In late February, Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at the Upfront Summit. There was some coverage of what Harry discussed there – he made a speech, and then sat for a Q&A session, and the biggest headline initially was that Harry joked about never being allowed to vote. Well, Upfront Ventures finally released the full video of Harry’s appearance this week. Weirdly, the British media hasn’t picked this up yet? At least not that I’ve seen. It’s really funny because Harry revealed a lot in the Q&A session. The video is below – Harry’s speech is about nine minutes long, then the Q&A session starts at about the 9:20 mark.
The first question is “what do you miss about the UK” and Harry’s first thought is, “Living here for five years, it feels like home. Santa Barbara feels like home” and then he really ponders the question of what he misses about the UK. It takes him a second to think of something! LMAO. “Being British, I’m not going to say the weather…I guess the countryside is a big piece to that, and one of the reasons why we live in Santa Barbara, I’m not really a city person. I like to be out in space, with a big sky above me.” And then he just keeps talking about how much he loves being in California and raising his children in America. “As a family, we’re so happy here. The US provides so much opportunity and also it’s a safe space for us.”
Harry also reveals that he misses pubs and pub food, although he’s apparently found an Irish pub in Santa Barbara which does a good “bangers and mash.” He was asked if he misses football and he actually said: “I’ve never been a big fan of soccer, whoops, football.” He said that he’s gotten really into American football, and he loved this year’s Super Bowl because apparently, he’s a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and thought about placing a bet on the Eagles winning. He really said “go Birds!”
What else? This video has so much good gossip – he talks about how America’s entrepreneurial spirit is unmatched, and in America, “everyone wants to get behind you.”

LMAO Salt Island is going to be BIG mad when they wake up and see this. 😂😂😂
They probably won’t cover it much because it doesn’t fit their narrative of how much Harry misses his birth country and Meghan is holding him hostage
Precisely. I’d be shocked if they mentioned this at all. It blows up so many of their made-up narratives from the past year.
They’ll just ignore it. They can’t live with the fact that Harry is happy and thriving.
I wonder what the Salt Island tabloids will be outraged at first?
The heavy symbolism underlying the fact that Prince Harry’s favourite sports team is based in Philadelphia, revered not only as the city of *brotherly love*, but the birthplace of America’s freedom from British rule?
Or will the rota rats be more outraged that 5 years on, he’s still saying with his whole chest that he’s never coming back and doesn’t miss being in the royal fishbowl?
The British press is standing on the lawn of their ex like an emo teen, blaring a mixtape from a past relationship at Harry in an irrational bid to win him back; only Harry here, wisely bought noise cancelling headphones and moved to an entirety new neighbourhood.
Oh man this is really nice. And I don’t know for some reason it just made me really happy for him. Outside of all the other larger scale issues for him and Meghan, it’s nice to hear he’s acclimating well and feels at home in California.
I can’t imagine what it’s like for anyone to move a half a day away by flight from everything they’ve really known, even if they weren’t always super happy there. Sounds like the stuff that he did/does miss like being out in nature and certain food he’s been able to find reasonable replacements.
And I thought Harry was always more into rugby, or am I incorrect? If that’s the case I could definitely see him getting into American football a lot easier.
Yeah Harry’s more of a rugby guy so it makes sense. I hear rugby’s growing in the US so it must be really exciting. Half the world fell in love with Ilona Maher at the olympics too.
I am with you, and watching Harry try to come up with something he missed about England made me laugh. It’s so excellent that he is part of a strong, loving family unit now. There is nothing to miss in your rearview once you find that for yourself.
I am English living in the US. For the longest time I was like Harry, didn’t miss anything. But that little English girl comes out lot more often now and I find myself homesick sometimes. Don’t know if Harry will feel that way, I don’t have the family trauma he does, but he might find himself missing it. I’m with him. The countryside is where I would want to be too.
There is lots to love about the Californian countryside. English countryside is beautiful, but different–I can see how he might miss the hedgerows and such. But he didn’t mention the differences, so….
California’s got a lot more wide, open spaces than England! And once you throw in the rest of the continent, and Hawaii!, sorry, but the UK seems pretty tame by comparison. No wonder Harry loves it here.
Harry feels at home in Santa Barbara and good for him to finally feel he has a home!! Heads exploding on salt isle.
“As a family, we’re so happy here. The US provides so much opportunity and also [it] has saved space for us.”
I heard “ it’s a safe space for us”
Ah, I will change that. I was transcribing it myself.
That says alot especially with everything falling apart in this country, it still feels safer here than being near that family over there.
It really does say everything about what it was like for Harry in that family.
