Prince William & Kate will be back at work in south Wales after their vacation!

Prince William and Kate are still in Mustique. They flew to the private island full of day-drinkers last week and they skipped the BAFTAs last Sunday. The British media has been lowkey calling them out for the better part of a week too, starting with the confirmation that they were skipping the BAFTAs because of their vacation. Kensington Palace’s clownish courtiers have been trying to problem-solve and massage the PR. That’s why KP’s social media randomly posted those “drawings” done by Kate and her children this week, only I guess we were supposed to believe that Kate posted the drawings herself as she lounged by the infinity pool. KP courtiers decided to change tack – on Thursday, KP courtiers huffily briefed reporters that Kate and William will visit South Wales next week, fresh from their sunny holiday.

Kate Middleton and Prince William are teaming up for their second joint appearance of the year…and there will be cake for a special celebration.

Kensington Palace confirmed on Feb. 20 that the Prince and Princess of Wales will visit Pontypridd in south Wales on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The royals are making the trip before St. David’s Day, a day of national celebration for Wales, on March 1 and will meet members of the local community to learn about life in the town. Pontypridd was hit with severe flooding from Storm Bert and Storm Darragh in December 2024 and the couple will hear from local people who were affected then.

The Prince and Princess of Wales will pack several stops into their trip to Wales, kicking off the visit at the historic Pontypridd Market to meet local business owners and have the chance to prepare Welsh cakes. Princess Kate is sure to ace the cake-making, as she’s known to bake birthday cakes for her children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

Princess Kate, 43, and Prince William, 42, will then head to the Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland. The community garden was established in 2021 as a safe place for all, and the royals will see how locals restored it to full splendor after the space was affected by the flooding in December. They’ll also hear about why the community garden is so special to the people of Pontypridd as a restorative place in nature, a sentiment Princess Kate referenced when discussing what brought her strength after undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

[From People]

I read a lot of royal coverage, obviously, so let me just say that this kind of detailed itinerary briefing is barely being done for Will and Kate these days. In recent years, the press is lucky to get a confirmation that Will or Kate will be doing *something* somewhere in the coming week. The news of this visit and the itinerary was briefed specifically to take some heat off of Kate and William for their vacation. But of course, it has another purpose too:

Princess Kate and Prince William could be set to overshadow Meghan Markle’s Netflix show with a public baking display, just days before the Duchess’s lifestyle show drops on the streaming platform. The Prince and Princess of Wales will visit the historic Pontypridd Market next week to try their hand at making traditional Welsh cakes.

The timing of the royal couple’s Welsh baking display coincides with the upcoming launch of the Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix lifestyle show on March 4. Meghan’s new series, titled “With Love, Meghan”, will feature the duchess sharing cooking tips and recipes alongside conversations with friends. The show promises to blend “practical how-tos and candid conversation” while embracing “playfulness over perfection” as Meghan and her guests explore cooking, gardening and other creative pursuits.

[From GB News]

I’m actually glad that GB News pointed this out, because I was definitely stuck in the mindset of “this is all about the Wales Family’s luxury vacation.” But no, it’s a twofer. They’re also going to steal Meghan’s thunder in advance by baking cakes! I doubt that will be the only thing Will and Kate do to thunder-steal. How sad.

  1. Jais says:

Cakes and gardens. Huh. Are they really trying to say see we can bake and garden too? How childish. Obviously anyone can be interested in that stuff but it’s always interesting timing.

    • Nanea says:

Do we get extra points for synchronicity, Jais? I even used *huh*!

      • Jais says:

Definitely. It’s a double point score of *huh*😂. Which can come up a lot when discussing the Windsors…who are apparently needing to remind everyone that they too can make pretty cakes and garden.

    • Yes a twofer but I remember seeing Can’t a few years back trying to flip a pancake and it didn’t go well so her trying to outdo Meg at a cake baking place is a very big stretch. Also it will be a photo op staged as “work”.

