Corey Haim dead at the age of 38

wenn2353750

The Los Angeles Police Dept. just confirmed the death of actor and former teen heartthrob Corey Haim. Haim was 38, and the initial reports indicate that he died of an “accidental overdose” although, of course, that status could change. He apparently died this morning, around 3:30 a.m. at an Oakwood, California apartment.

Since this is breaking news, I’m not going to get in-depth with Haim’s career, but you can look at his filmography on IMDB. If you were a child (or teenager) during the 1980s, chances are you had a crush on Corey Haim. from The Lost Boys to License to Drive, Corey was adored by many, many girls my age.

Our prayers go out to his friends and family on this tragic loss of someone so young.

  3. dread pirate cuervo says:

RIP, Corey. Sad that this is not shocking. Lindsay Lohan, this is your future! Wake up!

  4. lucy2 says:

Sad. I was a kid in the 80s, and yes, was a fan and had a crush. Really sad what his life became. I feel for his friends and family.

  5. prissa says:

I am so sad as well. I really liked Corey and was hoping somehow he would get it together. I guess sometimes the demons or issues are larger than the person can bear. The radio report said they didn’t know the drug – can you provide updates when they’re available Celebitchy? Prayers got out to his friends/family.

  6. sarah says:

I’m so sad. I loved the Coreys. Part of my childhood is gone now. RIP Corey. 🙁

  7. Anon says:

I am getting so sick and tired on reading about all these young stars overdosing/committing suicide… Wake up Hollywood!!!
    RIP Corey

  8. dude says:

Very sad! Not a fan b/c I was born in the mid 80’s but still very sad! Its sad when someones addiction gets the best of them. My heart aches for his family!

  9. Icecat says:

    I’m so sad…
He was my *First* big crush.

Thoughts go out to his family & friends…

    :'(

  10. Shelly says:

I always wanted to marry Corey when I was young even though we were the same age. RIP Corey, I hope you can find the peace in the next phase of your life that you couldn’t find on Earth. Thoughts go out to his family.

  11. Ursaline says:

Thats awful. I’m four months older than he is and grew up watching him and Corey Feldman. I’ll bet Corey F is mourning his friend today.

What a tragedy for Corey H’s mother to have to go through; the addiction and then to find him and to have to bury her own son.

My thoughts go out to them.

  12. mhjmc says:

I’m sad for his family but I’m sure it didn’t come as too much of a surprise, he’s always reminded of me of kid that had too much too soon. He’s always had drug problems … and well they will catch up with you. RIP Corey Haim may your inner demons finally let you rest.

  13. Icecat says:

@prissa – I know he had a bad addiction to pills. Not sure whether it was pain pills or Clonapin?? I know at one point he said he had to take 90+ pills to get high everyday. So, so sad.

We can only hope that this will open they eye’s of anyone with addiction so they get help…

  14. Jillian says:

How sad. Rest in peace, Corey.

  15. Stephie says:

Man. Just sad. Couldn’t believe when I read that. RIP Corey.

  16. ViktoryGin says:

    Loved “License to Drive”.

My first reaction to this was “yeah…” A few years ago E did one of those “Where are they now?” stories. He was unemployed sitting on the floor of his mother’s apartment playing with toy trucks high as kite. Totally rock bottom. It was apparent then that he didn’t stand much of a chance. Tragic.

  17. Elong says:

This is so sad. One of my top four fav movies is Dream A Little Dream. I had always hoped he would get the help he needed and have the support to beat the addiction. I am not shocked though. Why does fame chew people up and spit them out so often?

  18. Bella Bella says:

I have a feeling Corey F. is just planning his next press conference.

  19. Aspen says:

Bella, that was my first thought, too. I’m saddened by this…but I can’t say that I’m surprised.

  20. Schnauzers!!!! says:

What a loss. If only he had gotten his life together…

  21. bellaluna says:

What I really want to know is, how is it that people like Corey who actually had talent and had taken rehab seriously end up dead, but people like Lindsay just won’t die? It’s just not fair.

  22. gg says:

It’s never just one “drug”, it’s a combination. His poor heart probably just gave out. Sad. Rest in Peace Corey.

  23. Erin says:

I don’t wish death or harm on anyone, but I will admit my first thought when I read this was “why couldn’t it have been Feldman?” Corey Feldman is such a scumbag.

  24. mslewis says:

Erin, why is he a scumbag? Corey Feldman has actually given up drugs and leads a clean life. In fact, he had refused to even talk to Corey Heim for the past several years because Heim wouldn’t get clean. I call that tough love and trying to be a friend.

