Princess Kate released a video ‘celebrating Mother Earth’ for Mother’s Day

Last year, the UK celebrated Mother’s Day on what was “Oscar Weekend” here in America. Kensington Palace released a photo of the Princess of Wales with her three children, which was the first photo they released of Kate since her mysterious abdominal surgery and subsequent disappearance. Within hours, people were analyzing the photo and pointing out very noticeable edits in the photo, to the point where photo agencies contacted Kensington Palace and asked KP to release an unedited, unmanipulated image. KP refused, and so during the Oscars, a scandal unfolded across the pond as Reuters, AP, AFP and Getty all issued “kill orders” on the frankenphoto. It was a global embarrassment for the Prince and Princess of Wales and their office, and they made Kate take the fall for it.

Well, this year, Kensington Palace hilariously decided that they would not issue a new photo or a new video or even a message from Prince William honoring the mother of his children. Instead, “C” posted a message about nature, and they edited together some beauty shots of England alongside some footage from that bizarre video William and Kate made last summer. Kate wrote on social media: “Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary. This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life. C.”

It’s funny but it’s also sad? Like… it feels like it didn’t even occur to anyone in Kensington Palace that they could just release an unedited photo of Kate with her children, something from the archives, even. They didn’t even think to release a statement from William, like a “happy Mother’s Day to my wife and all mums out there!” And Kate could have wished Carole a happy Mother’s Day too? Well, their aim was to NOT make news this year, so I guess this was a success. Also: it will be curious to see what KP does for Father’s Day. They usually post a photo of William with the kids for that holiday – will they do that this year?

HAHAHA again, it makes no sense. Video content creation is her new creative outlet now, after photography and music/piano recitals.

    • Caitlin says:

Agree – makes zero sense whatsoever. But I guess it counts as “work” right?

      • Tessa says:

It has vibes of that film the ring with all the images except it does not have the child s a m a r a. I doubt keen did the video.

      • Lady Esther says:

Isn’t it the start of the sacred school holidays, so William and Kate will be MIA for three weeks? So this video – which makes no sense – tracks, as it serves as “work” while they go gallivanting and the BRF continues to make the most of the Sentabale PR mess to distract and deflect from Charles going to hospital….

      • Megan says:

The video is to remind us they are environmentalists in case you forgot because they live an excessive lifestyle.

    • Honeybee says:

Everyday is a fool’s day in KP. Foolproof fools. Oh! tomorrow is April 1st. Happy fools day KP.

  2. Liz - L says:

I think they’re still in a huff with the media over getting caught out in last year’s photoshop. This is immature retaliation – no shots of the kids.

    • Liz - L says:

Lady Esther – I wasn’t sure if Sentebale was a distraction for Charles going to hospital. Or him going in was a distraction from it linking him to the cash for honours scandal

      • TC says:

What??? There’s a new “cash for honours” scandal? Or are you referring to the old one.

    • Liz - L says:

Megan – they portray themselves as environmentalists while the DM has just done an article on their extensive collection of cars

  3. Becks1 says:

This just seemed kind of bizarre and sad. BP released two pictures – one of charles with his mother and one of Camilla’s mother with Tom P-B as a baby.

If W&K are adamant about not releasing pictures as “punishment” for the photo agencies issuing that kill order last year – I mean, then release an old picture of Kate with her mom as a child. Release a message from William about how important mothers are with a picture of Kate’s favorite flowers in the background or something. IDK. But a message from Kate about the importance of mother nature is just……..well, kind of sad.

    • Tessa says:

I wonder why Laura Parker Bowles was not featured.

      • Becks1 says:

It just said it was a picture of Rosemary with her first grandchild. I don’t think it was a slight on Laura.

    • Christine says:

This is just sad. I feel like Kate is edging towards Britney shaving her head territory. Is there no one in all the land who can explain to her that “Mothering Sunday” has nothing to do with Mother Nature? Jesus, this woman is truly alone in this world.

      • Alteya says:

Keen isn’t alone, she has her gawd awful racist, briefing against Meghan constantly goldsmith/Middleton crew.

Keen didn’t think this up or do this on her own. Dozens of staff were there to have this idea, do the work, write her lines, etc. All she had to do was literally phone it in from holiday by recording it as a voicemil message for them to edit.

    • sevenblue says:

We are always saying W&K’s office is weird. Looking at the activity of Charles’s office, you can clearly see why. That is what you do on Mother’s Day. It isn’t rocket science, but W&K find a way to make it weird and suspicious. Maybe, that is how they get engagement on socials. But, it doesn’t give confidence about the future leader of UK.