      • AR says:

        @Susan Colins
I’ve never met such an incompetent/inept person in my life. I’d say William is second, but at least he can say a single sentence. 🙂

She’s incredibly boring. (I don’t know how to say it in English – a knife is dull, and so is she.)
Sometimes I wonder if she’s not somehow inhibited.
That could explain a lot of things, like her dressing up as other people or her tendency to show her bare ass, which is one of her favorite things.

    • Bean says:

Here’s the thing – does anyone on a global scale *really* care about K &W? I mean REALLY? Meghan’s show will be globally available on Netflix and watched by people worldwide. The Keens have already lost – they will never, EVER, command that kind of viewership. The reporters in the UK can write their drivel and hate pieces but their sad little royal family will NEVER be what Meghan and Harry are. Meghan and Harry have won already. Not that they care about ‘winning’ but they have. No one really cares about a sad little dysfunctional family on a tiny little island.

      • Becks1 says:

globally? I dont think so. And even here in the US, to the extent anyone cares about them, its to see what Kate is wearing or if she got a new hairstyle or something. I know a lot of people who are “kate fans” but couldn’t tell me anything about the Early Years or Heads Together or couldn’t name William’s environmental prize. There was more interest when the kids were being born but as much as People mag keeps pushing her onto their cover, I just think people are like “oh nice dress” and move on.

Kate disappearing for months was the most interesting thing about her in years.

      • bisynaptic says:

To a large extent, they don’t need to compete globally, only in the UK—and, mostly, in little England.

  2. Nanea says:

It’s a sad day when you have to alert people of your existence by saying you want to overshadow someone who couldn’t care less about you.

But cakes and gardens, huh? I wonder where they got that idea from.

These cakes are more like cookies, with a fluffier dough. They are cooked on a griddle, so no flipping needed, and can easily be done in coatdresses and heels.

    • Lorelei says:

She needs not only the promise of a new outfit, but also a “fun” activity like baking in order to agree to do any “work.” Such an embarrassment and waste of her massive platform.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Will and Kate have become the definition of Cringe. I get second-hand embarrassment seeing them try to win this one-sided competition that they will never ever win. They will always be in the Sussexes shadow, they need to realize that to save whatever little bit of dignity that have left.

      • Beverley says:

@ArtHistorian, you are 100% correct. It was my understanding that the royals value dignity and their fans are always going on about how dignified the royals are. Yet they continue to embarrass themselves with their misguided folly of trying to compete when they are utterly outclassed by H&M. You’d think they’d avoid all comparisons after their many missteps.

      • AR says:

        @Beverley
Remember how a certain journalist said that he couldn’t wait to write the truth about William and that everyone’s eyes would start bleeding. Then Will would have his worldwide “fame” that he so desperately wants, but only for a moment, because if it was that bad, everyone would want to forget about him quickly.

    • Feebee says:

Cooked on a griddle, no flipping required? All I can think of is her disaster pancake effort.

    • Holz says:

Thanks for pointing that out! Apparently KP doesn’t know the difference between birthday cakes and Welsh cakes. The incompetence never ends.

  3. Steph says:

The ppl working for them are just as air headed as they are. A week earlier in a completely different news cycle? Going up against the beast that is Netflix? They really think they can compete with that when their own ppl don’t show up for them? So so dumb.

And again, what purpose does this serve? Are they giving funds or supplies to maintain the garden?

They aren’t going on St. David’s day bc they know they aren’t welcome.

    • Chrissy says:

They’ll be there to “listen and learn”, as per usual. Contributing nothing and truly caring, even less. What a farce!

      • Megan says:

I think there is a 50% chance this event will be canceled due to “weather.”

      • IFoxi says:

Steph, I thought the same things! Like, how are two things happening a week apart “coinciding”? They’re so pathetic they couldn’t find a cake and garden thingy to do a little closer to the date? What a stretch!
I wondered about how important the holiday might be in Wales and if they’d prefer the royal twits not be there on Mar 1. Not that the Welsh ever want them there, but particularly on Welsh holidays.

