Angelina and Johnny have been ramping up their filming schedules for The Tourist, judging by the sheer number of photos at all of the agencies. And yet… they seem very careful to avoid being in the same frame at the same time. Oh, well. I’m sure it’s coming, those photos of Johnny and Angelina walking along some random street, talking and laughing even glancing at each other randomly, as people who are having a conversation tend to do. And then those photos will be used on every tabloid with headlines like “BRAD WALKS IN ON ANGELINA & JOHNNY’S SEXY PUBLIC TRYST” and “SHILOH WILL WEAR A DRESS IF MOMMY STOPS BEING SUCH A SLUT”. Et cetera.
Anyhoodle, E! News had an interesting tidbit about Angelina this morning, and it does not involve her rubbing her “gerbils” all over Johnny Depp. Apparently, Angelina “got the ball rolling” for a refugee girls’ school in Afghanistan with a $75,000 donation:

For Angelina Jolie, it’s not enough to be a supermom to a gaggle of kids. She’s quickly working her way toward becoming a modern-day Mother Teresa, and today’s installment of her do-gooding is yet another step in that direction.
Just 18 months ago, the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador visited a settlement for refugee returnees, mostly from Pakistan, in Tangi, Afghanistan. The people shared with her their concerns about a lack of educational facilities—and, thus, a lack of education—in the area.
According to the UNHCR website, she forked over the necessary $75,000 to get the ball rolling on an all-girls school, and roll it did.
The building will be inaugurated on Thursday, and classes start next Monday.
The school has eight classrooms, four administrative buildings, a well and eight latrines. It can accommodate up to 800 students in two shifts.
The UNHCR is working with UNICEF to recruit teachers and textbooks. Plans are also under way to provide secondary education, as only two Tangi girls are currently enrolled in high school.

Mel apart of Angelina’s job is to raise awareness, meaning to make people aware of an issue, that doesn’t work if you do it anonymously sweetie.

I’m going to blame the Mother Theresa thing on the writer for E, because they are so up her rear end there it’s funny. The donation was nice and will probably be a great deal of help to the schools, but comparing any celebrity to Mother Theresa is ridiculous.

I’m glad they made her get bangs, they soften her look significantly. Now she needs some movie that would require from her to gain a few pounds and she’ll be completely breathtaking again.
When she and Brad don’t give anonymously, they, in effect, give PR for a cause and hopefully encourage others to donate.
They could make a bigger deal about their donations, but they seem to keep them low-key; some simply noted in a group of donations. Since they don’t have to make donations, I’m fine with the any way they choose to handle them.
It’s so sweet that Angelina has given money for girls to attend school. Women and girls are so beneath the men in Afghanistand, really sad that men don’t think women need an education.
Mel I don’t know but really, does that make that much a difference. I mean we hear how much stars spend on houses, cars, and shopping…I don’t really mind hearing how much they spend on charity.

It seems to me UNHCR is the one that announced it. And considering that she’s one of their spokesperson, I’m sure they will posting any of her work or funds that she donates on behalf of their organization.

It’s the UNHCR, not Angelina Jolie, who makes these announcements. They do it in the hopes that others will donate.

Although my basis for opinion is media-fed, I feel Angelina is the epitome of insecure, esteem-challenged actresses. That being said, I think her philanthropy is very sincere, and her desire to help as many disadvantaged people as she can is genuine. Good for her, to channel her resources for the benefit of others. I doubt that most of the public that criticizes her so, relatively speaking, have done even 1/1000th of good as she has for the poor and disenfranchised of the world.

I think the girls who will benefit from this donation probably don’t care what her motivations for giving were. bottom line is that there’s $75K more to help this school get going.

Personally,I think the UNHCR should not have allowed the donation or the school to be built because it is part of the dastardly plot to give AJ credit for something positive. I cannot believe in an organization that announces its successes, it is so tacky and so success-oriented. Can you imagine if others realize the work that is being done they may actually donate something as well? Ridiculous. UNHCR please get a new marketing strategy because all you’ve proven so far is that AJ is effective as a spokesperson and she seems committed financially as well. Big deal, so what they announced it, it’s not like it’s the first time she has donated money to a good cause! Oprah announces it too! These people make millions of dollars, it’s a good thing they are helping others, the rest of Hollywood might want to copycat and get there names in tabloids too. At least this is news worth hearing!

Angelina didn’t announce it UNHCR did. Also every little thing Brad and Angelina do gets blown up 1000X. A lot of celebrities do very public donations/charity but it just doesn’t get covered. Reese Witherspoon was in Washington, DC to promote donations and support by Avon on domestic abuse. She even attended a luncheon with the First Lady and Hilary Clinton. Most blogs had it as a link and a couple did a story that received a few comments. Shiloh gets a haircut and everybody covers it, even have psychoanalysis. People also have to take into account that Brad and Angelina also donate from their own foundation. Charities/foundations are public record so tabloids and blogs will announce every donation.
So this donation was made probably by in the time the she visited Afghanistan to bring awareness for the awful conditions of the hundreds of girls that didn’t have the opportunity to go to schools…
But i’m still curious if she really just wanted attention like some of you that hate her say that she is looking for… WHY she didn’t make a statement or go to TV shows or whatever when she made the donation?
For anyone that can READ the article is THE UNHCR that is talking about the fact that the school that she helped funded will be opening NOT HER…