    • Ginger says:

The video was definitely an odd choice. Very strange.

    • Penny says:

British Mothering Sunday is older than US Mother’s Day and was about celebrating Mother Earth/Nature and returning to your Mother Church. It’s not a commercial cards and trinkets fake holiday. Returning Mothering Sunday to celebrating nature is one of the few things W&K have got right.

      • sevenblue says:

What a modern couple, lol 😭😭😂 Celebrating human mothers isn’t commercial or fake.

      • BeanieBean says:

        🙄 They aren’t ‘returning’ anything.

      • Blujfly says:

The modern version of Mothering Sunday was in direct response to efforts in the US to create Mother’s Day and “mothers of earthly homes” is one of the four pillars. Puh-lease. They have never once acknowledged either the mother church aspects nor missed any opportunity to use their children for publicity. Nor has either shown any empathy or sympathy for anyone without a traditional relationship with their mothers. Kate’s entire public persona is “mother” and not in the internet way.

  4. ecsmom says:

OMG. Women and the work they do are taken for granted all the time, particularly regarding their role as mothers. So let’s lessen that role even more and take it away from them and give it to Mother Earth. The least she could do is pay homage to both.

    • Penny says:

Well, Mother Earth came first so put her first. Mothering Sunday is not like US Mother’s Day which is loaded anyway, given that some people have abusive or absent mothers. Give it back to celebrating Nature, the origin of us all, and all’s good.

      • Bronco says:

Penny I understand the point you keep making but they’ve NEVER done this before. Ever. Nor has anyone else in that family. All I’m seeing on my social is people saying mother’s day.

We get it. She’s an ode to mother nature and her own earth mother pretentions but let’s not suggest this is normal for them.

  5. Miss Scarlett says:

This was very weird and very pagan of her.

Maybe that’s the type of spirituality she’s gotten into the last year?

  6. Jais says:

Huh. Didn’t have an ode to Mother Nature on my bingo card. But here we are.

  7. Amy Bee says:

I don’t get this at all. Why couldn’t KP just post an old photo?

    • Jais says:

No idea but there has been a lot of manufactured criticism towards Meghan about photos of her kids now that she’s on insta , even though we don’t even see their faces. Maybe since the criticism was so recent, they wanted to differentiate as in see we don’t always display pics of the kids. But of course they do. Or have. Maybe they don’t want to remind us how they created a frankenphoto that caused people to dissect every detail of the kids clothes and features. That was the part that got me. Putting out a fake photo actually caused more scrutiny on the kids as the internet analyzed fingers and skirts and whatnot.

    • sunnyside up says:

They have probably all been photoshopped.

    • Hypocrisy says:

All I see is a poor excuse for a “happy Moms day” message.. almost like she is trying to out do Meghan and her IG now and this is the end product something as weird and bizarre as that Franken Photo.

  8. Me at home says:

Is there a person living who needs Kate to remind them that nature is good for the soul? So trite. I agree, if the goal was not to make news then they succeeded. Although they could have gone in better directions like, you know, releasing a normal photo (even just of a tree if needs be) instead of another syrupy video.

  9. Tessa says:

Kate could have sprinted across the field in a flowing gown dressed ad mother nature

  10. First comment says:

Anything to avoid comparisons and talking about last year’s photo, I guess..🤷‍♀️

  11. somebody says:

So have they heard of Earth Day? Seems a weird choice for Mothers Day.

    • QuiteContrary says:

Exactly! This is an Earth Day tribute, not a Mothering Sunday one.

How can they continue to be so bad at this??

      • TC says:

I reckon “C” has a spectacularly inept & unimaginative staff. But then, they hired them, so it reflects badly on them.

      • Penny says:

Look up the origins of British Mothering Sunday and you’ll see it was always partially about Mother Earth/Nature.

      • BeanieBean says:

@Penny: it doesn’t really matter what the origins are, it’s how people celebrate today that matters. Same with Christmas. And today, Mothering Sunday is all about celebrating mothers. Same as Father’s Day, celebrating dads. And yes, some people end up with a crappy one or the other or both, but they themselves can change that dynamic, should they choose.

  12. Well she could have put a simple picture out like Meg did to show how she celebrates Mother’s Day but no she went for a video of nature. Her video tells me that it’s true that she and Peg are no more.

  13. Tessa says:

Real separation vibes for the keens going on here.

  14. Sun says:

Weird and sad. I feel like this is what happens when they overthink what Meghan is going to post and try to either compete or (as here) avoid any possible comparison. It’s desperately sad and scary how insecure W&K are.

  15. Jjp says:

Their videos give me Hunger Games, “message from the Capitol” vibes.

