Courtney Love has granted yet another extensive interview, this time to Spin magazine. By the way, the reason Courtney has been talking so much is because she’s promoting Hole’s new album, their first in five years. On Monday, we had an excerpt of Courtney’s talk at the Oxford Student Union – that was where she discussed her love of Greek myths, feminism, Rilke and how Kurt Cobain’s suicide “wasn’t cool.” For this interview (an excerpt of which is at Spin’s site), Courtney talks in more detail about how Frances (The Bean) went to live with Kurt’s family, and how Courtney thinks they just want to get their hands on The Bean’s money:

Courtney Love has never been shy about speaking her mind, and the rocker is characteristically unabashed in a new interview with Spin magazine.

When asked about daughter Frances Bean, 17, who currently has a restraining order against her mom, Love points a finger at the family of her late husband Kurt Cobain.

“Those snarly-ass O’Connors want checks,” she says in Spin slated to hit newsstands Feb. 23, referring to her late husband’s family. “I’m through supporting their asses.”

Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor and his younger sister, Kimberly, currently have legal, medical and financial authority over the teenager. Despite losing legal control of Frances Bean, Love, 45, says she’s focused on making her new album, Nobody’s Daughter, a success.

“One time, Frances was being mean and said, ‘What are you going to do if the record fails?’ ” Love reveals. “Well, Frances, it can’t fail because I love it, and I’ve worked really hard to make sure that I love it.”

But, the magazine reports, Love is not as gruff as she sometimes seems and tears up at the mention of her daughter, saying, “I’m lost in a [expletive] nightmare maze.”

The singer revealed her feelings about her daughter on Twitter last week, writing, “My daughter has been kidnapped and i am going to take it? Of course i was beyond angry, despondent suicidal in every way.”

However, in the Spin interview, she references suicide again while discussing drugs. “I don’t take anything that isn’t prescribed to me,” she says. “Cocaine, narcotics – those would be tantamount to suicide, and I’m not suicidal.”

I suppose it would be convenient to think of Courtney as a victim – a victim of her husband’s suicide, a victim of her late husband’s family’s money-hungry ways, a victim of her teenage daughter’s machinations and power plays. But in case you do feel sorry for Courtney, Spin Magazine has one of the most perfect summations on the Courtney’s life lately: “During the past decade, sundry cracked-out antics, including an OxyContin OD in front of her daughter, fueled macabre speculation regarding Love’s mental state. And just recently, a Los Angeles court awarded guardianship of 17-year-old Frances Bean to Love’s late husband Kurt Cobain’s mother, Wendy O’Connor, and sister, Kimberly Dawn Cobain, amid rumors of domestic abuse. Love’s coping mechanism is, as ever, pure manic energy, which is not to be confused with productivity.” Oh really?!? Well played, Spin.
