On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace confirmed that Prince William and Kate would attend the Commonwealth Day service on March 10, this coming Monday. Princess Anne, King Charles and Queen Camilla will also be in attendance. I wondered why the Edinburghs, Prince Edward and Sophie, were apparently skipping this year. Turns out, Edward doesn’t want to do anything on his birthday – ??? – and Sophie is making a point of not even being in the UK on Monday. Seriously, guess who’s flying to New York?
Royal fans can look forward to a new appearance in the books for Kate Middleton, who has been confirmed to attend the 2025 Commonwealth Day ceremony on Monday, March 10. Along with the Princess of Wales, Buckingham Palace confirmed that The King, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will appear at the event. However, two major royals were missing from this year’s guest list.
On Wednesday, March 5, Buckingham Palace announced the members of the Royal Family who will be present at Westminster Abbey next Monday—and Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie were not on the list.
As brother and sister-in-law of The King, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are regular attendees at Commonwealth Day. But it turns out they have a good reason for missing this year’s ceremony.
According to the Royal Family’s official diary, the duchess is visiting New York on March 10, although the reason for her trip wasn’t specified. Prince Edward will be celebrating his 61st birthday that day, and will therefore miss the Commonwealth Day ceremony.
I’ve been looking around, trying to figure out if anyone knows why Sophie is coming to New York. No one knows. But if Drew Barrymore hears someone pounding on her studio door on Monday, just know that this is a likely explanation. No, I’m sure one of Sophie’s charities or patronages is doing something and Sophie fancied a trip to New York. But… on her husband’s birthday? On Commonwealth Day too? And why can’t Edward go to church on his birthday?

I can’t help laughing over the sad, sad picture of Edward all alone on his birthday, sitting in the dark, illuminated only by the single candle on his stale cupcake – “Happy birthday to me…sniff…happy birthday to me…”
No one remembers him. He’s probably used to it I mean, maybe his kids will give him a card?
So Sophie will not be at home to celebrate her husbands birthday!! If a certain someone named Meg were to do that (she wouldn’t ) the gutter press would be all over it. Maybe she is meeting some fan……. Oops no she doesn’t have any of those.
And those “divorce” rumors are never applied to Sophie when she travels without Edward. what is she doing in NY?
” why can’t Edward go to church on his birthday?”
Because to them, going to the church is work and he probably doesn’t want to work on his birthday.
I don’t know what it is about Sophie, but I find her disingenuous and unlikeable.
She made snide remarks about Diana based on the nasty spin about her by Penny Junor, Ingrid and others. She also badmouthed her in laws through the fake sheik interview
@Tessa, thank you. I was feeling bad about myself for possibly misjudging her. Now, I understand that my perception and senses were accurate.
I heard that at some point she tried to copy Diana’s haircut. Don’t tell me that she badmouthed her too? What is it with these women who marry into the royal family? They seem to immediately adopt the jealousy streak of the royals, but that still doesn’t stop them from copying the object of their ire.
I can’t help but chuckle over “Prince Edward doesn’t want to work on his birthday.”
WHO ARE THESE CHILDREN?!?! GROW UP, BUY A SAD DESK DOUGHNUT AND GET TO WORK.
NOTMIKA, that made me laugh out loud. And your point is valid – most grown ups don’t have a choice. We work on our birthday.
I guess I just don’t understand what Edward needs a break from – he isn’t doing physical labor or even desk work on a regular basis.