I actually never liked either of them and wasn’t a fan but it was really difficult to watch that E! show about them from a few years back. Heim was out of his mind, literally, and could barely form a sentence. I’m surprised he lasted this long. My first thought . . . his mother must be relieved!! Bad, I know!! Sorry.

  25. Eileen Yover says:

The Lost Boys was my favorite movie growing up and I had a huge crush on him. I watched some of the Corey’s reality show and he was definitely in trouble. RIP.

  26. Bella Bella says:

Corey Feldman is a scumbag because he uses other people’s tragedies to make himself relevant again. Interviews for the MJ trial, dressing like MJ and more interviews after his death, getting a reality show by showcasing Haim’s apparent downward spiral. It was pretty obvious that Haim was far from clean during the show. I think we will see a lot of Feldman after this death, self promoting himself as the Good Corey who tried and tried to save his friends life. News Flash Asshole: If your friend is a foot away from the grave and using drugs don’t take part in putting them under the microscope of reality tv. But I guess finding ways to help Haim clean up wouldn’t have been as profitable.

  27. Bella Bella says:

lol– I don’t know why I am so pissed off about this. omg.

  28. Tia C says:

@ bellaluna – Really? How was Corey Haim more talented than Lindsay Lohan? I’d put them about on a par, if anything. Neither of them is Oscar material. And how did he take rehab seriously? I’ve never seen an interview with him where he appeared the slightest bit sober. He’s been high for years.

This was sadly inevitable. I was a fan in the 80s and had the requisite crush on him. He didn’t age well, though – did anyone see the video TMZ has of him taken a couple weeks ago? He had a triple chin, poor thing. Kind of reminded me of “puffy Elvis” toward the end of his life. Just sad. RIP Corey.

  29. scotchy says:

@bella, i totally understand. feldman was an ass as self promoting ass.
i am sure we are going to see another feldman special in the next few weeks.

  30. Lem says:

@ ICe that quote was referring to Valium:
“And that was just the valium – I’m not talking about the other pills I went through. ” But the poor kid’s been hooked on every d@mn thing.

the sad part, as a child of the 80’s, is watching him spiral for 20 years!!

    RIP Haim.

  31. Lem says:

I hope someone has Feldman under observation, all the same.
No matter their current standing they are peanut butter & jelly, Burt & Ernie, weed & beer. They feed each other. They need each other.
Somebody better pop round to check on our girl Drew too! She’s gotta be having a rough day.

  32. nAynAy says:

What a Shame. It’s sad to say, but this is the future path that Lindsay seems to be following.

  33. Maseca says:

He didn’t die in “Oakwood, CA”, as there is no such place. He died in Burbank, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. He lived in North Hollywood, CA (Toluca Lake to be specific). “Oakwood” was the name of his apartment complex.

  34. Icecat says:

@Lem – Yeah, I realized that after I posted about the Klonopin. But really, to me, they they are the same type of drug. DOWNERS/Barbiturates.. And that, mixed with the pain pills, and probably anti-depressants, mabye throw in some adderall.. Yeah, his heart probably just couldn’t take it anymore…

    RIP COREY!!

    Wake up Lindsay!

  35. Katyusha says:

Oops, sorry Maseca, you beat me to it.

  36. Icecat says:

Oh yeah, and to the people asking why Corey Feldman is a douchbag. Just watch the season of the surreal life he was on. That should sum it up for you. I watched that show just because he was on it. He annoyed me and everyone else so bad, I ended up losing all the respect I had for him…

  37. Johanna says:

I’m sad to hear this news but sadly Im not really shocked. I was hoping he would have a comeback at life not so much Hollywood. RIP Corey Haim.

Feldman is a self promoting guy who jumps on every opportunity to be back in the camera but that doesn’t mean I think he didn’t really care about Haim. I saw a couple episodes of their show The Two Coreys (which no one forced Haim to do btw) & supposedly Feldman turned down a role in The Lost Boys 2 because they didn’t offer Haim a role. If anything Feldman’s wife seemed like the true ahole. She never pretended to be a Haim fan & was tough on him but then again like one of the posters said, it might have been tough love.

  38. Tomasina says:

Sad, but not shocking. My condolences go out to him and his family.

  39. Renee says:

So sad, I always held out hope for him.

