I don’t know why the Mail is still churning through a royal biography that came out last year, but here we are. Robert Hardman’s Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story came out in January 2024 to widespread ambivalence. The book got a second life (briefly) later in the year, when Hardman added new chapters blaming Prince Harry for King Charles’s refusal to be anything other than a dogs-t father. Hardman also devoted some new chapters the Great Kate Disappearance, and it felt like Prince William’s minions were working overtime to complain and explain about the unfairness of that kind of scrutiny. Well, now the Mail has a new piece in which they’re emphasizing the palaces’ reactions to Prince Harry’s Spare. I’m sure some of this is old info, but I guess I missed the part about how William and Kate are selectively illiterate when it comes to Harry’s memoir. Some highlights from the Mail:
The Windsors were shocked by the name of Prince Harry’s memoir: The Royal Family was still reeling from the death of the Queen in September 2022 when they received another dose of incredibly bad news. Prince Harry’s apprehensively awaited memoir would be titled ‘Spare’. His publisher Penguin Random House made the announcement on October 27, just 49 days after the Queen’s death and the British public’s heartfelt goodbye.
They worried that Harry’s story would be sympathatic?? Perhaps due to its promise of ‘raw, unflinching honesty’, when the announcement was made, those in the royal court of King Charles III braced themselves for the worst. After all, it wasn’t hard to see the narrative Harry had been building for some time in his media interviews, but the name of the book all but confirmed it. He would be painting himself as a victim of the Royal Family who had been treated poorly and cast aside.
How Buckingham Palace reacted to the Spare news: On the day the announcement was released to the Press, it eclipsed all other royal news, despite the Royal Mint striking the first coins with the face of the new King. When asked about the King’s feeling on the incoming fire from the Sussexes and their associates, one Palace staffer referred to them ‘headwinds that we face from across the Atlantic’, according to Hardman. The author wrote: ‘That was one way of describing an extraordinary 12-week run of non-stop disobliging headlines and combative allegations, all of them entirely beyond the control of the King and his staff. Storm-force gales might have been a better metaphor. That this should all be unfolding in the first phase of a new reign might once have been considered disastrous. However, there were two unexpected aspects to these ‘headwinds’ which would work in Charles III’s favour. First, the constant diet of extraneous negativity, though awkward and at times embarrassing, made very little impact, according to polls, on public attitudes towards the monarchy. Second, it appeared to have no discernible impact on the King himself.’
They worried about the Caribbean: One of the biggest concerns about the upcoming Spare, according to Hardman, was the fact that as much of the Caribbean gets its news through US outlets, and the US media was generally more sympathetic to Harry and Meghan. There was concern that Megxit played directly into this debate and Spare could be a massive blow to the Firm’s reputation abroad. Meghan’s friend Omid Scobie revealed the controversial title for the autobiography was the Prince’s own choice and he had not changed the manuscript since the death of the Queen.
William & Kate refused to read Spare: Though no members of the Royal Family have publicly commented on Harry’s foray into novel writing, it’s understood the reaction behind the scenes was one of pain. But Hardman’s sources on Prince William and Catherine’s staff remain adamant that he and the Princess refused to open the book which caused them so much suffering. One of their senior advisers told the author: ‘Neither of them read it. He is a grown-up, 40-year-old with the BBC app on his phone so he knows what it says. But he has people like me to tell him what else he needs to know. We gave him the key points.’
The palaces worried about how much Harry had left out: Hardman wrote that for the Palace, the most worrying aspect of the book was the omission of ‘large chunks of more recent events’. It did not go unnoticed that Harry and Meghan’s wedding, their married life and their eventual departure from the royal world amounted to only less than a fifth of the memoir. Despite the couple having a jam-packed life of book worthy moments, recent events had been mostly omitted. ‘This suggested either a sequel or, perhaps, a memoir by Meghan in due course’, Hardman wrote.
I remember reading multiple reports that Charles refused to read Spare as well, which I still think is one of the dumbest and most asinine decisions he’s ever made. Charles is known as a great reader as well – if he ever picked up Spare, he would find that his youngest son adores him and yearns for a closer relationship. As for Will and Kate… lol. I mean… I think both of them read parts of Spare, just as they obsessively watch, follow and copy everything Harry and Meghan do. But what an official cover story: the heir is too stupid, too illiterate and too stage-managed by staff to sit down and read a book written by his brother.

