Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ did not receive any Academy of Country Music noms

The country-music gatekeepers might be the worst people in the world, perhaps only second to racist white country music fans. Last year, Beyonce released Cowboy Carter, a wonderful country album which also served as a history lesson for country music and the music industry in total. I’m still rocking out to that album – for my money, Cowboy Carter and Kendrick Lamar’s GNX were the two best albums of the year. Cowboy Carter ended up winning the Grammy for Country Album of the Year AND Album of the Year. It was Beyonce’s first AOTY Grammy (and her first CAOTY). The Grammys came after Beyonce was completely snubbed for ANY Country Music Association Award nominations. Considering how those ghastly CMA people treated Shaboozey, I’m glad Beyonce didn’t even have to show up, but it’s the principle of the thing at this point. Well, quelle surprise, the other big country music awards also made a point of snubbing Beyonce.

Beyoncé and her Grammy-winning album have been left out of the nominations list for the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards.

On Thursday, March 27, the 2025 ACM Awards nominations were announced with Ella Langley in the lead — and the “CUFF IT” singer was notably left off the ballot.

The snub comes after Cowboy Carter earned the star Grammys for album of the year, country album of the year, and best country duo/group performance for “II Most Wanted,” her collaboration with Miley Cyrus.

In September of last year, Beyoncé was also notably left out of the CMA Awards nominations list. After the announcement, stars like Luke Bryan, Whoopi Goldberg, Kelly Clarkson and Billy Ray Cyrus weighed in on the matter.

“I kind of find it fascinating,” Clarkson, 42, told NBC10 Boston of Beyoncé’s lack of nominations, “because I feel like those songs were everywhere.”

Cowboy Carter reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, while its lead single “Texas Hold ‘Em” hit the top slot on the Billboard Hot 100.

[From People]

The country-music genre wants to put out the “Whites Only” sign, only they don’t have the stones to just come out and say “we don’t want Black people in OUR country music industry.” This is the whole reason why Beyonce made Cowboy Carter in the first place, because of how she was treated at a country-music awards show IN 2016!!! She should make another country album full of twangy songs about how much she hates dumb rednecks. Anyway, the only silver lining here is that Beyonce doesn’t have to go to the ACMs and listen to a million racist microaggressions.

If she liked making it, if the audience likes it, if the people who understand the references appreciate it, who cares about awards. All this repetitive drama about how she was snubbed for this or that award takes away from her legacy, in my view. She should just found her own award and hand it out to artists who create something impactful.

ACM not nominating her doesn’t affect her legacy. Beyonce’s legacy is set and done long ago. She is one of the best performers of our time and she created an amazing country album where she explored the contributions of black people to the genre, which were ignored by the current country industry people. It isn’t even ironic that they also ignored her album, it is what is expected. I am so happy this particular album brought her the AOTY, although her previous works also deserved it. She is still creating something different and taking risks at this stage of her career and her fans are still paying attention. That is what matters.

Highlighting racism & misogyny isn’t watering down her legacy…it’s bringing to light a despicable aspect of humanity and humane society should NEVA take its foot off the gas regarding showcasing THAT!😡

Beyonce doesn’t care. At the point where she is in life and career, she has other priorities and has nothing to prove. She does what she loves, and expects nothing but joy out of her work and fans and family. She knows why she’s not up there when she should and she sees that other salty islands exist.

    I’m really disgusted by this.

Same! Those people are cowards and frankly, have no artistic vision. I was a huge fan of country growing up and old-school country is amazing, but it’s boring and generic now. Beyoncé‘s album is a breath of fresh air and they should’ve embraced it as a moment to reinvent the genre. But they’d rather sit in their mediocrity.

Not surprised by this at all.

In a year when the Trump administration is erasing the accomplishments of women and people of color from government websites, and attacking DEI in our government agencies and universities, is this really a surprise? Elon Musk threw 2 Nazi salutes at the inauguration! “Whites Only” is being normalized. It’s what MAGA has always meant. The next national day of protest is April 5! Get to DC if you can! fiftyfifty.one

  6. Nicole says:

I would hope that at least “II Most Wanted” would have gotten a nod. That’s truly a beautiful song. Post Trump America is trash.