  40. Whaaaatchu Say says:

Wow, I woke up this morning with a feeling that someone was dead…I thought it would be Lohan, but instead it’s Corey Haim. It is FREAKY to have that feeling and then, boom, someone’s OD’d, just like that. What makes it even crazier is that just last night I was reading another site that mentioned Corey as being a Monarch/MK victim. All celebs are, of course, but when it said Corey Haim, I was like “Wow, haven’t heard THAT name in a while”….and now here we are. Strange!

Anyways, of course my heart goes out to his family, it is never easy to lose someone you love even under the “best” circumstances. I guess all I can say is that at least he is out of his pain, which, from what I saw, seemed to be immense and all-consuming. I hope he has finally found the peace he was likely seeking with drugs here on Earth in Heaven….RIP Corey

  41. Alex says:

He never had a chance – saddest thing were his interviews about being sexually abused. A sad life… RIP

  42. Just a Poster says:

Oh no. This really does break my heart.

Today, a little piece of our childhood died today.

  43. Dawn says:

Damn! My hearts goes out for his family,no mother should have to bury their child.

I grew up with Corey Haim’s posters from Tigerbeat all over my bedroom walls. I almost got into a fight in my 9th grade reading class, because my bestfriend said that Feldman was cuter than Haim. My girls and I watched “Lost Boys” way too many times to remember. I was sad to hear how his life was taking a turn for the worst, and now he’s gone.

Corey, may you find the peace you didn’t have in life,in death.

  44. I knew him says:

Ages ago, I worked on a silly B movie as a production assistant staring Corey Haim and Amy Dolenz (Mickey Dolenz’s daughter). Haim and his girlfriend, Cricket, were actually very nice to everyone, including me. Of course, the rumors on set were that he was still using. But, he kept saying that he was going to clean up, do better and get better roles. SO sad that it didn’t happen. I thought he was great in The Lost Boys. He was very funny and talented in that movie. I’m bummed to hear that he passed away.

Here’s hoping that your next life is a better one, Corey. And, at least, you will be well remembered. RIP.

  45. filthycute says:

Oh, another privileged actor squanders his opportunities in a downward spiral of drugs. Shocking.

That being said, I grew up loving Corey in the 80’s and am sad to hear this. RIP Corey.

  46. Sol says:

Sooo sad. When i saw the title i was shocked. I always thought he had an attitude of i am the best and didn’t like him for that reason.
But some years ago i think it was on E or some documentary about his life in which he spoke with his heart about his life and drugs and i really wished the best for him as i discovered another side of him maybe i never saw it before.
He tried to fight but sometimes its just not enough. Sadly Hollywood will forget about him as they did with Brad Renfro.
    RIP.

  47. Lochie says:

Lessons can only be learnt by some people the hard way. RIP Corey.

  48. bellaluna says:

@ Tia – When I said “had” I meant past-tense, as in “he used to have”, not “had” as in “because now he’s dead”. Both he and Lindsay squandered their youthful talent for drugs, but at least Corey talked about (and made more of an effort at) getting clean. And that doesn’t detract from the fact that the man is dead, and his family, friends, and fans (as so many of us were) are saddened by the loss. I hope he found the peace in death that so eluded him in life.

  49. Whaaaatchu Say says:

He died at 3:30am….sorry to harp on this sh*t in every post but that is the time of day that occult sacrifices are made. Also, the date…03/10/10? Think about it. Sounds like insane paranoid conspiracy theories but the more you read about this, the more you realize it CANNOT POSSIBLY all be “coincidence”. Just like Angelina wants 13 children….all coincidences, right?

  50. Tia C says:

@ bellaluna – I see what you’re saying. I still respectfully and politely disagree though. While he may have given it plenty of lip service, I don’t think he EVER really took his recovery seriously. I’m not trying to dis the recently deceased or anything though, and it really doesn’t matter now anyway. I was a fan and was very sad to hear this morning about his death. I was really hoping he’d have a great comeback.

  51. ThunderC*nt says:

#49, please, please elaborate. 3/10? What does that mean?

I am personally disgusted to read on other blogs of how some commentators are saying they wish it was Lindsay and they’d have a party if it was. Why do that to yourself? Why put that negativity out there? It’s just bringing bad luck to you, your children and your pets. Never do this to yourself.

  52. Lem says:

Taking recovery seriously makes all the difference.(RDJ, blessed finally) Some still cannot be helped it seems (jeff Conway)
In not taking it seriously (LL/Sheen/Andy Dick/Mischa/Scott Weilund/C.LOve) you are just wasting your time.
Sometimes they don’t want or even think they need(court ordered)anything. Until then….