Note to the Fail:
The correct way to report on this would have been —
The Lamebridges refused to read the book which detailed the suffering they caused to Meghan and Harry.
Please. The palace lies. If they didn’t read it – unlikely – they def followed every tiny excerpt in the media. And more than likely listened to the audio book.
That was my thought, they listen to the audiobook so they can say with a straight face that they didn’t read the book.
IDK, I think Charles is too vain to read it (lest he be rightly critiqued for his parenting skills) and William and Kate are too lazy to bother.
He read at least some of Diana’s book. He said he knew she’d been involved in it because he could hear his wife’s voice throughout the text. He used to listen to Harry Potter audio books so he is someone who listens to audio books. Williams more likely to listen than read.
Of course if they had been nice to Harry and Meghan they would have nothing to fear, they know that Harry tells the truth. If it were a made up pack of lies they would have said so.
“But he has people like me to tell him what else he needs to know.” I’m sure this suits the incurious Will and Kate fine, but I would be surprised at Charles not reading for himself. It also shows a disregard for Harry’s thoughts and feelings that I am not surprised about. I doubt Kate and Will have the attention span to read anything much. Any leader (even these who are just figureheads) should be reading things for himself instead of being told his opinions and thoughts for him.
I like the quote better as: “He is a grown up, 40-year old…But he has people like me to tell him what else he needs to know.” Really captures the flavor of the dimwit that is William.
Yeah that part was…funny. Someone is real high on the fact that they decide what William needs to know, jeez.
Just think, any villain can worm his or her way into Peg’s inner circle and tell him what to think. Very unsettling.
I’m sure Charles has his people doing the same, even if he ultimately reads things. Always had this picture of one of the three pestilentials running in to see Charles immediately after Spare was published, relevant book sections highlighted (i.e., Camilla, dangerous). Charles kicked Harry and family out of Frogmore so fast after Spare came out I doubted whether he’d had the time to read the whole thing himself, just listened to what he was being told. (Assume Camilla had someone doing the same for her.)
Yes, these aides, assistants, and PS have an inordinate amount of power, as Harry described in the book. And it’s always a potential question whose agenda is being served – the monarchy’s, or their own. Will is just dumb. But Charles has been known as a ditherer – have seen a quote (wish I could remember where) that Charles’ decisions are often based on the last person who has his ear when he leaves a room.
Just like Trump. Gee, what a surprise.
I feel 100% confident at least Camilla read it. And I think that explains a lot of the anger around the book since she definitely comes off worse than Charles.
And if Kate didn’t read it, then her mom or Pippa did. and thats probably what happened because it gives plausible deniability to the whole “of course Charles and William didn’t read it.”
Carole read it and then told Kate ‘what she needs to know’. I think that’s their MO.
Hell yeah, Camilla read it. Hasn’t she admitted to watching the crown. And yeah I think that is a big reason why there is still a rift. Bc she is very angry that she was characterized as leaving bodies in the street. Imagine after years and years of careful rehabilitation and prostrating oneself to the tabloid press…harry goes and blows that up. As for Carole, I can believe she just read the parts about Kate.
To be fair, I’m positive they both regularly refuse to open ANY book.
Kate probably looked at passages about herself.
I bet she’d have been disappointed that the “grow your own girlfriend kit” Christmas gift she and Carole gave to Harry didn’t make the cut.
How hilarious! And look at Harry now, the accomplished, financially independent Meghan overshadows Lazy in every single character trait that matters. Lazy is trapped like Willie in the Windsor shitshow. I hope they both lead long and miserable lives in their gilded tabloid cage.
True 😂
They both lack curiosity. Willie would prefer to read the Aston Villa forums result Lazy likes to click on fashion websites.
That was my first thought—either of them reads anything? We know Charles is a reader, but the Queen was said not to be a reader. I doubt William reads anything for work or enjoyment. Kate may read beach books. If either of them read anything half-way serious you know they’d drop a mention during one of their (infrequent) engagements.
I don’t think either of them reads. We hear about Netflix and what series they’re watching but never anything about any kind of book whatsoever. And Kate at least seems to avoid anything relating to books or authors. That may be because reading belongs to Camilla, but there are so many young up and coming authors out there (or just up and coming, young or not) and having Kate attend a book festival or something could bring a lot of attention to unknown authors or titles.