    • ShazBot says:

I’m sure they’re not going on St. David’s day because it’s a Saturday and they don’t work on Saturdays.

    • BeanieBean says:

I would imagine repairing a community garden would have taken a lot of work. That was the time for W&K to show up, put in some sweat equity. But no, they’ll show up after all the work is done, take some pretty pictures, ‘learn’ how actual work & community happens. (I don’t think they ‘learn’ diddly squat.)

  4. somebody says:

Notice all the things the people are supplying for them. Did they supply anything when the people were flooded or now? Aren’t they just being “disaster tourists”?

    • Chloe says:

All these two have to offer is their presence and they honestly believe that that is enough lol.

      • Lorelei says:

They genuinely seem to believe that their “learning” about a subject is actually doing a service to whoever has to do the teaching…? Like their mere presence (for like 40 minutes, tops) is enough of a gift to the peasants.

    • Nerd says:

This is the best example of what a “disaster tourist” is. They walk into an area that has experienced a disaster months later and only after real work has been done only to take photos. They won’t bring anything besides themselves with a smile for the camera and wave. At best they will bring one pan with brownies or a few boxes of pizza. Unlike Harry and Meghan who show up, roll up their sleeves and do actual real work to help by also contributing financially to the community and those being affected, Will and Kate never contribute anything financially. They are the epitome of what a “disaster tourist” is.

  5. Tessa says:

Kate tells chef to bake the kids cakes. There are 66 people working for the wails. Now keen will play happy homemaker to try to divert attention from Meghan s show.

    • Nerd says:

I’m starting to wonder what exactly the 66 staff do for them if Kate cooks their meals (including pancakes), bakes all of their birthday cakes, takes the children to and from school, helps prepare George for specific tests, photoshop family photos, attend all of the kids school activities and create pie charts for Early Years?

  6. Carol Mengelpp says:

Any confirmation that Wills is even on Mustique? Maybe he’s in Africa.

  7. Lynwall says:

Kate can’t even make a pancake in public.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt that she can do it in private.
The views on Meghan’s IG page should show them that there will be no overshadowing.
The BRF and tabloid media in the UK are delulu.

  8. Becks1 says:

First, I’m laughing because this is so obviously a “twofer” – both to make people forget about their luxury vacation after doing 3-5 events in January each and second, to try to take away from Meghan. They’re baking a cake and going to a garden, and the People mag (that i’m sure got its talking points direct from KP) made sure to mention that Kate bakes cakes for the children’s birthdays. They can’t use the cancer remission announcement a second time so this is probably seen as a runner up.

Second – the article talks about how busy the day is going to be and….they’re going to two places? The market and the garden? I’m sure Anne is quite impressed.

The detail of the announcement though is interesting and I guess they have been told there’s no getting out of it.

    • Chloe says:

Prepare yourself for some cringey PDA so they can really grab a headline lol. Holding hands probably but maybe even a kiss on the cheek!

      • Becks1 says:

William might even put his hand on her back to get her out of the way lol.

      • Chrissy says:

I wonder if she’d dare to do and ass pinch!

      • Tessa says:

He did not even look at her on that last joint appearance. Maybe William thinks he got enough mileage out of the Shampoo commercial so he does not have to show PDA. Maybe Kate will grab at his rear end. She will probably talk about how George loves the cakes she bakes for birthdays and so on and so forth

      • Hypocrisy says:

It makes for good comedy though.

      • Christine says:

It is so uncomfortable when William makes zero eye contact with Kate. I can’t imagine how fun that must be in person.

      • Jan90067 says:

Probably will make a comment about how the kids just *love* to help bake and cook, to compete with Archie and Lili’s helping Meg in various IG/doc shots we’ve gotten.

Yes, I’d expect them to say it (especially Keen). Don’t forget her memorable telling to Mary Berry that HER NAME was Louis’ first words (SOOOOOO cringe!)

