***This whole post is a SPOILER if you have not seen the Project Runway finale, which aired last night.***
Did you think it was going to go down like that? I didn’t. The way the episode was edited, I had a sinking feeling that Emilio or Mila was going to win – it just felt like it was going that way. But in the end, the best man and the best designer won! Hurray! My beloved Seth Aaron took the prize in the end, and he cried manly tears of joy, as did his wife, daughter and son. It was so sweet! Sigh… this is my beloved Project Runway, the show that reward genuine talent over all-black and Coney Island t-shirts (IRINA, winner of Season 6).
So, to recap the finale: You know all of the mean sh-t I was saying about Mila’s dumb, color-blocking ass? Well, I still stand by that, but I actually didn’t think her entire collection was horrible. It was much better than I expected, and there were a couple of pieces that I actually thought, “Oh, that’s really nice, and interesting.” But there was too much black and white, and in general, not every outfit has to have some color blocking aspect. On the rare pieces where she did use color – that lovely eggplant purple – it looked awesome. She should have put more color in her collection, because she has a good eye for it.
You know who doesn’t have a good eye for it? Emilio. What in the 1980s neon hell was that? That electric blue hurt me deeply. During the course of the show, it felt like he really had a great vision for where fashion was going, and then he ends up showing a derivative collection that looked like 1980s Azzedine Alaïa. His saving grace was that he makes fabulous coats. I seriously wanted every coat he made… so maybe someday soon we can look forward to E. Sosa coats? Hopefully. I also ended up agreeing with Nina Garcia – Emilio made a commercial line, not an editorial collection.
Now, for Seth Aaron Henderson. Some of his pieces were derivative too, in my opinion. I was getting a very “Burberry Fall 2009” vibe off of some of the stuff, BUT it still seemed relevant and modern. And I ended up loving all of his leggings! The leggings made me think about Lindsay Lohan, honestly. She wishes she could design cool leggings like that. Here are some of my favorites from Seth Aaron’s collection:
One last word, about guest judge Faith Hill – she was kind of a dud as a judge. For next season, bring a big designer or fashion industry professional to be the judge for the finale. The full slideshow for the finale runway is here.

What the hell was that crap with Jay in the reunion show? Dude. You were ON CAMERA. This isn’t like making some snide comment on the side. What a douche. Glad he was cut, b/c one bad attidude in the top 3 was enough.
YES!!!Seth Aaron won,I’m so happy.I was so excited when I heard his name. He’s such a good designer.I didn’t like Emilio’s collection. If he had done more dresses he would have won.The metalic dress was beautiful!Mila was better than I excpected but black & white, boring…
Anybody else think that Seth Aaron and Mila had a lot of botox between the end of the weekly competition and the finale?
So happy for Seth-Aaron! His collection was definitely the most “high fashion” of the three. And I covet that quilted coat. (Maybe I also have a soft spot for him because I owned yellow plaid pants in the 80s.) Emilio’s clothes looked like a slightly edgy Chico’s catalog. (Except for his gown – stunning.) Mila stepped it up but it just wasn’t enough.
Now can we talk about Jay? I understand taking offense to that models’ comments. But there was no call to be so outright MEAN. And he was so smug looking after he said it, like he had thought up that line and couldn’t wait to use it, and he thought everyone would think it was funny and catty. What a jerk.
Yahoo! Team Seth Aaron since ep. 1.I WANT that adorable and sexy black-and-white strapless cocktail gown. Oh, hell, I want everything in that collection!
Can we talk about what a whiny bitch Emilio was when he didn’t win? How un-gracious and really, how immature. UGH. If things had gone the other way and Emilio had won, Seth Aaron would have handled it like a champ and Emilio would have been gloating, fist-pumping, and out of control. He’s such a jerk, I’m so glad he didn’t win!
It was very, very close. Seth Aaron had a gorgeous collection. But a lot of his designs are too costumey for me. Emilio showed some more wearable clothes.
Actually, I thought it was a tie.
Emilio was so arrogant through the whole show,I never liked him.I’m glad he didn’t win. Most of his clothes looked like something you can buy at Sears.I have to admit he’s good at dresses.
I was also team Seth Aaron from episode one. That guy is so likeable and he is so innovative.
While watching his designs go down the runway I thought that if I was a celebrity I would wear most of his clothes on the red carpet. They are extreme but that’s what I like about him.