It feels notable that you never hear them say to someone “I was just reading X book……” Like EVER.
William was sitting on a balcony reading during the infamous nude photos scandal in France. He was ignoring Kate who kept trying to get his attention by taking different bikinis out onto the balcony and changing into them. He ignored her and kept reading his book. Eventually she just stood naked and asked him to rub sun lotion oh her. It worked, he put down his book and kissed her.
Yeah, the headline could have read: “William and Kate refuse to open a book”
The past where Charles had an authorized biography based on interviews with Dimbleby, is forgotten. He was a lot harsher than Harry could even imagine . Charles complained about his parents. He also said he would “continue to see” Camilla. I think the Keens read Spare. They are real hypocrites in that family. Plus the “confessions” of Sophie Wessex to the fake sheik where she called the Queen the “little dear” and said C and C were the most unpopular people in the UK Kate and William can’t hold any moral high ground, considering all.
Yeah whenever I hear anyone cry about how Harry betrayed the royal family I have to roll my eyes. Charles said worse in the Dimbleby book so Harry is no more a traitor than the current king is.
I read an excerpt of that book (couldn’t stand to read the whole thing) and it was a ‘daddy made me go to the mean school where I learned a work ethic!’ feel (I’m summarizing, it was a long time ago that I read it) and every time I hear about Will, his tantrums and his laziness…
I just throw up my hands. You didn’t step in and parent, Chuckles. It’s all on you.
Gordonstaun ended up a bad fit for Charles but it, and its founder Kurt Hahn, were regarded as progressive for the time. Philip loved it and blossomed there so he didn’t send Charles to be mean. He just failed to understand his son was a much different character. Anne would’ve done great there but it wasn’t coed then. She sent Peter and Zara though.
Lol! Well, I’m a writer and I’ve discovered if I want to hide something from my family, the surest method is to publish it. But the idea that no one in the royal family has read “the thing that caused them so much suffering” is a total crack up! How can something you haven’t read make you suffer? Why would you let a bunch of grubby staffers spoon-feed you talking points rather than finding out for yourself? Lazy, incurious, dumb are all words that come to mind. Im listening to COFF on Lemonada right now—Meghan was so above the left-behinds and stories like this show they knew it. No way they’d ever dim her shine for long.
@KeKe Swan
Which just goes to show how much of a set of tools the so-called king and future king are and completely at the end of strings held by their courtiers and “senior secretaries.”
Because if the “royals” only know what theyre told by their handlers, in the hands of corrupt, narcissistic Machiavellians, they can be told and be made to believe anything.
H hinted at this in regards to betty. In the Oprah interview I recall when H told her how betty herself had invited H&M to stop by her on their way home from Canada and then when they were about to board the plane for england, they got a frantic call on behalf of betty’s snr secretary/advisor that on no account must H&M attempt to see the queen. Then when H called betty on their arrival in england and asked her if he was wrong when he heard her say she was free and had invited them to visit her. Then she said she had been subsequently told that she was not free; that in fact, her calendar for the week was full.
So an incredulous Oprah said: “but….she’s the queen. Isnt she the one who determines what she does?” Then poor H, who obviously didnt want it to appear that his grandma was completely at the mercy of her handlers, said, yes she’s the queen but she has advisors.
Then, being H and knowing that those fuckers were in fact usurping their role and taking advantage of the aging queen, he added that sometimes the advisors were wrong/gave bad advice.
Then in Spare, he really went to town on them, saying the Bee, Wasp and Fly had indeed made themselves into the monarch and were running amok in the institution.
🎯 Why would anyone want to advertise his ignorance?
The RF never hesitates to FA but really hates to FO.
Oh poor royals how they suffered. William found enough “strength” to get Knauf busy on a fake investigation.
They all refused to watch The Crown too, IIRC? 🙂
Can’t and Peg don’t bother to read the detail sheets when doing their events so it stands to reason the sure wouldn’t want to read Spare that told the ugly truth about them.
I do kind of love the detail that they were shocked and worried just by Harry naming the book Spare. And yeah for the majority of the people who read it, Harry does come across as sympathetic. And actually I thought he gave a lot of detail about the wedding lead-up and their first year. Or at least he very specifically addressed every tabloid lie that was written and then corrected it. But the fact that they think that section was vague tells me that there’s a whole lot more that went down during that time than anyone knows.