It reminds me of the article a British reporter wrote that Harry is miserable because Santa Barbara-Montecito is so boring.
And he could not be with his cousins and be third wheel to the keens. Harry is countering that spin
It’s a reminder of how much his family and the media didn’t know about him because I instantly thought about how just prior to meeting Meghan he spoke in Spare about being a homebody and refusing to go out publicly because of the media intrusion and his anxiety. He spent more time with people privately than he did hanging out publicly. As Harry said in his and Meghan’s engagement interview about the public and media knowing who he is, they “think they know”. They don’t really know him at all.
I can’t watch the video now, so can only comment on what was written.
As an expat and someone who has lived most of my adult life abroad, you get different reactions to living abroad. Some people never get over homesickness, most of us are somewhere between cultures, and a few are so happy with their new home.
Harry wasn’t allowed to have the same privileges as his brother, he was far more caged and controlled in the UK, his family was at risk, and he experienced more trust issues. I can totally see how America can be a breath of fresh air for someone like him.
As a native Californian, I can also say that California embraces outsiders. They don’t tend to be insular and exclusive; they’re curious and love new folks and want to make you feel welcome. It’s an easy place to make a new home (as long as you can afford it).
I will also add, as a Californian, that we really do not understand the feudal system. Many Californians are low key rebels with a “don’t tell us what to do” vibe. That’s why Trump doesn’t like us (among other things). And like Lover says WE LOVE our ex pats. Let us introduce you to the LA/Ca vibe. The food tour alone will keep you busy. Followed immediately by the nature tours. So much to do here. Hard core natives are gonna go hard in welcoming you into our fold.
Yes, exactly!
This is so true, I can’t imagine how many new friends have absolutely, positively HAD to take him on their favorite hike or to get the very best [insert food here] he’s ever had. In my dreams, Roy Choi is taking Harry and Meghan on a tour of his favorite food trucks. Damn, I would watch the hell out of that show!
This won’t go over well with the British media. Not well at all. But I’m here for it!
I would love another book from Harry when he is an old guy. When he wrote Spare, he was just out of the cult. Now, he has been living in the free world for years, has his own financial plans, bank accounts, investments. I can’t imagine learning to be an adult at his age. I wonder how he is gonna look at his past in a few decades after watching his own children being adults, enjoying free choices. I imagine, he is gonna see his own father in a completely different light. Contrary to what the tabloids wrote, Harry was very kind to Charles in Spare.
@sevenblue – you couldn’t be more spot on. My husband was raised by a narcissist (on the spectrum not the worst kind) and was the half golden child. His oldest sister was the golden one and his brother the scapegoat. He thought he had a mostly happy childhood. I watched as he watched how we raised our kids and it started to make him question things. My heart broke as he tried to get some validation or explanation for the things she did only for her to deny, gaslight, guilt.
I too wonder how Harry will begin to process his childhood as he raises his kids.
I want to know stupid stuff, like if it’s still exciting to go to an ATM, or just walk into anywhere without all the hoopla. I bet he can throw on a ball cap and mask and go anywhere.
Charles put harry and Meghan and their children in danger removed security and evicted them. I think that will always bother him.
That he could do that to innocent grandchildren convinced me he would have been able to kill his first wife.
@Blubb
Totally agree with this comment. And this is actually what I believe happened.
In fact, chuckyTheTURD is quoted saying that if H were to be eliminated, the repercussions from the public would not be too devastating for the monarch to survive.
This was the calculation he & his henchmen made when they took away the Sussexes security. The plan was that such a blow wd force H to crawl bk to the UK (with or without his family….as some rota spilled) but that if he didn’t and the worst happened, then (see above.)
This is why nothing can convince me that the royal mafia didn’t orchestrate Diana’s demise.
And nothing can convince me that it was a coincidente that the fact that it took 6 wks for the rota rats to reveal H&M’s Vanciuver island location and 6 wks to reveal their Tyler Perry location no one can convince me that MI6 wasn’t involved……..just as they were involved with Diana’s death.
This. Harry and Meghan’s treatment by the RF does make one rethink Diana’s death as perhaps not being an accident at all. Moreover, she had predicted her death and who would be behind it.
This. Harry, Meghan, and the kids are the second time Charles played this hand. Considering how it turned out the first time, you will never convince me he didn’t want the Sussexes dead.
If you think about it, it’s one of the only truly historically royal things Charles has done in his life. You can’t throw a dart at a past monarch without finding a relative they tried or succeeded in killing.
It was Williams boy – danw- who revealed their location in Canada. It came via a kp employees boyfriend caught taking a payoff
Bill was the one who authorized the release of their location through jason the knifes uni friend danw. Charles followed up with yanking security , but it was the other brother who put them in danger first and sicced the tabloids on them.