      • convict says:

William appears to be emotionally unavailable. Having a relationship with someone like that is soul-destroying. I’ve been there. I don’t feel one bit sorry for Kate, but I wouldn’t want to be in her shoes … add to the fact that she’s still an outsider, with an odious family. He married her because she was the last woman standing. He has all the power and she knows it.

      • MelodyM says:

        I suspect Can’t would prefer to grab Wont’s butt… 😉

    • Nic919 says:

William has insulted Kate’s cooking for over a decade but we are going to pretend she bakes cakes? Yeah sure.

Kate has not been seen doing any cooking or baking in real time except for that sad crepe thing. She can’t compete with Meghan in that area and I don’t know why they even try.

I expect a red wardrobe because she is in wales and she’s so childlike in her dressing like the flag.

      • jais says:

Technically, there was maybe an insta post a few years back where she seemed to be baking with the kids. That is the only other instance that I can think of.

      • convict says:

What about all her luxury kitchens? She has two at KP or is it Anmer? She bakes the kids’ birthday cakes! Louis’ first word was “Mary”, as in Mary Berry. She must be a gourmet cook/chef *sarcasm*

      • Nic919 says:

The baking photos with the kids were not live video. She’s quite comfortable pulling drinks from a beer tap though.

  9. Maxine Branch; says:

Pretty sure the royalist will lap up this cooking exhibition but the world has moved on from this sort of oneupmanship, it is small minded and nonsensical and shows the depth of jealousy and pettiness in the house of Windsor

    • Betsy says:

And it didn’t have to be this way, petty AND lazy I mean. I think we all acknowledge that the Royals are all pretty huffy and jealously guard their little space, and we can quibble about the value of the “work” that they do, but what if William and Kate had been made to work instead of shirk? They’d be in their second decade of spotlighting causes and people. What if Kate had done actual work toward what actually makes Arly Yahrs productive and functional?

That’s even before the part about them throwing Harry and then Meghan under the bus instead of using them to further the work and the royal brand. I don’t really think monarchy should exist anymore but it’s there right now so it should be doing something.

      • Nic919 says:

The most work William and Kate have done over the years is to find excuses for why they can’t work.

  10. Ellie says:

Honestly, this doesn’t bother me, nothing any of the leftovers do can overshadow Harry and Meghan, especially Meghan. It will take Charles kicking the bucket or something to pull attention from them. Even then, it will still become a game of the million ways “king” William can punish Harry and another speculation of will they attend blah blah blah.

    • Beth says:

Eh? The Wales’ engagement is on 26/2, Meghan’s show rolls out on 4/3. Desperate stuff 😂

      • jais says:

Announcing the details this far ahead, during their vacation, is def not their norm. Surprise visits often are. So yeah, it is kind of a desperate act to get the papers to stop talking about their vacations and missed BAFTA appearance.

  11. Chloe says:

That last photo… kate needs to stop forcing these poor kids to give her a hug.

    • Tessa says:

Kate goes around hugging a lot and is praised and Meghan gets criticized for hugging people by derangers. And huevo is supposedly does not like hugs according to derangers.

      • kelleybelle says:

Which she only started doing after Meghan, of course of course, right?

      • Jan90067 says:

There was also a “protocol” that “Royals do not take selfies” with the peasants. Totally forgotten and changed after Harry and Meg started doing it.

    • Lorelei says:

That one photo is so funny— William is smiling down like it’s such a sweet moment, but only because he can’t see the expression on Kate’s face 🫠

  12. Tessa says:

I can imagine the side eyes the keens will get by the people who actually bake cakes. Like when William went in the kitchen to play at cooking and got the side eye from the one who did the cooking

  13. Eurydice says:

Very impressive. The Prince and Princess of Wales will return from their sunny holiday to visit the flood damage in Wales 3 months after it happened…and by the way chemotherapy.

Such interesting timing. I wonder if W&K would have made the visit earlier if Meghan hadn’t postponed the show because of the fires.