I found the title really heartbreaking and sympathetic. I mean its just something I never really processed – like we “know” he was the spare, we know it was the whole “heir and a spare” thing when Diana had him, we know Kate was praised for providing two spares. I “knew” Harry to know that’s how he was considered.
But there’s knowing and “knowing,” you know? (lol). Like reading how he knew he was the spare, he knew he was there to give William a kidney or whatever if he needed it, knowing he was always always #2 in a family built on hierarchy and was treated that way growing up by everyone except his mother……
I think there’s a reason he started the book with her death, and not just because it was one of the most pivotal moments of his life. I think it was the moment he realized he was just the spare because there was no one left to treat him otherwise.
anyway sorry to ramble lol. I agree with you too about the courtship/wedding planning – I thought it was pretty detailed. The fact that they think it was sparse is very very telling.
Well-said about how we all just sort of accepted that he was the spare. That’s what he’d always been called but that’s different than thinking about what it felt like to truly realize as a kid that you were the spare. It would be one thing if he had parents that loved him and treated him equally but like you say once his mom passed, who was left to really do that? And my nosy-self deeply wants to know what they think was left out.
Just to add, I think the title was also a heads-up that Harry wasn’t going to play cute and that the book was going to go in.
I thought Spare was the perfect title for his book.
Their loss for not reading Spare.
I bet Camilla, the evil stepmother, has though. How can she not when the Palaces were in immediate fury over Harry’s descriptions of her.
As for Willie, he may not have read Spare, but millions have. So every interaction he has with people he meets for the first time – politicians, diplomats, business people, actors etc – some of them would have definitely read Spare and in their mind would be clouded by what Harry has written about him. They would be thinking what an awful person he is to be so jealously violent towards his brother and his wife. As Harry said, “Space.”
Both Willie and Lazy refuse to read Spare at their peril. Definitely Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette vibes. Spare has shown how they overworked Harry, and their sense of ignorant superiority because of their position means that people in government both domestic and international have to manage the dumb, lazy ones when they ascend. Just like Trump.
I doubt that they (Kate and William) have the attention span to sit down and read a book. This begs the question, how did these two manage to earn university degrees? Didn’t that involve some reading comprehension?
Imagine flunking the heir to the heir if he was taking your class. I’m sure you would receive a visit from the men in grey.
I bet that’s why he switched to Geography. IIRC one of his art history lecturers kicked himself figuratively for not mentioning the paintings that were already on view at Buck Palace. I bet Willie was bored out of his mind in those classes.
Kate was known to copy off her seatmates in class. Years ago before Meghan entered the picture, there were people posting in the comments that she would copy from those who sat near her and one put false answers once to fool her. I have read similar comments from a gawker article years ago.
William passed because he wasn’t going to get failed, even though he almost did and that’s why he moved out of art history.
Lazy graduated with first class honours with her Mrs Degree from St Andrew’s. Carole’s best investment ever.
@Blogger
Who knows what old Middleton promised the school or the lecturer for passing her studies. Maybe he wrote her work himself?:)))
Considering her lack of knowledge on any subject, poor vocabulary and problem with putting together a single sentence, she shouldn’t have finished primary school. She’s as stupid as a brick, that’s why she fits so well with William and that’s why they hate each other so much, because in the other they see what they themselves are and they don’t like it:)
Oh goodness, they announced the title ” just 49 days after the Queen died!”, these people. I don’t understand how you can simultaneously blame a book for all of your troubles of recent years, and say but I’ve not formed that opinion myself someone else has told me what I should be bothered by. And to say this with your whole chest like that’s not something a ” leader” should be ashamed of.
Also why is it shocking that Harry only spent 1/5 of a book talking about the past ( at that point) six years of his life? That seems like a pretty reasonable split for a book that came out when he was what 36? 37? They wanted him to divulge more details about his and Meghan’s private life and what they were doing so that they could have more articles to write, that’s it.
Dee(2), when I read that, my first thought was they REALLY want Harry or Meghan to write a tell all.
These people are such drama queens, I swear.
I’m sure it was such great pain to be racist bullies, boohoo WanK 🙄
And Kate probably secretly listens to Harry’s audiobook while playing with “steely dan”
Omid Scobie is not (and never has been) Meghan’s friend.
