It was just last week that Lindsay Lohan was too dumb and cracked-out to deign to make a flight on time. The flight was to one of Lindsay’s very rare paying gigs, where she was going to be the paid escort of Richard Lugner, and attend the Vienna Opera with him. Instead, Lindsay went shopping and missed her flight, of course. So what you do after that if you were Lindsay? Keep your head down and pray that someone else takes a chance and offers you another paying gig at some point? Of course not. Lindsay hopped on another plane and flew to London, where she will be hostessing an benefit for Haiti, of course.

The star-studded Brit Awards are clearly far more appealing to Lindsay Lohan than a ball in Vienna. The actress flew into London’s Heathrow airport this morning to host a Haiti fundraiser in the capital to coincide with the annual music event.

And her people will no doubt be breathing a huge sigh of relief that she actually got on the plane – although it will be little consolation to the organisers of the Vienna Opera Ball.

Lohan, 23, had been invited to the society event in the Austrian capital on Thursday as the $150,000 guest of veteran Austrian tycoon Richard Lugner, who asks a different female celebrity to be his date at the ball every year. But despite issuing a string of demands – including a private jet – she missed the bash after arriving two hours late to board her flight.

Thankfully for the organisers of iRock4Haiti, Lindsay arrived in London on time to host the event on Tuesday at nightclub Altitude 360 to raise money for the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit the country last month.

The Brits Awards will be screened live to guests who will then attend an after party and charity auction, which will give all proceeds to the British Red Cross.

Lindsay will be donating a special prize to the auction, offering one of her fans the chance to spend a night out with her in Los Angeles with first-class flights and a week in a five-star hotel thrown in for good measure.

She was so excited about her role in the night’s events that she even recorded a video from a hotel room asking people to come along and take part in the fundraiser.

For Haiti! Lindsay did record a short video for the event (below). I was going to make fun of it, but it’s really not that bad. I mean, it’s not her “Professor Crackhead” act in the BBC documentary for Indian child trafficking (sample of Lindsay’s speech: “Didn’t you hear that children were abused, and some girls, maybe if they were attractive, were raped and prostituted?”). In this video, Lindsay seems to know her lines, and she only seems a little coked up. So, improvement!
