What’s the general consensus on Charlize Theron? I think she’s beautiful, of course, and I always look forward to seeing her on a red carpet, but I don’t really have any affection for her. She seems like a bitch – in a good way, I suppose. She seems like she’s not interested in playing on our heartstrings or being America’s Sweetheart or being accessible. Anyway, since Charlize’s split with Stuart Townsend earlier this year, she’s been rumored to be dating everyone from Keanu Reeves to Jeremy Renner. No one has really stuck to her, though, but this new guy could get interesting. According to In Touch Weekly, Charlize and Sean Penn went on a date a few weeks ago. Allegedly, they’re close friends and Sean helped her get through her breakup with Stuart. Hm…
Tongues were wagging when Sean Penn and Charlize Theron walked into Via Veneto for dinner in Santa Monica on August 5. According to a pal, the pair have been friends for years, and Sean, 50, has been there for Charlize, 35, lending her a shoulder to cry on.
“He helped her through her split with Stuart [Townsend],” says the pal. Although an insider says the two are not dating, Charlize and Sean were being cute and flirty throughout the meal.
And Sean “thinks she’s beautiful, and she thinks he’s brilliant.”

Well, we know that Sean has a thing for icy blondes, so I’ll buy that Charlize is his type. But is Sean really Charlize’s type? I’ve always seen her as more interested in the beefcake type. Someone pretty that she can get high with. Is Sean that dude? Not really. If I had to guess about this whole story, I’d say that they probably did have dinner, and it was possibly romantic, but we’re not looking at the next hot couple here. It’s probably just friendship and maybe some hot sex, dirty sex. Besides, last I heard, Sean was still dating a 20-something model named Jessica White.
You can say whatever you like about Sean Penn, but he is an amazing actor. He may sometimes act like a douche, but his career can speak for itself.

I don’t really think Charlize is Sean’s type. He seems to like them submissive, and judging from what I’ve read and seen from Charlize, he would have to think twice about beating her up. That being said, Charlize can do and deserves a lot better, the stunning woman that she is.

Sean may be a terrific actor and a humanitarian but he is documented to have beaten his first wife and cheated relentlessly on his second so I hope that this isn’t true.
Considering her mother killed her father in an act of self-defense 20 years ago she probably is pretty tough. But somehow Sean Penn doesn’t strike me (ha, pun and it stays) as the type you would turn to for a shoulder to cry on when you go through a break up.
Imho, Charlize is too pefectly pretty. She projects a soulless, bland beauty that is boring and unexciting.
I think she chooses roles like that serial killer to give her some edge and quirkiness, but it doesn’t work.

If this hookup is true I’m betting it is because Charlize wants (and needs) a higher profile. Her movies don’t exactly set the box office on fire; she was dumped from “The Tourist” because they couldn’t get the money with her attached; she has zero sex appeal (to a lot of people); and she’s getting older (for Hollywood). So hooking up with Sean Penn would put her on the red carpet with him and get her picture in the tabloids and get people to thinking about her again. I don’t see anything wrong with that. It’s been done before. I think I would be interested in seeing how this turns out.

Charlize doesn’t seem like a bitch to me. Actually she always seems really down to earth and cool. The fact that she doesn’t try to be America’s Sweetheart makes her more interesting. Besides it’s usually the America’s Sweethearts who are bitches while the edgy actresses like Charlize, Julianne Moore, Laura Linney, etc seem like really nice people.

She’s been on my list of ‘women I’d switch teams for one night’ since The Devil’s Advocate (1997). I think she’s incredible beautiful, sexy, and she’s always seemed amazingly humble and down to earth in every interview I’ve seen. She really impressed me on ‘In the Actor’s Studio’ where she talked about her parents really for the first time, and even spoke a bit in her native language (she didn’t learn English til she was 18!).

I’ve never heard nasty stories about her. Or any stories as she stays out of the limelight. She doesn’t resort to PR games or talking about her love life for attention like others. For that, she has my respect.

