Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper campaign for AIDS awareness and funding

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper appeared on Good Morning America yesterday in a joint interview to discuss their charity efforts as ambassadors for the MAC Viva Glam AIDS fund. They’re promoting Viva Glam lipstick, all proceeds of which go to support AIDS causes. Mac has earned over $150 million for the fund since 1994.
On GMA, Gaga and Lauper emphasized that all of the sales of the $14 dollar lipstick go to benefit women and AIDS causes. They said that women can buy it for each other to both support a good cause and to serve as a reminder to practice safe sex.

I’ve only seen Gaga in one other interview, on Ellen last year, and she’s very articulate and courteous, for lack of a better word. I was surprised at how thoughtful she seems when all the focus seems to be on her outrageous outfits. She’s not like at all like a young Madonna dropping f-bombs on Letterman. When interviewer George Stephanopoulos tried to talk about Gaga’s rise to fame, she turned the conversation around and very graciously complimented Cyndi Lauper and again brought up the cause. She’s a professional for sure.

Last week we caught our first glimpse of the new MAC Viva Glam print ad featuring Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper. Now the pair are bringing HIV awareness for women to morning TV audiences. The fashion icons hit up Good Morning America today, where Gaga said of Cyndi, “It’s very easy for us to work together. We have a lot in common.” Later on she even made Lauper cry. Awww.

“I’m sitting next to a woman I’ve admired my entire life, who’s legendary as a fashion icon and as an artist who really, really changed music for women,” Gaga said, as Cyndi teared up. “We’re speaking to you about a cause that affects women all over the world. I never knew that I would be allowed to have the responsibility that I have today.”

Lauper, a longstanding AIDS activist, said that every dollar made from the sale of the Viva Glam lipstick goes to the MAC AIDS Fund, which supports community organizations providing direct services to people living with the disease.

There’s another recent interview with Gaga in which she says that she’s shy with people she doesn’t know. “I always feel shy in the Hollywood scene. I feel a bit like I did in high school, like I don’t really fit in.” Gaga looks like she’s handling things beautifully to me and while she may be a bit shy it’s definitely not interfering with her ability to communicate.

Also – I got a tip from reader Sally that hot True Blue star Alexander Skarsgard was allegedly turned off by having to kiss Gaga during his guest spot in the Paparazzi video. Bang! Showbiz quotes a source that says “Alex didn’t say anything to her face, but he made comments under his breath to crew members and made facial expressions that made it obvious that he was not into it.” Supposedly Skarsgard’s rude reaction to Gaga helped motivate her to lose 20 pounds. I hope that’s not true at all, but maybe Skarsgard is not the dreamboat I thought he was. After all, he’s dating Kate Bosworth.

Lady Gaga should wear a condom over her face – she looks like she has contracted some sort of fungi growing there. What’s up with her trying and succeeding in being such a fashion disaster?

Am i just being horrible to everyone today?

I guess they are trying to do a good deed so I’ll STFU now

  2. JulieNewmar says:

Pants.. try wearing a pair every once in a while.

  3. anna says:

NOOOOO GAGA! Not this look! you look like you have skin thrush! Nooooo!

  4. mockey says:

    I love Gaga.

  5. poopie says:

That’s what makes GAGA special ! She’s outlandish and over the top ! more people should be like her. life is too short to CONFORM

    TEAM GAGA

  6. Tess says:

    Another day. Another campaign.

Lord God almighty. What would we do without these boneheads educating us?

    Send money, quick.

  7. bb says:

She looks more than horrible. Does she suffer from some skin diseas? She spend many hours to look that way but she forgot to bleach yellow teeth.

  8. princess pea says:

Wait, you think that not being attracted to Gaga is points AGAINST Skarsgard? I wonder if other people feel this way… Does this mean I’m bumped up in line? (There’s a line, right?)

  9. Solveig says:

Is there somebody who knows what the tatoo in her arm represents/is?

  10. Eileen Yover says:

Cyndi Lauper is freaking awesome. Lady GaGa is growing on me now -I like Poker Face and Bad Romance. I don’t care what she dresses like as long as she has some musical talent. If there’s talent, they can wear a potato bag for all I care.