While Charles was the direct beneficiary, I am more inclined to lay blame for Diana’s death at the feet of old blue Betty.
The fact that Harry has found an Irish bar/pub in SB is sending me.
Irish pubs are full of expats. The only way you can watch non-American sports. 😂
Yes, my friend that I travel with always jokes that you can find an Irish pub just about everywhere.
There us even an Irish pub in Accra Ghana. I like it that Harry referred to himself as an immigrant and not an expat. Harry is the real deal.
One of my biggest regrets in my life is not taking an opportunity to go to SB to work for a couple who own an Irish bar there. When they’d come back to Ireland they’d always call into the bar I worked in and they asked me every time.
Eh, as Jais says, they’re everywhere! I’ve traveled a lot in my time & they are truly all over the place. Now, how authentic they are, I have no idea.
“found an Irish pub in Santa Barbara which does a good “bangs and mash.”
The Nazi Mail and Eden will cry about how this is a direct insult to the crown and will conduct a poll about how British bangers and mash are the best bangers and mash and not even a real Irish pub can compare never mind a fake Irish pub in CALIFORNIA! 😱…😂😂
It’s lovely to see both Harry and Meghan glowing from the joy that they created with their family and their chosen family.
When M said in her Valentine’s day msg that she will eat fish&chips and burgers&fríes with H “FOREVER,” I guess this Irish Pub is one of their favorite places for their fish ‘n chips!
Back in the day…my Guy 🥀 would make traditional fish & chips with Vinegar wrapped in newspapers and I thought I was walking down a street in Soho London 🇮🇴 ❣️
There are more Brits living in California alone than there are of all Americans living in England. H is in good company!
There’s a big British ex-pat community in Santa Monica, literally a few blocks from the beach (well, the Bluffs) lol Lots of tea spots an pubs. Great vibe.
You know the rota rats have already booked their plane tickets to rip apart every Irish pub in Santa Barbara. I hope the locals are ready to close ranks. Something tells me Harry is so lovable that they won’t be able to find anyone who will talk about him.
Sadly the Daily Fail can always rely on their paid attack dog, Richard Mineards, who lives in Montecito, to make something up.
Ok Harry, you need to contact Tom Cusack who chairs USA rugby. Or vice versa. 😉 The man needs to scrum.
https://usa.rugby/board
Good for him! Though I bet the Daily Fail is now frantically googling every Irish Pub in SB and will be sending someone to work undercover.
Remember those California tourism ads with famous people? They should do one with Harry! 😛
And he’s an eagles fan! Go birds!
That part cracked me up. Not just as a football fan.
Philadelphia – home of the Declaration of Independence, the first Conntinetal Congress, etc.
The entire city is one big FU to England. 😃
I beg your pardon, Boston, Mass. stands behind no city in saying “F you” to England. And we’d do it again! (I liked when he said “Go birds” too.)
OMG, this stood out to me, too. Go, Harry! Go, Birds!
There are famous photos of Diana wearing a gift eagles jacket. (As a Delawarean and eagles fan I, of course, posted them on Facebook before this year’s SB.) I wonder if there’s some connection to that?
Well, at this year’s Superbowl, outside of Chefs’ fans, any other teams’ fans and none sports fans were rooting for Eagles. I’m not a Phiily fan but feverishly wanted them defeat KC. And it’s an easy choice.
Those who expect him to miss the UK so badly, overlook the fact that with his travels, his military training and deployments a good deal of his life was outside the UK to begin with and he apparently preferred that.
Was thinking the same thing. Add that as a teenager he started spending a lot of time in Botswana/Lesotho – there’s a clip of a speech he made around that time about how frequently he’s there vs. the UK.
If you have the time, it’s worth watching this whole video. The general theme is entrepreneurship, and Harry’s point is that problems can’t be solved only through charities. Near the end, he’s asked what’s next and he says he won’t be starting any more charities. So, this narrative that we’ve been seeing about H&M’s future plans – that Harry’s about philanthropy and Meghan is about entrepreneurship – is simplistic. Both want to start and support businesses and both want to do good within and through them.
This article is timely as I saw a post on Threads proclaiming today as Sussex Freedom Day. Five years ago today, they fled Canada for Tyler Perry’s home. I’m going to make a commemorative sun tea.
Happy Sussex Independence Day!
That’s right, I remember it from the video. I was amazed at the time how quickly they packed and got out of Canada. Remember, on Monday March 9 H&M were at the Commonwealth Day service in London. Meghan left after that, but Harry was still in London for another day or two (and it’s a long flight back to LA). Harry recorded that piece on Tyler Perry’s plane at 6 am on March 14. I can’t imagine how stressful those last few days must have been.
