Omid Scobie made a seven-figure book deal for his novel ‘Royal Spin’

Omid Scobie has been living in the US for a few years now, having burned down the last of his British royalist media bridges with his 2023 book Endgame. Last year, there was a bidding war on Scobie’s planned fiction book, Royal Spin, and there were plans afoot to make the book into a TV series. The Daily Mail threw a tantrum and claimed that Scobie’s planned novel was just a barely-fictional take on the Duchess of Sussex’s experience, which was obviously incorrect. Well, in any case, the Mail has an update about the man they refer to as “Harry and Meghan’s mouthpiece.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s mouthpiece Omid Scobie has scooped a six-figure deal for his ‘royal romcom’, Royal Spin. The royal reporter, 43, who now lives a mere two-hour drive away from the Sussexes in LA, previously penned two explosive biographies about the couple, called Finding Freedom and Endgame.

Sphere Fiction has won the ‘hotly contested’ five-way auction for a lucrative six-figure sum led by commissioning editor Rebecca Roy, according to the Bookseller.

The book, co-written with US young adult fiction author Robin Benway, tells the story of a young American woman called Lauren Morgan, who ditches her press role at the White House for one at Buckingham Palace. The character then enters ‘a hotbed of office politics where tradition (almost) always wins’, with the book described as a ‘fun, fish-out-of-water romantic workplace comedy’.

Royal Spin, due to be published in early 2026, is Scobie’s first venture into fiction – with the love triangle tale featuring a ‘very handsome Duke’ who gets a ‘PR makeover’ as Lauren’s first project. The anticipated release is also set to come to the big screen, as Universal Television is developing a series based on the book, with Scobie serving as writer, co-creator and executive producer. Benway will also serve as executive producer, alongside showrunner Emily Fox.

As Scobie pointed out on social media, the deal was actually seven-figures, not six. And good for him! It sounds like Scobie’s editors and producers loved his pitch and they’ve worked out a really lucrative package for the property. It’s also hilarious that the Mail is once again acknowledging that Montecito isn’t part of Los Angeles – “The royal reporter, 43, who now lives a mere two-hour drive away from the Sussexes in LA…” So they’ve stopped conflating Montecito and LA, although they still believe that Scobie is somehow in league with the Sussexes. He is not – he has good sources in the Sussex camp, for sure, but that’s mostly because he hasn’t just accepted the palace’s attack line on Harry and Meghan.

Their mouthpiece? How unprofessional. They are so bitter about success that I don’t get it. Like they seem to legitimately dislike people that are successful. Is it just the racism? Is it a cultural thing about not ” getting too big for your boots”?

What is it? Because the thing is all Omid is, is fair. He’s not a huge sycophant, he’s gotten things wrong, he’s commented at times where I think he shouldn’t have, he’s basically a normal person covering their specialized area of journalism. But for some reason they act like it’s so diabolical.

It’s projection because the real mouth pieces are the royal press.

    • Advisor2U says:

DF is rehashing old news, which they deliberately ignored the first time, and now they are downplaying his success and massive earnings.
Well, they can stay bitter and jealous, and keep on bullying him, by calling him H&M’s mouthpiece, but he doesn’t care about these losers anymore. Whilst most of them – the royal gossips/”experts”/commentators – are making their cheap rounds on TV and in the press by making up stuff, spinning stories, and licking the left-behind royals’ asses for 40 quid, Omid is living his best life in LA. Lol.

So happy for Scobie! Endgame was a terrific book, overshadowed by outrage over the “leaks” instead of outrage over the royal racists’ behavior.

It was so funny that the british media made fun of his book, then #kategate happened and proved everything he said in the book about how british media is working closely with the palace.

    • Advisor2U says:

Yes. And Endgame will definitely sell again when his next book and TV show come out next year. The royals did a “good job” of tasking the entire British press and media to attack that book and trying to make it flop, but that doesn’t make it go unnoticed by Hollywood. People in the industry have had their eyes on him for a long time, because they saw the quality he was delivering, so they jumped at the chance with his latest project.
Good for him. Keep earning those coins over there Omid.

  3. So suddenly they have figured out where LA and Montecito are? Good for Omid!

  4. Amy Bee says:

At least the DM has finally learned that Montecito is not in or near to LA.

Love him and his response 😂😂. Good for him making his money. God knows, he deserved it after all the sh*t they threw at him. His interview with James O’Brien (on his podcast) was very good. They talked about his start working in the british media and how white those media rooms are. It was a very nice interview, compared to the ones he gave to the british talk shows where they literally interrogated him about everything, while they never ask the other royal reporters about their sources and they just listen to all the lies about H&M without any pushback.

  6. Jais says:

He put so many details into Endgame but I’m guessing there’s more he didn’t say and some thoughts about how things went down that he doesn’t share. The rota must be green green green.

  7. therese says:

I like Scobie. I think he has a good head on his shoulders. And speaking of plastic surgery, I wish he hadn’t, because he was quite handsome, whereas now he is more beautiful. But to each his own, and he seems to be thriving, as people seem to do when they are away from the Salty Isles and the Royals.

  8. Is that so? says:

“ The royal reporter . . . previously penned two explosive biographies about the couple, called Finding Freedom and Endgame.”

When was Endgame a biography about the Sussexes?

    • Kathleen says:

“The Daily Mail threw a tantrum and claimed that Scobie’s planned novel was just a barely-fictional take on the Duchess of Sussex’s experience”. Are they finally admitting that Meghan’s experiences with the RF were largely negative?
