CB previewed Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson’s appearance on Oprah in a post yesterday morning (in a post about Fergie blaming the liquor), but I just have to talk about how crazy Fergie was now that I watched the full one-hour interview. Does anyone else think that Fergie did not help her case whatsoever with her appearance? Granted, she wasn’t Rielle Hunter-batsh-t-crazy, but she was still intensely dumb and oblivious. Exactly what turned me off about Fergie only occurred to me about halfway through the interview – she was wallowing in self-pity (“I think I’ve been a huge over-trusting idiotic stupid woman.”), but hiding it behind a veneer of being honest and straight-forward and taking the blame. She made “taking the blame” sound like a monumental achievement, when it’s like “Uh, who else should take the blame, Fergie? You did it.” I’m still flabbergasted that no one is really talking about a potential criminal investigation into the bribing scandal. Do you think Prince Andrew had to diffuse that one?
There were two points that stuck with me as being the most blatant lies – one, that this was all happening because Fergie wanted to “help” a friend who needed $38,000 (when Fergie asked for $40,000 upfront and a $700,000 wire transfer), and two, that Fergie had never done anything like this before. I’m not Eyes For Lies or Tim Roth on Lie To Me, but even I could see Fergie’s blatant lie when she answered that question. She’s a horrible liar, just shifty as hell. Princess Diana was so much better at everything!
Anyway, many of the reviews of Fergie’s performance are less than stellar, to say the least. The interview is even getting significant play across the pond, where The Telegraph declared that “Fergie’s bizarre defense of her actions in an undercover sting video, frequently in third person, did nothing to dispel the feeling that she has lost complete control of her image. Much of the interview had an absurdist quality to it.” The Baltimore Sun’s media critic also had problems with Fergie’s bizarre use of the third person:
After seeing the Oprah interview today, I have no empathy for the Duchess of York. She is as good at rationalizing away accountability and guilt as Edwards and Hunter combined — and I think Edwards is one of the lowest forms of life on this planet.
Ferguson said that she only met with the businessman because she had a friend who “urgently needed” $38,000. That seemed to take even Oprah aback.
But the strangest thing about the interview was Ferguson’s attempt — or maybe ability — to disassociate herself from the person in the film who is shown peddling influence with all the sleaze the term suggest.
“Actually, I feel really sorry for her,” Ferguson says of the person on the screen, who happens to be her. “She looks exhausted…It’s sad.”
And when Oprah says to Ferguson that it’s “interesting” (as only Oprah can something is “interesting”) that she speaks of herself in the third person that way, Ferguson launches into a psych-talk spiel about how she spent her whole life trying to be “perfect, and she acted the way she did in part because she had been “on the road” for months and “working so hard.”
A lot of us get exhausted and work real hard, Sarah, but we don’t try to sell access to our ex for a bag with $40,000 cash in it and a pledge from our new business friend that he will wire another 500,000 pounds to our bank account at a future date. Oprah, who is a very good interviewer, asked her about the extra 500,000 pounds.
“I just took a long shot,” Ferguson said.
At least, Ferguson didn’t put it in the third person and say, “That poor, exhausted, but generous woman who only met with that sleazy reporter because a friend needed $38,000 just took a long shot.”
[From The Baltimore Sun]
Ha! Was Fergie using “the royal we”. Allegedly, Queen Elizabeth speaks of herself as “we”. As in, “We are not amused” when she means “I am not amused.” Honestly, though, I don’t think Fergie was putting on airs or trying to act royal when she spoke about herself in the third person. I think she was dissociating to elicit the viewers pity. “Oh, look at the poor old thing.” And we’re all supposed to say, “Oh, no, you’re fine!” Eh. I don’t think I want her in America. Britain, can you take this psycho grifter back?

I don’t feel bad for her at all. She deserves everything that happened to her and worse. She divorced Prince Andrew in 1996, which is 14 years ago. Couldn’t she get a decent job in all that time? The ones I really feel bad for are her daughters, who have to put up with this kind of crap time and time again.
Fergie, we are not amused. Get help now!
Fergie said she was drunk but when Oprah asked her what she was drinking she said wine, orange juice and I don’t know. What an ass.
i don’t buy it. i totally think andrew was in on it but fergie is taking the rap to avoid any more scandal than necessary.
Seriously! We can’t afford to import any more weirdos-UNLESS-she comes with an iron clad guarantee to knock the Kardashian’s with their diet and plastic surgery “secrets”, off the tabs for at least a year. Only then can she come here.
