I may be totally off-base here. It may be because I’m reading this Us Weekly story through a hangover haze, and part of my mind is still reeling from last night’s premiere of Lost (should I write about it? I don’t know). But the way I’m reading this, it sounds like Julia Roberts was being a bitch to Jennifer Garner. Not in a major “I’ll cut you” sort of way, it’s just in the subtext, and from my own idea of what Julia sounded like when this exchange occurred. Here’s what happened:
Julia Roberts is eager for her Valentine’s Day co-star Jennifer Garner to regain a few Alias-era curves.
“You are quite slim,” Roberts, 42, joked to Garner at the Beverly Hills press conference for their romantic comedy, in theaters Feb. 12.
“I just finished nursing,” replied Garner, 37 — who welcomed daughter Seraphina in January 2009. “I’ll soon plump up again.”
Quipped Roberts, “We’ll stay tuned for that.”
Garner also poked fun about falling in love with her husband of four years, Ben Affleck. 37.
“Somewhere around the second kid I thought, ‘This is really turning into something!'” she said.
The busy parents (who are also raising Violet, 4) squeeze in romantic moments whenever they can, Garner said.
“You change the definition of romance,” she said. “Romance is romance, but in addition, romance can just be breakfast over the tops of heads and just getting through the day. You’ve got to find a way make that romantic.”

Okay, first off, Jennifer is very thin these days. I could conceivably see how that issue would come up during a press conference, even if the issue was brought up by Julia rather than a journalist. And it seems like Garner answered with one of her no-nonsense answers about breastfeeding, which, by the way, totally makes sense (to me). But then Julia has to interject: “We’ll stay tuned for that.” As if to say, “No one really cares, Jennifer, they only care about me and what I’m thinking, because I’m JULIA HAHA!” Especially since Julia (it seems) started the whole “You are too thin” conversation. Am I projecting? CB thinks Julia is just joking around, but the whole exchange just came across as bitchy on Julia’s part. But I am very hungover. Lost was so good!
If Garner is still a client of Rachel Zoe then there’s cause for concern.
Roberts sometimes is about as subtle as a dead fish.
If Julia Roberts isn’t being a bitch to Jennifer Garner, she’ll pulling rank, at least. Something about not wanting to be replaced as “America’s Sweetheart.” Julia should be taking a pick-axe to Sandra Bullock’s head right…about…NOW!

It sounds to me like she’s making a comment about the media. She says “stay tuned” and we all know the media documents every ounce lost and gained by celebs.
With the way the media OBSESSES with even the SLIGHTEST weight gain/loss of a celebrity (ESPECIALLY female), maybe Roberts’ comment was aimed more at the ridiculously intense coverge she is sure to garner (pun intended).
Or maybe she was being a bitch.

Juliet said “IT WORKED” because she was between her two time lines (the one on the island and the one where she is off the island). When Juliet was dying she said “let’s get coffee sometime- we can go Dutch” and I think she was “transitioning” between her other reality (which is how she knew it worked). In that reality, I bet she just met Sawyer and they were going on a date- and I bet we will see that play out later in the season!
It’s hard to know without actually hearing tone of voice, but this doesn’t sound that bitchy to me.
Then again I once met Garner before she was Sydney and she was a bitch to me, so maybe I’m biased.

I was just having a conversation, wondering aloud if Julia Roberts is losing it- she has had some pretty public episodes of erratic and drunken behavior over the last 6-9 months. I wonder what her problem is.

Every woman I know who breast feeds holds on to their weight longer than the ones who don’t so I don’t buy the breast feeding helps me lose weight thing.

I’ve heard the exact opposite – that when you breast feed, you’re burning a ton of calories. And that makes more sense to me than the other way around.
But, I don’t have babies, so I’m speculating.
I think you’re reading way too much into it. I think it’s a funny comment about how the media attacks ppl with their weight, nothing more.

@TG (and Annabelle)… as long as you’re being careful with your diet breastfeeding does take the weight off. I have three kids, that’s the way it worked for me.
I think Roberts’ comment sounds bitchier on paper, it was probably light hearted enough in person, however I have heard she’s a class-A bitch so you never know 🙂
When I saw the heading of this article, I was really curious, because for years I’ve heard people say how bitchy both of them are in real life.
Hard to figure this one without hearing tone of voice, but I’m thinking it was a “ha, ha, I’m joking…but not really” kind of thing.

