While Mr. Rosie and I were watching the SNL50 live show on Sunday night I mentioned how dressed up everyone in the audience was. Even celebrities that we’re used to seeing wearing more casual attire at these types of events, like Pete Davidson and Adam Sandler, were in formal evening wear. Turns out SNL50 was most likely black tie, which definitely explains all of the fancy fashion. Sandler, who was on SNL from 1990 to 1995, attended the show with his wife, Jackie. He was also there to perform an original song towards the end of the show. Adam’s tuxedo and bowtie did not go unnoticed by reporters on the red carpet. When a Variety reporter commented on his formal wear, he made a joke about it being a “terrible feeling.” Ha!
Adam Sandler was not a fan of the SNL 50 dress code. The notoriously casually-dressed comedian rocked full black tie for SNL 50: The Anniversary Special in New York on Sunday, February 16, but joked that he wasn’t in his element.
“It’s a terrible feeling, I agree,” Sandler, 58, quipped to Variety on the red carpet after a reporter noted, “I can’t believe we got Adam Sandler in black tie.”
“Al Franken saw me in a sweatshirt last night and he was like, ‘What are you doing’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, alright, I don’t want to let Al down,’ so I put a tux on,” Sandler admitted, referring to the former SNL writer and performer turned U.S. senator.
Sandler has enjoyed a laidback approach to his red carpet style over the years, so much so that even his pal, Jennifer Aniston, was shocked to see him in a suit when she awarded him the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in March 2023.
“He wore a suit. He never wears a suit!” Aniston quipped during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon later that month. “It is weird because he kind of looks like he’s just playing dress-up. And he kind of just seems very uncomfortable.”
Sandler’s love for sweatshirts and shorts has made him an ironic style icon.
“It took a while. I was working that angle for years,” the Hustle actor joked to Esquire in June 2022 about his newfound status as an aspirational style icon. “For a while, I was like, ‘Please accept me and the way I dress.’ And 30 years later, they finally came around.”
The “they” he was referring to not only included his fans but also the fashion press, with Vogue declaring him the “fashion icon of the year” in 2021. That same year, he was the most Googled celebrity style icon and topped the list again in 2022.
I thought Adam looked really handsome in his tux! He may not have been super comfortable wearing the bowtie, but he pulled it off well. I’m normally hit or miss with sheer dresses, but I thought Jackie also looked fantastic. I think it’s the halter neckline that’s doing it for me. Either way, she pulled it off. I kinda love that the red carpet was black tie. It definitely gave the evening a more prestigious feel than a normal SNL ep would. Plus, I love seeing famous people dressed up and then getting to talk about all of the good and bad fashion moments.
As for Adam’s performance during the live show, he did a musical tribute, singing about SNL’s 50 seasons. Jack Nicholson did the introduction and the song was definitely one of the show’s high moments. It was both funny and really sweet. It was littered with inside jokes, gave nods to longtime production members, and included tributes to Gilda Radner, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley and Norm MacDonald. (He visibly teared up when he mentioned Farley and Norm.) If you haven’t watched it, you can check out the video of Adam (in his bowtie) singing it here:

This is how I feel about bras.
I also am not a bra fan but I hate saggy boobs, they make my back hurt and the “jiggles” are so uncomfortable so no bra at home but bra up while out.
