PETA uses Tiger Woods in a campaign for spaying and neutering

littletigers
PETA keeps making headlines with their outrageous ad campaigns. Their latest one is a litigation target for sure. They’re using Tiger Woods’ image without the golfer’s permission in a snarky ad to encourage people to have their pets spayed and neutered. It reads “To Much Sex Can Be a Bad Thing” and PETA will run it on billboards, according to Radar Online. I hope this is a hoax, but given that this is PETA and Radar has quotes from them confirming this, it’s probably true. Tiger’s lawyers will be all over that for sure.

In the ad, which will run on billboards, PETA feature a picture of Woods and the message, “Too much sex can be a bad thing….for little tigers too. Help keep cats (and dogs) out of trouble: Always Spay and neuter.”

PETA hopes to run the ads on various sites, including those near to Tiger’s Windermere, FL, home!

Not surprisingly PETA say that Woods has not endorsed the ads, going on to explain though that the image and idea were “too good to pass up.”

PETA’s Executive Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch says, “The millions of cats and dogs born each year in this country without good homes to go to don’t make tabloid headlines, but their suffering is 100 percent real.”

[From Radar Online]

PETA weighs the cost of lawsuits against the publicity they’ll get by running ads like this. They probably figure it’s worth it to use Tiger’s image against his will in return for the press they’ll get.

In our last post on PETA issuing a response to Jessica Simpson wondering whether she should get a pig, some of you mentioned the group PetaKillsAnimals. This group, which definitely has it’s own agenda, tries to expose what it says is the mass euthanasia by PETA of many of the abandoned and abused animals that it takes in. They claim that PETA put down “95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year” and almost 21,400 animals in total since 1998. In response, someone tried to comment with a link to a blog entry from PETA that shows that most of the animals it euthanizes are research animals who are already very sick and dying. The thing is, I didn’t approve that comment (comments with links go to moderation) because the article had so many truly disturbing photos of animals with huge lacerations and gaping wounds that I could barely read it.

This is just part of the reason why PETA rubs me the wrong way. I’ve also downloaded what PETA claimed were vegetarian recipes, only to find a few recipes followed by photos of animals dead and dying in terrible factory conditions. I’m asking for vegetarian recipes, which means I’m already concerned about eating meat and am trying to change, and never even received a warning! After that, I decided to ignore PETA’s materials. I don’t eat much meat at all, like I eat vegetarian more days than not, but I feel that it’s my choice to make and scare tactics are not going to change my mind.

As I said yesterday, I don’t care one wit for PETA and their “selective targeting” of people, but this is absolutely hilarious!

  2. dread pirate cuervo says:

While this is somewhat funny, if I were Tiger, I’d sue the hemp pants off PeTA.

  3. Praise St. Angie! says:

I remember hearing a quote from someone to the effect of “the only people who respond to such in-your-face tactics like PETA uses are ones who are already on their side”.

I swear, they turn off more people than they recruit. I’m all for protection of animals, but they go to ridiculous lengths to get their points across.

  4. Maleficent says:

PETA is full of a bunch of nuts, and I am no Tiger apologist, but I would sue the hell out of them. The ad is neither cute, funny nor anything to do with the message they are trying to send. Tiger didn’t have a bunch of kids due to his actions (shockingly), and his situation is none of their business.

  5. Lenore says:

Ugh. PETA are just despicable, utter bullies. I have nothing but sympathy for the cause – I’ve been vegetarian for sixteen years – but the hectoring, nasty, crude tactics they use, not to mention the pretty damn sexist use of photoshopped Sexay Nekkid Wimminses in their I’d Rather Go Naked campaign, just turn me right off. Who posts nasty pictures of dead animals in VEGETARIAN RECIPES?! Whose mind are they trying to change with that stuff?

Their whole attitude seems to be “We are PETA, and we can do no wrong, our cause is holy; we will call you a murderer for eating a burger, and shove hideous pictures in your face and throw paint at you and we are justified in doing so because we are PETA dammit”.

The same way the anti-smoking lobby make me want to start smoking, PETA make me crave a good rare steak.

  6. Gymo says:

PETA is stupid, they are now messing with rich people Golf and big Corporate Interest, watch their funding begin to dry up.
Some of the same people who fund PETA’s budget are using Tiger to make money/attract viewers/sell golf equipment.

  7. bellaluna says:

And the only reason Tiger didn’t have a bunch of kids due to his actions (if one can believe the info from his army of skanks) is because some were miscarried and others were aborted.

Yes, PETA does tend to offend more than they recruit…I think that’s they’re goal, honestly. If they were trying to recruit people, I believe they’d be less offensive to such a blanket group of potential supporters, and quit aiming for the shock value they on which they thrive.

    Lenore, well said! Bravo!

  8. princess pea says:

This makes a lot more sense than the last “too much sex can be a bad thing” ad from PETA that I saw. That one had beautiful porn star Sasha Grey in a bed, pretty much implying that some sex would be awesome. This at least is a logical image for the message (although Tiger didn’t spawn with his lady-friends, so it’s not THAT logical.)

  9. canadianchick says:

Heeehhee, good ole karma for Tiger but yeah this is why he likely keeps lawyers on retainer. PETA are fundamentalist wackos.

