I didn’t go into the new Dune franchise thinking that I would enjoy it or even care enough to follow it. But I LOVED the first Dune movie, and Dune 2 was amazing! Both films deserved more critical love and awards-season love, in my opinion. Denis Villeneuve’s adaptations are really accessible, not to mention some of the prettiest films I’ve seen in a long time. I still think about that scene in the first Dune with Oscar Issac after he’s been stripped of all of his clothes… the way Villeneuve shot that is amazing. Anyway, Dune 2 turned Austin Butler into a real-deal movie star, his performance was completely bonkers and he got so much love for going berserk there. So who’s next? Reportedly, Villeneuve wants Robert Pattinson!!

Even as Denis Villeneuve puts the finishing touches on the script for the next installment in the Dune franchise, the director already has his sights set on a new addition to the all-star ensemble. While sources close to the project say no formal offer has been presented, Deadline is hearing there is strong interest in Robert Pattinson joining the cast. Legendary had no comment.

The film already features an A-list ensemble that includes Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Zendaya, and many are expected to return. Even so, a handful of new roles remain and, as with any Dune project, stars are lining up at the chance to appear in the Oscar-winning franchise.

While confirmed, sources say Pattinson would play the villain role of Scytale.

As Deadline previously reported, the plan is to shoot the film this summer. Villeneuve is returning to direct.

I couldn’t follow the Dune Wiki (I am not reading the books either), but if Pattinson signs on to play Scytale, the role would be major, comparable to what Butler did in Dune 2. I would love to see Timothee Chalamet, Paul Atreides aka Muad’Dib, having to act against Pattinson. It would be a good move for Pattinson too, and I hope he calls up Villeneuve and they figure out a way to do it.
