she looks fantastic as a result.

  3. Nanea says:

There’s no such thing as gender neutral until we have at least gender parity.

Meanwhile the guys pat themselves on their backs because the concept of gender neutrality sounds great.

Congrats to all nominees who didn’t win because of *female*

I’m so happy Danielle Goldberg and Saoirse met. Their work together is doing wonders. I would’ve never expected Saoirse to wear something like that before.

Everyone here looks great, but (as almost always) Zendaya is a standout – her whole look is stunning. I really like Saoirse’s dress too. Angelina looks lovely but her dress (under the cape) seems too informal for this event.

Zendaya rules the red carpet as always. She has so much presence and beauty!
I love the color of Elle’s dress but not the sheer skirt.

Zendaya hit the genetic lottery when it comes to perferred body type for modern fashion. Anything just looks so phenomenal on her and her rizz is unstoppable. But her body type makes it all a little easier than most mortals. No doubt though that she is stunning and talented and has the style I hope I would rock if I was a famous actor and not a homesteading hermit wearing joggers and a tank top everyday.

I thought it was Elle Fanning when I first glanced at what apparently is Nicole Kidman. That was jarring. But I quickly figured out that it wasn’t her when I took a good look at the dress and zoomed.

The dress didn’t strike me as Elle’s style at all. She is so ephemeral. Also, is it D&G? Because it looks like a reworking of the D&G Carrie wore at the fashion show at SATC.

  8. Nina says:

I like to imagine that Saoirse and Zendaya crossed paths at the awards and were like ‘omg, I love your dress!’ ‘No, I love YOUR dress!’, just back and forth for a solid fifteen minutes before they made a date to go over to each other’s houses and play dress up in their respective closets.

ICYMI, Angelina’s acceptance speech was lovely.

She is our phoenix, rising from the ashes…a triumph over incredible adversity.

Zendaya is the fashion goddess of this decade.
Zoe looks really good here – best I’ve ever seen her.
Agree w/above comment that Nicole looks like Elle in this pic.
I think Pam swore off makeup a while ago but some light-handed help there would improve her appearance a lot.
