People Magazine has just confirmed that Padma Lakshmi’s mystery baby-daddy is… Adam Dell (photos here). Padma gave birth to her daughter Krishna back in February, and Padma had seriously kept the baby-daddy a secret for months and months. She hasn’t even really confirmed it at this point, but since People is reporting it, I’m going with it. Adam Dell is shockingly not an old dude, not weird and not somehow insanely inappropriate for Padma, so I have no idea why she was so hellbent on keeping his identity a secret. Dell is a 39 years old venture capitalist and brother of Michael Dell, of Dell Computers (CB wants me to mention that Dell Computers SUCK ASS). Anyway, now that we know the baby-daddy, there’s a new layer of drama:
The identity of Padma Lakshmi’s daughter has finally been revealed: Adam Dell, a venture capitalist who splits his time between Austin and New York City, fathered baby Krishna, a source confirms to PEOPLE.
Though the Top Chef host announced her pregnancy in October, she was mum about the father’s identity.
According to the source, Lakshmi, 39, and Dell, 40, are trying to work out visitation rights with their daughter, who will be a month old March 20. Dell would like “more time and involvement with the child,” says the source. “It’s all in negotiations. They are trying to work it out. They are trying to avoid anything messy.”
Lakshmi, meanwhile, has been spotted recently with Krishna. On March 11, the two were photographed together on a New York City bench.
The baby’s father was first reported by the New York Post.

Yes, People is quoting from yesterday’s Page Six. Here’s the original piece:
Adam Dell is a proud papa with photographs of his daughter, Krishna, all over his house in Austin, Texas — and he wants a larger role in his child’s life. The venture capitalist is said to be negotiating with Padma Lakshmi for visitation rights, weekends and vacations with the little girl.
A source said Dell told guests at a barbecue at his home “how excited he was to raise her, but that Padma wasn’t being entirely accommodating.”
A friend of Lakshmi snips back, “An agreement was made with the biological father that was very fair. It’s unfortunate if anything inappropriate is being said.” Her rep could not be reached. Dell’s spokes man, Howard Rubenstein, had no comment.

Oh, drama! I wonder what the hell happened between Padma and Adam that she’s all “not without my daughter”. It sounds like Adam really wants to be involved, and he sounds like a pretty decent guy. But I don’t know the backstory. Padma and Adam don’t seem to be together, and they haven’t been together for a while, I guess. Maybe he dumped her when she got pregnant? But that doesn’t make sense either, because I was under the impression that she was very open about wanting to get pregnant and really trying for it for a while. Eh. I give up.

Unless he’s done something horrible, I say good for him for wanting to be more involved in his daughter’s life. There’s no shortage of deadbeat dads out there, so it’s kind of nice to hear about one who wants to take responsibility and be a good dad.
As a fan of Top Chef, I can tell you that this slowwwww talking gal is rather fullllll…..offffff…..herselffffff.
I don’t really care about her, but I felt compelled to agree with CB’s sentiments: Dell does suck ass.
Maybe she kept it private because it is no one’s business other than hers.
Also this is no big surprise. It has been talked about for months that he was the father.
First, good for Adam Dell for wanting to be an active part of his daughter’s life. There are so many “famous” men who want nothing to do with the children they conceive in short term relationships (Elizabeth Hurley’s, Heidi Klum’s, Jude Law, etc.) that it is great for that little girl that she has two parents who are happy and excited to be a part of her life.
As for Padma, it seems likely to me that after wanting to be a mother for so long (which is well-documented), and not being with the father, she doesn’t want to give up too much time with her daughter.
I’d imagine they had a tentative agreement in place with regards to visitation and custody, and now that they have both met her and bonded, they want as much time as they can get- pretty common.
Who? and Who?
He’s pretty cute. She should let him be a dad if he wants to be. If she didn’t want a real guy involved, she should have gone to a sperm bank.
Now that I’ve entered that comment……I have a confession to make…..I believe I am seriously addicted to this blog and commenting on it when I should be working….if my boss gets angry, I will call a meeting and admit my problem before everyone and ask for their understanding in this difficult situation…
jeesh, unless the dude’s a complete SOB why wouldn’t you want the baby to know her father? padma’s a beeyotch.
@ juiceinla:
THAT WAS FRIGGIN’ PERFECTION!!!
Padma . . . Please pack your knives and go.
Sounds like she wanted a baby with no daddy strings attached (or all on her terms). Fortunately for Krishna, it doesn’t work that way!
Geesh! You must have looked long and hard for a bad picture of Padma. God, that one is ugly.
Anyway, Padma probably wanted a guy who wouldn’t want to be involved and this Dell person surprised her. I really don’t understand what the problem is. It’s not like the guy is in prison or something. Padma should be happy her daughter will have a Daddy who cares.
P.S.: My laptop is Dell and I like it and haven’t had any trouble with it but I know that other people have.
Here’s the thing…
If all she wanted was a donor…then she should have went to a “bank”…
But she wanted to make sure she hooked up with somebody with plenty of chedda and then she’s gonna try and play him sideways….
Sorry…I think “Dell” money will go WAY MORE further than “Chef” money when it comes to courts and lawyering up, and it looks like Daddy won’t mind going “there”…so…good luck with that…
@laurie – it does if you use a baster.
Maybe it was one of those Octofreak situations where the father basically said, “here’s the baby juice, have at it.” I would think if she wanted him involved with Krishna, she’d have had at least some sort of relationship with the Dell dude.
Anyway, with all the deadbeat dads roaming around lately, it’s nice that he wants to take an active role in Krishna’s life, whether Padma likes it or not. As long as he’s not a crazy serial killer or some freak who dates tattooed maniacs, then it’d be good for the baby to know her daddy.
I agree – yeesh, those are some bad, bad pictures of Padma.
She looks pretty unfortunate in this pic. Thank goodness for make up. She did the same thing as Salma Hayek, hooking up with older men with a lot of money, they shopped around for a good baby-daddy.
The only thing I’m really concerned with is the incorrect way she’s carrying her baby in that sling. Dangerous!
Dell Computers totally SUCK ASS, agree
He’s kind of funky looking, but props to him for wanting to be part of his daughter’s life.
@ Kolby: ME TOO! I’m thinking—holy shit, has she really got her infant in that thing? 😮
Maybe she weighed it back and for between known and anon donor. Maybe he went along for the ride, also thinking it was a good idea at the time. Then the baby is born and now he wants to be more involved than he originally signed on for. We just don’t know. That is the reason woman choose ADI over KD insemination. Hopefully for Padma, they had some kind of agreement in place if in fact this was the case. Maybe they had a short fling and he was annoyed that she was keeping the baby, gave her a hard time, wanted nothing to do with her until the baby came. It does suck if they did have an agreement that he would be a donor.
God, she’s ugly.
Bad pic of Padma, she is truly beautful in person, maybe not on the inside, but she is very physically beautiful.
I find this weird but also sort of not surprising. I have read stuff where it mentions that her own father was not an active part of her life but was with his other children and this caused “daddy issues” for her. Perhaps because she was raised without a strong paternal presence she does not think it is necessary.
He is negotiating for more time with his child and she is negotiating for more money. Simple.
This would have been more interesting if she had a baby by the “Dude, you’re getting a Dell!” guy.
@ mistral – I feel you..I have the same compulsion too =) but one i wont admit in front of a room full of colleagues.
Meh! too late, i think the secret is out. Most of them knws. 😛
@ Kolby. YES! I totally agree. That baby is not being safely worn. There is all kinds of things wrong with the way that babe is being carried.
Per todays Page Six they according to Padma, they already had an agreement in place.

Hmm interesting. A one-night stand?
