I’ve mentioned before my love of Liza Minnelli. I think she’s fabulous, I think she’s old-school, I think she’s probably on a heady mix of painkillers, tequila and humor nearly every day. She’s fun and she’s still good at comedy, she can still deliver a line, she can still steal a scene. Don’t believe me? Go back and watch any episode of Arrested Development with Liza. She’s one of the best parts of an awesome show, for real. Or you could just watch Liza’s recent appearance on the Home Shopping Network, which had the interwebs abuzz with how drunk and crazy she is:

She’s just funny. Sure, she probably doesn’t remember any of that. But why not? She’s not hurting anyone. She’s just hawking her fab Liza clothes on HSN. It was this appearance that sparked something in Hollywood – and now Liza is a hot property again. The Enquirer’s sources even claim she could be the next Betty White:

In a bizarre turn of events, Liza Minnelli’s career has shifted into high gear after she appeared to be semi coherent while hawking her fashion line on the Home Shopping Network. Job offers flooded in after the 64-year-old star delivered a slurred and rambling pitch as she launched her Liza collection on Jun 30.

“She’s already been presented with a reality show concept and a sitcom script with her playing a wacky grandma,” said a source close to Liza. “Her handlers are comparing it the recent resurgence of Betty White’s career. It’s the last thing Liza or her people expected, but they’re not complaining. They’re busy fielding offers.”

Sources close to Liza – who has been in rehab at least four time – tell the Enquirer that was not drinking during her HSN gig.

Liza is anxious to get back in front of the cameras, though. A source says: “Liza is a true original and her HSN appearance proved that. She’d love to be in another film, do a reality show or host Saturday Night Live. She’s still kicking – she just needs a vehicle.”

I would love to see Liza do a reality show. I would love for her to get more acting gigs too. She would be great on a sitcom, or even a drama. I watched that new Angie Harmon show on TNT this week, and I was shocked to see Lorraine Bracco playing Harmon’s character’s mom. Why couldn’t Liza do something like that? Or just a reality show that has her hanging out with her theatre buddies, drinking and playing cards. That would be awesome.