  10. Snarf says:

It’s a brillant move on Peta’s part (much like the ad for Mancrunch that never aired during the Superbowl) this ad will never go on a billboard as the billboard companies can be sued as well, but PETA gets the coverage it was looking for. Well played.

  11. Wow says:

If PETA thinks they can get away with using Tiger’s image without clearing the leasing rights with IMG – then they are in for a rude awakening.

  12. mel says:

    How tacky!

  13. celandine says:

Come on, that’s funny! PETA may be mostly an organisation full of nutjobs intent on using shock tactics, but Tiger made himself a fair target for this kind of thing with all his “family man” posturing, and it is a valuable point they’re making.

  14. Tia C says:

“The same way the anti-smoking lobby make me want to start smoking, PETA make me crave a good rare steak.”

LOL, Lenore! I agree with that sentiment, but I also think the ad is funny. PETA is over the top, and they are totally out of line with this ad, but to be honest, it did make me laugh.

  15. embertine says:

I think PETA are total loons, but I like this, lawsuit or no.

All the “but Tiger isn’t breeding” comments miss the point; the vast majority of cats that are put down in the UK by rescue centres are FIV-positive, and catch the disease via sex or via sex-related fights (my brief internet research indicates it is also widespread in the US). It’s not just about unwanted kittens.

  16. YT says:

Not funny. Inappropriate. I hope Tiger sues.

PETA thinks nothing of human rights, and that badly damages their “cause” for animal rights. Makes one wonder if more attention is for the “holy” PETA members and organization than for animals.

  17. westender says:

If Peta really cared about animals how about all the money they spend on ads like that go to help low income people with the cost of spaying and neutering their pets? or how about helping to preserve wilderness areas for future generations? Going after Jessica Simpson or Tiger Woods is not helping their cause.

  18. irishserra says:

I’m with Bella: NOT a fan of PETA; Definitely a fan of this campaign.

  19. daisyfly says:

I despite PETA and their tactics. This is yet another tasteless one. The man cheated on his wife – he cheated on his children. Those are private pains that PETA and their insensitive ranks do not have to deal with. They use personal issues as a target in their campaigns constantly, with little care or concern for the ramifications.

“Little” Tigers is offensive and wrong. Why? Because his CHILDREN have been referred to on numerous occasion as “little Tigers”. I know most people seem to think that it’s all his fault – which it is – but that doesn’t mean we have to ignore that there are other people involved in this, those who had no choice, no say in the matter, those that are completely and wholly innocent.

Shame on PETA (again) for a tasteless and tacky ad.

  20. sarah says:

I don’t like PETA (they kill more animals than they help) however, that ad is insanely funny!

  21. gg says:

    lol, okay, that is funneee!

  22. cfox says:

That is just all kinds of wrong. Hope he sues the shit out of them.

  23. nana says:

PETA is as disgusting as tiger’s mistresses. money and fame. Tiger should sue them in MILLIONS and MILLIONS for unauthorized use of his image. They do everything for animal rights but they forgot their limits and the word human rights.

  24. Just a Poster says:

    PETA! You cheeky little Monkeys!

    BWHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  25. Erin says:

HILARIOUS!! Next they should do John Edwards 😀

  26. hatsumomo says:

The add is funny no doubt but its PETA, so fail.

And Id think twice about believing wild claims of miscarriages and abortions from the Tiger Skanks. Any good gold-digger/fame-whore knows a baby alive is worth more than a dead one. Not to trivialize what other women may go through, but I wouldn’t put it past these skanks to do it. And if it so happened that one of them did miscarry why not keep a sample of DNA from the fetus for later testing/proof? Nicole Kidman did it when she miscarried: during the divorce I think Tom tried to say she had an affair and though she was prolly in a lot of pain, she had the good sense to cover her ass and keep a sample frozen.

  27. Kim says:

    HILARIOUS!!!!! Go PETA!

  28. Kim says:

Everyone is so concerned about this being innapproparite – UM sleeping with multiple other women while married, not using protection then sleeping with wife and endangering her life with AIDS or STD’s is INAPPROPRAITE! Tiger deserves every jab he gets!

  29. hebegeebee says:

I agree with not wanting to have images of animal cruelty shoved in your face. Um, so why do you feature a Peta video ad with bloody baby pigs right on your web page?

  30. Obvious says:

@hebegeebee i don’t think it’s their choice, it’s unfortunately what keeps sites like this amazing one going. revenue form ads. however i think it is horrible, and i’ve yet to click on it. however i find it a tad more tasteful then the porn ads that used to be on my side bar.

  31. Aspie says:

PETA’s ad is neither cute nor witty nor funny. It’s plain low class and ignorant.

How can anyone support an organization that believes if animal testing resulted in a cure for AIDS, they could not support it?

I hope Tiger sues and beats the pants off of those loons.

  32. DD says:

ahaha love it! I actually thought the word that crosses his arm was puta instead of peta, which would’ve made more sense.

  33. Lway says:

Tiger is going to be PISSED!

  34. anon says:

i too am disturbed by bloody baby pigs…

  35. Jazz says:

As much as I dislike PETA, this is hilarious!

  36. davis says:

    Please sue PETA Tiger.