I was so pissed because I would have loved it if they made BC their home but they got chased out by paparazzi and getting security was going to be political being a Commonwealth country.
Harry has ambition and gung ho independent spirit that fits well here. From what I understand about England its all about tall poppy syndrome and sticking to what’s always been done so its not surprising he likes the entrepreneurial spirit of America.
Yeah, I think the British media will pretend that this speech never happened – it does not fit with their preferred narrative of a sad and wistful Harry, cruelly imprisoned in sunny California.
Now william can rest easy!!!…Harry won’t be starting another Charity.
On the contrary, I think Bully will be more incandescent than ever, realizing that H is in a space (VC) where bully & the monarchy can’t enter, onnacounta the fact that their whole grift is based on the fact that they can’t afford to reveal their true wealth to the plebs…….its why they don’t give their own money to charities……any “funding” from KP that you hear about, comes from the govt, i:e taxpayers.
“…that H is in a space (VC) where bully & the monarchy can’t enter…”
Actually they can, just not publicly announcing it. They can invest their personal money to whatever they want. Remember QE2 was listed in the Panama Paper(?), meaning she/her money manager put her personal money into some shaddy investments.
The British press will see this video, ignore it and keep pushing their narrative that Harry’s unhappy in California and that he’s misses his friends and family. I’m happy that Harry has finally found happiness and freedom in the US.
I am glad Harry is living his best life in California with his wife and children. Harry was never going to be King and the $$ stipend given to him would never be enough. He would have ended up like Prince Andrew so this is such a better option.
I can’t imagine being a grown man and having to rely on a brother who resents him to give him money for his livelhood. I will always believe that one of the reaons why Will-di Amin hates Harry so much is that Harry took away the opportunity to fuck over his life–Will-di Amin would have loved to keep Harry on short rations, unable to pay bills, refusing to loan jewelry to Meghan (we already saw that in play), banning British designers from dressing her by saying Kate will never wear their clothes if they dress Meghan. Will-di Amin’s whole meaning of life was based on lording over his brother, who he knows deep down is a better, smarter, stronger man. Like all hateful bullies, his power comes from stomping others down. The Sussexes living their best lives must make that guy seethe. How ironic, to be heir to one of the largest fortunes on earth and taking no pleasure in it because he can’t fuck over the person he wants to fuck over.
It’s positively Shakespearean!
Harry was lucky to get out when he did 5 years ago before UK first national lockdown. Can you imagine if he’d been trapped here without her and his son for months in 2020? Spare made it clear that he’d been emotionally neglected since the death of his mother. Dad and, stepmother were too self-absorbed in their affair and need to get her accepted as suitable wife to be bothered with Harry and Will. Now he has the close family he also yearned for and absolute love with Meghan. They have been through hell to create their own secure nest in Californian sunshine. They have earned their place in the sun.
Harry would have swum across the ocean and would not have let himself be separated from his beloved and children.:))
Harry was most fortunate that he met Meghan while Elizabeth was still alive and could get permission from her to marry. Although Elizabeth was manipulated and deceived towards the end of her life, she was still able to get her way, like Harry’s arrival for the jubilee of her reign, when, against the royals, she invited them personally, gave them a solo walk in the church and provided royal protection and saw the children. The Queen also helped Harry register Invictus, so that no one could ever take it away from him. William did everything to prevent Invictus from being created. He made terrible rows, literally flew into a frenzy. They took advantage of the moment when William went somewhere, Elizabeth gave Harry her trusted people and Harry registered IG only for himself, apart from the royal foundations, which is exactly why he could “take IG under his arm” and go overseas.
Thank God she did that. I didn’t know that she did this, and under the radar too! So really, QEII was the only one in that wretched family who wasn’t a totally self-absorbed asshole and it was only through her true love and support that Harry and his family are safe and thriving. That she actually acted like all Grannies are meant to is heartwarming.
This puts a smile on my face after spending the morning reading US news 🤬 and trying to call my senators. Excellent to hear! So glad for him and his family. 😀
Out of the whole horror show, what are you specifically calling your senators about? I have two Democratic senators, so I’m not sure what to do in addition.
Happy to hear that Harry feels at home here, but ones home town, where you grew up, always will tug at you a little.
Nope, not mine. No desire to ever go back.
Harry said that he always had anxiety attacks flying into Heathrow. His home is where his family is.