Also- she wrote a couple of VERY successful childrens books and got all that Weight Watchers endorsement cash- no pity for she and her squandering ways!
She’s had so much to be grateful for….but like all pigs, rather than feeling gratitude, she only wants more, more, more….
If she feels any any remorse at all, it’s only because she got caught.
OK she’s talking about herself in the third person and all she can say is “she looks tired…”. That poor thing! She’s tired?! What an entitled, self absorbed Beeotch! Way to think about your kids Fergie! Isnt this the interview where she’s talkig about how wonderful it is to be an aristocrat?
she behaves and rationalizes like a chronic alcohalic. i feel sorry for her as i do for all those people who get mixed up with that family. while i dont diminish fergies responsibility, its not like she can go down and get a job at the local pub. the palace would never ok that. so regardless, she is still beholdin and has to pass inspection of the monarchy. was andrew complicit in this?-interesting question. Maybe this kind of thing is more common than we know. she sure wasnt suprised by it and took it very much like the normal course of events…
Marjalane ‘Seriously! We can’t afford to import any more weirdos-UNLESS-she comes with an iron clad guarantee to knock the Kardashian’s with their diet and plastic surgery “secrets”, off the tabs for at least a year. Only then can she come here. ‘
She’s been over there for bloody ages, for a start. Also- we babysat Madonna (insulting accent and everything) for long enough, Fergie’s mentalism is nothing in comparison.
This must be tough for her kids.
I watched the interview. This is a totally self-absorbed woman too greedy for words.
“Allegedly, Queen Elizabeth speaks of herself as “we”. As in, “We are not amused”
She has done that for all of her 200 years of age. You can drop the alleged. 😉
America welcomed her with open arms years ago. We’ve always known she’s dodgy over here. So you can keep her, you can’t return spoiled goods after all these years;)
I know Diana had her issues but she always had something Fergie will never have, CLASS and a genuine vulnerability.,
I’m with Vi. I really do believe Andrew knew all about this and she’s taking the heat for it. Why else would he be so forgiving? It makes no sense. And in the video, doesn’t she say something about how Andrew told her what to do? I think she’s getting thrown under the bus. This doesn’t mean I don’t think she’s a weirdo, though, because I do.
@Fae
Sorry about the Madonna thing. I saw the interview (Im hoping there is only one) in which she coped that horrilbe faux British accent! So sorry, the woman is a FOOL!
Not fooled. Fergie was the “go between” on this deal…fueled by greed.
@ Fae…
We’ll keep Fergie if you take Heidi and Spencer for at least 6 months.
Talking about herself in third person, acting like she was all zoned out and pretending she didn’t know what she’d done – gee, she seemed to be pretty perky in the day or so after the tape came out.
Andrew’s either a first class idiot or he was in on it. Maybe we can make some kind of arrangement to send both Madonna and Fergie to Canada? 😉
One more comment: Americans quit paying homeage to the British Monarchy when we kicked their behinds out of our country and our government. NO AMERICAN EVER curtsies to a member of the Royal family. Remeber this if you ever meet the Queen or lesser Royals, fellow Americans. That being said, it IS fun watching their antics.
Have a great day, dear reader!!!
@ Victoria: Madonna used that faux British accent for YEARS…she’s the ultimate poser.
Wow, this whole thing is shadier than shady! I’m in the camp of Andrew was totally in on it and Fergie’s getting thrown under the bus. Their behavior is embarrassing to the royals. She needs to just stay out of the public eye for awhile, the more she talks the worse she makes this. STFU and go away for a year or so. It will go away if you do, Fergie!
does she have her green card or is she taking our money out of the country too
How in the world did she pissed away so much money? Drinking? Overspreading? Drugs?
Gawd, this may sound awful but I sure miss having the Royals as the main topic of celebrity gossip. Sadly, it contributed to Princess Di’s demise but I was glued to the National Enquirer as a child when I spent one Saturday each month waiting to get my hair done at the salon. Yes, all day long because I had to wait at the Black salon. Memories [wipes tear from eye]
Now I get my gossip fix from Celebitchy, Lainey and Dlisted and in between the juicy bits, I have to endure Speidi and Tila farking Tequila.
Go on with your crazy self, Fergie…I have missed your brand of gossip!