I would have liked to see Jay’s collection. I bet it would have stomped, kicked and killed Mr. E. Sosa’s sad, thrift-store-granny-oh-mom-please-give-up-on-the-shoulder-pads-it’s-2010-for-creeps-sake ass!
I, too, thought it was going to E and I turned to my partner and was like, “If that dude win this show then this show has officially became crap.” She laughed, I don’t expect her to understand.
I have been a Seth A fan from day one – YAY!
@Little Fat Me: Project Rungay has the Bryant park collections of 17 of this seasons designers. Bryant park was before this season even aired, so they had to show everyone to hide who got eliminated.http://tomandlorenzo2.blogspot.com/2010/04/pr-ripping-collections-jay-part-1.html
i liked seth’s collection, overall. mila’s collection was a ripoff of london circa 1967 and emilio’s was a ripoff of “dynasty.” i still think chris march was robbed in that he never got to show his whole collection, which was inventive & gorgeous. i remember his safety pin skirt and i would totally wear that shit.
Emilio should have won! Seth’s line was out there with only a couple of pieces that I thought were not over the top……not commercial or even coture for that matter.
Yay Seth Aaron, can’t wait to see it, couldn’t resist this post despite spoilers. Its so great to see reality tv with actual talent in the cast.
@L – well, thank you so much!
I was happy for Seth Aaron but what was with the hair? It looked like he had snow flaps on. I couldn’t look at him through the runway show until the end. It was to ugly! Shouldn’t he look as good as his clothes?
I was thrilled that Seth Aaron won. I actually liked Mila’s collection better than Emilio’s. Other than the dress at the end which was fantastic, and the blue coat, the rest of that collection can be found almost anywhere. I thought that Mila’s looked like an update version of Eileen Fischer. Seth’s was the most interesting and was far and away the most innovative. YEAH for Seth.
Side notes: Emilio is the only contestant I have ever wanted to lose on Runway. He is so incredibly petulant and arrogant. What an overinflated ego and ugly person.
Jay on the reunion show was a complete ass. That is the kind of comment you might make quietly amongst your friends. Not in a public arena with the person sitting there. And the apology was SO insincere. Very ugly.
Seth Aaron’s was by far the best. Mila is not even in the same arena as him.
Emilio’s was a line, not a collection. It wasn’t a show. Seth Aaron’s was exciting and interesting and beautifully made. Emilio’s looked like a catalog from the late 70s/early 80s.
I loved Seth Aaron’s clothes, especially the yellow plaid pants with the leather strips on the inside and outside-and that gorgeous black and white plaid cocktail dress. And the leggings! I agree, the leggings were beautiful.
@lilias: Michael Kors said Emilio showed a line, not a collection. He also said Emilio’s clothes were more wearable.
Seth Aaron’s clothes were nice to look at, but I think Emilio’s clothes are more likely to sell in the stores.
jay was such a bitch i really hated him, telling that to a person and specially to a girl?? i mean c’mon dude grow some balls
I am so happy that Seth won. What a brilliant designer and genuinely nice guy! His designs really make me wish I had a small enough a$$ for skinny jeans 🙂
I will need to look into some nice leggings though.
I don’t know what Emilio was thinking. Almost everything he designed was ugly and dated. I had to laugh when he called the collection Color Me Badd and then somehow failed to discuss how early ’90s inspired it was. I can’t believe he took such a wrong turn after making some AWESOME dresses during the rest of the competition.
The obvious choice, IMO, was Seth Aaron. He was most risky and creative. So glad he won. Love his personality too! I did notice, like previous poster, that Mila looked much “fresher” after the break. Maybe the long hours and stress of the competition was getting to her. Hmmmm. I thought the same about Gordana last season. Emilio’s collection name: Color Me Bad??? WTF? Horrible name and dated looking collections except for the evening gown. TLo BOTH thought Jay’s (decoy) collection would have been the winner at the show, which I found interesting. (All designers get to show a collection at BP so there are no spoilers.)

I like that Seth Aaron won, not just because I was rooting for him from the start because of his individuality.
Though I must say I was a little shocked when he used the MacLeod of Lewis tartan in his design. Not because of the colors or the design, but because that’s my tartan! So I guess a little bias is on his side for using the plaid my family belongs to.
What did Jay say? Someone please tell me!
