ASAP Rocky dove into Rihanna’s arms after being found not guilty

ASAP Rocky has been found not guilty in his criminal court case. He was charged and tried for felony assault with a deadly weapon, and he reportedly rejected a plea deal which would have had him doing six months in jail. If convicted, Rocky was facing up to 24 years in prison. Rocky’s partner Rihanna was there in court several days for the trial, and during the closing arguments, she even brought their two sons into the courtroom. Rihanna was there on Tuesday to hear the verdict, and once Rocky heard “not guilty,” he literally dove into Rihanna’s arms.

A$AP Rocky was found not guilty in his felony assault trial. On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the jury acquitted the rapper — who was accused of firing a semi-automatic handgun at his former friend and A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli in an altercation in November 2021 — of two charges of felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

Before the verdict was announced at Los Angeles’ Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, each jury member agreed the outcome was their “individual true and correct verdict.”

After the first verdict was read, Rocky immediately jumped over the stand to hug his mother, sister and partner Rihanna. He also told the jury, “Thank y’all for saving my life. Thank y’all for making the right decision.”

The judge also thanked the jury for their time. “We cannot have jury trials without folks like you.”

Rihanna also expressed gratitude following Rocky’s acquittal, writing on her Instagram Stories: “The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by His mercy!” she added with a praying hands emoji.

On Friday, Feb. 14, the defense and prosecution concluded their closing statements and District Attorney John Lewin asked the jury not to be swayed by Rihanna’s presence in the court.

“This is not something you’re allowed to consider,” Lewin told the jury in downtown Los Angeles of the pop star and the couple’s two sons, RZA, 2½, and Riot, 18 months “We are all responsible for what we do. I want to make sure that no matter how famous his [partner] is, no matter how cute his kids are, no matter how much they giggle during closing arguments… he needs to be treated like any other person. Because in the end that’s what he’s entitled to.”

I’m glad it worked out for Rocky – there were a lot of people concerned about his rejection of the plea deal, and worried that he could end up in prison for a long-ass time. Rihanna also seemed to be very emotional at the thought of Rocky getting locked up. Rocky really took a gamble on a criminal trial. I wonder if the jury was swayed by Rihanna’s presence?

Here’s the video of Rocky’s reaction to the verdict. He and Rihanna left the courthouse together, and she stood with him while he addressed the media afterwards.

He knocked that woman out of the way and leaped into her arms. The jurors said there wasn’t enough evidence so there we have it. I hope he moves with wisdom and discernment in the future. He’s a partner and a father and is clearly loved.

I don’t think we need to comment on how he reacted, it’s not needed, give positive energy, and its not our place to judge the verdict, if I was facing a life changing situation and it came out positive, I would not hold myself back, I know it’s a courtroom and he was respectful throughout, I always say jump for joy

We don’t know what happened and he is no way on the same level as courtroom outcomes with other famous people, (I am purposely not saying names)

  3. Jas says:

Of course Rihanna was emotional at the thought of him being imprisoned. They’re a couple, they have children, and if you listen to them talk about each other, they have a real and strong connection.
I’m sure they were both terrified.
I’m glad for them that they got this verdict.

Don’t sleep on DA John Lewin! I just finished watching All Good Things with Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst and both seasons of The Jinx, all about Robert Durst… and DA John Lewin was the prosecutor who finally convicted Durst… he must handle a lot of celebrity cases.

Not being aware of the details I’m just happy for their family unit.

If you read the details of the case, you will roll your eyes. He should never have been charged. Such a waste of taxpayers time and money. Prosecute real crimes, not agendas.

Without even knowing the details, the fact that the prosecution is willing to offer 6 months for potential 24-yr prison (2%) tells you they’re not very confident. Then you read about the victim of the alleged crime reversing testimony repeatedly about the location of the video ‘evidence’ (NewJersey? LA Gun Club?). The alleged crime victim only got knuckles grazed from assault with semiautomatic firearm? And he picked up supposed spent shell casings himself to get his former friend charged by police two days later? Police could not find spent shell casings when they searched for them. Later the alleged crime victim files a $30M lawsuit against the alleged perpetrator, and there’s audio of him saying he won’t cooperate with the prosecution if he gets his $30M?

The insert from People is a real argument for the Oxford comma. I’m 100% certain the information being provided is: he hugged his mother, his sister, and his partner Rihanna. It technically reads as: he hugged a single woman named Rihanna who is somehow his mother, sister, and romantic life partner all in one.

Someone tweeted a clip showing the courtroom testimony of one of the prosecution’s main witnesses, who appeared to have lied.

Anyway, if I were found not guilty and didn’t have to spend a night in jail, I’d dive into my hubby’s arms, too. Congrats to ASAP, RiRi and dem babies.

Plea bargains are a thing because the criminal court systems are so jammed and trials are big $$$ in terms of resources, but do they really serve the cause of justice? I doubt it, as evidenced here.

  10. ravensdaughter says:

    So, a means of comparison…

I’m just filling out a form for a passport renewal through the US State Department, and I am totally stressed out even though I am a born US citizen and there is nothing complicated about it except filling out a form (not really that hard either).

When tax time rolls around, I will be out of my mind.

So, multiply my stress by a million, and that would be approximately what it would be like for a criminal defendant going to trial with jail time on the table. That’s some serious government action…

Wow, A$AP Rocky is a pretty cool cat…he stared those prosecutors down by going to trial. All that stress over months and months, and he held it inside and then it all came out when he heard the jury foreman say “not guilty”.

Take a nice vacay with the fam now…you all deserve it.