She pisses away gazillions on obsessive shopping, homes, travel, food, booze, whatever catches her eye. She’s got an addictive personality, has always been a loose cannon and has only herself to blame for all her problems. All that psuedo-psyche babble is nonsense. She’s been given every good opportunity in the world and continues to feel sorry for herself – whether or not Andrew was complicit, she has to grow up and behave like a mature adult for the first time in her life.
Whenever she goofs up she does the same, “OH silly me!” Yet, she never fully takes responsibility for her actions. I dunno, how many chances do you give one person? She needs to get a grip, get a job, and support herself ASAP.
This is the Royal family’s fault. They essentially put Fergie, the mother of the third and fourth in line to the throne, out to dry when they divorced. She’s the damn Duchess of York, is she seriously going to get a job at Harrod’s? She never had Diana’s pull or power, so her options were limited at best. It’s a shame that they haven’t taken better care of her over the years and she ended up resorting to this. And the Daily Mail are truly swine for doing this to her. This is a sad story. Give her a decent stipend already.
@ Snowball
Ha! They’re only allowed unless they can each be confined to the two furthest, opposite points of the outermost Northern Arctic region- accessible only via submarine. Which would probably put them closer to Russia than where the average Canadian lives. And the global community would have to owe Canada some kind of financial compensation for agreeing to keep them. While they are still living, and posthumous payments for emotional and mental hardships incurred from having to put up with their bats**t insanity. Maybe for a higher amount we would also consider taking Heather Mills. OMG! We could eliminate our entire national debt and generate a profit through this economic development project!!! Not only break even, but have a crazy surplus- each Canadian could get paid thousands of dollars a year from it!!! The GDP would skyrocket. We can call it the Canada-Global Arctic Trade Agreement. Canada would make crap loads of money by letting other nations banish their least liked celebrity/ public figures to our most isolated wilderness areas. Just like how Australia was founded, but instead of convicts from Great Britain, we’d keep the biggest dumb asses of the world! Genius!
I don’t think Andrew had anything to do with this – he loves his Mummy and would never have exposed the Queen to such embarrassment, especially something involving Fergie.
Nope, Fergie’s just desperate, greedy, self-obsessed, broke and most likely an alcoholic. She’s also delusional, and assumes that people will believe her ever-changing stories and transparent confabulations. I wish Oprah had taken off the gloves and really nailed her.
Prince Andrew seems too much like a stick in the mud to have participated in this. I think Fergie was desparately in this all on her own. Sad and pathetic…I hope she’s embarrassed herself enough to get her s*** together finally and grow up, because she comes across as a total FOOL. I agree too, Diana had a little more class. Messed up, but in a different way.
Prince Andrew hasn’t been the stick in the mud of the princes! Not saying that he had anything to do with this but he’s certainly not been a fuddy duddy. I remember when he was “Randy Andy” and dating softcore porn actress Koo Stark… and if memory serves, it was a bit of rebellion that he even married Sarah at all.
Anyway, I think she’s being the fall guy for something, and I think it could be Randy Andy! Doesn’t absolve her, lol, but it goes further. IMO.
i think fergie would be the type to purchase and then return panties.
The only thing that made sense in the entire interview was the discussion of the confidentiality agreement.
Fergie neglected to get a signature.
Must be some crazy PR people out there 😉
@Ron
A decent stipend? This chick blew through close to 8 million American dollars!! Her payout from Andrew was around 5 million and he still allows her to live in his home-rent free. She then made 3 million from weight-watchers and made hundreds of thousands more from her books. Its called living within your means! I’m pretty sure most people could survive on 8 million. I have no sympathy for this ginger twat.
And I am fully in the camp that Andrew knew exactly what she was doing. What a disgrace.
And even if her divorce payment was less than 5 million, she could’ve made do with the 3 million from weight watchers. Its not like there aren’t millions of other people who make do on only thousands a year. She is not entitled to a royal lifestyle when she is no longer a royal.
@ Diva/#31: wow, I can’t believe I forgot all that! You’re totally right, he was (is?) quite the playboy. Oh well, I stand corrected. I still can’t believe he was involved though.
It would have been better if she just said I was broke and desperate. Blaming alcohol is pretty lame.
ganjagirl: i think fergie would be the type to purchase and then return panties.
ha! I do too! She probably returns them in the third person, “Sarah does not like these rhinestone thongs. Poor girl looks uncomfortable and desperate.”
Her daughters must be so embarassed. Fergie takes after her old dad. Fergie just really loves money. Maybe she gambles on the horses.
