Hardman: People won’t see much of the Wales kids this year

In the coming months, the royal kids will be celebrating their birthdays – Prince Louis will turn 7 years old in April, then Prince Archie and Princess Charlotte are May babies, then Princess Lilibet will be 4 years old in June, and then Prince George will be 12 years old in July. The Sussexes have abandoned the royal habit of releasing photos on their kids’ birthdays, and I suspect we won’t get to see Lili and Archie’s faces in official portraits or even informal Instagrams for a while. But the Wales kids? We will absolutely get new photos of them for their birthdays, it’s all part of the arrangement Prince William and Kate have with the British press. All three Wales kids are now “old enough” to come to most royal events as well. But according to royal biographer Robert Hardman, Will and Kate are not going to be bringing their kids out a lot this year.

Every time Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis step out in public, they always steal the show. Sadly for royal fans, an expert has claimed that we may only see Prince William and Princess Kate’s children just four times this year. Royal biographer Robert Hardman told Marie Claire that 2025 may be a more private year for the family.

He stated: “I don’t think we’re going to see them in any way being shunted into the public eye more than is reasonably expected. I think there’s definitely a view that we the public should not expect to see them any more than sort of official royal family gatherings.”

The first of the four events could be Easter in April, when the royals typically head to church. Robert predicts we will next see the Wales children at Trooping the Colour in June. The royal biographer then predicted we could see the kids at Princess Kate’s Together at Christmas carol concert in December. He also speculated that an appearance to honour VE Day, held to pay tribute to the end of World War II, might be “on the cards.”

Editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward agreed with Robert, and told Fabulous: “I think that we won’t see quite so much of them this year. Hopefully we’ll see them on VE day.”

[From The Sun]

Hardman is forgetting Wimbledon, which Charlotte and George will probably attend (at least one of the finals), and he’s also forgetting that William likes to take George to various football matches and maybe some cricket. Kate probably wants to bring the kids to see rugby (if she even goes to any rugby games this year). Oh, and Kate will release even more photos for Father’s Day and Mother’s Day! And their Christmas card. There’s always the possibility that Kate will want the kids to star in another weird-ass short film like they did last year. So what’s behind this, and why is one of the more official royal-biographers making a point of saying that the Wales kids won’t be out and about much? Did William and Kate come to some sort of informal custodial agreement?

Yet another way they are copying the Sussex family. The S family does not show their children’s faces. So now, yes indeed, we shall not show our children’s faces….as much….maybe…probably…except for (insert every time there’s a need for a distraction/deflection).

What happened to “we pay, you pose”?

Can Willie return the taxpayer money for his family?

  3. Afken says:

Not sure what point Robert hardman is making because the occasions he pointed out are… the normal occasions royal kids are seen anyway. It’s the occasions the wales kids were first introduced to “royal ceremonies”. They’ve been at trooping since they were babies, sandringham Christmas since they could be trusted to sit still in church, same with Easter. Yes there was a push in the last few years to take them to other stuff but this isn’t some retreat into privacy, unless of course they DONT appear at Easter, trooping, and Christmas. Otherwise it’s just back to the royal norm. Gosh these people will put a narrative on anything!

  4. The problem is that the Wales tend to drag them out when they have screwed up and need some good PR. So are they not going to screw up? Probably not so we will see them out again. Unless that maybe a custody agreement has been reached but who knows.

Let’s not forget how George and Charlotte were kept out of public view way more than Louis ever was. The main difference being that Meghan wasn’t in the family getting the press attention that William and Kate wanted.

So when they screw up….I think they’ll still use pictures. Or events where the kids don’t have to talk to anyone outside their bubble. But honestly, I wonder if they want to make sure the kids don’t inadvertently say anything about their living situation that the Wales do not want known to the public. I can see a real fear in the kids accidentally saying something. William already revealed too much by saying Charlotte cried when seeing his beard. That’s why the kids will be closely guarded imo. And I’m gonna laugh if the birthday pics are just screenshots from the summer’s eve commercial.