    • Normal_Islander says:

Eurydice- the flooding in South Wales came shortly after Spain’s king and queen visited flood-hit Valencia and were met by protesters who pelted them with mud. Perhaps the Keens were worried the incident was too fresh in people’s memories and they might get ideas.

  14. Catherine says:

Not only did they brief all this detail to distract from the vacationing Wales; they sold out the Wessexes to the press. Rarely do we ever get any info about their vacations let alone pictures particularly of James who always seems so uncomfortable at public functions. This is what would have been done to the Sussexes especially their children.

  15. Cj says:

lol at the audacity to think gritting your teeth over some store bought cake with a deep tan and sighing over how hard it was to make cakes at home with *cancer* will get even close to distracting from the Netflix show

  16. FancyPant says:

Yummmmmy, Kate baking cakes with her giant mop of hair drooping in the batter and a giant dirty ring she refuses to remove- sounds delicious!

    • Chrissy says:

LOL! Maybe she’ll throw in doing some gardening and playing with the dog, without washing her hands afterwards, too!

  17. Lala11_7 says:

In order to “steal thunder” 😉 you have to be interesting & captivating which the current British Royal Family will NEVA BE & Harry & Meghan will ALWAYS be! All W&K is doing is providing a GLARING light to how inadequate they are when matched up against H&M…so for THAT…I need William & Kate et al to CONTINUE to….go off🤪

  18. First comment says:

What? They’re sure that Kate will have a good day on the 26th? This further confirms that they use cancer to avoid work and criticism… anyway, this information came out from Kate’s team only to distract from the luxurious vacations…

  19. SarahCS says:

Welsh cakes are not ‘cakes’ in the sense that a birthday cake is a cake. They’re about the thickness of American pancakes and have raisins in them. They are absolutely delicious but they won’t be baking them like you’d bake a cake.

  20. wolfmamma says:

This article gave me an early morning laugh.
    How pathetic, really!

  21. Hypocrisy says:

The fact that they are so delusional that they think that they can steal Meghan’s thunder is beyond hilarious.. have they not noticed the last five years? Wonder who had to search England to find cakes for WanK and their great scheme 🙄.

    • monlette says:

It reminds of the scene in “Forever Amber” when Amber designed a risqué dress to steal all the attention away from a rival, and all she did was make herself into a laughingstock.

      • kirk says:

Wow. I haven’t heard of ‘Forever Amber’ in ages. That was a favorite book of my best friend back in middle school(?), some 50ish? 😳 years ago. But I def remember Amber going all in on the risqué dress, only to be humiliated. Hilarious.

  22. Tessa says:

Kate will please her devoted fans (some of whom trash Meghan) about how she is the bestest wife, mother, and cook. Ever. And all the usual talk. Forgetting how Kate and William have 66 people working for them and they have several elaborate homes.

  23. Lady Digby says:

KP are responding to the criticism of Will skiving off work to go on a luxury holiday in Mustique. They are trying to reassure us normal folk who work Monday to Friday that this duo also work hard even though their next work day is on Wednesday 26 February?? So they don’t start a work week on a Monday but a Wednesday?? Are they letting it slip that this pair work part time??

  24. Amy Bee says:

I’m sure the visit to Wales is not the only engagement that KP has lined up in the run up to March 4.

  25. QuiteContrary says:

Will be interesting to see if W&K show up tanned in Wales. They will stand out like the sore thumbs they are.

  26. VilleRose says:

I’ve been loving this news cycle with the Waleses being in Mustique, it’s been very comedic. I also picked up on the fact they were announcing this visit so far in advance. And I was like oh they’re trying to tell the British tabloids to shut up by being like, we got some work activities scheduled when we get back from vacation! Leave us alone! We usually never get confirmation a week in advance like this. And I didn’t even pay attention to what they were doing, cake baking and garden visiting. No amount of baking cakes or frolicking among flowers (can’t be that many flowers in bloom in February in Wales anyways) is going to take away from Meghan’s Netflix show launch which is a a whole week later. And they are going to be very obvious if they plan anything the day before, the day of, or the day after Meghan’s show launches. We may even get another tired round of “Meghan is just so awful!” articles but even those are not going to distract from it. They absolutely hate that she’s back on Instagram and she can say whatever she wants.