Sean Penn is a horrible human being who tries to disguise that fact by doing charity with a press crew in tow. It’s great he is trying to help others, motives aside, but that doesn’t erase how has treated people throughout the years. He’s been abusive, manipulative, and a cheater to his spouses and partners. Charlize would be an absolute moron to date a “man” like that. He deserves to be alone.

I get what Mslewis said and have been thinking the same about Charlize since day one.
I think she is extremely beautiful but that doesn’t mean she is hot, like having that magnetic palatable hotness. One doesn’t imply the other automatically. Charlize is more beautiful than megan Fox, even at the same age, but Megan is hotter.
Some women are average looking and hot. Others are extremely beautiful and have not that ‘sensual’ factor.
Some have both qualiies. Hotness comes through your pores.
As an example during the supermodels era, i found Cindy Crawford hot and beautiful while Christie Turlington was beautiful but not hot. that’s how i perceived Charlize, like if she was still a model, she will model to perfection the sexless type, more androgynous type.
I don’t know, I think she oozes sex appeal in that Dior commercial. I think she’s totally hot, but in an icier way.
I also wonder why she hasn’t done more films? Maybe, she’s picky? Or doing other things with herself? Who knows. I still think she is a well-respected actress though. She hasn’t spread herself thin by doing a million crappy movies like some other actresses.

She hasn’t done more movies because she is not a big draw to say the least and noone wants to see her movies or is even interested in knowing if and when she has a movie out.
The extent of her bombs is paramount. It’s like total implosion wether the movie is an indepedant one in a limitted release or not. In nearly 30 movies, only 4 were successes among which “Monster” & “Hancock”. The rest are massive bombs…all of them.
She is really the record holder in the genre either in terms of quantity percentage but also in terms of extent. But what is even sadder, it’s like it has always been this way and there were never an evolution. That’s one of the main reason she fought to get the main role of “monster” and change her appearance as her talent was never recognised before that. The movie did great with the Oscar bid stamped on it.
After that she got back to the massive bomb routine, including in the action movie “Aeon Flux”. Only exception : Hancock.
It’s like she never really rose to stardom and didn’t even have a strong sexy image (like Halle for example) to extend her delay of exposure through the media.
She really doesn’t interest neither hollywood nor the masses nor the media. It has always been that way.
I like them both. They’re both great actors and very discerning about the roles they choose. They’d make a good couple and could raise a troupe of super thespians.
According to IMDB, she may have her next project ln 2012, at 37. She really doesn’t get great roles or even roles right now.
I hope she won’t cave in again and audition for stupid movies like she did in 1995 when she auditonned for the female lead of Nomi Malone in “Showgirls”, role that ultimately went to Elizabeth Berkley. Or another “Playboy” shoot, since she already did one.
I really think that her career is in the slump right now and that she needs to do something drastic quick. At 35 in Hollywood, you can’t get away by being such a poor draw, they won’t wait for you to blow. They won’t do it for a twenty something, they won’t do it for you, after 15 years in the business and 30 movies.

It doesn’t translate in the reality. Cate Winslet is a great actress, she does artistic independent movies, and it is translated within the genre she does. she has a fanbase. Charlize mix indepdant (though not necessary artistic) movies and averagely mainstreams. And there if she isn’t next a big draw, nobody watch the movie.
People may lie or perceive somehing that isn’t but numbers don’t lie and that’s why she doesn’t do many movies.

3) You say she has no great roles lined up. Funny how you leave out that she has the lead role in Jason Reitman’s new movie! That’s huge and great for any actresses career right now. She gets offered roles all the time. She just dropped out of a few films and is being more cautious. Also they keep pushing back the Mad Max movie and she had to keep taking time out of her schedule for that. That’s the real reason there’s a gap between her films and Young Adult.
I don’t understand why Angelina Jolie stans are so jealous of Charlize Theron. You think she’s competition? Jolie is the biggest female star in the world and media magnet. Charlize is not a huge star, she’s a classic beauty with intense acting skills. They are different categories.