Surprised to hear Harry say he’s not a big fan of football (soccer). I understand why Harry is into American football- it’s the closest to Rugby and he’s on record with Rugby as a loved sport for him. I should check this, but North American football might be based on Rugby. Harry was the very popular royal patron of Rugby. William is the football fanatic, right?
I’ve heard that liking soccer/football is a class thing in Britain. In Britain, soccer is associated with hooliganism and the lower classes, my dear. This is from what I’ve read but, more importantly, from my cousins there (one of whom nevertheless showed up with a soccer ball for my kids, but it was a Celtic ball so maybe OK).
Football used to be a working class sport played by people pretending to be gentlemen and Rugby, (American football) is a game for the upper classes played by hooligans. I don’t know where that came from but I heard it years ago.
I’m glad that he finally found the life he wanted. His Mom dreamed of moving to California. He seems so much like her.
I finally found time to listen to the whole thing and I need to say that I’m really impressed with how articulate Harry is and how well he does onstage. Perhaps some of the questions were fed to him beforehand, and he had a chance to prepare (I don’t know, but maybe), but towards the end, the questions about Cadbury’s vs. Hershey and about politics seemed to come out of the blue. I helped prep some very senior government officials, some of whom you’ve probably heard of, before testimony and TV appearances. And, while you can give them talking points and conduct murder boards (basically, mock Q&A sessions), it’s hard for many people to stay on message or to improvise when needed. Harry always managed to steer right down the middle of questions that were political or otherwise dangerous, and he managed to deflect the most difficult questions with humor or anecdotes. It was an absolute contrast to the bumbling numbskull the British press would have you believe.
That’s interesting for H to have to think hard about what he misses about his hometown. I also prefer the English countryside compared to big cities like London etc. Although he’s living in SB and Montecito now where it’s quiet and peaceful – surrounded by forests and the Pacific coast, and beautiful weather for most of the year.
California has been my home forever, and I just love the diversity of this state’s landscapes and diversity of people. With that you get a diversity of ideas, the reason why it’s #1 in innovation and entrepreneurship. When H says America’s entrepreneurial spirit is unmatched. Like people don’t need to come from a wealthy background to become successful and to make it on their Own here. You can have an idea eating at Dennys with your friends and can build upon that idea to become a very successful business(ie Nvidia). It’s just part of US culture and other countries think that’s weird or get looked down if one wants to move up.
Yeah, we have an awful president(trump-musk) right now(I’m like Jasmine Crockett wake me the F up when this nightmare is over), but in a way living in CA we’re still shielded for now as this state is still pretty progressive.
Early 80s – Just after college, I spent five years in UK and Europe. Singing in punk bands, doing odd jobs, living in squats, etc.
It was fun!
But, eventually, the very thing that drove me out of US (we’re so superficial!!!) is what lured me back. Realized that I missed small-talk with strangers at the bus stop type of interactions. (stranger in Amsterdam gave me a look like I was crazy when I joked about the rain as we waited at unsheltered stop together)
So – But, Harry’s situation is so different. He’ll never go back to royal/royal-adjacent life and, especially, not without Meghan.
I wish for him that things weren’t so bad for him back home. In a nice fantasy-world, they could spend a few weeks in the English countryside every year, but it’s never gonna happen.
Thinking about how he used to suffer from panic attacks when he lived with that family versus how happy . and relaxed he appears now makes my heart swell with joy. I know his mother is crying tears of joy. The royal rats and his family will not draw attention to this because it does not fit their narrative. They want everyone to believe that Harry is miserable and Meghan is holding him hostage. They don’t want people to know that Harry is living where he can enjoy mountains, lush land, beaches, warm and breezy weather, freedom, and safety. They don’t want anyone to comprehend that Harry is enjoying his life with his wife and children. They are probably screaming that the Spare, Diana’s heir, is Americanized. Harry is living the life his father and evil stepmother did not want for Diana. Based on the actions those family members took to force him to return and the removal of his security, you can’t convince me that the car accident that killed his mother was an accident.
Right. This King accepted to put the life of innocent children in danger. And he wouldn’t kill the woman he hated? That would have outshine him every single day? At least they gave a helping hand…
the ease and relaxed nature in his responses shows where he is most happiest-to do things when and however he chooses is a mighty great freedom compared to his upbringing is rigid monarchy system-he has said before meeting Meghan he did not living constantly in the UK-people missed those interviews-given how much he and Meghan and their children have experienced in negative ways from the UK mostly -it is a blessing that God and Diana has kept a steady hand on the Sussex family-the was he was treated growing up nad later in life with a wife and children-nobody in this world could convince me those shitgibbons did not do something to cause his mother’s death-God bless and keep the Sussex family safe.