Lol, they’re shocked by the word “spare”? The whole point of an hereditary monarchy is to produce an heir and a spare. You’d think they’d be used to it after 1,000 years.
I don’t understand the bit about the Caribbean, partly because it isn’t a complete sentence. Are W&K blaming their Caribbean Disaster on H&M? Are they saying the rest of the world likes H&M best? And what does the title “Spare” have to do with the Caribbean?
As for the RF relying on others to tell them what’s in the book – they rely on others to tie their shoes and put toothpaste on their tooth brushes, why wouldn’t they have people to read for them, too?
I think their concern lies in the fact that the Caribbean region gets more (and perhaps prefers more) of their news media from the US. And US media wouldn’t be as fawning and sycophantic about the royals.
But W&K’s Disaster Tour was 9 months before Spare was published. Edward and Sophie’s Disaster Tour was 8 months before Spare. So, clearly, the book had nothing to do with these failures. And it’s not like these countries were super content with British imperialism until they suddenly read some articles about H&M.
Pretty sure it was the racist cosplay and treating the tour like a holiday that tanked the tour. Harry’s book had nothing to do with it.
🎯
Funny how WanK not reading it did nothing.. it is still a record setting bestseller. I bet Willy is listening to the audiobook I’ve noticed they emphasize he isn’t a reader a lot so I’m assuming he is close to illiterate because who doesn’t read? No one I know thats for sure.
It’s great that they haven’t read it, no more need for any hysterics. Willy is not upset by anything written about Kate and Charles isn’t upset about anything written about Camilla. Absolutely no one believes they haven’t read the book
Harry was far more diplomatic and kind than the leftovers deserved in Spare. He could have outright burned the house of Windsor to the ground, but took the high ground and didn’t spill tea th a t wasn’t his to spare. He could have published details about Willy that would have tainted him forever, shared nasty details about Camilla’s children, named the royal racists, and detailed the Middleton grift/Keener’s mattress years. Willy and Keener were scared sh!tless that Harry would spill all the beans. Willy is a paranoid bully who is obsessed with every word written about him from respected publications all the way down to message boards. Willy read Spare. Or. Listened to the audiobook because he is too lazy to read. KPs media strategy is too incompetent for anyone other than Willy to be directing it.
This struck me:
“… an extraordinary 12-week run of non-stop disobliging headlines and combative allegations, all of them entirely beyond the control of the King and his staff.”
How terribly inconvenient for them not to be able to control the worldwide press like that.
That’s the thing though. It’s always been about control for Chuck. When Harry left, he went rogue like his mother. And Camilla might rule the British press, but she doesn’t control the rest of the world’s media.
Ah, sorry but is ‘disobliging’ a word. Geez!
🎯
Is Hardman stupid? Harry and Meghan spoke about the wedding and what happened after that in the docuseries. Spare was essentially about his life prior to meeting Meghan.
“it eclipsed all other royal news, despite the Royal Mint striking the first coins with the face of the new King”
How DARE they! Hahahahaaaa seriously, you can almost see them stomping their feet … “B-b-b-but my COIN came out today! What about my COIN!!!”
Idiots.
😂😂😂
That was another one of those sentences where I thought, do you not read what you’ve written???? You want that thought to go out into the world??? A memoir written by a member of the BRF eclipsed a…coin??? And you’re upset????
That made me laugh, too.
They are so oblivious.
I can guarantee that William and Kate and Charles each had their own staffer read Spare and then identify the passages about them. I know Kate read all the stuff directly relating to her. There wasn’t that much anyway.
Planted BS. They know exactly what’s in it or they wouldn’t be “so much suffering.” They would HAVE to have read it. Who are they kidding with these schoolyard-level digs?
I’m sure they didn’t read the actual book but read the relevant excerpts and were fully briefed on it
A society and culture is very sick without any compassion and absolutely inadequate in human terms when newspapers earn their money with these endless nasty, provocative and untrue articles and the ruling class tolerates or supports this.
Succinct & true. No notes. 👏
True or not, they always say things like this, and they think the impression is that they can’t be bothered to give it the time of day. But when you have a “senior advisor” sniff that they have people like them to tell them what it says, it actually gives the impression of them as a bunch of uninformed lackeys being controlled like puppets.