      • CherryBerry says:

You’re right about them being closely guarded. Makes me feel like they are also reacting to all the talk about how the kids look depressed. Something happened in that family, and it was evident in the children’s faces last year.

I, too, expect a repeat cropped out image from something last year lol. Why are they so resistant to share a new photo?

  5. Alicky says:

Maybe this is the media’s way of saying they don’t expect any more Summer’s Eve commercials this year.

  6. Nic919 says:

It is not a royal habit to release photos of the kids for their birthday, that is something Kate and William did themselves. There was never an annual release of William and Harry birthday photos, mostly because they were seen in public fairly often anyway.

    • sevenblue says:

It is due to the invisible contract. Omid wrote in his book that the reporters were taking photos of the kids outside of a royal event. So, W&K made a deal that they will provide consistent photos of the kids and the media will stop taking pics of the kids outside of the public events. It was a better option than seeing photographers everywhere as a kid, like Harry and Will did as kids.

The kids seem overexposed at this stage. Apart from Trooping and church walks, they do not need to be seen for the rest of the year. Wonder how the kids will feel once they reach the teen years. I suppose George can start earning his keep then.

  7. VilleRose says:

We didn’t see the kids much last year in 2024 though right? The kids were basically in hiding while Kate recovered/announced her cancer diagnosis. I think the first time we saw them at all last year was Trooping in June 2024? I don’t count the Mother’s Day photo scandal or birthday pics (though I’m sure Kate and William think that counts). I’m talking about actual live events we see them at. So this isn’t really a big change, more of the same.

I don’t care if we don’t see them, they all deserve their privacy as minors. I just wish Kate and William would stop talking about it. It’s fine, we don’t need to see the kids.

    • Blujfly says:

They were all at Kate’s vanity concert in December 2024. But you are overall right – we did not see them as much as we did in 2023 and 2022. W took them out casually more in both years – at least the older two.

I think Keen will want another video. But maybe William won’t cooperate with the PDA this time. Maybe William can bring Charlotte along this time along with George when they go to sports event. Keen will probably bring Pippa and Charlotte to Wimbledon where she can be “applauded” for just her appearance, like Keen did last year

    • The Duchess says:

Another video would be beyond absurd, but I agree with your theory. Keen is desperate for attention no matter how tacky it looks. These kids will be marched out for eternity because that’s the way their parents want it.

  9. Hypocrisy says:

Sometimes I feel like they are throwing darts at a list of bizarre topics to fill the royal section on slow days and with WanK there are a lot of slow days.

  10. Tina says:

I’m actually glad the Wales kids are getting a more private childhood than william and harry got. Looking back at their childhood really shows how awful it was. I’m a few years older than william and i just remember seeing them constantly. But I don’t get how William and Kate get away with it. I guess the press knows that this is all that’s left.

    • Blubb says:

Tina: you might be right. When the Wales children do a Harry and leave the monarchy, than they are done.
If their father doesn’t manage that before them.

    • Tessa says:

Though William and Harry when they were children there was no Internet. It was all distributed through media, and there was print media, with newsstands and so on. And pictures would be released through news agencies With the Internet and Social media it is a different world for this generation’s Wales children.

  11. Lady Digby says:

I definitely see a Mother ‘s day video of her baking with the kids in her OWN kitchen (for extra authenticity!) Perhaps the sound track could be Anything you can do, I can do better! from Calamity Jane?

  12. Lady Digby says:

This maybe is verification of a column in Private Eye about how Government is trying to deploy RF to keep Trump onside! It started that Wand K are resisting pressure to go stateside with the kids as part of the charm offensive. I wouldn’t expose the kids to Trump either. Obama met George in his bathrobe when he was on a UK visit so maybe Trump feels he’s owed a meeting with all three kids?
