In June, Charlie Sheen was about to be sentenced for pleading guilty for misdemeanor assault for choking and threatening to kill his wife last Christmas. It was thought that he would receive 30 days in jail in Aspen, Colorado in a cushy co-ed facility that has private rooms, a gym, a kitchen for inmates, and allows inmates to leave daily on work release. (Here are photos of the jail. It looks more like a dorm.) With time off for good behavior, Charlie would serve a little over two weeks. The only problem is that Charlie wouldn’t be allowed to smoke in jail, but he could take care of that during his work release at a local community theater for twelve hours a day. Instead, the woman in charge of the work release program objected to the leniency afforded Charlie, and wanted him to be on work release for just six hours a day with no smoking allowed. (This was after the sheriff had already signed off on the better deal.) Charlie’s lawyer of course was able to delay his sentencing and now Charlie has been sentenced to 30 days in rehab instead. That sounds decent and like Charlie will have to face at least some consequences for his behavior. Only Charlie has already been to rehab this year and that counts for time served. The guy got off on a technicality and only received probation. In a statement to paparazzi outside the courthouse, Charlie called his lawyer a “rock star.”

Charlie Sheen pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor assault charge in his domestic violence case and was ordered to 30 days in rehab as part of a plea deal at a court hearing in Aspen, Colo. In exchange, two other charges were dropped.

The actor was also sentenced to three months probation and must complete 36 hours of domestic violence counseling.

Sheen appeared upbeat in the courtroom. Asked to enter a plea, he told the judge, “Guilty as charged your honor.” Asked why he was submitting that plea, Sheen replied, “Because I’m guilty.”

The actor added in a statement following the sentencing: “I’m very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County. I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me.”

Sheen’s lawyer, Yale Galanter, is pleased with the case’s outcome, saying, “Charlie got a great sentence, and I am privileged to have been able to do this for him.”

The Two and a Half Men star, 44, will be back at work on the set of his hit sitcom Tuesday working on the first episode of the new season.

Charlie will of course return to work on Two and a Half Men with a reported salary of well upwards of $1 million an episode. He’s also reportedly moving forward with his divorce from Brooke Mueller now that this pesky assault case is settled. Charlie doesn’t have to worry too much about how much Brooke will come away with. He has a prenup that provides her a $500,000 marriage signing bonus, $300,000 a year (they were married in 2008) plus her share in their home, about $2.35 million. She’s also estimated to receive a whopping $125,000 or more a month in child support for her twin boys with Sheen. This slippery abusive creep should stick to seeing escorts and paid professionals. It’s cheaper and he probably treats them better than he does his wives.