  53. bellaluna says:

@ Tia – I agree. I understand what you’re saying. Lip service is much easier than the actual recovery process, and as a fan I, too, was really looking forward to a comeback. Geez, wasn’t he such a cutie back in the day? 😉

  54. Mistral says:

RIP. People can mock the whole “Just Say No” Campaigns, but they’re right! Look what drugs do to a person’s looks and career. Your life is over when you start using; you just can’t predict how they’ll affect you, and it’s best to assume you’ll lose all control over yourself.

  55. Ezra Gittman says:

I think despite his demons that he was a genuinely nice guy unlike the other one who made up the lesser half of the two Coreys. I am so sorry his life ended this way & I hope that Feldman will, for once in his life ,show some class & not milk this tragedy for fifteen more minutes.

  56. archiepelago says:

@ Bella: The second thing I thought after how sad Haim’s passing was that we would now see Feldman everywhere – talks shows, interviews, blogs, you name it – anywhere someone would have him. First thing this morning, he posted to his blog the announcement of the passing of his ‘brother’ and asked that the ‘media respect his and the privacy of his family at this difficult time’. Since then , I’ve seen numerous Feldman interviews and now he is mouthing off that we shouldn’t speculate on it being a drug overdose.

Feldman and Ryan O’Neill should have dinner sometime, compare notes.

  57. CB Rawks says:

Did anyone ever see the movie Secret Admirer? He was so cute in that. He played the little brother of C.Thomas Howell, who was caught up in mayhem over an anonymous love letter. Also had Kelly Preston, Lori Loughlin and Dee Wallace Stone.

Definitely at his best in Lost Boys, of course.

  58. EMV says:

Addiction is such an awful disease…Let Light Perpetual Shine Upon him. His poor mother

  59. GracieXDoes says:

Bless.his.heart. Loved him. So sad. RIP Corey.

  60. Icecat says:

@Mistral – I used Meth for 7 years and I didn’t lose my life. It wasn’t over? Yes, I did lose control, but when that happened I had people around that told me so. And, it wasn’t for very long. BUT all addicts do not lose thier lives. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I was able to quit all by myself. I didn’t have to go to rehab, and now 10 years later, I have a pretty normal life.
I just think to say “Your life is over when you start using” is a pretty harsh statement. People can change: IF THEY WANT TO…

  61. Bella Bella says:

re: Feldman. That douchebag was on Larry King last night. barf.

  62. Solid Quarter says:

Could Feldman be more of a douchebag? Haim was a filthy, no talent junkie. Whining on Larry King about how people should not pick on former child stars is just pathetic. Perhaps you and dead boy should have taken your earnings, diligently studied to get an education and become responsible adults and parents.

Instead, you are both ignorant loser deadbeats crying about glory days and now Haim is taking a dirt nap. What sorry excuses for human beings. You actually believe your own press releases as if you have some rare talent. You were in the right place, right time, right look. Now you are human garbage and Haim is worm food

  63. Mistral says:

    Icecat,
I’m very glad to hear that you’re all clean and in control. I’m sure if you could go back in time, though, you wouldn’t have wanted to go through that crap/struggle again.

My point was that people should just make the assumption–BEFORE they ever try drugs in the first place–that they will lose all control over their life and completely ruin it, if not lose it entirely too soon.

There is no need to “try” drugs, or to “experiment”.

  64. sad clown says:

… maybe now someone will bust his skank-junkie-pusher. how hard can this be – really. too bad no one did it before. i guess they always find away to cop elsewhere tho …

  65. sylvia says:

F- All of you! This kid never had a chance. I am ashamed of a society that doesn’t recognize when it exploits talent only to throw it away. This kid never had a chance to grow up. Looking at the film “Lucas” one can see the sensitivity this kid had. If his parents had an OUNCE of sensitivity, NONE of us would have seen this, because it would have been shown on a school stage. The truth is, 99% of kid actors will hit this sort of crisis. PLEASE, realize, we need to STOP pimping kids out as actors. At the very least, we need to vet the parents of the kids at the same time we are testing the kids for roles. Jesus, people, let’s take some responsibilty. Kids need to be kids….or they CANNOT become adults!!!

  66. Solid Quarter says:

Which self-indulgent douchebag celeb croaks next? Scumbag Corey Feldman, tramp Lindsay Lohan, white trash Britany Spears or alchoholic deluxe David Hasselhoff? I say Hasslehoff snuffs it by Memorial Day and Lohan is turning tricks once E*Trade bankrupts her in a countersuit this summer.
