This was the first time I’ve ever picked a winner at a dog show. I knew it, I knew as soon as I saw Sadie the Scottish terrier adorable, spunky little gait, and her outstretched little paws that this dog was a star. And she won! Sadie was crowned Best in Show last night at Westminster, beating out a poodle, a Brittany, and a French bulldog, amongst others. But Sadie was the star! Probably because she knows the words “hot dog” in five languages. For real!
With an entourage bigger than Leonardo DiCaprio’s, the city’s top dog took her victory lap around Manhattan Wednesday morning. Sadie, the Scottish terrier crowned a night earlier as Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club championship, was enjoying the perks of her triumph.
“You are gorgeous!” cooed Whoopi Goldberg, sharing some chicken with Sadie before they both went on “The View.”
The top pooch earlier outshone movie superstar DiCaprio, arriving with her bevy of attendants for CBS’s “Early Show.”
The star of the upcoming “Shutter Island” only appeared once Sadie’s spot was over.
“So Leonardo was right after us!” laughed her handler, Gabriel Rangel.“She can be a diva, if it makes her a great show dog,” said David Frei, Westminster’s communications director.
Sadie soaked up the attention, offering a smile as people stroked her beard. She was generally very composed – although she did yawn on national television while appearing on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and barked at the first camera put in her face before breakfast.
“I think she knows,” said Rangel. “She’s very aware of everything.”
Sadie only got two or three hours of sleep after her late-night victory. She started with her entourage of 11 at 6 a.m., hitting all the morning talk shows.
“That’s the dog that won the show!” exclaimed passersby as she was whisked from one spot to another.
On “Good Morning America,” Sadie was rushed into a makeup room, where she perched on her chair and leaned to check herself out in the mirror.
Rangel brushed out her beard, twisted her lengthy eyebrows and spritzed her with water.
After “The View,” Sadie’s schedule includes a visit with Donald Trump and a trip to the top of the Empire State Building.

One of the cutest parts about Sadie’s victory is that after she was named, all of the other trainers gathered around to shake Rangel’s hand – and Sadie put her little paws up in the air like she was asking for praise (or a hot dog). I love dogs!
Also, at the event last night, PETA tried to protest, and two of them even got onto the floor. Security got to them quickly, though, and they were charged with “criminal trespass”.
Aren’t dogs great? Oh yes, yes they are.
Awww…Cute. I like Sadie and she deserved to win, but just once I’d like to see some big, slobbery, dog win that category, too.
Susette – I know! I love big dogs. Mine is a 100 lb. black monster, so I went “racial” and cheered on the black dog. Plus, Sadie had the most personality.
Oh my lord. Beyond cute!
I actually went to this event… So much fun! All those dogs are champions and they were all very beautiful.
It is weird how much the trainers feed the dogs while they are on stage to keep them complacent… And it’s plain gross when the trainers keep the food in their mouths and chew it and break it up and then feed it to the dogs.
Cute cute cute!
She looks like a sweetie! I saw her earlier on MSNBC and she just melts my heart. And had quite a bark.
Who doesn’t LOVE a d.o. double g. !!
* When I was young.. b4 marriage.. my Mom always said. “Make sure the man you give your heart to loves two things. His mother and dogs.” Mom was right ( as usual )*
@Kaiser – LOL! Mine’s a 90lb black mutt.
@Queen Bee – I could never actually be present at one of those things. I don’t know if I could resist storming the stage to scratch their ears and rub their bellies.
Now this is a reality tv celebrity I can get behind! Yay Sadie!
I missed watching the show this year!
Sadie is adorable!
What was PETA protesting about this time?
Team terrier for me, with 4 Airedales and a Wire Fox Terrier. But I thought she was going to win, too. Sadly, the Airedale, did not show as well as I would have liked. Also, the WFT was a bit nervous while being examined, while Sadie was cool as a cucumber, while being a charmer during her walk around the ring.

Best advice ever! I knew I had found the man of my dreams when I walked out for our first date and found my Australian Shepherd loving all over his black suit-and him loving it!
Congrats to the Scottie. My favorite in the final was the Hungarian Puli, loved his dreds.
I’m partial to Hungarian breeds, love my Vizlas.
I’m more of a cat person, but that last picture is adorable!
This is a hottie scottie! This Scot is much cuter than the one you usually post about.
My Scottie is 4 1/2 yrs old and is a darling. His name is Baxter. Sadie is gorgeous!!
If you want a snuggle buddy, Scotties are great. They are just happy being where YOU are.
oh my gawd, so cute! I love Scottish terriers
I love this story!
This story made my day 🙂
Alright Sadie!!!
I saw Sadie last night on TV and thought she was a cutie and by the crowds reaction to her, I’m not surprised that she won.
Sadie is a damned fine little dog. I am partial to the herding breeds-but just love love love her. She’s was the #1 dog in the USA for 2009. Can’t wait to see what she does at Crufts in the UK next month.
About time that a bitch with talent actually got recognized 😉
Wow, that doggie has more personality than all those anaemic wenches on the Vanity Fair cover put together!
Rock on Sadie!
Oh, and shut up PETA. 🙄
She’s so damn cute I just wanna pick her up and cuddle her!
Aww she is ADORABLE! I always pull for the Boxers but they never seem to win. Next time….
@ Susette
I know!! I’m partial to the working group. For once I’d like to see a dane or mastiff win.
But the toys and terriers win, mostly.