    • Normal_Islander says:

Probably plenty of daffodils to frolic among, great photo op.

    • jais says:

This will be their first event back. Not Monday but Wednesday. I’m guessing they will be filling their schedules with more stuff. Who knows maybe they’ll visit a jam-maker.

  27. Aimee says:

    Do they speak Welsh yet??

    • Chrissy says:

LOL! Surely you jest. The Princess can barely speak English, her native tongue. Thanks for the laugh Aimee!

    • Lady Digby says:

Have these bores mastered saying Bore da to the locals, which is Welsh for Good Morning, we will see! I bet Michael Sheen won’t be queuing up to meet them. However, Republic will appreciate the advance notice so they can greet them with Not My King placards.

      • Jaded says:

Just came here to say I hope Michael Sheen shows up and leads a “Not My King” parade then a public reading of Dylan Thomas’s ‘Do not go gentle into that good night’.

    • Megan says:

As the Duke of Cornwall he should focus his efforts on Cornish and Scillonian since both are highly endangered languages. And while he’s at it, he can clean up his slumlord properties.

  28. Jay says:

That is a… surprising amount of detail for the Wails. It’s basically a premade template for how the rota should write about the upcoming visit, mentioning both Kate’s baking prowess AND that she is in remission. Special mention of the fact that it will be a *rare* joint appearance! Nothing about the future king, though, did you clock that, too? Almost like they know Kate is their only hope of selling papers. That should make TOB very unhappy!

    • Lady Digby says:

@Jay tabs were salivating at the prospect of these two at the BAFTAS and boohooed when that didn’t happen. Tabs have been snarky since so KP is throwing them a Scooby snack with a definite promise that glamorous Kate will be gazing adoringly at our FK, hoorah! Maybe even with leeks pinned to their chests and the happiest of smiles as they greet the throngs of Welsh folk!

    • AR says:

      @Jay
      Skills!? Remission!?
      KATE HAS NONE!!

  29. Me at home says:

It’s also important for signaling, “Yes, our children are back in school now that break is over! We’d never, ever think about pulling them early or returning them late for an island vacation!”

  30. cazzie says:

Oh please. Cake Baking? (insert eye roll where appropriate) Welsh cakes is a misnomer. They are basically a raisin scone dough cooked in a heavy iron frying pan, then dusted with sugar. My kids were taught how to make them in the first year of High School, since we lived on the Welsh Borders at the time. Plus they are a quick and easy ‘bake’ for kids starting out to learn how to cook. We all know Madam’s prowess with a frying pan, so it wont be pretty LOL

  31. Lady Digby says:

“We pay, they pose” is a quote by Camilla Long, a British royal reporter for The Times & The Sunday Times. She used this phrase to describe the royal family’s relationship with the public.
KP advance notice of W and K blessing Wales next week with a visit was to fulfill the invisible contract alluded here by the other Camilla!

  32. Lady Digby says:

Will there be festive glances across the Welsh cakes?

  33. TN Democrat says:

Dear lort. I hope Meghan releases new episodes weekly instead of releasing all the episodes all at once just so the Wails have to do weekly events for the duration of the release. Meghan and Harry moved an ocean and continent away 5 years ago and are still in their heads. Keener can’t compete with Meghan and Willy can’t compete with Harry, but watching them try to show them up when the Sussexes don’t care has a certain sad, darkly comic effect. They are giving Meghan’s brand and every single Sussex release massive amounts of unintended from publicity.

  34. sunnyside up says:

So GB news thinks that Kate is being spiteful to Meghan for cooking on TV. They clearly didn’t think of the possible ways their story could be interpreted.

  35. Lorelei says:

But WHO WILL DO THE SCHOOL RUN if these two are gone all day!?

    🙄

  36. Ojuklia says:

    “work”