And that’s exactly what they are.
In Spare, Harry talked about William attacking him and belittling him most of his life, but it’s Harry who has caused so much pain? Gtfo you narc. As for Kate there really wasn’t much there, which sums her up completely. She’s just William’s henchman who probably thought she would have her own personal target to bully in Meghan.
I don’t get the Caribbean bit. Pretty lame inference. As this is a memoir, it makes sense that Harry not make it wholly about the couple years of his life. And finally, I don’t believe for a second that either Kate or William is a reader, so not cracking open Harry’s book makes complete sense. And as that guy said, William has people like him (sycophants) to tell him what to think. Or, excuse me, ‘tell him what he needs to know’. Gah! I don’t want anyone telling me what I need to know; I’ll make that decision myself.
They don’t strike me as the book reading kind tho…
Right!?! Coulda stopped at “refused to read.”
I said the same above, before I saw your comment, Lilly.
Audio maybe? I kind of get a kick out of imagining Kate and William having Harry personally narrate their bullshit back to them. Imagine Kate hearing how she was white-knuckling the chair over baby-brain and the fact that the Sussexes dared to not give them extra special Easter gifts.
. I actually thought that ‘baby brain’ was a nice excuse for forgetfulness, a friendly joke and that William sticking his finger into Meghan’s face was an appalling reaction.
“… the most worrying aspect of the book was the omission of ‘large chunks of more recent events’”, “.. Despite the couple having a jam-packed life of book worthy moments, recent events had been , mostly omitted. ‘This suggested either a sequel or, perhaps, a memoir by Meghan in due course’.”
The still untold trued(s), and H&M’s massive and unstoppable popularity, are the reasons why Willy and Charles are continuing to go out of their ways, not only to sabotage H&M in every possible way, with the help of their media/press/tabloid/political friends & allies, but also to harm, and even better, unalive them. Only then will they, in their minds, be freed from this gigantic Sward of Damocles.
Harry, let that royals protection/security, you’re fighting tooth and nail for, go. It’s not gonna do you and your wife and kids any good, in the long-term.
A “family” reading tabloids every day can’t bother reading a book? That doesn’t say good things about the future leaders of UK.
“I’m really, really upset about what you wrote in that book I didn’t read” isn’t the take that the ratchets think it is. It tells us a lot about Cain and Unable: they are childish, ignorant, and completely dependent on their staff. They have an office full of Iagos that play them like fiddles–stoking their fears and petty grievances toward anyone the staffers want. No wonder their staff gets away with working 40 hours a month. All they have to do is tell the Dull Duo exactly what they want to hear.
Of course they read it or skimmed through it to find parts where they are mentioned. But they have to pretend they haven’t read it so they can’t be asked directly about any specific parts.
Even Camilla said, “has she ever picked up a book? “
Notice it says “…..Harry’s foray into novel writing”. They want the readers to think that it’s not true, just fiction.
Yep. And yet they haven’t denied a single important fact from it … because they can’t.
I refuse to believe that William and Kate didn’t read the book. If your brother and/or brother in law wrote a book that might paint you in a bad light woukd you really be able to resist reading it? I wouldn’t be able to just rely on aide’s summaries of it, I woukd absolutely be compelled to read it as soon as possible. I think they just can’t admit that they read it because they want to come off as unbothered by it and/or be able to claim that they can’t comment because they never read it if they’re ever pointedly asked about certain parts of it. Charles on the other hand – he’s such an odd duck, that maybe I can believe that he didn’t read it. This is a guy that lets servants put toothpaste on his toothbrush after all, so maybe he literally woukd be satisfied with servants / aides doing the reading for him.
It’s only human to read about yourself. There is no way this narcissistic family didn’t devour that book, fearing what they would see.
I had to laugh at the quote about how the book didn’t change Charles’ approval ratings or people’s opinions of him- because NO ONE LIKES YOU Charles, you dithering twit!
How could a book you didn’t read cause you pain?
What a rubbish story , they scrape the bottom of the barrel every time they write something .
They want Meghan to write a memoir so bad lmaoooo.
Can you imagine?? I am dying for that book.
Maybe Kate for one thing should not have been such a diva in the run up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding demanding new gowns for attendants. She is upset because there is proof that she behaved badly.
