Glen Powell & Timmy Chalamet’s lookalike contest winners were at the Globes

Timothee Chalamet and Glen Powell were both at the Golden Globes on Sunday as best actor in a film nominees; Timmy in the drama category for A Complete Unknown, and Glen for the Netflix comedy Hit Man. These two fine actors have also each recently been the subjects of their own lookalike contests. Well, someone at CBS (the network that aired the Globes) had the brilliant idea to fly the contest winners out to LA for the show to walk the red carpet together. The civilians were spiffed up in suits, given matching signs that read, “I won a lookalike contest and now I’m at the Golden Globes,” and sent out to greet the wilds of a paparazzi step & repeat line. And the boys pulled it off with flying colors! Glen Powell even bumped into them on the red carpet, meeting his lookalike for the first time (in person). From People Mag:

Among all of the stars on the red carpet were two lucky celebrity doppelgängers who made waves at lookalike contests earlier this year: Miles Mitchell, who is the spitting image of A Complete Unknown star Timothee Chalamet, and Maxwell Braunstein, a mirror of Hit Man actor Glen Powell.

The pair of lookalikes posed on the carpet — each donning a classy suit — while holding a sign that read, “I won a lookalike contest and now I’m at the Golden Globes.”

Mitchell first gained attention in October 2024 for his uncanny similarity to Chalamet, 29, at a fan-organized lookalike competition held in New York City’s Washington Park. Hundreds of people gathered to watch dozens of entrants compete for the title — but the event gained even more attention when the Dune actor himself made an appearance.

Even though the competition was quickly shut down by the New York Police Department for the crowd gathering without a permit — and at least one person was detained and issued summonses — Mitchell had the opportunity to hang with Chalamet at a screening event, which he shared in a post to Instagram last month.

“LIFE IS NOT REAL GUYS 😂,” Mitchell captioned the post.

Braunstein also had the chance to meet his celebrity twin. After he was crowned the winner of a Glen Powell, 36, lookalike contest in Austin, Texas — which was judged by Powell’s own mom and saw him beating out hundreds of competitors — the Austin-based physician’s assistant spoke to the Twisters star via FaceTime.

“Blessed that your mother thinks I’m anything like ya,” he told the actor.

By winning the competition, Braunstein scored a $5 prize, a cowboy hat and free queso from Torchy’s for a year. But the most exciting win: a promised cameo in Powell’s next film.

The pair even had the chance to reunite on the Golden Globes red carpet, hugging and snapping a selfie together, shared in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by E! News.

While Mitchell and Braunstein are not up for any awards at the Golden Globes this evening, their respective lookalikes each received a nomination.

The first lookalike contest, the one for Timmy, was the brainchild of YouTuber Anthony Po, and I’ve been ribbing him every chance I got (like right now!) for his having the foresight to draw hundreds of revellers to a park, but forgetting to secure a permit. But even I must give him credit for the fact that this whole phenomenon has continued and spun off in creative ways that have been bouts of pure delight, in an otherwise bleak world. These winners, Miles Mitchell and Maxwell Braunstein, are clearly having a ball with their newfound low-level fame. All you have to do is look at their respective Instagram bios; Mitchell’s reads: “#1 Timothee Chalamet Look-alike,” while Braunstein ups the ante a bit with: “Winner of the Glen Powell Lookalike Contest & Good enough for Glen Powell’s Mom.” So getting to go to the Golden Globes seems like it was the perfect cherry on top for both of them. As for the actual stars, they’re mensches, the pair of them. And I’m presuming the only reason the Jeremy Allen White contest winner didn’t attend was to mirror JAW’s own absence at the ceremony (even though he won!), while Shrek’s lookalike stayed home on account of the ogre not being nominated this year.

Am I old or what? I don’t understand why anyone thinks it’s creative or fascinating or whatever. The whole lookalike thing is a bit dumb to me.

Love these! Especially the wonky prizes.

This is the sort of light silly fun that brings joy to me! What a blast for these two guys too. Thank you to all involved (and for covering it here).

  4. MsIam says:

Wow, the Chalamet winner really does look like him. I don’t know who the other guy is honestly, lol, sorry.

  5. Tis True Tis True says:

I’m sure Chalamet and Powell’s teams OKed this. They both had some affiliation with the original contests. I did not realize there had been a contest for the Bear guy.

  6. Sue says:

In this very dark time, I think it’s nice to have some goofy, harmless fun.

  7. Normades says:

I think it’s cute these plebs got to have a fancy fun night. The Glen guy kinda has a Glen thing going on (it’s the squinty close set eyes) but I really don’t see the Timmy in the other one.