  11. Malorie says:

Gaga looks like a negative of Marilyn Manson. All he used to wear in black, she wears in white. I bet she admires him XDD

  12. Jazz says:

Are they pearls? It looks like something laid eggs on her face.

  13. Peach says:

I am so glad that we have sex positive, intelligent women up there talking about AIDS. It’s refreshing.

She’s incredibly articulate and I loved her point that when friend’s call giggling about not using a condom it’s our job as friends to say, “Hey, this isn’t funny. This is your life.”

And if I can give 14 dollars for a lipstick (I’ll be getting the Lauper one) and it all goes to AIDS awareness, I’m down. Why not? I buy lipstick. I love MAC. Why not make sure my next purchase goes towards something good for women?

  14. gloaming says:

@poopie Ever heard of Bjork? 🙂

Methinks Lady Gagag’s given far too much credit these days.

  15. Trillion says:

Bjork or the amazing Karin from Fever Ray! But I do so love Gaga. Just not in the same way. She’s so much more pop and commercial, which I’ve no prob. with. There’s room for everyone with talent. Love her or hate her, the girl is the genuine article. If that’s true about Skarsgaard, that is seriously unprofessional. And if Gaga lost 20 pounds, where could it have come from? She’s like, 4 foot 11 or something, right? That’d be about a quarter of her body weight!

  16. princess pea says:

@ Trillion – I really doubt the lost-20-pounds part, frankly. Because she’s been tottering around without pants for a while now, and 20 pounds is a large enough amount that we’d notice a difference.

  17. hatsumomo says:

Gosh, she is so fricking awesome!
But I do feel a little bad for her, if the weight loss thing is true. I once, many years ago, went on a blind date with the friend of a co-worker. The co-worker showed each of us cell phone pics so we’d know what the other looked like and what to expect. We met up for dinner and when we were chatting he leaned over and said ‘You know, i dint know you’d be so fat, you looked skinner in the pic’. I was so mad! i never went out with him again. Jerk. Gaga should take a page otta my book, some guys are just assholes.

  18. dizzybenny says:

i woundt want to kiss her either.i’ve seen what she looks like without the make up and i understand why she covers her face all the time.
there nothing original about her she the 2000 version of Nina Hagen.

  19. Novaraen says:

Love Cyndi Lauper AND Lady Gaga :))

  20. EMV says:

I love them both, but they look awful in that interview

  21. Anastasia says:

Did any of you actually watch the video? I was impressed at how intelligent and well-spoken she was. At least she writes her own songs and has actual singing and musical talent, unlike most of the young stars today.

And what they are doing is important. You’ll understand if you watch the interview, it was GREAT.

(Been a fan of Cindi Lauper’s from way back, so that goes without saying!)

  22. gg says:

I adore Cyndi, Gaga and Nina. And I love the pearl virus she’s growing all over her in this shot.

  23. fizXgirl314 says:

lol at eggs being laid on her face…

she looks like her skin is boiling… she’s so over the top that it’s boring… if she were genuinely eccentric, it’d be much more interesting… I get the impression she has a team of people who try to out-do each other in the bazaar department… it seems very forced… not like genuinely eccentric people where you can tell the wackyness is inherent…

  24. snapdragon says:

cyndi looks great…gaga, not so much.

  25. Emily says:

I think they both look great. I haven’t bought a new lippie in awhile, I’ll definitely be buying a MAC one.

  26. ashleigh says:

I really hope that bit about Alexander Skarsgard isn’t true. I’ve always loved him, and that might kill my celebrity crush. And it isn’t about whether people find her attractive (I don’t). It’s about being professional and not a jerk.

I am definitely going to look at the lipstick. I like Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper. They’re sex positive feminist heroes.

  27. Craig says:

Lady GaGa is a performance artist, not just a pure pop singer. Her interests have always leaned toward glam and couture and full-out performance art, not just music. When she wears these bizarro outfits, it’s part of an act, and it’s no more or less attention-seeking than any other actor. It’s the characters she plays for her performance art.

  28. anna says:

Cyndi is older than Madonna– Cyndi looks SOOOOO great. SO great!

  29. Joan says:

If Skarsgard felt that way, why did he accept the job? Nobody held a gun to his head to do the video.
What about Jesus kissing Madonna? I wonder what he is saying under his breath.