  16. Libra says:

THe DM comments were not kind.

  17. Blujfly says:

This is really bizarre, woo-hoo nonsense from a woman whose lifelong brand has been “Middle England.” I’m not even sure it reflects any spirituality – it seems to reflect a very narcissist form of guru confidence. She truly seems to be believe she was saved because she is special. And the amount of film footage seems very, very large. If the papers were honest, this is the exact “Hollywood esque nonsense” they claim to despise.

  18. KC says:

Lucky for William to be born as the heir, otherwise he’d be sitting in daddy’s basement playing video games on the dole. Wait, that is pretty much what he does.

They couldn’t be more boring if they tried.

  19. Kittenmom says:

    I’m embarrassed for her 🥴

Actually, no I’m not. I’m laughing my @ss off – at her, not with her.

  20. Nic919 says:

I think this weird post benefited from the Sentebale news basically taking over the UK media news cycle. It makes no sense and compared to how BP manages their account, you really wonder what the hell is going on.

  21. Chaine says:

Yikes, the tone of the video is quite ominous! That is the kind of montage I would have put together when I was struggling with clinical depression. Get some therapy, Kate!

    • Tessa says:

It is like that video in the movie the ring with crawling insect and seaside views

      • Unblinkered says:

@Chaine “get some therapy, Kate”, exactly . Then get a job and start making a worthwhile contribution, like all previous female members of the RF have done.

  22. Nerd says:

I must say that I am thoroughly disappointed. I was hoping for an annual Find the Mistakes photo for this Mothering Day.

  23. tamsin says:

I don’t know what to make of a whole video which features only Mother Nature and Kate. Charles and Camilla celebrated their mothers, but Kate and William can’t it seems. It would even be weirder, I guess, if there were a post of Carole and Diana- what a horrible thought. So Kate has to celebrate herself, touching a tree, in a video with what appears to be some stock photos and foreboding music. Its tone is definitely upbeat.

  24. Digital Unicorn says:

Bargain basement copy of content the Sussex’s put out – plus is just rehashed footage from the ‘cancer free’ Town and Country ad from last year.

  25. Henny Penny says:

How nice when you literally have thousands of private acres of nature at your disposal. I’m sure the people working two jobs in a congested city and still barely surviving are touched that Kate touched a tree.

I sincerely hope they keep up this Let Them Eat Cake approach.

  26. Sharon says:

Has she started to use her initials to sign off because that’s what Harry & Meghan do?

  27. sparrow says:

The problem for Kate is that she’s married a very rich man, tick, but she can’t show off about how wealthy she is. Oh, no! All that social climbing and yet no freedom to plaster social media with images of her house and stealth wealth clothing. Pithy crap like this resonates with women who use Oribe shampoo and drift around in The Row. Which she’ll love. Unfortunately for Kate and the BRF, this kind of video goes straight over the head of traditional royalists, who tend to be elderly and unused to the idea of empty emotive social media messaging from a princess, and also jars with younger tabloid fans, who tend to be far more financially restricted and therefore unwelcoming of a woman with such obvious access to a lifestyle of tree hugs and maxi dresses. This kind of thing, plus her cancer video on the beach, doesn’t sit well with the public. It seems insensitive and way off mark. She must envy her sister so very much: the freedom of private wealth and the ease to flaunt it however one wants. Sophie & Edward should be the next ones in. I’m no great fan of either, but at least they seem to be grown ups who take some of what they do seriously.

  28. BeanieBean says:

    Whose footage did they plagiarize?

  29. wolfmamma says:

She really is clueless and so very disconnected from reality, let alone Mother Earth. Yikes – who advised her that this would be a good idea?

  30. Tiff says:

These comments are so funny. I also appreciate Penny telling us the origin of England’s Mothering Sunday.

I agree with others. I don’t think Kate had an unaltered photo to present. That’s weird. It’s like some group has advised the middletons to keep distance from George. I still believe Kate is being phased out.

  31. Beverley says:

The divorce is on for sure! I can’t see William staying married while Charles is close to shuffling off his mortal coil. The last thing Bullyam wants is for KKKHate to become queen. I will laugh and laugh if she never becomes queen. All that scheming and posturing, all for what?

  32. JFerber says:

I hate her. I hate him. Somehow the contemptuous look that is his trademark was photo shopped out of the pic. This is a TOTAL copycat of the illustrious Sussexes in California. Kate and Will were NEVER all snuggly and in love. Never. They both had the lowest motives for getting together and staying together (if they really are together). I do not believe it for a minute. Not one minute. Frauds and liars. And a whole lot more.