Lost was awesome. And, re losing weight when you stop breastfeeding – I hope that’s right. I lost a lot after about six months of breastfeeding but have then stopped losing weight – no matter what I do. But my doctor says most women’s bodies hang on to at least a few extra pounds as a safety precaution when you’re breastfeeding, and will let go of that once you stop. I hope she’s right!
Julia Roberts IS a bitch. Everyone likes to hate on Angelina and forget that Julia stole her husband from another woman as well.
I think Julia Roberts, being part of the “Oceans” crowd, is a smart-ass. She starred in “The Mexican” (ugh! bad movie always on cable) with Brad. So, she’s “one of the boys.” Of course, she knows all kinds of hilarious stuff about St. Angie. Because Brad told her a long time ago about things. Thus, Julia feels superior to St. Angie and can laugh in her face.
Not sure about this one… It “sounds” bitchy, but it could have also been misinterpreted (as the written word often is). No doubt Julia must feel threatened to some degree by the younger actresses; this would not be surprising to anyone, would it?
As far as the breastfeeding/weight loss issue, I am gonna go crazy if I hear this same excuse spewed by another celeb. Let me be clear: Jennifer Garner is full of sh!t! I have nursed four children and I’ve been around dozens and dozens of nursing and non-nursing mothers over the years. I’ve also done a fair amount of research on the subject. Now, I am a “naturally” small framed lady and at 5 ft. 7 in. I typically weigh between 120-130 lbs (I swear 10 lbs. are boobs alone, LOL) and unintentionally got down to 118 lbs. when my son was 9 months old. Nursing burns b/w 300-500 calories a day, so over a span of months it is not inconceivable that one with a speedy metabolism might drop below their average, healthy weight. Yes, there are some women who don’t lose weight while nursing since there are hormones involved and not everyone’s body responds the same way. These women are the exception, IME, not the rule.
That aside, I have never in 12 years of mothering seen a woman in her 30’s get *that* skinny and unhealthy looking by nursing alone. (I live in Cali where many of my friends are yoga/pilates-obsessed, and uber-health conscious.)
Either Ms. Garner is depressed, over-exercising, or getting some chemical assistance to be THIS skinny. I’m banking on some combination of the three, folks. To look as thin as she currently does (in photographs, no less) is SHADY.

My brother ran into Jennifer Garner (almost literally) back in the Fall and he had no clue who she was until after his fiance pointed out it was her. He said even before knowing who she was he had noticed the girl was very skinny, and had very veiny arms.
Women dont get stick thin after stopping nursing. Puhlease I know from experience. Garner is WAYY skinnier than she has ever been. She is subscribing to Hollywood anorexic image. Why is this a suprise, she plumps her lips, etc.
I would have more respect for her if she said yeah i felt fat so I dieted and Im really thin now. She can be as thin as she wants but at least be honest about it and dont say it just happened “naturally.”
Julia strikes me as type who gets along with men but most women are her enemies. Its called I have no ego and am jealous of every other female. This is a women who started up w/ a married men lets not forget.

well I got stick like with veiny arms after stopping breastfeeding. I kept eating more and more but never really managed to stop looking like an insect. SO I started some weight training and changed what I ate to more fat and protein and I look less gaunt. Just saying it was definitely true for me…and I know lots of women who gte very thin after babies. Its more I think a reclaiming of your body and enjoying buying clothes and so on. But some go too far. Anyhoo, she doesn’t look THAT bad to me…and I would believe that bot were rather nasty people.
juiceinla, I think Julia was being snarky because SHE didn’t lose any weight breastfeeding. I know it’s all relative, but a few months ago, she was sporting some very wide hips and more than a bit of belly. I actually thought from the picture I saw (maybe it was a bad angle?) that she was preggo again.
I lost weight fast when I was breastfeeding. I’m sure it’s just a personal thing and there may be some other things going on.
I do NOT think Jennifer is using chemicals to lose weight. She looks stressed, if anything.
Oh, and I really dislike Julia. I wouldn’t put it past her to make a bitchy statement, then laugh about it so we all think it was a joke. She has an annoying habit of always wanting to be the center of attention.
Sumodo, Brad did not tell Julia anything!! Julia Roberts’ husband, Danny Moder was the cameraman on Mr. and Mrs. Smith and HE told Julia what was supposedly going on during the filming. Julia mentioned something about that at some point during the controversy after Brad and Jen divorced. Julia shut up rather quickly when some people pointed out that she had done the same thing that Angelina supposedly did only she had also badmouthed Danny’s ex, along with actually “paying” for Danny (Julia gave his ex $100,000 to file for divorce).
As for Oceans . . . Julia was in the O12 movie. Wasn’t that BEFORE “Smith”? I know “The Mexican” was way before everything (that’s where she snagged Moder). So, I seriously doubt Julia and Brad have had any heart to heart convos about Angelina. Julia and George are friends according to the rags but there has never been anything said about Julia and Brad being friendly with each other (or not being friendly, for that matter).
@Kim, sorry, maybe I spoke incorrectly. I found that breastfeeding (with a sensible diet) dropped some pounds however after breastfeeding I put some weight back on. I don’t think Garner’s weight loss all on breastfeeding.
Maybe Roberts is jealous that Garner is looking so slim and she is not. I don’t like that Lost TV show, I ‘d tried to watch it several times because of the hype, but all that flash back and flash foward is confusing. It got me truly lost.
Julia has been known to be bitchy (remember the ‘A Low Vera’ top she sported while she was ‘dating’ her now husband — while he was still married to his wife Vera?); however, that comment about ‘we’ll stay tuned for that’ simply sounds like a backwards compliment with a little sarcasm thrown in, as in ‘Sure, that’ll happen, bitch — I won’t hold my breath.’ Julia’s a straight talker — maybe self centered, but not always a Total Bitch.

I think you’re getting confused with Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling; Dean was in the process of adopting a child with his wife at the time he met Tori. The rest is history.
